We visited Willows (previously Tutbury Tearooms) for lunch. There was a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks on the menu, although there didn’t seem to be a children’s menu. The cafe was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was nice, but very expensive. £9.75 for a jacket potato with cheese (plus £1.50 for each additional topping) is far too much!!! My son had two potato waffles with grated cheese and baked beans, which cost £9.99!!! We left feeling negative due to this and are unlikely to return.

Arrived at 11.25am went to till to order 2 breakfast etc to be told by one of three staff standing around ‘we only do breakfast till 11.30’ I know you employ young cheap staff - however it’s a false economy if they are literally costing you money. Very rude staff he didn’t even look at the clock, no apology no ‘I’ll go check’. There was an event in the high street and it was rammed and this place was empty! Luckily we found a bakery further down the road (where the crowd was). Cakes there were delicious I’d recommend you pop there!

Visited 15.07.23 for tea/coffee and cake and we were very impressed. The teas was served properly (loose leaf in a pot) so there was enough for a few cups. The homemade carrot cake was lovely and light and a good portion size, the ice cream was very creamy and again, a fair portion size. We had coffee, tea, cake and ice cream and the whole lot came to just over £12, so really good prices. I have no idea why people on tripadvisor think this place is expensive, it's far more reasonable than many local places. The tea rooms is pretty and has a few different areas to choose from - We seated ourselves (again, no idea why others have complained about seating areas, you sit where you want). The staff were polite and friendly. We really enjoyed the visit and will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Just had a hot drink, looked at the prices on the menu and decided to not buy any food - very pricey in our opinion. It's not exactly the Ritz so not exactly expecting to pay Ritzy prices. I feel there are much nicer and more reasonable tearooms in Tutbury.

Called in after a walk around Tutbury, was greeted by 2 staff members who wanted to seat us at the far end of the cafe, away from all other customers and adjacent to the tea room toilets. I’m unsure if this was because we had our sleeping 7 month old granddaughter with us in a pushchair, may of been on health + safety grounds to keep the pushchair safely out of the way but this wasn’t explained to us. I asked to be seated elsewhere as I didn’t want to sit next to a toilet but was told by one of the staff members that that was the only seating available, even though the whole of the rear end of the tea room was empty. After a rethink by the staff we were offered a different table, was given a colouring book and crayons (for a 7 month old) and had a highchair placed at our table just in case she woke up. She didn’t wake up and the highchair was placed in a completely inaccessible place at the table even if she had of done. The food served to us was ok but expensive and I felt that I had to give a tip as the person on the till asked me to read a notification prior to paying on the card machine. It asked for a 10/20/30 % donation, the service was fine however the welcome we initially received wasn’t. All in all a bizarre experience and we left with the impression that they aren’t inclusive of customers with babies/children/pushchairs. Easily solved, we won’t visit again and won’t recommend.

A "Ploughmans lunch" at 8.95 was in fact a deconstructed cheese and ham baguette, featuring a tablespoon of grated cheese, three pieces of thin ham, the tiniest pot of chutney I have ever seen that had it been any smaller would be classed as a thimble and three tiny silverskin pickled onions. Would have been fairly priced at less than a fiver. My wife had a toastie that was ok but again at 8.95 was about 50% too expensive. Certainly wont be going again. Coffee was good though.

Stepped into the tearoom and Shown to a table. Would’ve preferred to be given a choice of where to sit as the room was empty. The coffee and sandwiches we ordered were fine, no complaints there. The decor is very English tearoom and we’ll presented/clean. The other side ‘garden room’ is rather naff looking and could do with a revamp. The paper cloth on our table had tea stains/cup rings on it - horrible. A proper cloth or none at all would look better. The girl serving was straight on everyone who walked in… walk round this way, don’t touch the cakes (although they were wrapped), told a family they couldn’t put 2 tables together to seat them all… It did not make for a pleasant, relaxing environment to be in as we felt uncomfortable and couldn’t wait to leave. I can see the tearoom has been on it during the pandemic but needs to loosen up a bit now and really think how they present to customers walking in. We may try again in the future but for now will go elsewhere.

We called in for lunch. The food, surroundings and service was excellent. The food and drink menu suited our requirements well. The food was well very nicely prepared and presented and arrived in good time. The staff were very friendly without being over attentive. The surroundings were tasteful and quaint, perfect for a tea room. My tea was made with real tea leaves in a tea pot with tea strainer and served in a lovely porcelain tea cup.

Drove from Nottingham to Tubury to go to this cafe because the food is good. Arrived at 2.45 pm to be told that due to lack of staff they were closing early? They close at 4pm? There were three staff and three of us and no other customers and no sign that the place was shutting up.? Such a shame as we really like this place but even when we told them we had driven from Notts to give them our custom they would not relent. Not good in times of won't.

I have been using this cafe for sometime but their new pricing is ridiculous , firstly with cakes the price you see is not the price its the take away price , Sorry this is a cafe where you sit down , so if like me you see a nice cake priced at £3.00 you need to add 90p for it to be brought to the table . So today a cake and a coffee was over £7 , this is clearly a cafe that does not want to stay in business long. Great shame as it is a nice cafe

My friend and I visited the tearooms for a coffee and slice of cake. On sitting down at the table we noticed the table was sticky, there was a musty smell in the tearoom and there were dead flies in the window in between mini picnic tables with small dolls house China cups on. Eventually we had our order taken by a young girl who didn't know what a cafetiere of coffee was. The coffee tasted like the cheapest blend you could buy in the supermarket, it was truly awful. We were very disappointed with the quality of the cakes, they were clearly several days old as they were not moist at all and crumbled to oblivion on the plate. My friend had a chocolate brownie and could have done with a hacksaw to cut it! Needless to say, we didn't finish our cakes or coffee's, paid and left. We would have complained at the time but the staff all vanished into the back and the rest of the cakes on display looked just as old and dry. This experience has totally put us off from returning to this tea room.

Called today for a coffee, sat outside no one came so went to order, waited outside while staff stood talking eventually a nice young lad took my order, when it came it was like warm milk hardly the latte I ordered he asked if I could pay now as I was outside, no problem, he asked for £3.60, I quiered this as it said £3 on the list in the window, £3 for takeaway or outside seating, the girl who came rushing out talking over me to other staff member said that was old and it's now £3.60 to which I said it shouldn't be in the window advertising £3 so suggesting she take it down, I paid the £3.60 for the warm milk (supposedly latte) I will not return to the OVER PRICED CAFE, with the RUDE staff member ( not the young man) apparently there's a really good cafe round the corner which I will be using from now on.......

We arrived, took a look at the menu and made a swift exit! At average for me and my 3 friends to have a baked potato each and one drink (non alcoholic) ,it would have been over £40!I have absolutely no problem paying for good food, and not doubt it would have been tasty enough, but that’s very expensive for a light snack in a cafe.I understand overheads and wages ect but that really is quite OTT,if I were you,I’d have a rethink and some may agree, that is a rip off!!!

After noticing the tea rooms on a lovely bank holiday Monday decided we would stop for a couple of coffees. We were shown to a table by a member of staff where the previous customers had just left and subsequently told by the young member of staff that someone would come along and clear the table and take our order. Some 15 minutes later still sitting at the dirty table waiting to place our order. Subsequently 3-4 minutes later before I started to eat the leftover sandwich on the table we decided to leave. Heavens know what happened to the poor bloke who ordered the takeaway coffee he was still there when we left.

Food and drinks were nice and the staff were friendly however we were very disappointed regarding their Corona virus safety measures. They provided hand gel and had a one way system in place. The staff were wearing visors however they weren’t pulled down over their faces and we’re not keeping their distance so when taking our orders and serving food etc, we felt quite uncomfortable. Also saw a member of staff wiping their face with their hand shortly before serving cakes and also putting their fingers inside glasses and cups when making drinks. The table was covered in crumbs suggesting I it had not been wiped between customers. It was a shame as it would have been lovely otherwise.

This is quite a traditional looking tea room, but offers so much more. Yes they have an eclectic mix of vintage looking bone china cups and saucers (Royal Albert, Old Country Roses style) and staff in black and white uniforms but the service and food quality is to a high modern standard and good value. We generally visit around mid morning and in addition to the available hot food selection, (I recommend the sausage and egg rolls or toasted tea cakes), there is a wide selection of fresh cakes available. If we''re lucky we get a seat in the window and can watch the world go by.

Passed through Tutbury and stopped here by chance for a quick lunch. Quirky vintage interior. Food was really bad unfortunately and price far from reflective. Baguette seemed to be microwaved and thus very tough. Soup completely tasteless and served with a terribly cheap roll. Plenty of tea in the pot for a refill. The staff were friendly and efficient. Had a couple of coffee and a snack. Coffee slopped into the saucers and tea cake burnt but, no worse or better than I would expect. The bad thing about this place is that as it was a pleasant sunny day we thought to sit outside at one of the 6 tables. All were littered with the remains of earlier meals and in the 20 minutes we were there no one made any effort to clean them. This was despite there appearing to be 6 people working there and only 2 customers. As we left, an old man struggling on a walking stick, was endeavouring to clear enough space to sit on an outside table. Not good. Shall not re-visit.

The chicken soup was that weak that you could see the bottom of the bowl. There were a few fragments of chicken but no flavour, the Stilton and broccoli soup but couldn't taste any Stilton it in, and you only got a half a bap of bread to go with it. The cappuccino was also thin and without taste. Expensive price, cheap meal. I have put this on for her, as she doesn't have a profile.

I recently went for lunch at the tea room by myself. After ordering the food I could hear the lady who served me moaning and talking about me in the back with her colleagues. She was moaning due to the fact I had not sat down to order my food and ordered from a takeaway menu and also because I didn't order a drink. It seems that a colleague told her I was sat near the door and could hear her so she quickly shut up and was trying to act pleasant afterwards. I am absolutely horrified and quite frankly disgusted at the behaviour seen and the lack of customer service. Tutbury tea room should evaluate their staff or at least teach them some manors!!

The atmosphere of the venue was excellent, the staff I encountered were friendly and enthusiastic and the many other customers were clearly enjoying their meals. Unusually, these tea rooms are not listed on the Tutbury pages on TripAdvisor, but only on the Burton upon Trent pages. This means that anyone planning a visit to Tutbury, and looking on the Tutbury pages, will not see it listed; the owners should investigate having its entry moved to the Tutbury pages.

Quite an attractive and traditional looking tearoom with a fair amount of room for customers. The lady who served us was pleasant and helpful and made us feel welcome. We placed our order which consisted of one pot of tea for two, a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich and a normal cheese sandwich. Both where served on granary bread with a fresh but very small side salad. The tea was very basic and a little on the weak side and the sandwiches were nice but nothing special. After we had finished we decided to order a slice of cake each- one coffee and walnut and the other a Victoria sponge. The slices weren't very big and as the cakes had been baked in square tins rather than round ones it was more of a loaf style slice. Both cakes were rather dry and tasted bland. Definitely not worth the £3+ per slice. Overall it was a very simple and average lunch that certainly wasn't worth £19.05. Your prices need reviewing and/or the overall standard of food and drink that you are serving needs to match the amounts you are charging. We won't be returning.

We paid this tearoom a visit on a busy Saturday during Viking weekend at Tutbury Castle, we were served by the owner who was very attentive and helpful. We had our drinks and I had earl Grey, it was gorgeous, I asked the owner what make it was,it was jenier (I now order this tea direct from jenier) we had a bit of a wait, but they were very busy and the owner apologised for the wait as did the cook, who was his wife. The pie my husband had was lovley, I had the homemade quiche and salad,it was very nice although it wasn't much of a salad for the price, it was more like a garnish, otger than that, everything was very good and we really enjoyed our lunch.

A group of us met at the tea rooms. We had a wonderful warm welcome. The homemade soup was freshly made and lovely served with a cheese scone. Yum yum we found the staff to be very helpful some of us had travelled along way and didn't know the area so they told us about the local area. We finished our meeting with a wonderful piece of red velvet cake and a coffee. I would recommend a visit if passing or even if you want a get together with friends.

Lovely little Tea room, which we visited on the 2nd April 2015. Food was good, but cappuccino was sloppy. However, what disturbed me the most, was 2 members of staff, who seemed to take pleasure in being nasty about another member of staff. Not just to themselves, but also discussing same with a customer!!!! The poor lady in question, I believe, normally worked in the flower shop next door, and was only helping out in the café. We are actually looking to move to that area, but these 2 women has put me off a bit!!!!! As an experienced ex manager of a coffee shop, this would be a lovely place to work, should the staff be trained to act in a professional manner, not just towards the customer, but their fellow colleagues. The lady from the flower shop who served us, was very polite and friendly.

We visited these tea rooms once before on a wet Sunday afternoon when we had soup & a drink which was very nice, so as we were going away this weekend we decided to make a detour so we could have breakfast. We went in & sat down and when the waitress came & asked us what we would like, I ordered a breakfast but I asked if I could swap the egg & tomato for extra mushrooms which she said was fine so no problem there. Then my husband ordered & again asked if he could swap two items for extra mushrooms, again not a problem so off she went with the order & we just sat & waited for our breakfast to arrive when suddenly this woman appears from nowhere only to say, I just want to make it quite clear that extra mushrooms will be an additional cost, well we were gobsmacked to say the least so I explained that we were not having two of the items on the menu so what was the problem she then said that she had to unwrap the mushrooms but the tomatoes were already open, I can only assume this silly woman was the owner so with that we left the premises in disgust. How mean can some one be and also stupid to lose two paying customers for the sake of a few mushrooms. We went to the Castle Café in the end it may not have been as up market as the tea room but it was by friendlier & the food wasn't too bad either & we had that many mushrooms we actually left some, so will we be returning to the tea room I don't think so, nor would I recommend it. When I pay for some thing I don't expect a rude obnoxious woman to appear to spoil it, also it doesn't matter if she reply's to this feedback as no excuse is going to make up for the fact she spoilt the breakfast we never had!! We were looking for a place to have lunch and checked reviews for the Tutbury Tea Room on TripAdvisor and saw it got bad reviews. We went anyway and were actually surprised on how dirty the place was. First impression when we walked in was the Henry hoover in the middle of the restaurant and flies everywhere. In every corner of the restaurant, including the toilets, were covered in cobwebs with spiders. The food was good but dirty dining room was a major turnoff.

Visited with a group of about 16. This was the second time I have been here. The first time was a lovely sunny day and I ate scrambled eggs and salmon in the court yard at the back which was lovely. Today- the food was nice and the first cup of tea was nice too. But the lady said " let me know when you need more water in the tea pot" I didn't think anything of it. But that was exactly what she meant. When the tea pot came back they had reused the tea bags and it was impossible to get another tea from it. It was so weak. We ordered another thinking it would be a one off- but the next one was even weaker. We were disappointed to say the least- as we paid £20 per person and felt like a new tea bag or two wouldn't have cost much. We didn't say anything though as we felt like we were being a pain and assumed we weren't allowed new tea bags. I hate giving average or below reviews- but that's exactly how I felt when I left. Can't fault the cream scones though. Sandwiches were ok too- Cut into rectangular finger sandwiches. And the cakes were all yummy.

Very poor meal, Ham salad looked like someone put a bag of lettuce from the supermarket and a bit of very cheap ham. Bread roll inedible. When I mentioned to server, got a blank look and “do you want another roll” No I wanted a decent ham salad. Clearly no qualified chef or staff with any responsibility. Don’t bother eating here. Waste of money.

Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.
