We popped in while in Hanbury on the Hill at lunchtime, mid week, we wanted to sus the place out for an evening meal while holidaying in the area. We sat in the middle bar, the fire was roaring, and there was good humour from the punters in there. We felt very welcome. The staff were absolutely lovely, which made it a very relaxed atmosphere. Before leaving, we took a look at the restaurant, it was so inviting that we decided to book in for the following evening.
Fast forward to Thursday evening, on arrival, we were welcomed by Saf, despite it being a very new menu, she was very well versed and helped to direct us to our final decision. The food was spot on, I chose the Black Bean and Aubergine Tagine, my wife chose the Fish and Chips, great sized portions, hot, high class, and tasty food.
DRINKS: I had the Timothy Taylor Landlord, a great drink, well kept.
Wifey had a Pinot Grigio.
We cannot wait to visit again very soon and in the future with family.
Thank you to Saf and the other staff.

Wanted to order online but couldn't get any further than adding items. Kept saying it needed details which I'd already confirmed. Website needs sorting. Rang to order and got a very unsociable person taking the order. Almost hung up and ordered from Domino's. Customer service definitely needs improving. Had pizza before and it's really nice but not sure we'll be ordering again any time soon because of the person at the other end of the phone. Maybe employ someone who is willing to help when taking orders????
We came to this branch rather than Derby for a change and wow! We were blown away by the attentive staff, wonderful manager and quick service. It’s clear that the manageress is brilliant and leads by example… We turned up at 11:40, the door was held open for us by staff arriving before us, seated with a smile. Another member of staff was polishing the tiles on the wall and the place was spotless. The manager greeted me at the till and was so friendly and personable. The staff all entered the restaurant bang on 12 like a well drilled team and went to their stations smiling. Every member of staff were very polite and genuine. It was almost like eating at a high end restaurant how well we were treated. We can’t praise this branch enough and it honestly made our day. We’ll be back!
Sunday lunch today was a shocker.
Meat- cold
Veg- cold unseasonal
Gravy- thin & watery
Roasties- undercooked, dense inside
Yorkie- cold
Cauli cheese- tiny ramekin containing 4 florets for 3 of us
First Easter I have not worked so I come to somewhere that I have previously enjoyed.
Michelin, the AA, top 50 gastro pub…. Today’s lunch was undeserving of any of these accolades & any chef of this level should be ashamed of what my family was served.
Our waiter though was as friendly as in our other visits.
We came to an advertised event at the jinnie with a singer. The weather was fantastic. The garden was busy. The poor girl behind the bar was left all on her own. She did a fantastic job but was overwhelmed by the volume of people. The garden quickly emptied as the wait for drinks was too long. I put a post on the pubs Facebook page but it was removed. I felt so sorry for the girl as she was all alone. One of the customers children aged 8 and 10 had to collect glasses as the poor girl behind the bar was run off her feet. What a terrible shame. Management nowhere to be seen. Xx
Ordered a burger value box 2
But the chicken they sent was only half cooked pink
That's why it's called value you only pay for a half cook
Do not recommend
Good pub food, great atmosphere and really helpful, efficient and friendly staff. Served by Ceri and Maisie, who were very nice. Clare is a fantastic smiley member of staff.
