Very close to Alton Towers, beautiful building with lots of character. Well decorated and kept very clean. Friendly staff who were accommodating to our late check in time, and didn't rush us out early either! Will definitely be back.

This was a great stop between Alton Towers and heading off to the Peak District. The hotel was easy to find and great for getting into the centre. The rooms are an older style and had comfortable beds and a nice ensuite bathroom. The person running the hotel was absolutely lovely and we went and got a takeaway, which she was happy for us to eat in the bar area (we had Chinese after a stop at the Micropub) and even warmed our plates. There were hourly bells from the church, which we could hear in the room we were in.

We came for my partners birthday and the staff were incredibly helpful from the off, checked us in and booked us a taxi ready for the morning. In the morning we had breakfast which was quick and tasty. We had a drink before we went out on our second evening and had a nice chat with a few of the locals. All in all great experience, clean and tidy, nice out door area and the staff especially Mary were fantastic. I would highly recommend stay here, perfect for a nice weekend away.

We had 'Sparkling Afternoon Tea' and really enjoyed it. The staff were superb = very friendly/welcoming & very chatty + knowledgeable. The coffee was very nice, freshly made and refreshed if/when requested. There were plenty of sandwiches and lots of cake & cream. Our glasses of 'Fizz' were tasty & bubbly. There is free on-site parking for about 10 cars to the rear of the hotel.

The over all appearance was run down. Rooms were dusty and had black mildew over window and Bathroom ceiling. Bed was old / cheap and not confortable. Definately not worth the £99 per night price tag Would suit guys working away during the week if the price was about £35 per person. Staff were freindly. Would not go again or recommend

Had a really warm welcome, Sunday lunch was absolutely fantastic, starters of pate, mains of beef and turkey delicious and vegetables perfectly cooked. Other half is picky but no problem, a grilled chicken breast was offered and was perfect. Deserts are a treat if you can find space!!! A gem of a place and will make this a regular visit.

Me and my friends have been comng here every year for the past 10years and the Bank house never fails to disappoint. They cater for all ages in the most authentic way and are the most accomadating hosts. This year they even laid on a live dg set which had everyone up dancing including my grampa joe. If it all gets a bit to much then swing by to the bistro and relax for a while which by 10pm me and grampa joe did exactly that Lovely stuff 👌

The service we received was of a very high standard as the chef and staff were very to make the whole experience one of a high standard. The menu was quite large and we found the food to be of a high standard. I chose the steak and am able ton state that it was as good as any I have had for a long time. My partner also spoke vey highly of her meal. Having had a starter and a main we were unable to sample the sweet as we had both eaten about as much as we could .I have to add that we were very impressed with the staff and cannot fault the whole experience. We certainly intend to visit them again quite shortly.

Visited for afternoon tea- we had to cancel and rebook because of COVID isolation for one of our party and the staff were accommodating about this. On arrival there was a bit of a mix up in regard to the time that we’d booked for- so our table was not ready. However the staff were so friendly and sorted our table out right away. We were the only ones in the dining room so the atmosphere could have been better- but on reflection it was mid-week so you can’t expect it to be busy! The staff were so lovely though and were very attentive. The sandwiches and scones were basic (but nice enough) but the cakes were delicious (and let’s face it- those are the best part of afternoon tea!!). We couldn’t believe the price when it came time to pay- such could value; they could easily charge more. Yes, the building does need some work and the decor could perhaps be freshened up- but it’s an old building so you can’t expect it to be without its problems. If you want a posh afternoon tea then perhaps try somewhere else, but come here for delicious cakes, amazing value and incredibly friendly staff!!!

Have eaten here several times and the restaurant is to be recommended. Roland is an amazing chef, his food is excellent. Menu is quite classic, not extensive but always nice. My mum said her steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right, the sausage and mash was wonderful and the burger I tried had amazing chips. Can't wait to try their afternoon tea. The bar is separate and has plenty room to relax over coffee. Very friendly and welcoming.

This place is simply the best place to stay in town for the races or even Alton towers. Lots of rooms clean and spacious, very friendly staff that make you really feel welcome. Good bar and food is lovely as well. Free carpark and good rates for the rooms. We normally stay in a group of around 15+ and have never had any problems with this place 5 mins from the train station and also the race course and 15 min drive to Alton towers. We've been coming here now for 5 years in a row. We tried over places first but none are up to the standard or friendliness of the bank house. Less than a minute walk into the town for the pubs really do strongly recommend this place.

Tried this place for the first time on Saturday. Our meal was excellent. We had steak and gammon for mains, both of us were impressed. The crumble was fresh out of the oven, one of the best I have had and went really well with the custard and ice cream. The restaurant was quiet as we ate early, but it still had a lovely atmosphere. The bar was busier and people are free to eat in either the bar or restaurant. Even had a really nice relaxing sofa to end the pleasant evening. Definitely will visit more often.

We stayed as a stop off on route back home from a trip to Alton Towers, the hotel is only 15/20 minute drive from the park. It is very dated, and decor could do with freshening up however the purpose of our visit was a bed for the night. We stayed in room 1 , it was a large room with en suite very clean and tidy. The only downside is as it’s an old building the walls are thin, and so you can hear what’s going on but we were so tired it didn’t bother us that much.We didn’t use the bar / restaurant so cannot comment It’s in a nice small town with a few shops, bars and restaurant nearby

Great quirky hotel, friendly staff and freshly cooked food by Rowland but..... what completely spoilt our stay and made us suffer from sleep deprivation was the noise of the church bells every quarter and tolling the hour, every hour throughout the night! We were booked for two nights but had to check out and find another hotel as no sleep for two nights would have been far too much to bare. Such a shame! Why can’t the bells stop from 11pm until 6am? The clanging racket is like Chinese torture when you are trying to sleep! Be aware!

We visited The Bank House Hotel on Saturday as part of a Groupon offer. The building has some lovely features. We arrived a little earlier than booked however we were shown to our table. We both had pate & chutney for starter which was very nice and mains were salmon with a hollandaise sauce and liver and onions. The food was plentiful so we could not manage a dessert. Thank you to Roland.

My wife and I dropped in for a drink as we live not far away and have never been in. From the outside place looked good and the entrance hall has some great original features. Bar area was clean but showed areas of wear and tear which with a little attention could have been repaired. We ordered a glass of Pinot and a glass of Merlot. Some fuss over payment as though I wanted to cash, I was asked to pay by card. We took our drinks to a table where sat comfortably and took a sip. We looked at each other as we discovered both wines were very unpalatable. We put them both on the bat and mentioned this to the lady serving. (who incidentally was wearing safety glasses) who offered us a replacement which we declined.

We stayed here on a Friday night after attending a race meet. It's conveniently placed near all the pubs and restuarants and it's a 15 minute walk to the course. Our room was on the top floor opposite the church and it was clean and comfortable. We arrived early but were very lucky to get on the car-park (at the rear) as there was just about room for one car. I don't know what would have happened if it had been full ? We cannot comment on the breakfast as we declined to pay the extra £9 out of personal choice.

Stayed at the Babk house hotel to visit uttoxeter racecourse for a music night. It was only a 10-15 minute walk to the racecourse and right next to the town centre. It's an old building with uneven floors and steep stairs ( no lift). The hotel is next door to the church and a clock that chimes every 15 minutes throughout the night. Some people may appreciate this but we didn't. We didn't use the bar or sample the breakfast so can't comment on these facilities.

Don’t bother. Booked a room for a business colleague so he was in the town centre. The place let me down and left me looking stupid. He told me his room was cold and not particularly clean and the shower had a constant drip which made it hard to fall to sleep. He also said there was no hot breakfast available in the morning. Such a shame.

Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.
