Wow, what an amazing place, which we visited today for a special anniversary lunch. It’s the first time we have been although it’s been on our radar for a while. We had three courses and they were all superbly presented, Michelin standard we would suggest. We had smoked salmon & scallop starters, lamb for main and pannacotta & chocolate mousse for dessert, all washed down with a lovely bottle of Shiraz. We can’t wait to go back. We visited for Sunday lunch and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Because I have specific allergies, my husband emailed ahead and they made up allergen-free gravy which was very much appreciated (and delicious).From start to finish, Dom and the team looked after us so well. The quality and flavour of each course really stood out and we will surely be back.Special shoutout too to the excellent whimsical placemats

A lovely venue and very pleased to see large round tables for bigger parties. Service is exceptional without being overbearing. They were very helpful in offering off menu alternatives for vegetarian/celiacs and other allergy issues. Food was exceptional. Cauliflower cheese filo starter was delicious. An off menu mushroom risotto was also Very good. No one liked the house white but the Rioja was lovely. It is a bit pricey (£65 per head for us) but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Had a fantastic meal, wine was great and nicely chilled, service was great and justied the service charge, I just hope that this goes to the waitress who served us My only slight complaint is the gents toliets had some grubby red towel slumped over the radiator, which didn't look too good, I raise this for the reason of hygiene with the outbreak of Coronavirus spreading, although their was a soap dispenser and hot water this was not acceptable

The meal I experienced at Bullys was definitely the nicest food I’ve tasted in a long time. It’s very costly but well worth the money as the food is fresh, good quality and presented well. The smoked salmon starter was delicious and it was a really generous portion of thick cuts of salmon. The filet steak and fish main were both cooked perfectly and full of flavour. We loved the decor of the restaurant itself - very quirky and has lots of character. We would definitely visit again for a special occasion!

My starter of crab ravioli was good. When asked how I would like my lamb cooke I said I like it very well done at hime - it came pink! Why bother asking if the chef is going to impose his will on me? Another of us had middling smoked salmon starter followed by middling halibut. On the other hand another of us said his £33 steak was the best he had ever had. We declined to tip on the wine why tip on their already made mark up/profit? The “discretionary” tip was added automatically. The till could not just deduct the tip on the wine and had to remove all the tip. Computers in 2020?

Nice arty decor with paintings on every available inch of wall space. Great wine list and authentic French food options. Lovely experience and very attentive, friendly professional staff. Would recommend but quite pricey. This is is for special occasions but is worth the extra spend.

Look - there are a few good elements here; chiefly a good wine list and decent cocktail making. Unfortunately the rest is chiefly style over substance, unbelievably and unapologetically slow service, with a demeanour that would make some diners think that slow was the new efficient. Don’t be sucked in; it’s really not. A cheese plate for £14 which includes 2 uninspiring and 3 ‘pass the salt’ offerings is lazy. So is oat cakes. An amuse bouche which is introduced on the strength of its over salted rosemary bread, tiny portions of unsalted butter and then it arrives 15 mins after said bread is not impressive. I could have competently produced the lamb and turbot at home and I don’t want to go out and think that. I don’t care if your child has scrawled designs on a bit of paper which you decide to use as place mats- it’s cheesier than your cheese plate. Knowing customers’ names at the expense of quality doesn’t measure up and of people eating here religiously need that sort of validation in lieu of good food, that’s quite tragic

Como de costumbre, Bully no decepcionó, nos sentimos un servicio encantador, una comida deliciosa y una buena relación calidad-precio. Cardiff tiene una gran cantidad de restaurantes en oferta, con nuevos que llegan cada mes. . . . . la mayoría de ellos claramente mediocres, pero por su calidad y consistencia, no hemos podido encontrar ningún lugar que se acerque al de Bully. Es una joya.

Took family party for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday, and what a gem. Unassuming exterior and a quirky interior with plenty to catch the eye. You can even colour in your placemats!!

The grey mullet with black pasta was the nicest meal we've had for a long time. The liver pate was top notch. The rest of the meal was very good and we will definitely return for a special occasion. A bit pricy for a family visit

Los entrantes eran exquisitos, salmón, terrina y sopa de calabaza, todo delicioso. El vientre de cerdo estaba perfectamente preparado, tierno con una parte superior crujiente. La carne también era buena. El mejor postre de chocolate que he probado en mucho tiempo. Gran ambiente también, definitivamente volveremos.

Like other Bully's regulars, I have been supporting my local restaurant for over 10 years. Disappointingly Bully's is no longer what it used to be. Our Sunday lunch was uninspiring and pretty ordinary. We should have gone to Conway who can knock up a much better Sunday roast at half the price. Waited a good while for the starters to arrive and our soups came without any bread. By the time our main courses arrived, we were there well over an hour. I was embarrassed to have taken my friends there. Shan't make that mistake again.

Over the last 13 years I have visited Bully’s when I feel like a treat and on numerous occasions I have sent friends, work colleagues and visitors there when they ask me for a really good eating experience in Cardiff. Yes expensive but, special treatment, ambience and food. A recent opportunity to visit recently did, unfortunately not go as planned a lot has changed since I last visited- apart from the high cost. We were bang on time but immediately on arriving and being seated we sensed that they wanted our order in a hurry. We were served by a waiter who was supper busy and super friendly and a waitress who was also super busy but not so friendly. She almost forced us to order early and the irony is that after we did this we had to wait 45 minutes for our starter to arrive. They were pretty good (tuna, scallops, and onion soup was chosen) and my soup was simple, rich and tasty. Just what you expect at Bully’s; the other starters we Ok but only OK. Two of us ordered the lamb for mains and two went for the beef fillets. I wonder now if the hurry to get the order from us was due to the chef having to leave early because if she/he did that our lambs were left under the grill and forgotten about. The piece I got was crispy on the outside, overlaying a dry and stringy mess of overcooked meat. A real disappointment and I should have gone for the beef that was of higher quality. The gravy/sauce on my lamb tasted like Bisto overkill. Zinfandel at £36 a bottle and `Malbec (£27) were OK, desserts were well liked and the cheese board was fairly good (£14); but nothing special. When we were offered coffee we just wanted to go home rather than hang out there for another 15 mins to finish the night- old Bully’s style. Bill was just over £300 and for that you expect better and I very much hope that this was just a bad day at the office rather than the norm. I will wait a while before visiting again and right now, for at least a while, will need to consider sending folks to another Cardiff restaurant for something special.

Booked to come tonight for a special tasting menu and was not disappointed. We were a party of 3 adults and enjoyed 8 courses. I added the 6 glass wine flight and have to say that they went very well with each of the courses they were matched to.

Fantastic, personalised service, absolutely delicious food, warm and friendly environment and sensational evening in all ways. Bully's is a real gem, I highly recommend a visit.

Food was superb and service was excellent. Prices are on the expensive side but you definitely pay for what you get. Everything was well prepared and beautiful. Quirky interior and lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return!

We were looking for somewhere to go for Sunday dinner, came across Bully’s on the internet and decided to give it a go. The decor is quirky but that makes it more interesting. We enjoyed our starters and the home made bread was delicious and we were offered an extra helping. I chose the salmon for my starter and my wife chose the chicken Caesar salad, both were delicious I think I my chose the salad next time. For mains we both chose the chicken and were not disappointed, there were three options for dessert we both chose the chocolate dish, which was lovely. The service in Bully’s was very good. All in all a great dinner and we would call again.

Bully’s has a pub friendly atmosphere with ⭐️ quality food and wine. I followed the waiters recommendations with no regret. The beef selection was seasoned to perfection with the aged beef flavour coming through the mushroom demi glaze. Finished the night with port and cheese selection. This place is a bit out of the way, but you will be grateful for the journey.

It’s a quirky place, not my kind of decor, but the waiter was very friendly and efficient, so I dismissed my hatred of turquoise paint and stuff (to be fair, some of the stuff was interesting) mounted on a red background

My second visit. Atmospheric place with friendly staff and a reasonable wine list. Starters good with chicken rillette (£9) and a piece of cured salmon with cucumber sauce (£8.50) preceded by an amouse bouche of small pieces of black pudding in what appeared to be a cauliflower sauce with really nice bread. The let down was the bass mains. It consisted of a single fillet with lack lustre noodles and at £22 I expected better. It really did not hit the mark. Never had cheesy chips before and never will again either (compte frites at £4.50) as far too stodgy for my liking.

This place is a gem. We went there with our toddler for dinner. The staff were abdplutely lovely and very accommodating. The food was a great experience, especially the steak and not to mention the amazing cheese cake. Definately somewhere to visit over and over again

We visited Bully's as part of my birthday celebrations at the beginning of August. Our meal, from the amuse bouche, to my starter of sole (which I like to see as a main), to my rump of lamb was excellent. My tarte tatin was one of the best I've tasted for years. My wife said that her curried chicken and her dessert were top range too. Looking forward to returning soon.

This was our first visit to Bully’s after reading a review and we were not disappointed. We loved the eccentric decor but best of all you can tell that the people are truly passionate about their food and wines. Already planning our next trip!

My daughter booked as it was her graduation and 21st birthday meal, it was a cosy restaurant and the staff were great, don't get me wrong it wasn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for and the food was nice, though £6+ for a bottle of really did sting.

Had heard of the restaurant somewhere so we decided to give it a try on our last night in Cardiff on a short break. We arrived quite early after a hot day just as they were opening. Invited inside to cool off have some water and have a pre dinner drink.

We had booked Bully's many months before as near our apartment for the cricket visit to World Cup game.

The tasting menu was an interesting experience to try a variety of dishes with paired wines. Tasting menus in restaurants in general aim to surprise and delight in equal measure. Bully's lived up in this respect with good portion sizes and interesting textures and flavours in each course. I'm not usually a fan of the sorbet palette cleanser but I really enjoyed the limoncello sorbet. The white chocolate mousse dessert was also surprisingly good and not too sweet. I felt that as an extra to the experience it would have been useful to have an announcement at the start welcoming all the guests with an explanation of the menu and what inspired each course. It would also have been a nice touch if the chef had come out at the end of the evening as an opportunity for guests to thank you for the enjoyable meal.

Just left from from a wedding party. Food was first class, along with service and wine. Can not say much more than it was an amazing experience. Thank you!

Nuestro camarero era un joven encantador que conocía el menú con mucho detalle y ayudó a crear un ambiente maravillosamente agradable. La comida en sí era magnífica, tenía el lomo de cordero, que era increíblemente suculento y lo recomendaría en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, aún mejor con el maridaje de un encantador rojo francés. Recomiendo encarecidamente este establecimiento a cualquiera que busque un buen momento.

Was really looking forward to going here after reading the reviews. I’m afraid it’s completely over rated. The staff were very nice and the odd furniture and decor is quirky but I’m afraid the food is average at best. The scallops and the foie gras starter both lacked flavour and the apricot and Sauternes purée was overpowering. My chicken main course was at most luke warm while the halibut was nice but over priced. 2 requests and a 10 minute wait for ice rounded off our disappointing dinner.

We were guests of a friend who invited us to a 'Sunday lunch birthday celebration' for about 34 guests. There was no advanced orders, just sit down and choose from the menu - The restaurant did really well; hardly any delays in bringing the starters, main-course, dessert or coffee. Well done to the staff and chef(s).

Everything about our experience at Bully's for my wife's Birthday meal out was wonderful. The ambience, the service, the food...wow! We had the most expensive meal we have had as husband and wife, however that was our fault for getting carried away with the choice of desert wines. We had a lovely chat with the manager, talking about the wines. It was a fabulous experience, one I shall not forget. Thank you.

I booked the table for my partner’s birthday as it was a recommended restaurant and looked quirky. The interior is really interesting and lots of nice pictures and snippets to look at along with an array of mirrors on the wall. The seating is nice, a little low on the smaller tables, but do-able. The placemats all had little illustrations on which were sweet.

Sunday Lunch (27/1/19) with two friends was disappointing for wife and I. We had looked forward to this as a special occasion but while food was good the service was poor. Owner wasn't there so he was missed - I am sure things would have been better.

My wife and i were taken to Bully's by my daughter and her partner for a treat and what a lovely evening we had.The menu is limited for choice but all our food was excellent and the service very good.The restaurant had a nice atmosphere even though it was very busy.This was our first visit and I am certain we will return in the near future.

We booked for a Saturday lunch for 3 people, they open at 12:00, so we booked for 12:00. As we were in the area we walked around outside and saw the hostess was there at the restaurant reception. We entered at 12:00 and were expected, so shown to our table. The hostess then proceeded to start to print the menus after we had sat down, she had a calamitous time with the printer, paper jamming, ink running out etc, finally managing to print off ‘one’ menu between the three of us, immediately crossing out the Duck as not available ….. does make you wonder why that line wasn’t just deleted before printing so it never appeared as an option. We attracted her attention so we could order drinks, rather than being offered as in most places ….. it all felt like they just weren’t ready for guests. I’m not saying it was poor service, perhaps farcical may be a more suitable description. The hostess did apologise for what she herself admitted must look really unprofessional, yes the first 20 minutes or so did seem like a carry on film!

I feel I must respond to a dreadful review made a few weeks ago about this little gem of a restaurant.

We visited this restaurant, New Year 2019. The only good thing I can say is that the Steak and the mushroom accompaniment I had with my main was delicious (although it should be at 28 pounds!), the other food was ordinary at best. I have been eating-out for over 35 years and this experience was disappointing and truly forgettable. The service was surly and amateurish and my overall impression was of a pretentious establishment masquerading as a French Bistro, it is in no way 'fine dining'.

This booking was made over a week before attendance and happily they are more "old school" and don't ask for credit card details at the time.

Visited with family over the Christmas period for a get together. Service was great and greeted and chatted to when entered makes all the difference! Food was superb and atmosphere was great lots of people enjoying themselves, nice decor and friendly staff topped with delicious food. Will definitely be back.

Had the Christmas menu for a Saturday lunch-time. Couldn’t find any vault at all here, loved the restaurant, A group of 8 friends all enjoyed the food – I chose the risotto, turkey for main and sticky toffee pudding for pudding. Friendly staff, great value, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Went for Sunday lunch, only our second time here unfortunately. Couldn't fault anything. Quirky decor, efficient and friendly staff and amazing food. Had salmon with various types of beetroot to start and seabass with a bisque as main. Both delicious with some decent wine too. Love the atmosphere here, makes me think of France as it would fit right in. Will return soon.

We had a very enjoyable family meal on Saturday evening, the staff were amazing, always pleasant and very friendly. I had the most delightful Crispy Welsh belly pork & black pudding celeriac, apple, hazelnut and shallot dressing Starter, followed by the Rump of Lamb, There was a good selection of Gin's which i would have loved to had tried, But I was the designated driver (yet again!). The wine selection was good, and every one (else) enjoyed Sancerre and the Red (Should have taken note) what they selected followed by a dessert wine. I loved the eclectic decor, and will definitely return.

I had been here for lunch a few times but some years ago. I thought they did an express businessmen's lunch then. I arrived at 12.25 and left at 14.05 and the only other diners the whole time were one couple. I don't need raucous but that rather spoiled the ambiance. As stated in other reviews, this place is a sort of throwback to previous times in its decor and general atmosphere. It is rather out of the way although an easy bus ride from the town centre. The food was top quality, including the surprise amuse bouche - a tiny hot pepper soup with bread. My starter was mushroom soup and the main was lamb rump, medium. There was just a trace of pink so just right. I asked for my sticky toffee pudding dessert to be properly warmed through, which may have been a mistake, It was certainly warm but a bit crusty on the edges, suggesting that it might have been overdone. Also, the plate did not appear to have been pre-warmed. On probably the coldest day of the winter so far, it is a shame that the front door, which opens directly onto the eating area, has to be manually closed otherwise it sticks in the open position. The service was friendly and attentive so it was all a bit of a mixed bag. It should be noted that the restaurant owner/manager was not there on this occasion. For what you get, the value was was acceptable, although twice the cost of lunch at my favourite bistro in town. In a respectable but not noticeably upmarket area I wonder how many people regularly spend nearly £50 on a midweek lunch.

This is a restaurant for the ages that doesn't know how good it is, or if it did, I suspect would be too humble to take the praise. Bully's is how eating out should be - I would have said "used to be" but it would make me sound dated (or at least more than I am) and Bully's old fashioned and it's really not, it's wonderfully modern in a warm and familiar, quirky and individual old school reinvented kinda way. I called and left a message to ask if I could find space for me and my family of 4 - the manager called me back (I was already impressed) and rejigged the space on an already busy Saturday night to fit us in. The food was absolutely fantastic and faultless from the kitchen, simple and great ingredients brought elegantly up to date. Amazing Negronis, great wine list well sampled, and everything very fairly priced. Couldn't have been more accommodating to me, my wife and my kids catering for one gluten free and indulging my 8 year old very kindly with colouring his individually designed place mats. For the cynic who wonders how many of these sorts of reviews are real let me tell you why I'm bothering. First, I don't really "do" Trip Advisor except for when things go bad and I feel frustrated and want to warn people not to waste their money, but, went online to try to find Russ's (owner) mail to write directly and nope, no email. Good for him I thought. Then I saw the "controversy" about the restaurant's response to no shows and thought, wow, admire you even more for making a stand. This family business deserves every success and I'll be back to enjoy it. Bravissimo Bully's!

Went here for dinner last night,everything was lovely,food great,staff great atmosphere. Wish I lived closer would be a regular! Had salmon to start,Welsh lamb followed by apple tarte tattin. Wine choices good loved being able to have vouvray by the carafe!

Went on a Friday evening and loved everything about the place. The food was delicious, the house wine great and the host very friendly. Portion size was good, plates well presented and the taste really good. If ever back in Cardiff this will be top of my list.

This was our 1st visit to Cardiff overnight and we booked Bully's based on the TripAdvisor feedback and we were not disappointed.

Had a lovely meal, especially loved the ham hock starter. Chocolate mousse with Tonka ice cream was absolutely fantastic and that’s quite something coming from someone who is not a dessert fan. Will be back soon.

We decided to eat here in the evening on the 1st of November 2018 as a couple. The staff were very welcoming and polite, not long after having been seated we were told that the table is ours for as long as we wished. Therefore, we immediately felt comfortable. The food was of great quality and well presented, the "amuse-bouche" was a pleasant and delicious surprise. We were asked several times if things were okay, which again made us feel very looked after. Once we had finished eating, we enjoyed the fact that the staff were perfectly happy to wait until we were ready to pay and go.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Bullys. Was lucky enough to get a voucher for my birthday. Had the smoked salmon and advocado puree starter, really loved the thick slices of salmon. Steak with gorgeous pepper sauce......oooh and the fondant potato!

I've clearly left it too long between visits. Never been for Sunday dinner here before , and definitely coming back. Firstly the staff were superb, friendly, attentive and casual , just making for a chilled out Sunday vibe . They made it very clear that we should take our time despite us being the last customers of the day and the restaurant being empty when our main courses arrived . They'd had an earlier rush of customers, but we like our Sunday dinner at dinner time , not lunch time .

We were a party of 11 for our 50th wedding anniversary and we had a fantastic time.

A lovely cosy place for lunch with friends. The service was great with the staff - attentive and friendly. The meal was excellent..the salmon starter, in particular. The roast beef, potatoes and vegetables was delicious. Also, it was good to have a jug of extra gravy..without asking for it! We skipped on the dessert, but it did sound delicious.

Had my 30th birthday in the old place, whilst this place is a little more cosy the food is outstanding and the sunday dinner is to die for! well done all!

I have wanted to go to this restaurant many time so was excited to visit for the first time! My husband & I had the same dishes goat cheese Bon bobs with beetroot so fresh & tasty followed by beef sirloin roast dinner - the beef melted in the mouth but was so tasty veg cooked to perfection - can’t wait to go back on a week day for their normal menu tastiest food I have had in a long time and I am quite hard to please well done will be back

Have been to Bully’s many times and have to say the food, the service and attention to detail is always fantastic. Seasonal menus matched with an extensive wine menu to suit. The kitchen are happy to cater for any requirements we may have. Those that haven’t been, you’re missing out. We will be returning very soon.

I am a relatively regular customer at Bully's on Wales match days and love it then - great food, delicious wines and terrific atmosphere. But my wife and I took some friends there for dinner recently and my positive expectations were exceeded. The food was truly excellent, the wines beyond delicious and the service, led by Russell, absolutely outstanding. Bully's really is top drawer stuff.

It’s just great when places get things right and Bully’s have done it again. Just a super place to eat, somewhere that knows what it wants to do and then does it. 6 or so choices in each section of the menu, we had 4 different from the starters and mains and they were all delicicious. This is backed up by the best wine list I have come across and super service, the patron/owner is always there and happy to chat about the produce. This is definitely my favourite place to eat in Cardiff so visit if you get a chance.

Very tasty Sunday lunch, only let down by the fact that our plates, for all three courses, were less than clean. Around the edge of each plate was a film of grease, albeit only a slight film, but nevertheless something that should not be present. Did it detract from the delicious food, sad to say that it did, but easily remedied going forwards.

Friends booked Bully’s for our lunch on a hot Summer day....we were the only people in the restaurant and so the service was perfect! Bully, the owner, was chatty and happy to entertain our questions and demands.

Husband took me to Bully’s for my birthday recently as we’d heard good things. Don’t get me wrong, the food was lovely and I really like the quirky wall decor, but....

I’d specifically gone into this restaurant- having had a decent first experience- to book a particular table due to a relatives hearing issues. I was assured the table was reserved then arrived tonight to be seated at a a nearby but acoustically entirely unsuitable table. I was then told there was no specific table request, but a general area. We then hurried through an ok meal as all the hearing issues we’d been trying to avoid came true as it became louder and louder on the table we had booked. We therefore only had a main, which was made even worse by the young male waiter slamming mustard on the table with such rudeness that another relative ruefully remarked upon it. Seeing the way other regulars were treated in comparison to ourselves, I can only conclude this is one of those restaurants that is great if you’re in with the staff and the team but not one to go to otherwise. We will never return, but I doubt they will be bothered as they made absolutely no effort to make up for a a total failure to deliver what was promised, but rather just made it worse snd worse.

Went on a Sunday for my mother in law’s birthday. The salmon and heirloom tomato and goats cheese starter were light and refreshing. The beef sirloin main was the best roast I have ever had. And I don’t say that lightly. Beef was pink and tender. Roast potato’s fluffy and crispy, just like granny’s. The tarte Tatin was sticky and buttery. My wife had the Panacotta which was as good as it gets. I stole half. Can’t wait to go back.

Went to Bully’s tonight, food was lovely, have the beef it’s delicious.

Every time i go here it is consistently excellent, Friendly service, staff are always very knowledgable, and the food is always perfect. A quirky dining room with interesting decor. It has quickly become my favourite place to visit in Cardiff.

Visited after reading reviews as we wanted a small intimate venue for our anniversary.We were not disappointed a well balanced menu,excellent service,and wonderful food.reminded us of the type of small bistro you get in Paris.My only gripe and its a personal one,there is a service charge which was written in biro on the bill,not very professional and detracted a bit from the overall experience.

Incredible quirky and eclectic decor, lovely atmosphere and amazing staff -- been twice now and one of my favourite places this end of Cardiff. Unprententious, French-inspired cuisine, fresh ingredients, menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce.

Having visited Bully’s a number of times previously it never fails to impress.

Amazing food & service! I had the lamp and it was cooked to perfection. We were given an onion soup taster whilest we waited for our mains and it was incredible. I will defiantly be back!

Onion soup - delicious. Lamb rump - delicious. Potato fondant - delicious. Seasonal veg - delicious. Sticky toffee pudding - holy moly.
