Great beer garden, friendly landlord with helpful staff and large car park and dog friendly

Great atmosphere, super welcoming and homely. A fantastic beer garden with a constant symphony of birds calls. Great food at a great price. Amble car parking - so overall no excuses not to come!

We went Sunday meal was clap cold my hubby had a sirloin steak his was cold I had Sunday lunch cold so won't be going again

First time here and last real shame as the place is in a nice area. I ordered a drink and the glass wasn't clean it had lipstick on it and when I went to tell the lady she looked lost as what do you want me to do kinda look. The other lady stepped in and changed the glass and gave me another drink, and apologised. The food was a shame too, I ordered a mac N cheese which I was looking forward too, it was like warm as if it was placed in the microwave for a few minutes. The kids food wasnt the best the corn on the cob was cold as if it had come out the fridge it didn't come with butter like it said on the menu. The fish fingers were nice and hot with the chips. But wouldn't return or recommend!!

We decided to go for an evening meal tonight and picked the Horseshoe due not being for a while. Atmosphere was good, plenty of people in ready for their quiz night. Took advantage of the steak offer however, we didn’t get the steaks cooked to how we had requested. Mixed grill was served with an undercooked egg, which was quickly resolved by the manager Ian. Puddings were served 1 at a time 5 minutes apart which wasn’t good. The poor lad behind the bar was running around on his own with so much to do. Really needed more staff on to do the different duties required. Really disappointed with our visit tonight and won’t be in a rush to return but hope next time will be a better experience 👍🏼 Credit to the young man serving, he was all on his own and deserves more help and credit!

The place is absolutely stunning, a complete all round package. The building is beautiful, the staff were amazing and so friendly, and the food was divine and really reasonably priced. I had never visited before today, but I will most definitely be back again.

Eaten here a few times over the years during its various ownership. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a traditional country pub feel inside. Food is ok, typical pub grub. This pub is great for a summertime beer in the garden.

Adam and Lily really were a delight to have servicing our evening meal. The steak was done exactly how we ordered them, medium rare! The dripping sauce was delicious, beautiful chips, onion rings, peas , tomato and peas. A gastronomic explosion on taste buds. This was followed by by Sticky toffee pudding, one with custard, one with ice cream. It was so nice to get a warm, sincere, friendly reception when we arrived. Full marks to them both. We will return. 👌🏻✨😁

Had a voucher through the post. Visited on a Saturday lunch. Fairly friendly welcome and obliging. Fish and chips was good, Mixed grill very average. Poor quality piece of steak that was cooked badly. Raw mushrooms. Luke warm chips. Not the best to be honest. Nice pub let down by this poor meal. Then we found out afterwards that they had charged us more for the food than was shown on the menu. That's a shame.

We've not been in a while and were pleased to see how much the food has improved. The rump steak was tender and tasty and the chips were cooked great ( crispy outside, fluffy inside) well done to the chef.

I haven’t written a review for some time, however felt compelled to following our recent (ish) visit. Our table of 9 (3 families) turned up for a late lunch without a reservation one Saturday. Right from the outset, the communication was brilliant. We were advised there may be a wait for food as there was a table of 15 in. We were then updated it would be sooner as the chef had managed to get out the table of 15 in good time. In the meantime, the drinks, snacks and entertainment flowed. Ian had some great stories to share and both him and Alan had some tricks up their sleeve!!! Empty plates all round (apart from mine, as I have a smaller plate these days). I can honestly say I’ve never been to a friendlier, more welcoming pub. Everyone we came into contact with were lovely. We were actually all quite sad to leave…thank you to all who made our experience one to remember! This was always our Dad’s favourite place to eat and it brought back some fond memories. We will be back!

The pub is in a lovely village. Food was very good, staff very friendly and pleasant, my only complaint was the cleanliness especially the toilets.

Went over for our wedding anniversary with our son and had a fantastic meal,staff were excellent food was very very good.will certainly be going back when we get the chance.

The Landlord was very friendly, sociable and nothing was too much trouble. He went out of his way to ask about and accommodate any preferences.....superb customer care. The food was good, hot and well presented. The Marston's Pedigree was good and the drivers well accommodated with various hot drinks.. The place was nice and warm even on a cold day....excellent ambiance. I would recommend without a doubt and will return again.

Absolutely cracking pint of Pedigree. They're dog friendly. Not tried the food but looks very nice. Thursday night is quiz night. Overall out of 5 I'd would have given it a 6 . Will be going again. Need to try the food !

Very friendly staff, lovely cosy pub with multiple rooms for a more homely feel. The food was excellent and the portion size just right. My elderly parents love the pub and its location is convenient. Plenty of parking as well. There are a number of steps so people with mobility issues might struggle. The only contention was the cauliflower, cook it a bit longer!! Other than that, brilliant.

We love dining at the horseshoe. It's a lovely atmosphere. The owner and his family are brilliant and are always so friendly and happy to help. The food is always so delicious. Very budget friendly.

We had such a lovely evening here - we are currently staying locally and wanted to check out some nice country pubs, the horse shoe did not disappoint! A quirky old country pub feel, dog friendly which was really important for us, and polite staff where nothing is too much trouble. We thought tried a couple of bites off the menu, which were delicious - fish and chips and steaks cooked to perfection - you couldn't go wrong! The owner of the pub was great - very accommodating for us and made us feel so welcome. Thank you Ian and the team, we will be returning!

Friendly staff, good service excellent pub menu, luv the Mac & Cheese. Enjoyed the Help for Heroes charity race night The quiz nights are not to be missed as the Landlord is just the sharpest quiz master ever. A lovely pub for family get togethers.

The food was excellent, cooked to perfection. Very friendly staff, owner took his time to come and chat with us and tell us all about the entertainment they do on certain days which was a lovely thing to do, they even brought their puppy Prince to our table to introduce him to us. Overall we were very impressed with everything and will definitely be back again. Thank you

Was really happy to discover the horse shoe inn was just a little further down the road from where I was staying. The pub is an authentic English pub, cosy, lovely interior, atmospheric- exactly what I look for in an establishment (somewhere you can sit with a few bottles of wine and lose track of time). The staff were all super friendly! Their dog prince was even friendlier (cutest puppy ever)! Stayed for dinner, the fish was delicious, also shared a steak which was equally good. Nice traditional pub classics done well! It's fair to say we will definitely we popping back in over the few weeks we are in town! Thank you for the lovely evening horse shoe in!

Great meal, good value and welcoming smile.

Service was slow as only one person working the bar and also serving food. No cutlery on the tables (had to go and collect my own), no serviettes available either. Table was sticky. Kitchen could be heard continually hitting bell for waiting staff to deliver food, in the end the chef brought out the food himself. Ordered a “mega mixed grill” but was told 10 minutes later I couldn’t have it due to insufficient ingredients, so was given a regular mixed grill instead. The starters of chicken strips and breaded mushrooms were ok but had obviously spent too long in the fryer. Main courses (mixed grill & hunters chicken) arrived, the salad with the chicken looked manky and unappetising, the egg was over cooked, the tiniest piece of gammon was mostly fat & the steak was gristle and super chewy with the mixed grill. When paying for the meal, the serving staff had to be reminded that a mega mixed grill was not had, as they had not adjusted the bill. Overall, we left feeling disappointed with our experience and both agreed we wouldn’t eat there again.

Nice pub, good pint, friendly landlord. The Sunday Lunches looked really good as well. Would have awarded five stars but it needs a good clean generally including the garden area. We will return and then hopefully it will be the full five stars 🙏🤞

Nice, quiet and friendly place in the middle of a beautiful natural spot in Tatenhill. It's not our first time there and we'll be back for sure. 100% recommend.

Went here for my 50th with a party of 15. Amazing venue, great staff who were very welcoming and helpful. Food and drinks were superb with some amazing deserts!! Our bi annual trip to this lovely country pub when we are back in the UK. We were recommended the fish and chips by the very chatty Alan. He was right that the batter on the fish was light and very tasty. The fish and the chips were also good!! Nice pub and friendly staff. See you again when we are back.

This is one of the worst places I've ever been. Food has landed on our table 90 minutes from ordering (after reminding the staff). We were not made aware prior, that for whatever reason the waiting time is so ridiculous, otherwise we would gone away. However, they've told us, they are short staffed, when we asked about our food. Well, firstly that's not our problem and secondly you should make the guest aware of waiting time. Me and my partner both ordered a burger, both plates were below average. If I would like to have frozen fries with a bit of burn from fryer, which has not been cleaned for ages, I am pretty sure I would be able to make this myself at home. Garden is dirty, with not necessary bits around, grass it cut around the tables, they were not bothered to move tables. We won't be coming back and I would suggest you to avoid this place.

Very impressed with this pub! Great live music tonight, very welcoming landlord and lovely atmosphere! Different rooms to choose from, lots of parking spaces and everyone was so friendly. Definitely will go back again as the food was special. Couldn’t fault it.

Great pub for quiet drink and simple comfort food. The staff and locals are all super friendly, service is great and its dog and muddy boot friendly. Often a good mix of locals and new faces, not like many nice pubs where everybody turns and stares if a stranger walks in.

Called in at The Horseshoe for a completely unplanned meal. We were not disappointed....generous servings, well cooked and great staff! Not only good food but now regular music nights too!!! Well done Ian and staff for all your efforts in making sure that everyone is looked after so well.....special thanks to Molly, Jess and Sean!!

Great night at The Horseshoe. Pub atmosphere superb with ABBA tribute band rocking the audience. Bar staff friendly and efficient.

Went for a meal on 3rd Feb using my 30% discount and it was all delicious! My partner had the chicken tikka curry and I don't usually eat curry but I tried that and I ate more of it than he did 😂🙈just spot on! Was with naan bread, poppadoms, mango chutney and chips. Absolutely brilliant! I had the hotdog and even though it was different to any other hotdog I've had, it was just lovely! Their cheese bites on the starters are my favourite thing, always hot and crispy and gooey 😍 Thank you for another excellent meal!

We booked a table for 7 people to watch the ABBA tribute band last night. What a fabulous night ! The pub was packed and the atmosphere was great. Enjoyed a few drinks and some good honest pub food. The band were excellent. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to The Horseshoe. Thank you.

Had a lovely family meal, the pub was busy but the food didn't take too long to arrive. The staff were friendly and the general manager made a point to come and speak to us when we finished out meals.

Beer is good, service very good. The only thing that I feel lets it down is the cleanliness. As a child friendly pub serving food I would expect everywhere to be spotless. Floors are generally grubby and the toilets (especially the ones near the gambling machine) were horrible. Looked like they hadn't been cleaned for weeks. A real shame.

Booked in for Sunday lunch, welcomed by a friendly lovely young lady behind the bar. Ordered drinks then sat at our table while looking through the menu. Plenty of choice, even had a specials board. Ian the Manager took our order and we chatted for a while. The food came out, we both had the roast beef. It was fabulous, very tasty would highly recommend. Only just had room for a pudding, also fabulous. Ian told us about up coming events he has planned. We will definitely be back with family and friends

Waited over an hour for a food order, went up to the bar too cancel one meal and ask when the other meal would be ready as I was concerned that the head chef in charge of the microwave might have fallen asleep or fell into the chip fryer The fish and chip order came but looked like it had been on holiday at the nevada nuclear test site Very disappointed with the whole experience today, very poor service

Me & x2 friend's popped to the horseshoes last night and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the ultimate Southern fried chicken burger ( wish I'd of taken a photo ) it was one of the best I've had, highly recommended 👌 juicy and super tasty

Have not been to the Horseshoe for quite a few years as it did not seem particularly inviting and the menu became boring ( unchanged for ages ). After reading a review that a new landlord had taken over and changes had been implemented, my wife and I decided to give it a go. On entering the pub, it seemed more inviting as well as keeping the character of the place. The landlord gave the impression that he wanted the visit to be a pleasant experience and was adamant that he wanted everything to be right. I would certainly recommend Horseshoe. There was a good choice of food and the meals we ordered were certainly tasteful and well cooked. Look forward to going there again.

Very nice pub. Friendly owner and staff couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome , the owner Ian was brilliant to talk to and great with the kids can teach great magic!! His daughter Steph was also just as fun to be around sat with them all afternoon/evening. Ended up staying for food even though we popped in for one brilliant atmosphere people and food!!
