Cote Brasserie - Cardiff Bay

Butetown, Cardiff
13/12/2018: Hard, semi cooked beans, a casserole that had been dried out in cooking, with no liquor nor sauce remaining. It was covered by dozens of unbrowned, hard cubes of bread; there was possibly more bread than beans (btw every cassoulet recipe I have ever cooked or read mentions a light coating of breadcrumbs that are browned). I added half a glass of water to stir into the beans to try and create a mixture that was edible. I failed. The duck leg on the top looked like a roasted twig. No chef would ever produce such a terrible dish. I would have sent the dish back but was being treated by a colleague so didn't want to make a scene. If I am ever forced to visit Cote again I'll go for their frozen chips and overpriced steak. Hard to go wrong with that.
11/12/2018: A group of 20 of us went here tonight for our works Christmas do and what a fabulous night it was. The food was served promptly and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful and recommended certain wines to go with our meal. Each course came with just the right amount of time in between and it was all delicious. I've been a few times to this restaurant and I have never had a bad experience. The staff are very accommodating and the food is always delicious. Thank you!

Le Bistrot Pierre

Cathays, Cardiff
17/12/2018: Second time and I have been here and much better than the first . Ok it was very busy so initially the organisation was a little slow but this was understand able .
17/12/2018: I booked the office for 17 people at this restaurant as it is in central Cardiff and is rated as having good food and a great atmosphere. The team had a great night, the staff looked after us all really well, so well that the team didn’t want to leave. The food was fabulous and the drinks were brought to us very quickly when we ordered more. Would definitely recommend this venue and will be visiting again.

Bully's Restaurant

Riverside, Cardiff, 20-30£
02/12/2018: This is a restaurant for the ages that doesn't know how good it is, or if it did, I suspect would be too humble to take the praise. Bully's is how eating out should be - I would have said "used to be" but it would make me sound dated (or at least more than I am) and Bully's old fashioned and it's really not, it's wonderfully modern in a warm and familiar, quirky and individual old school reinvented kinda way. I called and left a message to ask if I could find space for me and my family of 4 - the manager called me back (I was already impressed) and rejigged the space on an already busy Saturday night to fit us in. The food was absolutely fantastic and faultless from the kitchen, simple and great ingredients brought elegantly up to date. Amazing Negronis, great wine list well sampled, and everything very fairly priced. Couldn't have been more accommodating to me, my wife and my kids catering for one gluten free and indulging my 8 year old very kindly with colouring his individually designed place mats. For the cynic who wonders how many of these sorts of reviews are real let me tell you why I'm bothering. First, I don't really "do" Trip Advisor except for when things go bad and I feel frustrated and want to warn people not to waste their money, but, went online to try to find Russ's (owner) mail to write directly and nope, no email. Good for him I thought. Then I saw the "controversy" about the restaurant's response to no shows and thought, wow, admire you even more for making a stand. This family business deserves every success and I'll be back to enjoy it. Bravissimo Bully's!
30/11/2018: We had been meaning to go here for ages, and it didn’t disappoint- excellent food, wine & service. Looking forward to going back already!

Cafe Rouge Cardiff St Davids II

Cathays, Cardiff
03/12/2018: Visited early Sunday evening (2/12/2018). We were greeted with a smile, seated quickly and our drinks order taken. The waitress looking after us (Mariula) was chatty and friendly while taking our food order, and also really apologetic when our choices had sold out. New choices made, we didn’t have to wait long before our starter was brought to the table, a very tasty hummus with harissa and fresh baguette and butter. Then came our main courses, my partner opted for the half chicken whilst I chose the duck. Neither of us were disappointed with our choices, and, the dauphinois potatoes I had with the duck were possibly the best I have ever eaten. We shared a chocolate sponge with ice cream for dessert, to which Mariula had added a lighted candle which we both thought was a lovely gesture. A coffee each rounded off our meal.
02/12/2018: Purchased a groupon deal for 2. The outside menu had a better variety at about same price i paid for the so called deal. Waited 20 minutes for our veggi starter that stank of fish with bits of fish batter stuck to it. When i complained the waitress explained that all deep fried food was cooked in same oil. That left us without a starter. The main course was a snack! So poor. Had i not previously purchased it i would definitely not have paid. Left disappointed and hungry. Wont return or recommend.

Cafe Noir

Butetown, Cardiff
08/05/2012: Went on a quiet Tues evening with work colleagues. Excellent service and menu selection. Little on the pricey side perhaps but as work was paying less concerned about that !! Overall nice evening had by all.

Brasserie Centrale

Cathays, Cardiff
