Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.

Booked Sunday carvery for Father’s Day, very disappointed with the food, meat was succulent, however roast potatoes were hard, cauliflower cheese mushy, as to where was the cauliflower, stuffing balls ? had they seen the oven, choice of vegetables poor, piece of plastic found in ice cream, and I have heard no response to complaint sent via email on the Sunday, poor customer service, would not recommend

Went on Friday 22nd to see Beatles. Room was set to open at 8pm . We got in at 3 mins past 8 and room was almost full. ! The room was so cold most people had to keep costs on all Evening.... Then finally why do they use cheap flimsy plastic glasses. What's the thing about save the planet..... Never mind the expense of replacing them . Not the best experience of evening out . Won't be rushing back any time soon. .

Today we had the most excellent Sunday carvery roast lunch before our guided tour. The food was absolutely delicious, and the lady who cooked also carved the meat and served the food, so was able to tell us exactly what was in everything, helpful when one of our party was a vegetarian. The meat (beef, pork and gammon) was tender and tasty, lovely potatoes, very fresh and beautifully cooked veg and delicious onion gravy. It was all absolutely perfect. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially the person we think was the manager, and there was a lovely atmosphere between them, like a big happy family. There are carveries, and there are carveries, but this one was exceptional, and we intend to return, as we want to sample the tap bites and more of the delicious beer!

This place is living in the 18th century. I could not be more disappointed by the lack of service, quality of food, and lack of stock in the restaurant. Me and my kids had a full day planned at the centre, including lunch and dinner. The lunch was an absolute disappointment, with incredibly dry chicken, and possibly one of the most disappointing meals I have ordered. The decision was made to have dinner here also; all of the menu was near enough out of stock. The staff had no idea what was actually available, and what was. In fact, there was literally no care given in the slightest. Why would you allow someone to take a booking for your evening slot on a Saturday, when you have nothing in? Do not come to this establishment as they cannot even cook a dish on the menu. Absolute time wasters.

We booked the Sunday Carvery as on previous occasions it had been very good but on arrival, even though the restaurant was half full we were told we were to be seated upstairs. There was no one else up there. It was cold. There was no music or atmosphere and stairs had to be managed whilst holding food and drink. The Carvery Meat was good but the parsnips were rubbery, the stuffing balls had not even seen the oven, there were no peas just a tray of mixed veggies, no fresh condiments just sachets and all in all it was not worth the money. Let's hope things improve.

We arrived for evening reservation before show, no others dining at all on a Friday night. Probably should have been a clue. Room was freezing. Order taken by a member of bar staff, who was on his own with no support. Kitchen staff served a substandard meal. Then when we went to pay were told didn't qualify for preshow £5 off. Toilets were awful. Entertainment wasn't what we expected unfortunately, so an all round flop of an evening😐

I visited for the first time with a friend as we wanted some lunch at the start of the Saturday session of the Burton Ale Trail. Perhaps the food menus could have been a little more visible, but the welcoming bar staff quickly sorted out our table. The food is the unpretentious pub classics type but we were amazed by the quality with good portions. Everything was hot and tasty. We ordered sausages & mash with veg and ham, chips, egg and peas for around £9 each. Both meals were delicious. Not many central Burton pubs seem to do substantial meals, so it is near certain we will come here again.

Rang for a table as late as possible for a Sunday lunch. No problem attitude from the staff, even when we were a little late. We were made very welcome and the table service was quick and efficient. It’s usually a carvery but due to the current situation we ordered by a personal tick list. Plenty of choice and a long list of vegetables. The cauliflower cheese was delicious. We all agreed it was the BEST Sunday lunch we’d had in a long while.

WE were having a day out in Burton and had identified the museum tap room as the place to eat. When we arrived (1pm on a Friday afternoon) we found the restaurant unstaffed and presumably closed. There was a good choice of ales available, but there was only one choice in the bar menu for a vegetarian - and that was Welsh Rarebit (or just cheese on toast). We enjoyed our ales then had to go elsewhere to eat.Disappointing

Having enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable visit to the National Brewery Centre, there was only one way to finish, with a drink in the Brewery Tap. I redeemed the vouchers given to me with my admission to the NBC, and used them to get samples of three different real ales, all of them on top form. Indeed, if time had been kinder to me, I would gladly have stopped for more.

Parking was plentiful.also staff were friendly. Would not go again to the marquee shows in winter.

On Good Friday in Burton many of the restaurants and cafes were shut, but that worked in my favour as I discovered on line that the “Brewery Tap” bar and restaurant within the National Brewery Centre was open. This is a large premises with several eating areas and bars, plus an outside area which was ideal on a warm sunny day. Whilst I would have to say that the buildings could do with a refurb, the greeting and service were excellent, and my “deconstructed” chip butty followed by Prosecco flavoured cheesecake was perfect for the day.

This was a pleasant experience as I prefer places when they are quirt with no background noise or having to listen to loud conversations nearby. I eat a lunchtime meal in the food servery area away from the bar on a Saturday lunchtime in April. The meal took some time coming but it was worth the wait and clearly had not been micro-waved. The plate on which the steak & ale pie was served was EXTREMELY Hot. The only complaint I had was each item on the hot plate was in its own container or bowl, which it made it tricky to try and eat and distribute on the hot plate..At £10-95 it was a tad expensive but it was a quality meal. Bar staff were clued up too on the 6 ales on hand-pump. I would return, out of the way for some people as not near the town centre, but excellent parking facilities. The place has an outdoor eating/drinking area too. The breweriana display and dozens of old clocks were interesting to look at too.

12 of us had Sunday lunch here today for a birthday celebration. I have only eaten here once before and that was many years ago. We had a beautiful meal today with most of us opting for the Carvery. Lots of choices, nice and hot and all served by a lovely, friendly lady. One of the children in our group only eats chicken, which was not available on the carvery today. The lady serving had a few words in the kitchen and the chef came out to say he would cook a chicken breast if we didn't mind waiting for it. Once he had cooked it he personally brought it to our table - what fantastic service. The waiting staff too were all pleasant and friendly. I can't praise the food and the staff highly enough. needless to say, we will be returning. My partner has some serious food allergies and eating out is difficult, but both the lady who served us and the chef, who came out to ask about alternative options, were so helpful and kind. When our friend arrived we ordered 5 meals. By this time the bar had emptied somewhat. We waited around 30 minutes with no sign of lunch, when we asked how long it would be we were told that it was taking a long time to cook. By this time we were the only people in the bar. When the food arrived it was disappointing, my flat breads were dry, the olive oil to dip them in very poor, my son's burger was dry and over cooked, my wife had pork belly which was tough and chewy, overall a very poor show considering how long we had to wait,.

Are only other minor moan was coffee served but ran out milk and cream and had to wait 10 minutes for replacements and coffee went cold. I was really pleased to see much better choice of real ale with some dark beers, one of my previous reviews highlighted this and nice to see management did respond. Booked a table for 6 for lunch on Sat. When we arrived no tabled reserved, however, managed to find one for the 6 of us. We then waited to be handed menus, we waited even longer for our order to be taken and longer still for the food to be served. We only wanted sandwiches and coffees - we had been sitting down for an hour before the coffees arrived and the coffees were all finished by the time the sandwiches arrived. We then asked for glasses of water - the sandwiches were finished by the time the water arrived. The problem was that they were catering for a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration as well as a Wedding and instead of taking on more staff they obviously decided to make do with their usual staff, who were too busy looking after the events and left the restaurant customers till the end. We were certainly not the only table to be kept waiting for such a long time as we spoke to 2 other tables who were experiencing the same problem.

I went in and asked for the table to be wiped, which was greeted by a look of total amazement by one of the three staff who stood doing absolutely nothing behind the bar, I ordered drinks asked for some menus and sincerely hoped things would improve. I ordered food enquired about the the house wine offer and the two staff behind the bar shrugged and said they would find out? Training here needs to be done quickly as these couple of staff are probably not the greatest of assets to have in such a prominent and first welcoming area of the establishment. The starter arrived which to be absolutely fair was good, we both chose the ham hock terrine, we then unfortunately chose a couple of the Sunday roasts as we had the the dog it meant we had to go up separately, I chose beef and turkey served with what turned out to be a semi cooked Yorkshire pud, the only potato choice was roast, whilst carving my meat the carver requested more cauliflower cheese from one of the kitchen staff, this request after a visit to the kitchen was responded to with the statement it's going to be another 15 minutes as you ain't called for it! I helped myself to some parsnips that ate like they were rubber but appeared to be coated in like the coating you get on honey roasted nuts but massively over coated, some carrots with cabbage, some leeks in white wine and mustard sauce these were unfortunately semi cold like the last bit of cauliflower cheese that I took, this had a sauce that resembled cloudy dish water, absolutely no flavour what so ever. I returned to the table and my wife collected her lunch, cauliflower dishwater was unfortunately not an option for her she returned to the table and I assured her she was not missing anything special! The beef that was served to us was utterly unacceptable and completely inedible either by the manner of how it had been cooked or raised and butchered, I would not no where to begin to rectify what was served to us, a bin would be high up on the requirements, along with shutting the kitchen door that feeds out under the terrace where we were sat, after that some basic cooking lessons for the two male staff in the kitchens who discussed for our entire visit there evening out! Then some new bar staff who are trained and then finally a new Manager to drag what little talent the staff possessed out of them!Disgusting, inedible, filthy enough said.........

Enjoyed our meal, very quiet though. Shame as this really is a great place to visit, eat and drink. Fantastic beers.

25 of us descended on the brewery tap after our wedding ceremony before we moved on to a restaurant for our wedding lunch. The staff coped with this in their stride, serving a variety of drinks to our family and friends from the large selection on offer. A hugely enjoyable experience, helping to make our special day enjoyable to all concerned. A big thanks to the brewery tap and all it's staff X.

After a museum visit we were tempted by the local brews and a lush carvery. Well cooked and loads of choice in veg. Chef/cook was very friendly as we're all the staff. Loved the room. Brill.

Visited the brewery tour today as a birthday present. Tour was excellent and informative. Des the guide was excellent. As part of the package we had vouchers for a two course lunch. We ordered a sandwich and scampi and chips. From ordering to arriving at the table took 50 mins!! No explanations or apology for the delay. We weren't alone. Several others experienced similar delays. The scampi and chips were obviously frozen foods cooked and very average. The club sandwich however was very good. Sorry the service was unacceptable and poor. Couldn't recommend this place to eat if this is the norm.

Waited ages to have our order taken. Then waited nearly 20 minutes for our drinks (had to chase them up). Waited a total of 40 minutes for our food! We were going to a music event at the Brewery, luckily we had left plenty of time! It was busy, but that shouldn't have been unexpected as there was an event on. There seemed to be enough staff just not sure they were being used in the best way. That all being said, the food was very good, if a little over-priced.

Regrettably the food here seems to follow the mood of the chef on one visit it can be really good but next time really rubbish. I wouldn't recommend you complain though as it is going to be turned into being your own fault for ordering it. Not sure under these circumstances I could recommend this restaurant.

My husband called in after doing the brewery tour to see if they had a table for four people . They were really accommodating . The staff are really cheery and very helpful. We were sat in the bar and we were told if we did not mind being seated in the upstairs part of the restaurant we could have a table straight away. We had elderly parents with us they said they would manage so we accepted their offer. The waiter kindly offered to carry our drinks upstairs but we said we could manage. When we got upstairs we chose to have the carvery. A host/waitress came upstairs and asked if she could fetch the meals for the parents . If not she would help them at the carvery and would carry the meals upstairs . The lady helped my mother in law completely with serving the vegetables on her plate and taking her back to her seat. What amazing service we received. The carvery was good value and what we had was nice . We had all three meats that were on offer and you got plenty of meat . We had a Yorkshire pudding a good selection of vegetables stuffing roast potatoes and boiled potatoes and the gravy was fine.

Six of us - all vegetarians - called in to the restaurant after our tour of the brewery. The restaurant was empty so we weren't sure at first whether to even stay but so glad we did! Initially, the menu seemed to suggest that we would not find much to choose from, so requested to know if they did any veggie specials. Our very friendly waitress said she would speak to the chef and see what he could do for us. Basically he conjured up an Italian banquet which included two huge, delicious salads, sun-dried tomato pasta with mushrooms, veggie lasagna with boiled potatoes, onion rings and chips too! It was like having a meal at your favourite Italian auntie's house! The staff were so accommodating and couldn't have been more helpful. We were thoroughly full by the end of the meal and the whole treat turned out to be £13 a head. A memorable experience and one I would recommend to anyone looking for delicious food at a reasoanble price and super service to boot. Check it out!

We had lunch here after touring the Brewing museum. They had been a bit busy, and had run out of two of our choices, but the food we did order was excellent, even enjoyed by a 5 and a 3 year old. The icing on the cake was the beer at the bar, some excellent ales, and you could try them in thirds.

The Brewery Tap is the finishing point of the tour of the excellent National Brewery Centre and could therefore be argued that this is the highlight of the tour itself.A lot of the beers on offer are either brewed on the premises or at the Molson Coors (formerly Bass) brewery next door and are all on top form.Upon entering the NBC, you are issued with three vouchers which can either be redeemed for one pint or 3 1/3 pint samples of different beers. I chose the latter and planned to leave after finishing my samples but, as the weather was particularly inclement, I decided to have one more pint before facing the elements. In spite of the weather, this turned out to be quite an enjoyable afternoon.

Excellent serve & attention from the minute we arrived. I mentioned when booking that this is our early Valentine meal, we were showed to our table to find it decorated with love hearts a candle rose napkins & a bottle of cava chilling!! For staters we choose to share sticky spare ribs, chicken wings & flat breads, these arrived presented with salad & 3 dips on a wooden board. For mains I had chicken in a bacon & leek sauce wtth chips & peas, it was to die for, my hubby had steak, which came with the usual trimmings, he said it was like amber nector & cooked perfect. Service throughout was great, we weren't rushed and staff were attentive. We finished with a coffee & booked in for a return visit.

Having been to several functions (all of which were of varying quality) at the Brewery we were looking forward to this " Best of British Comedy Dining Show " The evening started badly by the bar being over crowded making it difficult to get pre start drinks, not sure why the doors to the marque cannot be opened to allow earlier entry. Unfortunately there was nothing funny in this show. 3 chaps supposedly imitating John Cleese, Manuel, Frank Spencer , Dell Boy ,the French Policeman from Allo Allo and to top it all Tommy Cooper (who from our table at the back couldn't be seen or heard) attempted to entertain by running between the tables shouting at each other as there were continuous microphone problems. Even if we could have heard what was going on the outdated attempt at humour was dreadful. At one point "Frank" was running from table to table exchanging cutlery Having complained about the entertainment, the food and service wasn't too bad , apart from the chocolate sweet which required a chisel to cut through the pastry! All this for only £34.95 per head! Wish we had Gone to The Chip Shop !

Firstly, this review is reflective only of the restaurant component of the NBC. The tour and museum are incredibly interesting and I highly recommend them to anyone. It is with greatest regret and disappointment, therefore, that I must rate this attraction with a Terrible after receiving some of the worst service I've ever experienced.A group of four of us visiting the restaurant on the 29th January. The time was 2.20pm and the lunchtime rush period was over. The restaurant upper level was empty; and the restaurant had five occupied tables out of perhaps ten or twelve. There was a young man serving at the carvery; no queue. The carvery itself was well stocked. We enquired whether or not there was a table available - and we were told to 'Wait, and I'll see if there's any food left.'We took a seat in the bar, expecting the staff member to return imminently.Thirty five minutes passed. We were consistently ignored. We were walked past several times by the same member of staff but she would not meet our eyes. We detected a very strange, strained atmosphere. Eventually, after being ignored for 35 minutes, we left through the three quarters empty restaurant, again, ignored entirely, despite PASSING the member of staff responsible for telling us to wait. We looked at the carvery on the way out, and yes, there was plenty of food. Were we, as a party of four paying customers, simply not welcome? What has happened to customer service? I enquired as to the acting Manager's name at this time and was informed that it was David Edwards.

This was the second time that we had visited the restaurant for a Christmas lunch. Last year the service was terrible but we decided to give it another go because it was close to where we all work. There was around 16 of us and apart from another table of 4 were the only people in the restaurant. The table was booked for 1230, but the starters didn't come out until about 1320, even though the orders were given in at least a week prior to this. When the mains came out some time later, some people had missing vegetables when each plate should have been the same, one colleague had lipstick on her coffee cup. The water jugs and glasses didn't look very clean. The whole meal took over 2 hours because the service was so poor, and we finally left the restaurant at 1445. Our general manager wasn't happy that we'd been out of the office so long for a meal that shouldn't have taken any longer than 90 minutes. It's such a shame as we definitely will not be booking this place again next Christmas.

As someone has already said, the car park is unlit...you can barely see the parking spaces and you find yourself walking into invisible rope barriers. The curry was almost inedible...most of people on my table left half the food on their plates. The "entertainment" was worse still, mainly substituting gross vulgarity for wit and rarely raising a laugh. A depressing and disappointing evening.

We decided to pop in last Tuesday to try Steve Wellington's Heritage beers. We weren't disappointed, the three we tried were all kept in great condition and slipped down nicely. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for whiling away a few hours with friends.

We went to one of the 'Bavarian Oktoberfest' evenings at the National Brewery Centre - they are held in a marquee just off the bar. Every aspect of the evening was so terrible, it was actually comical. I'll list the main points:- There was no Bavarian or German beer, not even locally made beer in those styles. Yes, I was surprised too.- Beer was £4.50 a pint. I'll remind you that they have their own brewery onsite.- There were no, I mean none whatsoever, decorations; the huge empty marquee just had three rows of trestle tables with cruise ship chairs and bright lighting.- The 'hot themed supper' was an awful little hot dog, a few sweet potato chips and some sauerkraut of a type I've never before encountered.- The brass band went straight in for the awkward hand-holding audience participation and singing before we'd made it halfway through our first pint; the jolliness continued unabated for most of the evening.Needless to say we left early and enjoyed a nice pils elsewhere...

Very poor meal, Ham salad looked like someone put a bag of lettuce from the supermarket and a bit of very cheap ham. Bread roll inedible. When I mentioned to server, got a blank look and “do you want another roll” No I wanted a decent ham salad. Clearly no qualified chef or staff with any responsibility. Don’t bother eating here. Waste of money.

We visited Willows (previously Tutbury Tearooms) for lunch. There was a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks on the menu, although there didn’t seem to be a children’s menu. The cafe was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was nice, but very expensive. £9.75 for a jacket potato with cheese (plus £1.50 for each additional topping) is far too much!!! My son had two potato waffles with grated cheese and baked beans, which cost £9.99!!! We left feeling negative due to this and are unlikely to return.

Absolutely cracking pint of Pedigree. They're dog friendly. Not tried the food but looks very nice. Thursday night is quiz night. Overall out of 5 I'd would have given it a 6 . Will be going again. Need to try the food !

Don’t bother. Booked a room for a business colleague so he was in the town centre. The place let me down and left me looking stupid. He told me his room was cold and not particularly clean and the shower had a constant drip which made it hard to fall to sleep. He also said there was no hot breakfast available in the morning. Such a shame.
