Beautiful food served by the friendly owner

Outstanding… Hearty, authentic French food full of flavour in a family run restaurant. Highly recommend the crème brûlée and ice creams, all home made. Also the dauphinois potatoes. Lots of great vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Staff were really friendly. Don't miss this place if you're visiting Swansea

Lovely place with amazing food, presented beautifully and very friendly staff. You have to reserve before you go here, but it is definitely worth while.

The owners have a passion for good food. Well varied menu with their own twist on each dish. Service was relaxed and attentive. 8 of us all enjoyed the quality of the food and the experience provided.

We booked well in advance for my wife 60 birthday ! Was put in corner as they had booked another party for 60 anniversary! And had a few issues with food starters of moules lacked flavour and was told that’s how they were meant to be ! Chef agreed with us ! But once we complained felt ignored and isolated in corner ! Won’t be going back in a hurry ! Felt that our special occasion was spoilt

Nice 'french" restaurant in a quiet location on the edge of the city. Very quiet on a Thursday evening so not much atmosphere. Good and varied menu and wine list. Friendly owner/hostess who makes everyone feel very welcome. Well worth a visit.

At this French eatery we chatted to some regular customers who told us that it was the best restaurant in Swansea. We had no reason to doubt them as we had just had a truely excellent meal. This restaurant is highly commendable. The service and staff , we think the lady is the owner , were top notch and the ambience relaxed. The food was as good as I have had for a long while. The fresh homemade sourdough bread and the amuse bouche were deightful . Starters were poisson soup and large gambas followed by slow roasted duck and fillet of welsh lamb. All of it truely exceptional, cooked to perfection . The wine list matched the quality of the food. Next time that I am in Swansea I will be going back.

In summary, there are not many places in Swansea which serve better food. There are a wide variety of dishes so it made it all the more difficult to chose what to go for! The onion soup was excellent as was the steak. The service is also very friendly, although a little on the slow side but we did visit on a busy evening, so they can be forgiven. The only reason I've not given it the full 5 stars is that is a little on the pricey side, we spent over £150 for dinner for two with some wine (fillet steak just under £40). It could also do with some background music as it did lack a bit of atmosphere when we first arrived (before it filled up). Will 100% be back again and definitely recommend it.

Absolutely fantastic food. everythink freshly coocked for the order. I was avarage hungry and decided to take the main and dessert. It was a good decision, Couscous Royale and Le Chocolate plus glass of cabernet blanc and a cup of coffe and i was full. Flavourfull and tasty experience, definitely recommend.

Very quaint little restaurant. Charming welcome and hostess who was very sweet and attentive. The scallops were stunning, though too much lemon in the mussels for my taste. However the delightful surprise was the banana sorbet, would be coming back for that alone!

I visited as a part of a large work event. It was midweek, and the restaurant opened specially for us. The atmosphere was good, even though half the restaurant was closed off, so I imagine on a busy night it would be even better. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu had a wide range, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes. There was also a large wine list, which some of my colleagues took full advantage of. The food was excellent; a Tarte Tatin de Canard starter, with Vegan Couscous as a main. Several people in our group had dessert, which looked amazing. Nothing on the menu was cheap, and expect to spend at least £50-£60 per head for three courses and drinks. All in all, I would highly recommend a visit.

A little gem in Swansea. The service was top notch, made you feel like you were at a swanky restaurant! They were always happy to help and were very pleasant. Food was unbelievable! Really tasty and vibrant. The only let down was that the triple cooked chips were likely frozen chips cooked to death.

Had a "take-away" last night. Everything was securely packed and ready at the agreed time. Importantly, the food was absolutely perfect, including even the basil and rocket garnishes. Eco containers can be kept warm or re- heated in a low oven/microwave, allowing time for a couple of drinks before you serve up. Full instructions provided. A wonderful service that Swansea is lucky to have.

What an experience,excellent food great service, good value for money, restaurant doesn't look the best from the outside but inside is beautiful, really first rate dining experience, host started with a delicious free entree, followed by 3 courses of excellent food. Atmosphere was really good with tables spaced to have really great audible conversation. My son was that impressed he wants to take girlfriend for their anniversary. 10/10

This amazing french restaurant provides stunning tasty food consistently- we have visited over a number of year & always had delicious meals. Make a diversion to eat here & don’t be put off by the area!! Now that we now live relatively nearby we shall be coming a lot more. The service is friendly and attentive with a personal touch. The little taster of buckwheat pancakes with cheese & chives gives a wonderful preview of the quality of food about to arrive. We came on a Friday night for my partners birthday & had a superb 3 course meal, including snails, gambas, confit duck, rack of lamb & strawberry Charlotte. The accompanying potatoes for both dishes were both delicious & green beans perfect. I don’t normally have dessert but managed to finish the strawberry Charlotte as it was so delicious & my partner devoured the Chocolat dessert selection. Wine is perfectly chosen for the food & all at an incredibly reasonable price. Loved it all & will be back v soon.

I would like to review the food but am unable to . Went on Thursday evening at 8. There were diners at only 2 tables but i was told as I didnt have a reservation there was nothing they could do . I tried to reserve on Saturday by phone and left a voicemail to ask if there was anything for 7.45. No reply but went there. Place about two thirds full but again I was told that I had not made a reservation and that I had come in a couple of nights before doing the same thing . It was truly like an episode from Fawlty Towers with a customer treated like an inconvenience .

This was our second visit, two years after our first meal at Pant-Y-Gwydr. We were excited to return and despite our high expectations we were not at all disappointed. The meal was superb, with exquisitely balanced flavours and attention to detail. The menu is clearly well practiced with limited variation, but it doesn’t matter as there is plenty to choose from. We had two children in our party (aged 9 and 13) and whilst there isn’t a children’s menu we were able to use a couple of options modified to accommodate them. Children with unsophisticated palates might not be as well catered for. The interior appears to have been redecorated since we last visited and it felt more homely and comfortable than our first visit. The location of the restaurant is out of keeping with the quality of the food and service, but do not let that put you off from visiting.

Returned to the restaurant after a gap but the service and quality are still there. We used to eat here every Christmas for years. This was a quiet lunch. The escargots and navarin of Welsh lamb were excellent as were my friend's gambas and sea bass with the delicious house wine. All served with quiet efficiency by the lovely Michelle. We appreciated the amuse bouche and chocolate truffles. This is not cheap food but shows devotion to the culinary arts

Wow!!!! The food and service was so outstanding that we have booked a larger table for two weeks time. I had a mixture of vegan and non vegan food, my family the same. All our dishes were of the highest standards, perfectly displayed and served with professionalism that you would expect from a 5star hotel. I can't praise this restaurant enough.

I have to say, it wasn’t great. Review wise this place ticks all the boxes, and the fact the restaurant has been operating in the area for many years gave me the impression that this was going to be a top restaurant (There isn’t that many in Swansea). The service is good, very friendly staff but unfortunately the quality is just not there. Your better off heading to bouchon de rossi/beach house if your looking to get your moneys worth for quality food.

With widespread upheaval in the Hospitality industry, it is a challenging time to provide an excellent experience for the customer which justifies the costs associated with eating out. Pant-Y-Gwydr maintains an excellent standard throughout. A warm, welcoming setting is exemplified by the standard of service, managing the fine balance between being attentive but not intrusive. The food is where pant-y-gwydr shines, with quality ingredients skillfully incorporated into adventurous but traditional dishes and cooked & presented perfectly. Although prices everywhere have risen, the pant-y-gwydr provides superb value for money considering the quality of food on offer, albeit at the premium end of the scale. This is clearly not a restaurant for weekly casual dining, but is outstanding as a luxurious treat.

For such constant perfection Jacques just has to be a fantastic chef in this restaurant which serves superb food. Given my weekly consumption of meals here or takeaways during lockdown as well as now occasionally, it has been suggested that I move in. Lunchtime today I had the vegetable soup, the seabass prepared to a Nicoise recipe, the tarte tatin and, of course their great coffee. Plus a couple of large glasses of the excellent and very reasonable house white. I'm more of a meat eater and red wine drinker so today was a departure from steak (amazing every time), duck, lamb, chicken-ok all superb always and served in wonderful tasting sauces. I skim over the range of starters - the fish soup is stunning and the pavé de champignons another personal favourite - and then the amazing home made (like pretty much everything on the food menu) desserts. Swansea would be a lot duller for friends and I without this place.

Found Pant Y Gwydr in May 2022 and took a friend for lunch, have since returned 3 times and will continue to. Excellent quality food at decent prices, a gem of a place in Swansea.

Fantastic food as simple as that

I have and still do travel, eat and drink well in France and I have to complement the restaurant with its authenticity and quality of French regional dishes. The restaurant prices are probably similar to those in France.

Very accommodating as we were going to see Jo Brand at Grand theatre. Had 3 courses which were delicious. Owner makes you feel welcome and young staff could easily be at home in michelin star establishments. Top notch.

Very delicious food, especially the fillet of beef

I visited this restaurant twice during a trip from Thailand to South Wales and on both occassions the food was divine. I had been looking for a special place to take a long lost friend and Pant-Y-Gwydr did not dissapoint. Both myself and my friend were delighted with the food and wine selection. First visit we had reserved but on the second we had not reserved and just walked in and was told that they normally didn't accept walk in's but they made an exception, so to avoid dissapointment it's better if you reserve a table, unfortunately I dont think that this is explained on their website. Overall a great place in Swansea for fine French food.

10 years ago I first discovered this restaurant when I lived in Swansea and I loved it back then. I have since turned vegan. French cuisine is classically animal product heavy and the French vegan cuisine I have tasted (including a vegan French restaurant in Paris!) has been very forgettable. I was flabbergasted and so excited to see the addition of so many vegan options on the menu! The dishes was thoughtful and creative and I couldn't wait to try. The menu exceeded all expectations... A thoughtful amuse bouche celebrating the humble delicious tomato was aburst with flavour The Millefeuille of vegetables with a prominent earthy spinach sauce and also tasted the gateau de courgette with gently layered ribbons of courgette atop a delicious filling with a rich tomato sauce. For main I indulged in the couscous/vegetable tagine and vegan tofu croquettes - beautifully sculpted and flavoursome croquettes and the vegetables sung in the tagine bathed in an umami rich sauce and never did I think cous cous could be cooked so beautifully. A carafe of Beaujolais to hand to complement these vegetables beautifully. The piece de resistance was indeed dessert - I was concerned that I would never be able to taste the trio that is the incredible, irresistible, mouthwatering and ingenious "la vanille" - however a vegan version appeared on the menu and my dreams came true! Whilst it is challenging to substitute eggs in dessert - this was the best vegan version of creme brulee I have ever tasted. And wow - the raspberry sorbet - I was in heaven! (Sadly I was so in the moment I forgot to snap a pic!) I am speechless and booking my next meal as we speak eventhough I now live 4 hours away! Worth traversing the country for without a doubt! I appreciate so much your exploration and embrace of plant based food 🙏 This is the best dining out vegan experience I have EVER experienced! Book now!

Booked table early as we were going to the grand. Haven't been here for a few years but was again not disappointed. Service was excellent and the food ...wow. we were given a cheese and chive taster followed by mushroom starter which was delicious. My wife had fillet rossini and I had chicken breast both with triple fries. Desserts were a strawberry sponge with cream dish and the other was triple ice cream Finished off with an espresso. Fabulous start to the evening. We will return

The staff and food at the Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant is absolutely fabulous 👌 If you haven't been there, give it a go, you won't be dissapointed. The wine list is excellent, coffee to die for.

The food was amazing. Wine was never "served". First round of wine was just bottles left on the table; I would expect it to be poured for us at a high end establishment. Course timing was precise and meat temps spot on.

I can't believe how rude a member of staff was to my partner just now on the phone. He called to cancel our reservation for this evening due to an emergency and she was extremely rude for no reason and hung up on him.

The food was amazing, everything to the starter to dessert.We went with friends who had been there often but not for a long time. They said they haven't been for 2 years but nothing had changed it was still excellent.

What a gorgeous menu! We tried all of the vegan options between us and they were all outstanding, creative and fresh but with a rustic base that made everything feel so comforting! Lovely service by the lady who owns it, would highly recommend to anyone looking for wonderful food cook individually and supporting a small business. Consistently excellent food and service

Michele runs a tight ship. Staff professional and efficient. Food was amazing. Our large party were extremely happy on every level. Presentation of food was a joy to behold surpassed only by the taste. Excellent.
