Very poor meal, Ham salad looked like someone put a bag of lettuce from the supermarket and a bit of very cheap ham. Bread roll inedible. When I mentioned to server, got a blank look and “do you want another roll” No I wanted a decent ham salad. Clearly no qualified chef or staff with any responsibility. Don’t bother eating here. Waste of money.

We called in here shortly before 2.00pm on a Sunday, in the hope of getting lunch, having been let down by another establishment. We were delighted to find that they were still serving food, and had a table available. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and service was prompt although they were busy. We enjoyed tomato and basil soup, my husband had steak and ale pie and I had plaice. My husband followed up with treacle sponge pudding, but I didn't have room for anything else - the portions were very generous! It's easy to see why this place is popular, especially considering that the prices also offer very good value.

I can't recommend this place enough. On a nice sunny day you have the courtyard and grass area which is lovely to relax too. A small playground for the little ones. We had a drink and sat outside making the most of the weather. We would book for a meal later that day as prices are more than fair. We sat inside and it was Covid safe all staff had masks on and hand wash was available for both staff and customer. The Inside is nicely done and the waitress team were so lovely down to earth yet professional. We had three courses which we don't normally do and there was plenty of choice encase you have any diet requirements. Every course was lovely. I'd go as far to say next big family get together ( once Covid allows ) this place would be ideal and we would definitely book. We had a great time and my photos don't do the food justices. Can't wait to plan our next visit.

We had pre-booked a Boxing Day family meal for four (along with two dogs) and the staff were really welcoming and could not do enough for us. They fetched us a table and made it up for us in the bar area so that we had more room, and to be honest it was a lovely atmosphere so we were glad to be amongst other happy people. The food was excellent and was served efficiently and promptly by the lovely waitresses. If you're looking for a people/dog friendly pub then look no further as this place was brilliant and made our day.

We are a walking group from Allestree Derby and once again booked Bentley Brook for our Xmas lunch. There was 58 in our party, the room was brilliant and the service was faultless. We sat at tables of eight, and the service was so well organised, efficient and friendly. The food was beautiful and fresh, with very generous portions. Most members had three courses, followed by tea and coffee. Everyone enjoyed, no one had any problems. 58 out of 58 is pretty good going. My thanks to Chloe who I did most of the organising, and everyone there who made it such a lovely outing. See you next year.

The staff were brilliant and were very patient and kind to the children who took full advantage of the play area. My partner and my son decided to stop for dinner on Friday the 27th of July the setting for the pub is gorgeous and there is a lovely play area . We have had Sunday carvery at this Bentley brook previously and we were very pleased . However on this occasion the food was awful , we ordered jacket potato which was rock hard barely edible the beans were dry and looked as though they had been left for hours . My partner's lemon fish gougons were rock hard , and the chips were like gristle and teeth breaking . I would not be rushing back , the staff were friendly however there was a couple bookings wedding next to us and it didn't seem appropriate to complain . Let's hope it's a one off.

The staff who greeted us were very friendly but unfortunately the food did not live up to our expectations Firstly my wife had the trio of melon which sounded better in the description than it proved to be on the plate and I had the Black and Blue mushroom which was advertised as stuffed with onions garlic and blue cheese - It seemed they ran out of cheese and were very heavy on the onions!! The mains we selected were the steak and ale pie and the poached salmon in hollandaise sauce You could not fault the quantity but the quality wasn't there. I suppose that we were expecting a more refined presentation and we got just ordinary PUB GRUB !! The prices suggested we should have got more.

Called here after a little walk round Tissington. Thought it looked nice online and we could take our greyhound as well. Very impressed with the lunchtime menu. I had a bacon and brie ciabatta, served with coleslaw and salad and my husband had cheese and pickle sandwich again with salad, and a side of cheesy chips which were delicious! With a shandy and a martini and lemonade it came to £18.50. Very reasonably priced for a hotel. Sat in the sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely go again if in the area!

It was early afternoon so we were worried food would not be available but luckily it is served all day. There was a full menu with the usual things fish & chips, pies, steaks etc. and lighter bites which we all decided upon. The ciabattas were really good, our choices were, chicken & tomato and bacon & tomato plus a basket of fries, one portion plenty for 2. Another of our party had the ploughmans and this was huge, cheese and posh pork pie all the trimmings. The service was friendly but a bit on the slow side but it didn't matter as we were in no rush. This was a large group booking, approximately 80 of us. Upon arrival and entering the room our first impression was one of delight. It was beautifully decorated, with dressed chairs, lovely lighting, all giving a lovely ambience. An excellent venue for a wedding. Service was excellent, my only slight negative was the food choice, it was rather boring. My starter was nice, pate with a delicious chutney, then salmon, followed by fudge cake, but no cream...where was it? My husband's pork wasn't so good, he said it was overcooked and dry. I know it's a little difficult to cater for large numbers, but I think improvement is needed on the food. Unfortunately we didn't make it into the main part of the building, so I can't comment about that.

What a difference the time makes, I ordered a glass of coke, I was given a glass of carbonated water with coke colouring, it was awful, and returned, exchanged for cordial, equally disgusting. Then the food, Burgers black on the outside, barely done on the inside, served in a bowl, are we animals, or is it now considered a desert, chips never home cooked, if they were they must have been reheated more times than anything else, lettuce with brown fridge burn. We left the majority of the food we ordered. Poor is a compliment, chef is poor, never again. this pub now offers take out, if it's as good as the restaurant food I'd stay out.

This restaurant is a great find. Our second visit here is an many years was again brilliant. The menu has a great choice and it is nice to see some different dishes rather than the same few. The specials offered extra variety and are all seasonal choices. My fiancée had the lasagne and I had the Thai green curry. Both were obviously home made and presented brilliantly. The food was well cooked and hot. For dessert we both chose the chocolate and hazelnut bread and butter pudding which sounded a great idea, but somehow had no taste of hazelnut but a strong orange taste. Not to my liking.Personally I feel I made the wrong food choices as they weren't completely to my taste. This is nothing bad on the restaurant, just my personal taste. The staff were very polite and welcoming too, nothing too much for or them. Three of us ate here on yesterday evening, 15th January. It was our first visit, and our last. On the plus side, we were given a pleasant welcome and the staff were friendly. We were seated in the bar as we had our dog with us, and he was also made welcome. The bar is brightly lit and decorated in a modern style, not particularly cosy. We ordered from the extensive menu, and our starters arrived promptly. My husband and I had garlic mushrooms in cream sauce, our companion had tomato and basil soup. The mushrooms were tasty but served swiming in a very creamy, almost soup-like sauce, hence rather difficult . Our companion described his soup as so-so, nothing special. Our main courses were mediocre at best. I had spicy bean casserole, which was a stodgy mush, and came with rice which was inedible, being stuck together in a hard lump. My husband's lamb shank was grey and dry, and our companion's rotisserie chicken came with undercooked chips and stuffing balls which were rock-hard and therefore inedible. The only time a member of staff enquired how our meals were was just after our starters were served, and as we hadn't really had time to eat them we replied that they were fine. No one asked how our main courses were. I had noticed that at the front of the menu the owners invited comments on the taste and presentation of the food, so when the young waitress came to take our main course plates away I explained that we hadn't been able to finish our meals because of the faults outlined above. She didn't apologise, or offer any discount, she merely said that she would tell the chef. Not much use to us, but I suppose future diners might benefit if the chef and/or owners cared, but judging by the other reviews, I somehow doubt it. Needless to say, we didn't order puddings. The bottom line: the bar is fine if you just want a drink, but avoid eating here.

We came here for an evening meal as it was the closet pub to where we were staying. My wife and I shared a starter of Prawn and Smoked Salmon salad, which was palatable although simply two small pieces of smoked salmon and a good portion of plain prawns on a nondescript pre-dressed salad of sweetcorn, onion, and various other diced materials plus lettuce. I ordered a chicken kebab main and asked if I could have cajun wedges (a separate side item on the menu) rather than the included chips - "of course" said the barman, only to actually bring the meal with both chips PLUS a bowl of wedges... charged at full price as an extra side. The kebab came with more of the aforementioned salad, and only had three tiny pieces of chicken amongst much mushroom, onion and pepper - VERY disappointing. My wife had the chicken curry, which was fairly bland but ok. We won't be returning.

Food is normally ok but when you get served with white chips with the excuse that they are new potatoes and that's the best they can do and being served with a burnt over cooked sausage on another occasion I found my way down the road to the coach & horses that was very, very good. It's a shame because The Bentley Brook was at one time very good been going there since 1982. They still serve good food most of the time.

Was recommended to come here but on arrival our good sense should have told us to leave. That said, we persevered... we sat at a table in the bar which was sticky with drink. Our first two choices were not available so we settled for the steak.. one ribeye and one sirloin (as there was only one ribeye available). Steak, was OK but only luke warm and came with peas in a recycled creme brulee pot, as if they had been keeping them warm for hours - definitely not just cooked. Chips - hunks of potato briefly fried. Tomato grilled... almost and onions.. OMG... onions which must have been from a large catering tin from Costco - disgusting. As soon as we had our food plonked in front of us we were asked by one member of staff if the food was OK.... seconds later another member of staff asked us the same, then amazingly, another member of staff asked the same!! I would have mentioned that I didn't really like the peas, chips, tomatoes or onions and that the steak was only luke warm but I couldn't really see the point as they were all so busy chasing their tails. We both felt robbed of a good meal which is readily available at the pub down the road - I wouldn't even recommend going here if you were on a budget... not cheap and sadly very poor in every aspect. I couldn't wait to leave.

The young lady behind the bar was most helpful and welcoming.

We were staying nearby and wanted to go out for a meal and had been here a couple of years before but only for a drink so thought we'd give it a try.We arrived and there was a wedding going on but the front bar was kept free for non wedding people. The menu was good and the beers I tried were also very nice. The staff that served us were great, they were able to advise on what was in the food which was good as one of the party has a wheat allergy. There were 5 in our party and there was something to please everyone on the menu. The pie I had was gorgeous, it was steak & stilton. Its definitely on my list of places to go the next time I'm up there.

We went to The Bentley Brook for dinner on a Thursday evening. The place looked great, and wasn't too busy. The menu was good, and we ordered our food at the bar and sat at our table in the bar area. After quite a while we noticed that customers who had arrived after us had received their food and we hadn't .It turned out that the young girl who took our order had forgotten to put it on the order clip in the kitchen. She was very apologetic and brought the food to us after a short while. It would have been nice if the staff had paid more attention to the customers than discussing their social life behind the bar, but it was fortunate the food was really nice and the incident didn't detract from the meal. I would however, point out that there appears to be no dress code for customers. I realize that the area is ideal for walkers and cyclists, and that people will be dressed accordingly. To that end, there is a notice requesting that muddy boots are removed. Fair enough. However, I would not expect to see people sitting on stools at the bar when they have just left a garage where they were working, with oil all over their clothes, and arms. They are obviously regulars,as the bar staff knew them. The evidence of their visit was a dirty smear on the wall, and the seats where they had been sitting. Had another customer sat there after them, their clothes would have been ruined.

Looked nice from the outside. The customer service was bad and we ended up having to clean our own table with a cloth from the bar and there was no apology. Gammon was sent back twice. It was undercooked and then sent back again after the chef was obviously annoyed and just burnt it the second time. Other meals were ok. Food and drinks were very expensive. Won't be visiting again.

Lovely carvery for our daughter, great steak and stilton pie for us - very tasty. In a party of 17 and we were all happy with our food, we turned up - un booked - and found no problem sitting together outside, perfect as we could watch the children in the play area. We all ordered in individual families and all our food came out within about 15 minutes.Only downside was the service behind the bar was VERY slow, however after making the barman aware of how long I'd been waiting (and a number of people both in front and behind me) he got some extra staff....just a shame that it took me saying something for him to do this and it wasn't observed by any of the many waiters and waitresses milling around outside and in the bar area.

From the outside, this looked like a carbonaraomising pub, and on going in the same appeared true, the menu was varied and the specials board enticing. They say the proof is in the pudding, however we did not stay for pud.The service was only passable, not wholly welcoming. The food was presented okay, but the carbonara was laced with cheese, Cheddar I think, my 9 year old can eat most dishes, but this was a little much. The soup was, well, watery and looked a little curdled, not good for potato soup; though the taste was actually passable. The Thai fish cake was mostly mashed potatoe. The pie of the day was less than special. The red snapper (fish special) was, well I am not even sure it was red snapper, over cooked and very poor value for money. On the bright side, no one got food poisoning and the drinks were good.

The staff couldn't care less if the food was good or not, and it was not. Pork and stuffing ciabatta, the stuffing was a round, burnt, solid disk, totally inedible. The staff couldn't care less if you enjoyed the food or not. The stuffing on the roast pork sandwich was inedible, it was a hard, burnt, solid, dried up,disk of stuffing and the chips had an onion taste as if they had been fried in the same fat as onion rings. I made my complaint but it was a couldn't care less attitude from the staff. We won't be going there again.

The title of our review says it all! We called for lunch and ordered from the main menu and the Specials Board. When we finally received our food its presentation left much to be desired. Two of our party ordered Fish and Chips but the batter was so hard it could have been Tortoise and Chips. The latter was cold and the mushy peas were just indescribable. The other two of our party ordered from the Specials Board, one chicken and leek pie in which the chicken was sadly lacking and the other had the Steak and Stilton Pie which was satisfactory except for the hard peas and cold chips. We complained to 'Wendy' who obviously never completed her course at Charm School and didn't know the meaning of customer care and was most put out when we took the change and refused to give a tip. She was told that we would not come again and her attitude was one of 'could not care less'. My advice is, eat elsewhere!

The reason for my visit to the Bentley Brook Inn was to check out the Toe Wrestling World Championships, which they host each year. Everyone was really lovely and the pints were delicious. I ordered a bit of food, which was tasty. I would have very much liked to have stayed a few nights here as the building was so old and charming. Some friends stayed here for the event and enjoyed it. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and a good laugh. I would also highly recommend checking out the Toe Wrestling Championships as they are a ton of fun. A big rambling place this with a mismatch of styles and an overly extensive menu. Would be better to chop it down and concentrate on doing fewer dishes well. Some good points, but it is like being stuck in some Austin Powers menu. Mash isn't strictly mash, more like crushed boiled spuds, but it is proper potato and plenty of it. Gravy was tasteless which was a shame. The décor is loud and mismatched.

We stayed at a b&b just down the road and the owner recommended this restaurant/pub as a place to eat. We arrived for tea on the first night and received a very warm welcome, the food was fantastic and at a very good price. We were very impressed so visited again on the second night of staying nearby. The staff are all very friendly and make sure you have everything you need. The inside is lovely country pub style and there is plenty of room to sit and relax. They have a large outdoor grassy area and lots of tables on the patio area. Plenty of car parking space and it is in an easy to get to location. Can't wait to go back again!

A group of ten of us had completed a walk in Dovedale and decided on a lunch at Bentley Brook. We could not have made a better choice, they were not phased by the arrival of the group on a Monday lunch time and the choice of mains and puddings was exceptional. My friends had fish and chips (not at all "mini" as advertised), or liver and onions or gorgeous sausages and mash or chicken and mushroom pie. We had a roast pork lunch with all the trimmings. The puddings were all home made and were presented in generous proportions. The value was great, two courses for under 8 pounds! We'll be back for more next time we do a walk in the area. The beer was good too!

Visited here last night as we were staying at nearby Newton House. Is a gorgeous building and the manager was so friendly and courteous. The food was amazing! Excellent quality using locally sourced goods and you can tell that everything is home cooked. I had steak and ale pie, my partner gammon steak and both meals were huge! We really didn't need starters and had to pass on desserts. They serve a good variety of alcohol, including ales and spirits. If we were in the area again we would definitely make a return visit here!

We visited Willows (previously Tutbury Tearooms) for lunch. There was a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks on the menu, although there didn’t seem to be a children’s menu. The cafe was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was nice, but very expensive. £9.75 for a jacket potato with cheese (plus £1.50 for each additional topping) is far too much!!! My son had two potato waffles with grated cheese and baked beans, which cost £9.99!!! We left feeling negative due to this and are unlikely to return.

Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.
