The Bagot Arms in East Staffordshire

The menu has changed which is good, however when coming you have to call every time to ensure they are actually serving food, as been turned away a couple of times as they were not serving food Anyway we went in May 2023, the food was fantastic as usual, all home cooked, absolutely top notch. The Bangor burger has changed and is even bigger, in fact it defeated me I could not eat it Very reasonable on the prices, overall excellent and will come back time and time again

Booked a table for lunch by phone. Arrived at 1245 and pub locker up. Stood in freezing cold until booking time of 1pm. Eventually attracted attention of gentleman in the bar who refused to come out and talk to us but shouted through window that there was no booking. Thoroughly disgusted. Won't be back.

Dropped in for a pub lunch and pint - lovely warm welcome, very well presented and great food! Would recommend a visit if you are passing.

We had our dog with us so ate in the bar at delightful table for 2 positioned in the inglenook fireplace. Bar team very welcoming and locals great company. The food was excellent. Superb sea bass fillet in wine, cream and chive sauce one night and perfectly cooked sirloin steaks the next. The Bagot Arms made our stay in Abbots Bromley.

Recently went to the Bagot arms with my family it was a mid week lunch and the food and the service was spot on. I loved the sea bass and the gammon and home cooked chips looked great. I think they even delayed shutting up and their afternoon plans to accommodate my aging in laws. Thanks for helping us have a pleasant afternoon

Me and my wife travelled 15 miles to have a meal after reading their reviews, to be told that they don't do food on a monday? i have trawled their website and nowhere does it say that they don't do food on a monday I think it is a bit amiss to leave that sort of information out. Having said that, i had a couple of pints of their Directors beer and it was one of the best i have tried, and the place is quite welcoming

Absolutely fab meal, had the the surf and Turf, steak cooked to perfection and the the scampi divine, best chips ever. Way tooooooo cheap for quality & service . Thank you x

We visited here tonight with friends who have been before and wasn't disappointed at all. The food is all home made and well worth the money, and tasted absolutely delicious. This is definitely a new place to visit again and again.

We were struggling to find somewhere for 5 of us to eat on a last minute decision and on reading the reviews, we booked in at the Bagot Arms who accommodated us in their cosy back room. We like big portions and the meals were huge!! We had a combination of lasagnes/chicken burger/steak and no room for pudding. And…..as previous reviewers have stated, the best homemade chips ever! 5 massive meals, 4 alcoholic drinks and several soft drinks for a very reasonable £72 - you will undoubtedly be seeing us again - thank you!

Me and my friend called in earlier for a sneaky pint on the way home, we were greeted by Lisa the landlady, she was hilarious and incredibly welcoming, Cannot comment on food as we didn't eat but there was a great selection of beers and ciders, we only spent an hour there but we really were made to feel welcome by Lisa and Dave and a couple of locals, I know this is a bit of a pointless review but pubs like this should be supported If they'll have us again then we will return, just wish I lived closer!!!! We popped in for a New Years Eve drink and snacks. The landlady was very attentive giving us a selection of dips and offered to make a vegetarian option. We shared 2 bowls of home cooked chunky chips (one with cheese), cheesy garlic bread, onion rings and a selection of chicken which she cooked specially for us. We all had 2 drinks each and the beer and wine were very good quality. For 5 people the bill was only £60 which is great value. We can’t wait to go back and have a main meal! Would definitely recommend!

Visited with my partner on a friday evening after being recommended this place by some friends. Staff were very friendly & attentive, we both ordered the pie which was absolutely huge & delicious. Homemade chips too which is always a bonus. Was planning to have a pudding but we were too full. Excellent food in a nice setting. We will definitely be returning.

I live in Abbots Bromley but rarely go out to all the pubs on offer! What have I missed! The food at the Bagots Arm was exquisite, great Sunday lunch, lovely staff and very reasonable! I need to get out more, especially as it is on my doorstep! Will defo go again. The interior decor is lovely too.

Absolutely amazing food, very welcoming service and a cosy country pub we stopped off here for lunch on our way to a local hotel and the food was incredible - home cooked, fresh and delicious. We had the steak and vegetarian lasagne, both of the meals were excellent and the chips were so good. Would highly recommend.

After a good walk around Blithfield Reservoir we had lunch. Lisa and Dave were the perfect hosts and served us to a really good three course lunch. We eat out regularly after our walks in and around Staffordshire and Derbyshire at various places, pubs,restaurants etc and we couldn’t fault anything we had today. Value for money for sure but ambiance, decor all spot on. Definitely going again.

My family and I just spent a lovely week in Staffordshire. We were staying near Abbotts Bromley, so like last year, we drove down to the Bagot Arms. And all I can say is fantastic. We ate there on 5 different occasions, and every time the food was great and the service was brilliant. So if you are ever in this area, look this pub up, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely place for lunch. Nice friendly staff who were very welcoming. Lunchtime menu was ideal for us, we had chicken wings, yum. Coffee was good. Nice beer garden out the back.

This pub is surrounded by scaffolding, but it is open. The food is good value, plus the chips are home cooked, not frozen. There's a friendly welcome, and the service is efficient.

In terms of £ for £ value for money the Bagot is up there! Lisa's Thursday night 'steak out' and Sunday dinner take away are just yummy. Cannot recommend the Bagot highly enough, we have eaten there regularly pre lockdown and had numerous take aways since and the quality of the food is exceptional.

I have eaten here & frequented the bar on several occasions, never can be faulted!! The food is amazing & excellent value for money, especially the Sunday lunch, incredible!! There is a warm & friendly atmosphere always & the landlord, landlady & bar manager are extremely kind! If you’ve never been it’s a must, there’s something for everyone food wise; for the best Sunday lunch this is the place & steak night is a fave too!! Keep up the fantastic work guys!!

We gave dietary requirements for our booking yesterday and how marvellous to have something differant- much appreciated the research and thought that went in to a dish and as always with real fresh veg- not a plate of carbs!

Cycling in the area stopped for a drink and sat in the beer garden. There is a large car park and we would made to feel welcome as two tired cyclists. Thanks

Having visited Abbots Bromley for several years and having never visited the Bagot Arms we decided to rectify this and went in for an evening meal. I cannot rate the pub highly enough. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was absolutely fantastic. I'm just annoyed that we didn't come in sooner. It was so good we have eaten here three consecutive evenings and ever meal was faultless.

We had a fantastic meal, the Fillet steak was beautiful and good value for money. Friendly staff. Defiantly recommend!

We were recto call in here. Went on Thursday which is steak night. It’s a bargain!!!! Quality steaks with all the trimmings. I had the fillet which was by far one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Fast prompt service.

We popped in for lunch in between doing a treasure hunt. Food was priced reasonably, £6 for a full plateful with proper chips!! Will definately be returning

We visited today as a family for Mother’s Day lunch, Dave and Lisa were the most inviting and pleasant hosts. The food was absolutely fantastic, I would definitely recommend this eating establishment. I can very honestly say that this was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had when eating out. The atmosphere was great and child friendly. The entire pub was clean to a very high standard. The staff were experienced and well mannered. The whole experience was the best Mother’s Day I have had so far. Once again thank you to Dave, Lisa and their wonderful team, keep up the good work.

A group of 10 ladies had a superb three course Christmas meal on Wednesday 19th December. The starters and desserts were perfect and the main course was exceptional. I had lean and tender roast beef. The vegetables were freshly prepared and served piping hot. The roast potatoes were spot on and the cauliflower cheese was delicious.Portions were very generous and the price was extremely reasonable. A wonderful evening.

Went to Bagot Arms in Abbots Bromley on the Thursday night steak night. Been on more than one occasion and never been disappointed. The quality of the food and service are excellent. Food is cooked to order, good choice of drinks, lovely pub with character and friendly staff.

Visiting family last night we went to the Bagot Arms and fortunately Wednesday was Steak Night. Two had steak and I had gammon from the "specials board menu" for £6, plates were full and food was excellent.

If you want to go and eat Sunday dinner that wont disappoint then try the Bagot. Always freshly cooked and cooked to perfections

Decided to try somewhere never visited before. Arrived when staff busy serving a block reserved booking. However we were still made to feel welcome and although our meal took 40 mins approx to be done, it was well worth the wait. Meal was enormous and very tasty and extremely good value considering portion size too. The actual pub is very old and has not been updated very much, but if you like that sort of atmosphere I would definitely recommend it.

A no frills, well cooked and well served Sunday Lunch which was value for money. Cheesy Leeks were a delightful. A light and airy dining area separate from the bar - minor annoyance was have a door immediately behind our table with bar users using as a short cut, and also the toilets! Maybe a screen might help that little irritation. Would recommend.

Visited on a Tuesday night. Good lively crowd in for dinner & drinks. Beautiful location in a quaint English village. Good quality food served in big portions at reasonable prices. Pleasant homely atmosphere. Didn't want to leave.

Recientemente visité para comer - 3. Casera no decirnos que grupo de 7 acabamos de llegar. Estábamos dispuestos a esperar. Mientras ellos preparaban bebidas partido lentamente - no participar como esperamos ser servido. Finalmente se sirve y la bebida de agua fría tenía un ant. La llevamos a un problema explicado. Sólo un solo gruñido y ninguna disculpa. Personal involucrado en un ruidoso bar llamada personales detrás del bar! ! Nos fuimos rápidamente sin comer, y nos fuimos a otro lado. Servicio de atención al cliente era horrible. No visitar! ! ! ! !

Nos encanta este lugar. Más grande que la vida casera y/encargado de personal. Gran multitud y ambiente y en cuanto a la comida, no comer durante una semana antes de ir porque las porciones (de muy buena calidad pero tan enorme) se cosas que hasta los topes.

Salida para un paseo el domingo. Vimos el pub - lo cual es bastante modesto, pero una vez dentro la acogida es cálida, la cerveza bien cuidado, y la comida era increíble. Una de las mejores relación calidad-Domingo almuerzos que he tenido. No podría haber hecho mejor en casa. Yo tenía una carne asada preciosa, increíble Yorkshire pudding, acompañados por verduras frescas real, una de queso y acompañamiento leek, y casa salsa y puré de mad. Guau. Volveré. Gracias a Lisa, el chef, y Dave. Un pub encantador. El bar de al lado estaba lleno, lo cual fue agradable ver en un pueblo con 4 bares.

We didn't eat here, but had a drink. The staff were extremely helpful to my friend who wasn't well and couldn't walk back to the house, so thank you! Recommended!

Food good, but unfortunately the management's attitude did not match as we as a family felt they would much rather attend to their friends

Visiting Abbots Bromley for a long weekend, we weren't expecting anything more from this place than an average village pub,...

Steak night is on Thursday Night, at the Bagot Arms so we decided to try there cuisine , We were not disappointed ! Although you can still have items off the main menu, We decided to try the Steak, we both had Fillet Steak, which came with Home cooked chips , (these were the real chips) , peas or Salad , Mushrooms and onion rings, you could have a choice off sauces at an extra cost. The meal was Superb and I can assure you that it is well worth a visit to the pub to sample its food, and the added bonus is that these are offered at a very reasonable price

Having spent the morning on a 4 1/2 mile walk around Abbots Bromley we took Sunday Lunch here.The welcome was friendly and warm,the dining room clean and bright with its own bar.The food was ,by consensus ,probably the best Sunday lunch we've ever had(and we've had a few!)The menu was short but the food was obviously home cooked,the choice was beef,lamb or turkey,The vegetables just right.My favourite was The cheesy leeks,believe it or not we literally scraped the bowls.The staff were attentive and friendly.We shall very definitely eat here again.A proper Pub with proper grub.

Seeking a traditional Sunday Lunch in a traditional looking pub we passed then returned to the Bagot Arms, Victorian in style outside we were expecting similar decor in the Dining Room.....no,it is hyper-clean with heavy quality furniture,very nice.The Sunday menu is limited but the two roasts, Beef & Lamb were exceptional,there was a short delay as the Yorkshire Pudding for Beef dish was not from a packet but freshly cooked,light and tasty as it should be. Portions, good size and thickly cut meat and served 'by mine host'.. It is unlikely that we will be passing that area again in near future but would heartily recommend the food,price and service to others.

If you are really Hungry go to this pub. Big portions are given and really tasty , no puffy food to be seen good English grub.

Looking for somewhere to eat local to where we were staying, we stumbled across the Bagot Arms in Abbots Bromley.We asked for availability on their Facebook page and they answered in minutesThe pub is easy to find in the middle of the village and has good parking. There are two bars, the restaurant / salon bar and then the traditional public bar with offerings of Sky sports on TV and also a few tables and chairs to eat from.The salon bar has table seating for about 24. There is an everyday menu selection and a daily chefs specials board offering good value for money meals.The staff seems very friendly and helpful. They offer a good range of guest ales plus lagers etc, however this is where my only really negative comment comes in, all the ales had a very off taint, leaving a nasty aftertaste of mould. I am no expert, but I think the lines had not been cleaned through properly.On the positive, the food was excellent. The plate portions were very large, anyone who eats small portions is well advised to ask for child portions.Prices very reasonable considering the amount of food.Would I return, most definitely, hoping I picked a bad night with the beersJohn

The meal was fantastic, the portion size was large and the landlady and landlord were brilliant hosts. I highly recommend their Sunday lunch - roast dinners are the best I have in a long time and being it was mothering Sunday Lisa and Dave went the extra mile and gave all the mothers a box of chocolates which was a real nice touch very much appreciated x

Thought we would try their pizzas as we had been told they were good, and omg! They were! We had the seafood and the Hawain. Both came with a portion of what I call proper chips and were delicious! The only down side was we couldn't eat it all!

We all six of us had an excellent night at The Bagots as the food was good and not over pricy, not fine dining but would recommend anytimefor a night out especially if you are a big eater as the portions where not skimpy at all

If anybody loves steak and likes good value then forget Weatherspoons go to the Bagot Arms on a Thursday Night.I went with a friend and we both fillet steak at £10.95 and its was cooked to perfection. The onions rings were crispy, peas even cooked well and home made chips were divine. The steak was lovely piece which melted in the month.A lot of places dont do steak well or its expensive but Thursday night at this place is worth a shot for any steak lovers

Passed by The Bagot Arms on a sunny Saturday evening. Ample parking and a large beer garden, quiet quiet at 7pm however nothing to complain about for us. Small menu but reasonably priced, I had the gammon which was under £9 and it was a big plate full! Two meals and two like and soda drinks for £20. Nice and simple, no complaints.

Visited today whilst passing through abbots bromley. Warm welcome well kept pint of marsdens pedigree. Between the 4 of us we had cheese and ham baguettes and two jacket potatoes 1 with chilli con carne and 1 with cheese. All the food was tasty and well presented. The salads served along side were very different from the usual wilted lettuce with watercress strawberries grapes and kiwi unusual and a nice change. Give this pub a visit

Visited for an early tea and we've been very happy with the two for a tenner choice and quality/quantity. However, this time we were seduced by the Pizza menu - OMG!They pizza is freshly made and cooked in their own pizza oven with a wide choice of hand placed toppings (I guess what I'm saying here folks is these aren't pre-packed, pre-made homogenous production line items!). 'The works' and 'a taste of the sea' is what we had and the pizzas were superb and well loaded with toppings. I manfully (ie stupidly) finished mine with all the salami/chilli's/chicken etc - but my partner gave up half way through - and then a take away box magically appeared! All this for £7.50 a pizza. So for value for money, taste, quality and speed of service - top marks.

The Thursday night Steak nights are tremendous value for money, as are the Sunday lunches, would highly recomend

We paid a visit here with friends and were made very welcome. We hadn't booked so had a wait a bit for a table for 4 but one was soon made available to us. Staff very friendly and helpful. Delicious food and we didn't feel rushed to eat it. Good food and good company - what more could you ask for?

As a local member of CAMRA ( campaign for real ale), I visited this pub today with the sole intention of having a pint of ale so that I could consider voting for this pub to be entered into the Good Beer Guide. I ordered a pint of Banks' Bitter and asked the member of staff if I could sit in the bar where I was being served and was shown a table where I could just sit and drink as it wasn't set up for diners.After only 5 mins, I was asked by a person, who I assumed to be the landlord, to move as the bar where I was sitting was only for diners and my table was needed. I then had to stand in a crowded public bar area. Needless to say, I quickly downed my pint and will not be going to this pub again. It will not be getting my vote for the good beer guide either.

We've visited this pub on a number of occassions now and have never been let down. We've had great value tasty home cooked 2 for £10 meals and gorgeous sunday roast in the dining room. The welcome is always warm, beer and wine good too. Down to earth, friendly and tasty. And the big chunky chips!A lovely location on Abbots Bromley high street. If I lived closer I'd be in every day!! Thank you Bagot Arms.
