Cote Brasserie - Cardiff Bay in Cardiff

General Cardiff bay Manager Nickolas (Nick) Gale told me I don't care about anything I just care about making money from Cote restaurant...worst manager ever.. copy of my complaint I got throat cancer and I am having chemotherapy. We decide to go have nice family meal together. My family 4 person went Cote restaurant in Cardiff Bay. Absolute awful customer service. Went at around 9:15 (1 November) with a view of many empty tables asking if we could eat there. We were told no, and when asked why the staff said we don’t have enough people working so come back in half an hour. We asked if we could sit for a drink for half an hour then eat and they declined this offer. We came back at 9:45, were blanked for 15 mins until exactly 10 when someone said the kitchen was closed. They refused to serve us. I know you are busy but customer service should be better. We walked away from the restaurant because of the poor customer service attitude. No wonder there was hardly anyone in there at a peak time of the day. I was even more disgusted at the dismissive response from the branch staff. Almuerzo largo y perezoso Las vieiras eran pequeñas y estaban demasiado cocidas. El filete muy tierno, pero ligeramente exagerado. El queso fue una selección de DIMINUTOS cortadores. Bastante tonto. Sin embargo, la carta de vinos fue realmente decepcionante. No hay muchas opciones. En general OK Podría hacerlo mucho mejor.

Después de haber cenado en otros restaurantes de Cote en otras ciudades, donde la comida ha sido fabulosa, esperaba una experiencia similar en el recinto de la bahía de Cardiff. Sin embargo, lamentablemente no fue así. Mi pareja y yo estábamos celebrando nuestros cumpleaños, un máster y aniversario de una sola vez y, después de llegar tarde a Cardiff, elegimos Cote’s como nuestra opción preferida de restaurante. Recibidos por una camarera amable nos mostraron para poner mesa. El restaurante tenía suficiente gente, pero no tan ocupado. Pedimos y comenzamos nuestra noche. Teníamos entrantes que estaban bien. Nuestras principales eran filetes. Ambos cocinados de forma diferente, servidos fríos y no cocinados a nuestro gusto. Las patatas estaban más calientes que los filetes. Mi compañera tenía salsa de pimienta con la suya, que era insípida, y muy sosa. Mencionamos a la camarera que la comida estaba fría y ella se ofreció a que se las llevaran - nos negamos, ya que era tarde y teníamos hambre. No nos quedamos de postre. La comida fue muy decepcionante. Y eso me ha dejado ir de nuevo. Tristemente, en este momento, no es un lugar que recomendaría en absoluto. El personal amable y el esfuerzo que se hizo para rectificar la cuestión hicieron que el tres de cinco fuera soportable.

Vine aquí para una cena como un grupo de 5. El personal era muy amable y cortés. Empecé con el cangrejo, seguido de bourguignon de ternera para la red, y terminé con helado. Todo estaba absolutamente delicioso. Recomendaría encarecidamente este lugar

Tuvimos un almuerzo muy agradable en Cote. Gran servicio, y la comida, además de ser un restaurante muy agradable con vistas al Millenium Centre. Buena relación calidad-precio también. Tuvimos brunch al día siguiente también - y eso fue bueno - de nuevo con un gran servicio de todo el personal. Gracias

Enjoyed a lovely meal with my partner . The staff were very friendly and informative in helping us choose our food and drinks. Also spent the time to ask us how we were and about our day. The food here was delicious.

Superb location and meal ,me and my wife had the 3 course set menu and it was excellent, we were sat outside enjoying the sun and a few glasses of wine to. I had the sea bass as a main as would recommend to everyone it was delicious, staff were amazing to, especially Grace who was superb in looking after us both for the evening so a big big thanks to her from stuwee and Kaz 😃 Think you will find it hard to beat this place in Cardiff bay so please try if unsure on choice from the many restaurants

Used to love coming here when we lived in cardiff - our go to in the bay but haven’t been for nearly 5 years. The saving grace that prevents 1/5 is the staff being so friendly and the food was edible. I was informed the wine was good by those who drank it and the live saxophonist was nice touch. Sadly despite being only about 1/4 full at most the waiting time between ordering anything and getting it was ridiculous - apart from the bill that is from which we had the service charge removed. I’m all for an unhurried experience but when you only have 2 courses and have young children the colouring sheet only lasts so long and 3/4 of an hour for mains then another 30 min for desserts which are all pre-made and simply need plating up (no warm items in the dessert apart from a tiny Madeline and some chocolate sauce to go on the kids ice cream) it’s not really justifiable. The mains were overall decent if pricey for the small size of the portion and while the 3 inch sliver of bass and 4 prawns in the fish stew were lovely and the sauce tasty the mussels weren’t cleaned properly still having barnacles on the outside, add to that if they had been cleaned properly the one with the massive piece of cracked shell would’ve been discarded rather than served - it was open but I suspect that was the case before cooking as was likely the other one I spat out that was seriously off! At £18.25 for a not exactly generous size dish with only and handful of mussels in it I’d expect them to be at least cleaned properly. Given that the bay was heaving due to the fun fair and everywhere else appeared rammed and turning people away the reason that this place was only 1/4 has now become sadly clear. I would also echo the state of the toilets highlighted by an earlier reviewer, definitely not the best.

The food was cold and the waiters were rude. Everything was overpriced and underwhelming. We actually laughed at how ridiculous the meals were, including the bizarre addition of raw carrots to a ‘charcuterie board’ (which consisted only of ham that tasted like fridge and 2 slivers of bread). We had to request balsamic and butter for the bread as it was served plain and stale. If you want to spend on a nice family lunch go literally anywhere else nearby, this was a complete waste of money.

Very disappointed. Half hour wait for coffee and water . Food luke warm . Worst sauted potatoes I ve ever had .....more like chips . But the worst thing was the state of the floors in the bathroom ....absolutely disgusting. The tiles were unbelievably dirty . On a positive note , our waiter was delightful , the saxaphone player was amazing , just a shame about everything else

We had dinner with a family of 5, all adult; tourists in Cardiff. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. Try the MUSHROOM BOURGUIGNON. After eating this vegan dish you wonder if we really need meat. Also the salade nicoise was very good.

Cote was always our favourite restaurant in Cardiff Bay and we believe it offers French fine dining at its finest - perfect food served in a personal way. After cocktails with bread, olives and olive oil as starters, we really enjoyed the Cote take on modern French cuisine served here again tonight: boeuf bourguignon, extremely tender, catch of the day sea bass prepared to perfection with a bernaise sauce, and two starters served as one meal - seared scallops on petit pois and crab maison. All in all a lovely mix of fresh tastes and textures, followed by chocolate mouse, espresso and a picture of a chamomile tea for the discerning company. The food was prepared in 20 minutes, served in great form and by very polite staff. Food requirements were answered with an impressive list of ingredients for each dish on the menu in a professional and kind manner. The present company, all quite tired after a long day, loved the views of Cardiff custom house and the Millenium centre in the evening sunlight and enjoyed a relaxed conversation, in a lovely place. Special mention is due to the maitre, who kept the customers happy, the food coming, made time to ask how all was, and what else would we like, while running a tight ship both in gastronomic and in nautical terms: BZ. Leaving Cardiff we will miss Cote in 25 Mermaid Quay - Cardiff Bay.

Overall a nice experience. Reasonably priced food, good service but I was not allowed to pay cash. What’s that all about? I don’t always want to pay by card. Will not be coming back because of this reason.

I don’t write reviews very often but the service at Cote Cardiff Bay deserves a mention. We arrived at the restaurant on time and were shown to our table outside, we then waited 25 mins for our drinks to arrive. They took our food order the same time that they delivered our drinks, we explained very politely that we had a concert to go to, so asked if we could please have better service. This didn’t happen the service was slow, we had to cancel desserts and were still late for the concert 2 mins from the restaurant, for ref, we had allowed two hours for the meal, and politely asked on a few occasions why were waiting so long between courses, the meal and experience certainly wasn’t worth the price. My advice if you have a concert to go to, think again before coming here.

Stopped here Saturday for food before attending a show in the theatre located just opposite the restaurant. Was very busy so a good job we booked. Staff were busy but attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and with myself being gluten free it was good to see separate menus for this and staff aware. Overall we had a lovely meal here and highly recommend it for pre theatre food - just be sure to book beforehand!

Excellent visit to Cote this afternoon. The new spring menu was a welcome change. The Asparagus was cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was so scrummy. The children’s haddock goujons were particularly good too. Despite being short staff, traditional hospitality was still at its best and the staff waited on us in true style. This has been my good to place since it opened and is still my favourite restaurant 💗

If you like salt you are in luck. Had the eggs royale. One egg poached solid which to be fair the waiter kindly changed immediately. However the dish was barely edible as the smoked salmon was incredibly salty, made worse by the salt flakes added by the chef. Service was very good though. Shall not return. 😥

7 of us enjoyed a lovely lunch in Cote Cardiff Bay. We were greeted with smiles from the very friendly and professional staff. All of us ordered from the Prix Fixe menu and we we all happy with our choices. ( Particular favourites were the bacon salad starter and the sea bass). Service was unhurried and there was a decent gap between courses). There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant and we will come again. Our waiter was at pains to explain that the service charge was optional and double checked we were happy to pay. My only complaint is that Cote Brasserie does not accept cash but I'm not deducting a star as it's a central decision. However, there should be a choice for the customer to use cash or card.

With Côte being one of my favourite restaurant, we regularly choose to eat at Cardiff Bay, whilst we always get great quality food the staff here, by far make the experience more of a treat. They are extremely attentive and make you feel relaxed and welcome. Full set of stars from me, great place to eat

Sadly my soufle was tasteless, could only taste parsley, no taste of cheese, Sauce was separated, poured oil all over then found sauce at bottom of tiny jug. Wonder was the sauce with my meal, Main course Burger, overcooked, two tiny thin slices of strange cheese, cheap tomato, and awful chips. Very disappointing. Third visit, will not go again.

Food was perfectly cooked and presented. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was lovely, even thought it was a busy Saturday they managed to squeeze us in.

Cote Cardiff Bay isn’t what it used to be. Crab starter was tasteless and wasn’t worth its £10+ price tag. Many of the main courses (e.g. fish pie) don’t come with any sides. The portions are certainly not French - the calamari was so small, I felt like saying “where’s the rest?” The price has gone up and the experience has gone down. Such a shame but can’t see us going back.

Three of us went for an early dinner last Friday. It was very busy, but lovely friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately my husband accidentally knocked a glass off the table but all was cleared up quickly with smiles and efficiency. We all enjoyed the food but I must add that mine was all absolutely delicious to look at and to taste! With smiling, engaging staff and a very reasonable bill, we all came out feeling that we would love to come back again soon. As we were walking up to the Millenium Centre, someone dashed up behind us breathless, it was a staff member with a pair of glasses we had left on the table! How kind! Certainly a 5* restaurant!!

Tonight, my dining experience at Côte Cardiff Bay was not only disappointing but also alarming. I ordered a steak, expecting a delightful meal. Unfortunately, what was served to me was far from appetizing; the steak was spoiled. The realization that the meat was not fit for consumption was immediate, and the dish had to be sent back to the kitchen. Consuming spoiled food poses serious health risks, and I was appalled by the oversight. Adding insult to injury, the response from the staff further soured the experience. Our waitress, while acknowledging the mistake, merely mentioned that we would not be charged for the steak, as though this gesture absolved the restaurant of serving potentially dangerous food. There was no genuine apology, nor were there any attempts to rectify the situation beyond this minimal effort. A more appropriate response would have been to offer a discount on our bill, acknowledging the severity of the mistake and valuing customer satisfaction and safety. I urge potential customers to reconsider dining at Côte. The lack of attention to food safety and unsatisfactory customer service makes it a place to avoid. No one should have to worry about the quality of their meal or the potential health risks involved when going out to eat.

Lunch with the family as a treat before the cinema. Starters were good. The rest of the family enjoyed their mains, my son and I however were very disappointed with our chicken gratin. Plenty of meat on the chicken, but not expecting it to be served surrounded by what can only be described as a watery soup with two beans and two carrots floating amongst it, not a thick creamy sauce as anticipated.

After spending around £150 I gave feedback which was not positive, manager called after a couple of weeks and invited us back and offered a bottle of wine, so I spend another £150 pounds for poor food with a cheap wine included, should we go back.

Went to Cote for a family lunch. The restaurant is bright and airy, the staff helpful and the food is very nice. I ordered a chicken dish which was basically half a chicken, well cooked in a creamy sauce. I ended up donating half to my son who had just wolfed his steak. Cote is supposedly well known for the quality of its steaks and they were certainly appreciated by my sons. The chips were really good and the deserts did not disappoint. The bill was reasonable and the 10% optional service charge seemed on the low side given that other restaurants are happy to charge 15%.

What a perfect place ! Everything is just right. Great service, tasty well presented food at a reasonable price ! Give it a try !

We went for lunch today and they were seriously understaffed. The manager and his staff were brilliant, helpful and the food was delicious. We were short on time and even though they were busy we were able to finish our meals with time to catch our show. They were really up against it with some customers canceling because they were not getting their order fast enough. The manager was very professional, friendly and helpful.

Weds before Christmas, visiting family in Cardiff, we went for lunch in Cotes B. This is our second visit, the first 4 weeks ago having diverted to there after Cardiff traffic jams prevented us getting to our orginal destination of The Ivy. We went back to Cotes this time over The Ivy because the staff and food were so good. They were lovely, helpful and kind to an elderly relative, accomodating serving a breakfast/brunch item for a late lunch. Our second visit was equally sucessful. A lovely location in Cardiff Bay, and not having to battle Cardiff traffic!

Went here today (Sunday) for breakfast, looked promising but was very overpriced for what it was. I had a ham and cheese toastie which was about £8, presentation was shocking. Wasn't cut, burnt round the edges, no garnish not really what I would expect in a restaurant. My friend had the full breakfast which was okay but again not really worth the £12 she paid. Coffee was really nice though. Service was slow but that was because it was busy so that wasn't an issue I would just expect more pride to be taken over food when you're paying that bit extra. Probably wouldn't come again for breakfast.

I have to say that the food here was the best I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. The waiting time for food and between each course was timed really well and the service was top notch. I would definitely visit there again and I will be recommending it to everyone that I can. I’m not one for leaving reviews but it was so nice I felt like I had to.

Sometimes, a night out just clicks. Some fougasse. Succulent beef cheeks. A wonderful Grave Rouges. Staff who just know how to make the evening right. Enough space to be comfortable. Linen serviettes and long-stemmed glasses. Perfection, without the ostentatious showmanship of nearby restaurants. One of those places you hope will never change.

We visit Cardiff Bay frequently. We always manage a couple of breakfasts here. Service very good and staff attentive. Visited Saturday morning service and breakfast very good can't complain at all. So decided to book a table for evening meal and lucky for us they could fit us in. We we're so looking forward to it. Arrived and shown to our table, awful, young couple next to us so close it was unreal, couldn't have proper conversation and the young lady next door rather loud. Just don't like being that close and it's not because of things the way they are now either. Purely don't like hearing the next table so clearly. It was really busy. We nearly walked out but didn't as we didn't know where we would be able to get a meal. Very disappointed couldn't wait to leave. The food excellent couldn't fault it. Would I go again yes for breakfast but a definite no for evening meal. Shame as we liked it.

Haven't been here for a few years, but as my husband is French we decided to revisit. Best lunch in a long time. He had moule frites and thr apprehension about Scottish mussels soon ended as he thought they were wonderful with no sand. My meal was pork belly....Best ever!!

Went for a New Year's day meal and didn't disappoint. Despite difficulties during current crisis in hospitality the reduced team manged first class customer service. together with excellent food and wine we started 2022 well. Couldn't fault today's experience at Cote Cardiff

First visit here for me. I was advised to have the onion soup. It was delicious. I followed with the fish pie. Again delicious. Even the bread was nice. Staff attentive and price fair for the area. Would go again.

As a wheelchair user the restaurant was a little short on space to manoeuvre but the front of house was good at getting us to the most suitable table, However we then waited a good 15 mins before our drinks order was taken and two staff were both trying to do this and ended up missing half our request, Then a further lengthy wait for them to arrive and then also take food order,It was extremely busy, staff were not wearing masks and tables were not socially distant, and as there was not much room between tables, the wait staff kept kicking and tripping on my rear wheelchair wheels which was quite annoying and not once did any apologies.The food however when it arrived, was plentiful and cooked to perfection, the staff were nice enough just very overworked.And the cost a little pricey but as it was a special occasion it was worth it

Excellent service from start to finish, the restaurant was very busy but the speed of service was excellent. Food was great. Well done will definitely visit again. Merry Christmas

Avoid... service excellent. Food.. dog muck!!! Sorriest piece of sea bass I've ever seen. Crab starter disgusting. Moules fritte... disgusting!!! On a positive note the coffee was nice. 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

Amazing food and brilliant catering for people with Allergies! With someone with an allergy that is not 1 of the 14 known allergies, Cote did super to cater for me. Would highly recommend!! 🙂🙂

Superb evening. From beginning to end. The attention to detail was refreshing to see - the service was amazing. Celebrated our anniversary here. Best mussels I’ve eaten in the UK. Sourdough bread is also so good. We were given a glass each of complementary champagne for our special night - lovely touch! Will definitely return & recommend to friends & family!

We were greeted by the floor manager (my qualification of him) on entry and could sit anywhere as the restaurant was not busy (we dined early). They had a separate gluten free menu, and we were so grateful for it, as in many other restaurants they have to juggle around with ingredients “oh yes we can do that without that” which is not what we wish to hear, when we are paying good money for their goods and services.They don’t take cash which is a sign of the times, as many others are doing the same, but that was fine and the fixed menu was just what we wanted. Service was good and the staff attentive to our needs. We will go again.

We booked an early table to allow time to get to the Millennium Centre theatre which is a few minutes away.I have always enjoyed Cote in any of the branches I have visted, including this branch, but this meal was very disappointing.The restaurant was full, and the service seemed very slow - which is unusual in Cote.Eventually we were told there was an IT crash. I have seen this said in reviews of other locations, not just Cote so it seems that modern chain restaurants are very reliant on techology rather than someone writing an order at the table and speaking to the kitchen!It all became very chaotic at adjoinig tables too - not the relaxed meal with with family we had envisaged before a musical.Food eventually arrived but the quality was ok rather than great, think the whole operation was under pressure by then. We certainly didnt have time for a dessert or coffee.I think the staff were doing their best in the circumstances , but Cote are not a cheap option and it just wasn't good enough.I wouldn't book this restaurant again for a pre theatre meal.

We’ve been going to cote for 10+ years. You know what I mean. It’s an above par chain restaurant nice wine. Good steak solid food. Something has changed. I don’t mind paying more. We all know brexit has pushed up the cost of staff and food so that’s fine by me. What isn’t fine is to replace the food with something you’d get in a 3 star tui hotel in Majorca. The plus points. Service as ever was excellent all round. Pleasant attentive. Nice atmosphere.The downside. £14.95 set menu.Starter m. pork terrine. Bit like sausage meat wrapped in preformed ham. Not good. At all. Main. A chicken breast that had pre charred lines on it with what felt like a tin of mushroom soup on top. Bad. I’ve eaten at cote maybe 100+ times and the food has been consistently good at each of those meals. but this is a cost cutting step change in the wrong direction so won’t be back. Something has changed and we aren’t dumb enough not to notice.

We dined here twice over our weekend in Cardiff. Firstly for lunch on the Friday and secondly for breakfast on the Saturday. Lunch - firstly my favourite soup is French onion and Cote usually make a delicious one but this wasn’t up to its normal standard (although I have to say it’s the first time I’ve had it in the Bay restaurant). It was really bland and glutinous plus the toast was burnt on the underside. I won’t be having it again here. For my main I had the Fish stew which was mostly delicious but the calamari was tough (I thought it strange that it was in batter too), Hubby had the fish pie which he enjoyed. For breakfast we both had the traditional full English which was mostly good. I’d love you to offer baked beans as well as tomatoes though (I don’t like tomatoes). Also this time the toast looked as if it had never seen the toaster.In summing up two average not bad visits. Staff were really efficient and pleasant, even the one that had never heard of marmite lol !

Exceptional staff all round but especially Leanna who had served us twice in two days the food excellent, setting & cleanliness was superb. We went for my husbands birthday and was greeted with a glass of bubbly, we had calamari, bread & olives for our starters, my main was steak & my husband had warm salad & sides it was so delicious that we went back the next night & again for breakfast which was also amazing. Definitely return & the best restaurant on the bay. I would book before you go they were fully booked & constantly having to turn people away. Well done guys

We enjoyed the most delicious breakfast at Cote Brasserie. Great service and delicious food, we were luck enough to be able to sit outside and enjoy the warm sunny morning, it felt more like the South of France than South Wales. A lovely way to start the day

stopped off and sat outside, welcomed by harry and Dewi, fabulous food, served by a great team, we felt safe well looked after, mussels were great and the sun was shining

Really enjoyed the experience. Staff very friendly, calm environment, service was excellent and finally the food was brilliant. The only thing that soured our visit was the 12% service charge that was added to our bill without us being informed. I'm happy to pay a service charge based on the service provided, but think it should be up to the customer to determine the amount. With this exception, the restaurant was excellent.

friendly staff,service a little slow,but like most places,staff shortages,lovely day sat outside watching the world go by,everything we ordered was lovely
