We went for a meal with friends who had eaten here several times previously and rated it highly. The menu is quite small and no vegetarian options shown, although when asked there were two options available, veggie curry and cauliflower steak unfortunately neither of which appealed to me personally. I opted for the potato skins starter as a mains instead which was quite tasty but nothing I could wholeheartedly recommend. My meat eating companions chose off the chalkboard menu but were all left feeling slightly underwhelmed, cassoulet, gammon and chicken, none of which they raved about, in fact they were disappointed too as it wasn’t up to previous standards. The concept behind the pub was apparently to recapture the original Victorian feel but it just looked as if it badly needed updating. Staff were very helpful and friendly but without great food I couldn’t rate it any higher.

A nice little find, good service and very knowledgeable about the area. Great coffee and some very nice crepes to boot. Shout out to Lois who was very helpful when I visited

Very nice dessert. They were closing so couldn't enjoy a waffle but ice creams were nice. Thanks ...

This is truly delicious, inventive, homemade, inexpensive food. I'm usually fairly underwhelmed by chicken, but this pop-up inside Ty Cwru is excellent. Makes me homesick for the US, but even better than most of the chicken you'd find there. Poutine was like a lovely chicken dinner in a bowl, but with a delicious Canadian twist. Our visiting friends loved it. Lots of different flavours to suit every palate. Go support this excellent local gem and have a beer at Ty Cwru while your at it!

Was looking forward to this experience, but fell well short of my expectations! Service was great initially, however the cheese boards were extremely average and we had to order 2 as there wasn't much on them...certainly not good value for money. Nothing unusual cheese wise, re.inded me of supermarket fodder. Great concept when it comes to wine tasting, goid idea, but the atmosphere was sadly lacking, the place was empty, and it felt awkward and uninviting. The bill was almost £100 for two...considering we could have had a nice meal in a good restaurant for that price, we wouldnt recommend or visit again. Very, very disappointing...such a shame as staff were great, buut that was only redeeming part of our night there.

My friend had cockles served with too much black pepper. She couldn't eat them. I tasted - they were very 'hot'. I gently told the owner, and she immediately snapped back - "no, they are not peppery, not served with pepper." No apology, just a very rude scowl. She walked off. Couldn't believe it. So unnecessary. 2 of our group couldn't attend, so in a friendly manner, I asked if we could have their deposit back. The scowl and rudeness continued. I've never experienced such an attitude. The deposit was finally handed over, and with a sour face, the owner looked at me and said, "Make sure they get it". The owner really didn't want her customers to return. We won't. I suggest a course on customer relations

This is the second time I’ve had an Ego afternoon tea, the last one at the Groes Wen, they really are unpleasant, defrosted rubbish, at least this time my sandwich weren’t left under the heat lamp curling and my clotted cream wasn’t curdled. I’ve been in catering management for years, making and eating many afternoon teas and this is the poorest yet. When I wrote a review for the Groes Wen it disappeared within a day. I told the manager at the time, who stuck her finger in the cream and agreed but did nothing, also scones are like biscuits.

Terrible experience that ruined what should have been a family celebration for our mother's birthday. Never have I left a restaurant in tears before until now. The owner was very confrontational when I had to complain about my meal, both the waitress and owner argued with us when I had to send my meal back as the vegan burger was not in fact vegan. The chef refused to make an alternative burger and left me without a meal. Those that did get to eat a meal in our party did not enjoy as everything was drenched in oil and the food was not up to standard. Be careful if you have food allergies or intolerances, could be dangerous. Rather than apologising for their mistake the owner/ chef became very defensive and argumentative. Horrible experience. We will not ever be going there again and I would advise to avoid.
