The Old Swan in East Staffordshire

Waited over 1 hour for food watched 3/4 other tables come in and order and be served and finished their meal and leave while we were still waiting for ours. After 1 hour 15 minutes went to bar asked why taking so long, told ours is next out as it’s busy and hectic but it was fairly quiet with most people only drinking and not eating, watched 4 more orders come out while still waiting. 90 minutes+ later our food arrives around 3pm we have tea reservations elsewhere for 5:30 which we wasn’t hungry for due to late meals. When the food arrived the chicken was cold, chips were cold and wrap was crispy like it had been sitting for a hour, daughter said mash and beans were cold and refused to eat. Sauce with chicken basket smallest blob. We eat at Wetherspoons multiple times a week but will be avoiding this one due to bad experience.

Ordered 2 gourmet steaks. Very poor quality. Very chewy and mostly fat content. Increased price recently so again very disappointing.

Went for a full English breakfast, honestly it was brilliant everything cooked perfectly, should of took a picture I’ve eaten all over in cafes charging £8-14 for a full English breakfast this has been the best, asked for poached eggs instead of fried, no probs staff great, free refill coffees, two of us had 2x breakfast,coffees and orange juice £18 🥰

Went in a couple of weeks ago, beer is fine, cheap etc. it was a Saturday, every table was covered in used plates and glasses. Ordered a cheeseburger and chips. Might as well have had a rustlers burger. It was tiny. We’d been waiting a while so I think it had been left and forgotten about.. it was rock hard and cold. We moved tables twice and ended up by the door to the smoking area, where staff stood there with the door open, talking, blowing in freezing cold on us. Probably go there for drinks, but food? Never again. Worst spoons for food I’ve ever been to.

Nice little historic pub in Uttoxeter, no frills just a good boozer. Sadly some of the clientele let the place down with their aggression and loudness but apart from that a good place to grab a pint.

Great place for good beer and food, only downside is there is only ever one bar person serving. But, will revisit again soon.

Can be quite busy at times, especially on a race day (check before going) but generally quite a nice spoons. Always decent value food and the staff are always very friendly.

A better than average Wetherspoons. Friendly staff and good service. Most of the dishes are as expected. Excellent curry menu on Thursdays.

What a lovely beautiful building to visit, very different.

In the centre of the town and plenty of room inside. I visited on a weekday afternoon so it was quiet but that's not a bad thing.

Good service, food arrived hot and friendly staff. All good, an enjoyable visit.

Nice staff . They had my wheat beer here. Cheap and when my wife who had a Latte coffee went to buy another she was told refills were free. Cozy stop in Uttoxeter.

Had breakfast here today ,it was very good and hot for a change

Visited on 12th Oct. Had drinks , then decided stay for a nibble. Food came out very hot and was delicious. Initially served by Evelyn who was very polite and efficient. We saw Evelyn as she was finishing her shift , but what struck me about her was her care and empathy for the customers. As she was finishing , she made a point of speaking to an elderly gentleman who was sitting on his own. That really struck a cord as you rarely see this from the younger generation these days. Well done Uttoxeter Wetherspoons!

A good demonstration as to getting this right second time. Soup came out frozen and the salad was missing the dressing. Quickly put right but shouldn't happen in the first place.

This is one of the best kept Weatherspoons I have been in, everything spotless, breakfast was excellent freshly fried eggs

I'd just ordered my food and the fire alarm went off, I was told there would be a 15 minute wait, 25 minutes later I gave up waiting and got my money back, loads of people went elsewhere as they couldn't take any further orders due to the kitchen being full of smoke! Shame really as the atmosphere wasn't too bad.

Poor service at the bar. Only one person serving to be see, and she obviously preferred to serve local lads first and banter with them, ignoring other customers.

Brilliant spoons smack bang in the heart of Uttoxeter.

Staff friendly. Breakfast could have been hotter , beans cold , everything else not hot enough .

My husband and I went for lunch last Sunday. I can honestly say it was the worst meal out I’ve ever had. We ordered the lemon and herb chicken with mash, peas and gravy. I usually have lemon chicken and enjoy it thoroughly, this one had too much marinade, was over cooked and served upside down, so it looked very dark brown and a weird texture. It took me a while to work out it looked fractionally better turned over. The mash was dried up and only slightly warm, the peas were wrinkly(as though they had been under the pass too long and the gravy was cold and congealed. No one came to ask if our meal was ok, which usually happens in all other Wetherspoons. We were tight for time, so we ate what we could and left. It will definitely be the last time we visit that particular branch. Awful would be too kinder word to describe it. Unfortunately the battery had run out in my phone otherwise I would have taken photos.

To start had to complain about drinks station being dirty. Drinks machine empty on getting a hot chocolate it was like sludge not good. Mushroom Benedict was awful eggs would have bounced off the wall. No staff about. Very disappointed.

A regular stop off en route and you usually know what to expect it's Spoons after all not the Ivy but this was below the usual expectations. Staff had perhaps had a busy day but it was only 5pm and they weren't too enthusiastic at the bar. Half the items on the menu weren't available and neither was table service. Wouldn't rush back and probably just call at Maccies next time.

First visit to the old swan. This place followed the usual spoons form, great quality for price, order from app and friendly staff. We return when next in town.

Running reduced menu. No obvious signage when coming in except a small notice at the bar. Staff saw me and my partner struggling with the app as it was not allowing orders, ignored us. Very disappointed.

Same as any spoons, you know what your getting food is the same is everyone. have to knock the food down just due to the beans always finding them to be nasty and leave a horrible taste.

Went in after a recent refurbishment and couldn't really see much difference. Had some food and ordered the sirloin steak as it was a steak night and unfortunately it consisted of around 40% gristle, so it was very disappointing but have to add that my son had the mixed grill and it was good according to him.

Unfortunately, me and my friends had a bad experience. We normally go to a variety of wetherspoons pubs, and the service is very good, however one of the meals came with a hair in an egg, and the other came with a dead fly in the muffin. As the fly was dead, i would only assume that it was prepared and cooked with it in. I ended up getting a refund, as i was worried to orded again, as me and my friends were put off our food after experiencing all of this. Will not be coming back.

An OK Wetherspoons, a few family groups (including ours - 6 adults and a baby) enjoying lunch.

Uttoxeter.(13/07/24) The Old Swan. Ordered Two steaks with pepper sauce, for my Wife and I plus drinks. After ordering via app and making FULL PAYMENT we were informed, "no pepper sauce" OK this happens,understandable, and the alternative was some spicy whisky infused gloop or gravy. "Fine, gravy" We replied. "There is only Chicken gravy" the employee announced. "With steak, seriously?" we queried. "Sorry but its all we have" the waiter responded . Not his fault I understand, I also know that if you want a gourmet top notch meal you don't go to Wetherspoons but surely a busy eatery on a Saturday night could have been more accommodating and bought in some Bisto or powdered Pepper sauce.

You get what you see, good price beer and food. Friendly staff who served very quickly.

Bad atmosphere, stick to the other Weymouth spoons.

Just been renovated. Nice new carpets ..but same mediocre food served half cold .

Not as clean as other weatherspoons, tables grubby, no condiments offered when food arrived unlike other weatherspoons, been asked if food is okay before not here, could do better

Went here for food ordered mains and sides, the sides either came out after nearly finishing the meal or on top of the pizza never known anything like it wouldn't eat there again

When sitting at a table I expect it to be cleaned. Staff don't wipe tables don't clean up dropped food. Staff unattentive. Don't have any communication skills with customers. Only good thing I can say is the drinks are cheap. The old swan has just been refurbished but due to staff won't be long before it's a dirty place to eat again as before Refurb. Manager needs to get a grip on the staff or refurbish those too.

Worst pub ever and I've been to a few Weatherspoons. Avoid as place is filthy and food awful. Staff are a disgrace being rude and incompetent.Management need to sort this place out. Will never return and would advise you the same. Yuk!!!!

A few drinks and a spot of lunch as the races were cancelled. Had 3 small plates which were served by a very polite young man by the name of James. Great service kiddo, keep up the good work x

Hit & miss visiting here, as we do every week. 3/5 times a section of your food is cold e,g, peas, beans, soup. It can be embrassing if with friends/family. Staff change regularly but Jane is 10/10. Happysmile always.

Not normally one for a wetherspoons, though went in on work's Christmas meal etc. The one in Uttoxeter is really nice and quite affordably priced!

Went into the old swan today and asked for beans on toast…blimey forget frozen peas if you get a black eye…run into the old swan and dip your face in their beans on toast they are freezing

Regular Wetherspoons, cheap and v cheerful. excellent ale for under 3 quid, what's not to like. and free coffee, tea, hot choc refills for £1.50.

Bar staff was very nice and welcoming. Drinks good, always a nice selection. Just shame about some of the clientele...

nice spoons but very busy on race days

Eat a pizza which was excellent but I was really hungry as well so cannot be too objective. Food was quick, beer quicker. Only thing i didn't like was ordering system, either on the bar or via smartphone app. Bar was crowded so had to install yet another app on my phone..

Update from last review, The food was much better and portion size great .. Well happy with the service and place in general.. Happy to say it's now my local . BUT still thing one of the chefs / cook needs a lesson on partion size .. The other are great ..

I stopped here for a coffee. Excellent value with free refills. Toilets were a little hard to locate... Very polite and helpful staff.

Good old Wetherspoon - everywhere you go to one you know what to expect and what is delivered.

Food and service OK. The staff must have been busy because a lot of the tables hadn't been cleared. One lady went and got a cloth and cleaned her own.

Haven't been to this Wetherspoons before. It was busy but we ordered our meal via our phone. We had a nice booth to sit in and food came very quickly. Staff were friendly too. Would definitely go again.

Today was just out of this world in terms of bizarre, Sunday 15th October. Ordered food at 12pm. Waited over an hour and still nothing. So goes to bar to ask when food will arrive, wasn't sure. So back to the table, to have a server bring receipts to us, eventually found our order, with an order missing, so when we e eventually got served 2 of my guests were served, whilst I waited as the initial order had missed out a person, that being me, so was now a separate order. But still an hour on, food had arrived for my friends, so when mine arrived I ate alone, ruined the day. 1st time this has happened and seemed like there was only 1 server in the whole restaurant today, and not sure what was going on with the chef. Dirty cultelry, asked for it to be changed to get the same. Red hot chips, but with freezing cold bacon sausages and beans, oh and the egg. My friends food was below par as well. Was the manager cooking today, as never saw her once. Service today was terrible as was the food. No offer of any kind for the wait.. other people were getting ready to walk out as well. 2 hours to receive food, is just a joke. Probably won't be returning after this visit, and wasn't even that busy either.. tables were cleaned by moving empty plates, glasses from one table to another table. To walk past you'd think to yourself, I'm not eating in there. Used to be great not sure if this is a one off, but not willing to give it another go, as the wait was crazy and to receive sub standard food, was just a joke. Shame used to love it here, food done usually 15 20 mins from 1st ordering it. But to be called out on the order, and to see a missing item, when you watched the bar lady take the order. We were completely forgotten about.. Its up to you, beer is okay here. I didn't drink, had tea as had a brunch, and 2 cups of tea went stone cold and had to have a 3rd with my meal, so you're not making money, if anything your losing it. Again such a shame, as always used to be a good experience here.. But after today, I don't think we will be returning. Photos~Knew this was the food that was transferred from our table to another table just so we could eat so it had been there 2 hours plus. Not taken to the kitchen, just a complete mess. So if I'm ill in anyway, I'll know where to go to. As the utensils, just to be handed in that fashion, was unreal. Food still on knives, all of it.. was ready to use my hands. As they were cleaner than eating utensils. Sort it out, as its a shame..

Breakfast with the boys on a Sunday morning. 3/5 boys have their food and the remaining 2/5 have to wait a further 15 minutes + for theirs. Not a fan really.

Tables covered with plates of uneaten food and floor was sticky to a point you could here peoples shoes creaking staff on phone and the ap was a waste of time has when I orders drinks I got fed up of waiting and fetched them myself …I found bar empty with the drinks at the end

Friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere

Tried to order food: mixed grill - not available tried to order any curry - not available finally any pizza - nothing was available. Asked the manager why there was nothing available he didn’t know. I suggested that he should put a sign up advising people of the lack of food options. It wasn’t as if the pub was busy

The pub itself was fine. Typical Wetherspoons. Although admittedly, we went in fairly late in the evening (18:30/40ish), there was very little available on the menu. It was steak night and I wasn't expecting much on that part but there wasn't a lot of anything else. What we did have was alright but a little disappointed overall.

Food, amazing. Service, amazing. Atmosphere, nice. Most of the food was red hot or warm, NOTHING was cold. Such good food prices, especially free hot drink refills. Did not take long for the food to arrive, and was very quick to clean the table.

The worst spoons in the country! Filthy tables, glasses and used crockery left for hours, customers having to move dirty plates etc on to other tables mounting up already, absolute tip!

This is certainly one of the better Spoons. Usual great selection of beer at a reasonable price. Polite staff. Lovely building. Obviously toilets are almost in Stoke but that's to be expected if frequenting a Spoons.

Decent venue, wheelchair accessible £1.50 as much coffee and tea as you can drink. Accessible disabled toilet. The food out of the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired as its left out way too long under the lights. Please sort this out.
