Albion in East Staffordshire

Booked a table Booking reference: DMN-16880455201 with friends, nobody welcomes you as you arrive, having to wait at the bar from other customers to get served before you can get seated. Realising at the table you order food on the App... App Wasn't letting most of the grill items to be selected therefore had to go back to the bar again waiting for over 15 minutes for bar staff, we decided to leave as nobody seems interested in serving food only selling drinks. Such a shame as last time we came gave a 5 star review. Looks like a drinking venue now and not an eating venue.

Another great quiz night last and good atmos - looking forward to next weeks bash keep raising the bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Called in on the way back from a busy shopping trip kids were hungry (as were we!) food was delivered quickly everything was cooked really well and all served with a smile from the staff - will definitely be returning soon

We decided to book the Albion for a late Sunday lunch on a truly miserable autumn day. The food was fabulous and the service excellent. We were very happy with our choices of meals and puddings and will gladly return. Many thanks tovthe whole team.

Been here a few times & previously had some serious issues, BUT this time no complaints! Had the Sunday roast at 7pm, 1/2 roast chicken plus all the usual, it was very good! Next time will try the Ultimate Southern fried chicken again to see of my preferences are adhered to? But on this occasion, well done the Albion!

Sophie was not nice at all and stank she doesn’t belong working there at all she horrid girl all other staff. Ok not Sophie she very rude and doesn’t know how to handle peoples

what an amazing place! we loved our visit to the Albion, the pub was lovely and clean. the food and the staff were extremely helpful. one of the people with us had a allergy and they dealt with this very well. will definitely be coming back!

As always we had a fantastic time at the albion. food and service were good with a brilliant atmosphere. we are regulars here and will definitely be returning again.

The leaflets around the pub say "A steak & drink for £12.75", but the tills say its £14.95 & they refused to budge & insisted on charging the till price! This is not acceptable but becoming typical of the Albion. Last time they screwed up the allergy/dietary preferences (due to microwave chef not liking a picky customer?)

Great moretti really friendly staff food excellent, good atmosphere great for dogs made to feel welcome and the garden is spot onto

Watched the first England game here tonight. Great atmosphere, great food, great staff, esp Casey, serving 👍⚽️🥰. Will be back in on Thursday for the next game if not before ⚽️

Staff are second the none. Always polite and the service is great. There are great deals on food 7 days a week, and the kids menu has plenty to offer and caters for all my kids taste buds.

Good tasty drinks easy booking not that busy wold definitely go again lots of leg space when yous sit down great for my step mums party fairly quiet

went here for some lunch, waited an hour and a half for food for it to come out charred and tasting burnt, burger was dry, chips were luke warm

Sadly, I can't review the food as we booked a table for 6.30pm, and after waiting to order for 15 minutes at the bar, we were told we wouldn't get our food for 90 minutes!!!! So we left. They obviously aren't equipped for being busy on a bank holiday, as there was not enough staff to cope with the amount of customers. If you are willing to sit drinking for a couple of hours before eating that's fine, but we wanted to eat at the time we'd booked for.

Poor hygiene!!!!! I went to the bathroom to see a staff member use the toilet and leave without washing her hands! This is the same waitress who was serving meals to tables!! A member of staff who I complained to, told me the staff are made to wash their hands in the kitchen before serving food. I know this is untrue as my friend was a staff member there less than a year ago! Absolutely disgusting!!!

We had Sunday lunch here for my grandsons birthday and it was really dissapointing a small amount of mash a greasy Yorkshire pudding undercooked vegetables and the beef was awful we weren't asked if we enjoyed our meal but I'm glad because I was not happy and it's not the servers fault it's the chef so six of us left and home for food because we were all still hungry.

Absolutely amazing service and the food was awesome special thanks to Niamh and char for the table service and the head chef so thank you guys very much made our Christmas xx

We took the residents today for a Christmas meal and it was beautiful. The portion sizes were really big, everything came out on time no delays and there was 16 of us in total. The residents really enjoyed there afternoon out massive thank you to all the staff, I would highly recommended the Christmas meal it was beautiful.

We went to the Albion in a big group for my mums 60th meal it was beautiful all meals came out really hot for saying there was so many of us . Staff were great and helpful very organised will defo recommend this place to eat and celebrate . Thank you

Came here with a few friends on a Thursday. Didn't realise they did a quiz but it was absolutely fantastic. All the staff were incredibly friendly and our server casey (I believe her name was) helped us with all our questions and got us everything we asked for. We finished the night with a few games of pool in their raised area and a game of darts in their sports area. Will 1000% be back :)

The pub was very busy which gave it a lively ambience. There was a good selection of food which came quickly, and was plentiful and hot. We were seated at Table 1 which is a little cold as it's near the door and there's constant traffic. Staff were friendly and service quick

I've been here a few times now, everytime the service and the standards have been incredible. The team are so friendly and professional. This particular occasion we came for the kids Halloween party, the pub was extremely busy, we had an amazing time, and the kids had such a great time aswell. Such a great event for the family. We will definitely recommend, and keep coming back.

With a limited amount of time for lunch, the Albion provided a great lunch with speedy service. Their Staff are always friendly & helpful. Great option for a lunchtime break during a busy working week.

Only 1 star as zero isn’t an option! After last visiting back in April & being disappointed then & many times before… (always hit & miss here), I thought I’d give it one last go as it’s 5mins walking distance from home. We walked in and ordered drinks and food for my son & I, went and sat down at the table we’d ordered for and began the wait. After approx 35 mins waiting I went up to the bar to enquire how long our food would be. Let’s just say, our conversation didn’t inspire a great deal of confidence. It then transpired that our order had been placed for another table beside us, no issue as no one was sat there but it was apparent that our order hadn’t even been started. It was then explained to me that the delay was due to them being busy, as they had a party of 10 in on another table and only 2 chefs in the kitchen. Sorry, but if that’s what you call a busy evening I’d find an alternative career for you and your team. I was refunded for the food (not the drinks as “we’d already drunk them”) - had we known how terrible the service & wait was going to be we would’ve walked straight back out the doors. As mentioned earlier, the Albion has been hit & miss for a few years now, but after this latest abysmal level of service it’s permanently off the list of places to go.

My extended family met here for a family dinner. Where to start? The staff weren’t Helpful and the food was awful. Some of us Had ordered Sunday roasts. The meat was tough couldn’t cut it. the veg was undercooked and the mashed potato was only a tiny portion. The Yorkshire pudding was dreadful soggy and unappetising. The desert was an improvement but only just. Was it a memorable experience yes but for all the wrong reasons. When we arrived the noise from the TV was deafening. The staff refused to turn it down saying it created an atmosphere. Nobody but them appeared to be watching it. Certainly not a place where I want to return.

Not one to leave reviews but this is a MUST!!Went in for a meal and a few games of pool. We had a warm welcome by the manager, and found that the pool was FREE every Monday - WINNER. All the starters were DELICIOUS, Mega stack chicken was lovely and moist as with the gammon, Chips were lovely and crispy on outside fluffy in the middle, LOVELY, Hubby loved it. Son and I had the chicken burger and cowboy burger. SCRUMPTIOUS! We had a fantastic evening and all the bar staff were fantastic. Had a right laugh with them. The young lady serving us at the table did not stop, she was very polite at all times, Right person in the right job, this was mentioned to the manager. We had a great time and will certainly be returning!!! Already recommended to family and friends :))) 10/10 TO YOU ALL

Some years ago this was a poor unwelcoming place. Now the atmosphere is great, the food excellent and with a good range of beer/lagers/ciders. Particularly the staff are so friendly, cheerful, and helpful. They are the stars especially the young lady covering the miles serving the food.You can be sure that we will be calling again when we are in the area - it is some 90 miles from home.

Bar staff and owner are the one. Cant fault it. Good booze and friendliest I’ve met. Recommend it fully

My husband and I had a steak meal last Thursday. My steak was tough, my husband's was underdone. The chips were greasy and some of them quite hard. Our meals were serve on a slate. What a stupid idea. The peas were rolling all over the place. Some ended up on my husbands lap. We were glad that they didn't have any pepper sauce. Won't come back for a meal in a hurry.

Booked a table for 4 on 25/09/21 for 6.45pm was at the bar for 6.30 pm to tell staff we had a booking. One girl serving on a Saturday night stood waiting for half an hour and still had 6 people in front of me waiting to be served . In the end we had had enough told one girl behind the bar we was leaving total shambles .We ended up at the horse shoes Tatenhill was served drinks straight away and food soon after.As for the albion never again needs some sort of manager that can run it properly this is a so called flag ship pub right next to the brewery with no flag

Visited the Albion on a Sunday afternoon, been taken over and the landlord is very welcoming. very polite staff and such a great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming here again… such a great team. You should be very proud ! X

Awful experience, walked in there was loads of empty tables we were waiting to be seated, all 4 members of staff kept staring at us, then one member of staff said to the other ‘Theyre going to ask for a table say no’ , wont be returning. Not one member of staff greeted us, think they need a lesson in customer service.

Never been to the Albion and I must say we were fairly impressed. The presentation of the food was amazing and the bar service was good considering how busy it was. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a new place to dine or hang out

23 sat down for a meal. 1 hour after the first plate is served only half have got the meals they ordered. Bar staff not taking food orders 2 hour delay! I say Sack the chef!

Booked here for double birthday meal, waited an hour after ordering,meal arrived cold, burgers were obviously frozen and overcooked to the point of being inedible chicken,onion ring and chips all cold, complained to staff, reply was if you wait anther hour we will cook another meal or I can microwave this meal to heat it up.....what is going on here, £50+ for a microwave meal.Get your act together Albion hotel. The reason for the one circle rating, it was open.

We booked in advance for my elderly mothers Birthday, upon arrival we were told there would be over an hour wait for food, after over an long hour wait in the conservatory in very hot temperature and no blinds to keep out the sun out our food finally arrived. I had steak and Ale pie which had obviously been re heated in a microwave And hardly any meat most was gristle, and frozen veg that had been cooked and left as it was cold and rubbery. They ran out of chips and we were served skinny fries that had Been over cooked. So very disappointing for my mum. We will not be returning any time soon

My Grandad and I are regulars at The Albion for a reason. We love the food, the staff are friendly & welcoming and the restaurant itself is great. A wonderful outdoor space too.We visit weekly at a lunchtime and today we had Chicken & Bacon Club sandwich and a Cod & Chips. If the ordering app isn’t working or you’re finding it difficult, they will come and take your order from your table. A wonderful place

Went for a meal on a Sunday at 6pm. Only 3 folks in there. Ordered via the app and food took 25 minutes to arrive. Some was cold some was microwaved to boiling point. Pedigree, the flagship drink was poor. Staff were uninterested

Went out for some desserts and had a lovely time. Was seated quickly by a lovely host and ordered via the website was easy and efficient. The place has a lovely cosy vibe and the outdoor space it great. Will be coming back again :)

First visit since dining inside was allowed and was a little nervous. Needn’t have worried as staff were ensuring that all Covid policies were being followed. Choice of food was excellent and they had vegan choices too. In app ordering was quick and easy to use. Food arrived in a reasonable time and did not disappoint. Staff were helpful and friendly. The Albion continues to be our first choice for a meal out. Reasonable prices and friendly atmosphere what more could we want.

On the plus side I can't fault the serving staff. They were polite, friendly and efficient. The rest of the experience was terrible to say the least. The food was of a standard that was borderline awful, but after waiting an hour for it it the best way to describe it is edible. The only reason I did not complain at the table was that the family were treating me for fathers day and I didn't want to upset them. I know it's a Marstons pub and you are eating to a budget, but even this level should be of a higher standard.I can genuinely say that the quality of the food today was enough to put me off from eating here again. Not a good fathers day treat, and from the looks of the diners around me, not a good day for quite a few others too.

We visited as a party of 5, 3 adults and 2 children having pre-booked our table, did take a while for our food and drinks to arrive but food was worth the wait, plentiful and hot, staff very helpful and couldn't do enough to help.

I've been to see the team at the Albion again as 8ts my favourite stop off when I'm in Burton and yet again the standard was high and the service was fast and efficient. Peter , Charlotte and the team always seem to hit the highest standards and I've never had a bad meal or a bad pint. The food was piping hot and of a high standard and the beers on offer are good and there's a good range too. I'd recommend The Albion to any of my friends or family. Thanks again guys had a great day

We visited for the husbands birthday and was not disappointed at all, the service was 110% as was the friendliness of the staff, they couldn't have done anything more to make our time there more special. Peter and Charlotte keep up the good work you are both along with your staff a credit to Marsden's. We will be back soon xx

Visited this magnificent coach house of a pub, and what a treat! Great selection of ales and lagers, as well as wine and spirits, food was great too, perfect temperature and great presentation, not long a wait either. Great COVID secure space, plenty of parking and clean toilets also. Staff were very friendly and helpful, too place, we will be back. Thanks Albion

Myself and the better half fancied a bite to eat for dinner, lunch to most :) so thought we'd pop in and grab a bite. The lad showed us to our table and took our drinks orders. He explained everything was to be ordered on the app but as we found out straight away it wasn't working so he got us a couple of menus which was sound. The wife ordered the hunters chicken and I ordered a burger. We didn't have to wait long for the food which was nice. I would love to say it was the best burger I've ever had but alas I cannot. I would be generous and say 3 out of 10. Over cooked and lacking any real taste of quality. Our lass rated her chicken the same again overcooked. We have eaten here before and the food has been fine but today it really was poor. No trips back for the foreseeable

Lovely pub surroundings, but service shocking! Waited over an hour for food . Also struggled to get a proper Guinness ordered. First time came not a full pint and when requested it topping up, came back with lemonade in. The final attempt got delivered to the wrong table! Not really impressed

Visited Burton Albion public House last night with friends. Was welcomed by a lovely gentleman named Dylan. The service was excellent from the moment we were greeted and shown our garden table.Not being very clued up on using my mobile for ordering Dylan couldnt have been more helpful making eveything stress free.Sanitation was very good and i felt comfortable that everything was clean.Drinks were delivered and food was piping hot i can not recommend this place enough.

Called for a drink now that lockdown has lifted. Didn’t know what to expect and was slightly nervous as husband has been shielding for nearly a year. We need not have worried, outdoor seating is spaced out, in app ordering is quick and easy. Staff friendly and professional. Other customers were all abiding by the rules. Felt happy relaxed and safe during our visit will definitely visit again.

only come here for grandkids and it is God awful. wife’s fish came out and it was frozen in the middle so sent back and it took half an hour for her second choice to come. i don’t expect much from chain pubs but come on, can you people up the standards a bit? all the food is our of packets i presume. playground is not safe either as there is a back bit behind the bushes that could be hazardous if a child fell in to that little stream.

We visited The Albion with our 8 month old and they were really great at making us feel safe. Good spacing between tables and decent selection of food on the menu. Will definitely visit again.

No excuse for slow service when the staff outnumbered the customers.The lack of choice and smell of grease will stop me from visiting for the foreseeable future,shame this could be a really nice pub

Pre Covid I might have called in for a drink on a weekly basis, I never really liked or ate from the giant food menu. Since they have reopened I’ve probably been in two or three times a week, and eaten from the new and in my view improved smaller choice menu. I’ve had steak, fish and chips and gammon. There is good spacing between the tables, the staff are all efficient and friendly and the food is good value. I hope they manage to survive in these difficult times so will continue to support them, perhaps the menu will need changing as time goes on in order to be not too repetitive, I’ve noticed most pubs are sticking to these old favourites which is fine but could get boring.

Recently visited with my daughter in law and grandson, all staff were very accommodating, the lunch time menu is brilliant value for money and food just as great. Will definitely be visiting again.

Popped in for a Guinness, to my amazement they don’t serve it! Tried this lovely stout from Marstons instead ‘Pearl Jet’. I’m converted and will definitely be back again! Charlotte was brilliant too!

Very slow service...waited a long time for food...not very hot on arrival..had to request cutlery...pudding below par...will not be going again

Unable to book a table during the Covid crisis. Was able to book pre-Covid. Had to wait outside in the rain for a table. A one hour wait for food. We ordered fish and chips. The batter was like armour plating. At least the peas were edible.

Really disappointed, despite reading some pretty positive reviews, the food was subpar. No salad dressing and no mayonnaise. Stale bread with the starter and a very dry salad. Lasagne was poor quality, no flavour and clearly microwaved from frozen. Staff were apologetic and gave us a full refund, but won't be eating here again.

Visited mid week at lunchtime. Lots of choice on the menu. Food was nice & reasonably priced. Decent sized portions. Will go again.

The Albion is run by a polite and friendly team , they're hard working and do their best to make your visit pleasant and hassle free. The beer is well kept and at the right temperature, their selection of beers, lagers, wines and spirits are enough to get the taste buds going. The food is of the highest quality and knowing the manager , I know the kitchen is impeccable and the staff well trained. I had a curry while I was there and it was excellent, I could find no fault. It was piping hot , well presented and filling too. I can honestly say The Albion is one of the best run pubs I've been in.If you're in Burton upon Trent and you just fancy a quick pint or an indulgent meal and a good atmosphere , I highly recommend you visit Peter, Charlotte and the team at The Albion.

We called here as we were passing and it was the best find ever, staff, food and service was 100% first class. My hubbie was very impressed with the different verity of ales, we will definitely be back

Recently attended this pub for dinner on recommendation of a friend. What a fantastic place, food was great, service was second to none, beer range was great and also the wine was served in a bucket, they even took the time to entertain a challenging child to keep them at rest! Not long of a waiting time for food either. Will see you next week Albion!

We visited the Albion for food & drinks. The food, service & food all fine. The visit was spoilt by 3 Asian males sitting opposite the bar with a white girl. There were loud and lots of bad language e.g f**king ! All could hear ! They needed barring. They emptied the bar.

Just had a mixed grill & couldn't cut through the steak with a steak knife. Sent it back. They did offer to replace it, but i had finished my meal.

Me and my friends had a 3 course meal yesterday evening at The Albion and the food was really lovely with large sized portion’s too! Service was great and the prices are good!

We took our residents to the Albion for their Christmas meal. We were booked in for 12.30, we arrived before 12 and got all of our drinks and at 12.40 I had to ask where the food was, I was told we would be getting them soon but we had to bear with them as it was 20 covers ( it was actually 15) when the meals did start coming out it was a nightmare. The meals came out very slowly with the veg only starting to come out after several meals had meaning they were going cold whilst waiting, I ordered the pie and it was microwaved the stuffing was awful and was cut into inch sized cubes and there was only 1.5 slices of Turkey on the plates, no cranberry sauce was offered. At the end of the main we cleared our own pots to one end of the table to make it easier for the staff. Eventually a bar staff came and told us that the cheesecake we had pre-ordered for 6 of us was unavailable but we were offered Chocolate Torte instead, they knew at the beginning of the meal they didn't have it so why not tell us then?? Again we had to wait for the puddings and when they started coming there was long gaps before the next ones arrived, this would be due to them only microwaving 2 at a time, in the end I still had to ask for another pudding that they had missed out. Again we cleared our own pots to the end of the table, where they stood next to the plates we had already stacked up and noone had come to clear. The bill was wrong, but that was their fault and their loss!! We won't be rebooking.

Nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly enough but the food was not amazing. My wife ordered potato skins and sent them back because they were not crispy, On return they were the same. My chicken was tasty but only warm. Nobody asked us if everything was ok durin the meal.

What a great improvement since I was last there!!! I hadn't been there for at least 6 years and I found that things have improved greatly. The service was speedy, pleasant and friendly. The food was VERY good and well worth the money. It wasn't expensive at all, but very reasonable. My main meal was £6.95. I had the Chicken, Gammon & Mustard Pie from the 'The Pies the Limit' menu. I can highly recommend it. My pudding was the chocolate fudge cake £3.65 and a good size! I will certainly return.

Just paid full price for a kids meal servings are a joke. scampi advertised as 12 but got 10, got about 10 chips and rock hard mushy peas

The pub has a lot of character and should have been a great experience, however the food we ordered was miserable. We ordered snacks with the beers - Nachos (large) and a bowl of chips. The portions were insultingly small - the nachos cost as much as a main course and was pathetic - hardly enough for an entrée! In addition, it wasn't real nachos - just a few corn chips covered with a bit of melted cheese, a spoon of guacamole, some salsa and some peppers. The chips weren't much better - less than you get if you order fish and chips. I love English pub food, but this one was a total disappointment.

Stopped off on the way home from work with a few friends - first time we’ve been in since it was renovated. The feel in the pub is lovely, much more modern and welcoming than before. There is an excellent choice of beers, I was also really impressed after speaking with the bartender (pleasant girl, forgot the name!) who told us how often the guest ales were changed. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, especially considering the price, my pizza was really tasty. We’ll definitely be back!

If this is Marstons flagship pub then I’d hate to go to their other ones. The Sunday lunch me and my family had today was nothing short of embarrassing. Literally the worst Sunday lunch that I’ve been served.

We have been here for meals many times as we were very pleased with everything. on our last visit we ordered two ribeye steaks plus a portion of mushrooms, the mushrooms were disgusting,the ribeye steaks were tough, plates were cold as was the meal. We did get a refund for the mushrooms but was told they were sorry and they would tell the chef. Come on Albion get it right you are sopposed to be the FLAGSHIP of Marstons

Loyal local customer. Since the refurb the Albion has just got better. Great food, fantastic choice of drinks, friendly staff what more could you want. You won’t be disappointed.

We visited The Albion on a Wednesday evening which is curry night (all curries £5 each). Both my wife and I had two marvellous dishes which were well presented, hot and plentiful and served very quickly. Drinks as always were of good quality and served efficiently and quickly by an excellent team of bar staff who as always were very polite and talkative.

Visited today with my family for a celebrating birthday meal., The staff were absolutely outstanding , very friendly and a very nice touch to buying myself a complimentary drink. There were four of us and the food came out together , hot , and most importantly tasty.. a big thank you for you all at Albion , an icing on the cake for a very nice birthday

Had a meal here recently and it was absolutely awful.

We came here for a family lunch it was busy and the staff were nice but long wait for our food it was okay but portions are quite small but would probably go again as we still enjoyed the afternoon
