Lovely place with a cosy atmosphere and great food for a reasonable price, will definitely be visiting again!

Excellent stay over the August 2024 Bank Holiday, well received by Mark and looked after very well by all his team. Great standard of cleanliness, excellent food and rooms totally in keeping with a 14th Century Inn brought up to current standards by Green King. The D and P will be girst to receive my accommodation enquiries in the future. PS Tutbury in general has moved up the social quality ladder remarkably in recent years!

Lovely place - come here a lot and love the fact it’s dog friendly. Would recommend. The food is lovely and staff are always friendly. I would like the pub just to double check the dog beds as we did find something on one of our dogs.

Visited for a Sunday lunch which was of a decent standard. We’ve had better but it was good. My daughter particularly enjoyed the huge Yorkshire puddings.

Have not visited for a while due to numerous minor failings with service,payments and food. Visited two weeks ago and what a change The food was excellent the service was fast friendly and efficient the whole operation was exactly as we had come to expect from Chef & Brewer. We were served by Mark who I later found out was the manager. What an excellent job he has done turning this venue around. Definitely on our must visit when in Tutbury.

We stayed overnight at The Dog and Partridge, and were really impressed by the accommodation, service and food. The room was beautiful, with a very historic feel, including wooden beams and carvings. It was very spacious, with a fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities hidden in the cupboard, plus table and chairs. It had a nice deep bath and good toiletries too. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a well stocked continental buffet plus your choice of cooked breakfast. The service from Mark and his team was excellent, will all staff we interacted with being helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel for an evening of drinks in the comfortable pub part, a delicious meal, or as a great place to stay.

Had not been here for some time but decided to come out for a Saturday meal (late afternoon) .Greeted immediately by staff and shown to a table for two (with the wife) and drinks were ordered. Good choice of beers. We opted for the Gammon Steak and Smothered Chicken. Excellent portion size and the BBQ sauce on chicken was fantastic. A great experience and will be returning soonee than later

Arrived for a pre booked table. Sat at our table for a good 15 minutes before even being acknowledged. Finally got drinks and ordered food. Drinks arrived (2 were wrong). Got our meals two adults pork loin supposed to have cracking (the other adults meal and child’s meal was ok apart from they brought beans not garden peas with the child’s steak). Arrived no crackling and only one vegetable. When I enquired they simply said oh yep they should have said when you ordered. When I asked for pudding menu, they waited ten minutes. So I went to the bar to pay the bill. I was greeted at the bar with a “be with you shortly”. When I did get someone’s attention to pay the bill they simply printed it off and presented me with all it. I asked are you not going to ask if our meal was ok? She said ok how was your meal? When I told her some of the issues she said sorry about that. Nothing else.

Pretty shocking Sunday roast. A pretty pricey roast for the area and absolutely nothing to write home about. Staff were friendly but not attentive. Several times had to get up and ask for someone to bring horseradish, to take a drinks order, to clear plates, to bring the bill. The portion of meat was small and overdone. The Yorkshire pudding (if homemade) is sad. The roast potatoes are actually chipped up potatoes. I had to ask to bring some more as I was insulted that, putting my chips all together, I had less than one roast potato. As a table, we were brought a jug of ‘extra’ gravy. I’m not sure where the ‘extra’ came from as we hadn’t been given any to begin with. And one jug between a table with a dinner as dry as that was quite poor. We were seated in a dark corner despite the fact there was plenty of space in the light. We eventually asked to move to a free table and, to their credit, the staff did allow us to move. To top it all off, this was a ‘birthday’ meal. This was my Nanna’s treat and it was just pretty bad all round. I would have complained (again) had it been possible to get the staff’s attention.

My wife ordered grilled sage butternut squash steak, flat field mushroom, roasted onion, spiced sweet potatoes, charred courgette, garden peas and grilled tomato. Served with chips and balsamic gravy It arrived with no ‘flat mushroom’ or ‘tomato’. Having questioned as to there whereabouts, we were told they had no mushrooms, yet they never told us this at the point of ordering, hoping perhaps we wouldn’t spot the missing items. Halfway through the meal a tomato was found and delivered to the table.

Very disappointed with the Sunday roast the beef was tough roast potatoes undercooked and Yorkshire pudding soggy As we often eat here we invited family to join us it was not up to your normal standard

In the middle of our 5-hour road trip, all five of us stopped for lunch. The food was tasty, the service was friendly, and there was parking! We ate outside in a shaded area.

Great food, cosy atmosphere, friendly service. I particularly recommend the steak and ale pie. Fantastic selection of alcohol-free drinks. Super easy to book a table and view the menu online prior to visiting. Free customer car park to the rear. We love it here and have been several times now.

25 of us visited after an away day at Uttoxeter Racecourse, the staff couldn't have been more helpful ahead of our visit, even securing us space in the garden due to the nice weather. We pre-ordered and everything went smoothly, food arrived not long after arrival and every single meal was delicious, and huge portions. Staff were great on the day also, super friendly and welcoming pub. Limited parking but we all found parking nearby in the village. We will be back when we next visit Uttoxeter. Thank you for having us!

Always made to feel at home. Mark and the team are lovely people. I would recommend the Dog and Partridge to anyone whether it's for the excellent food or having a drink in the comfortable bar area or outside in a choice of seated areas.

Had an excellent roast Turkey dinner.

Popped into the D&P after a quick trip to Alton Towers for a bite to eat. Ended up having a 3 course meal, because of how chilled and lovely the venue was. Our waitress Amy was excellent, patient, attentive and really looked after us both. Dee was also checking on us and both provided second-to-none customer service. Really enjoyed the visit and 5* all round! Will definite pop back to stay in the hotel and for lunch on our next Alton Towers visit! Thanks ladies!

Friendly staff, just not enough. Sometimes having to wait a long time due to low staff. Nice food and good atmosphere. The next big thing they should focus on however is upgrading furniture. The table and chairs are quite old.

We stayed here from the 21st -25th April . We had a bit of a bumpy start ,but Mark and his team went above and beyond to sort the situation out . It has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and ard working

Very nice meal. Everyone enjoyed their starters and mains - fish and chips, sea bass and steak and ale pie really good. Sticky toffee pudding was good. I had the trio of mini desserts. That was the only disappointing bit - jam roly poly ( quite stodgy and minimal jam, sherry trifle was underwhelming quite dry and couldn't taste any sherry and Eton mess just a little pile of cream and a bit of meringie. So wouldn't recommend that bit the rest was very good. Very friendly and attentive service.

Not a very good experience. We had a party of 14 for a 80th birthday party for my mum. We had pre ordered our food as requested but they had no record of it! Food was mediocre and not the best value. Seabass was tiny and the veg and potatoes were barely cooked! Service, especially from the manager, was diabolical! He made a mistake with the order and argued with me that id got i wrong. Luckily id got a print out of what we'd ordered but he still wasnt very pleased. Wouldnt recommend and won't be going back.

Very disappointing meal off the new spring menu tonight,I had the belly pork which was delicious ,it was served with mash,barely a carrot + a raw wedge of cabbage char - grilled at the edges ,did comment to the waitress I challenge the chef try cutting it let alone eat ,no apology given

We stayed here purely based on the room. We loved the old fashioned beams in the room and it was just full of character. Exactly as advertised. The food and staff were great too. Perfect stay. Will hopefully stay again 👍

Great service even on a full Saturday night. Chef special starter of camembert fondue was delicious. Main was good value and dessert fine.

I am new in this place , I am looking for hotels near by my friends house around 6 pm luckily I found this one just 3and half miles from my friend house. We booked it for one night and gone for dinner and stayed. Very odd hotel but something different than other hotels food and drinks was okay but staff in front house two young girls they are very helpful and very friendly , maybe I will come back.

Visited on mother's day, understandable a busy day with lots of covers. No greeting, 1member of staff at the bar, no idea where to let them know we had arri ed for our time slot. People standing aimlessley around looking lost. Tables cramped together. Service slow as not enough staff on. Food was average quite dry, beef over cooked, belly pork chewy, roast potatoes where frozen ones. Waited ages for dessert, had to ask in the end. Overall not worth the money we payed. Been passed on to Green King HQ.

Had lunch with my wife , the pub was quite busy, but the service was great, and the staff very pleasant and welcoming. The food was good, with a good selection on the menu together with some weekly specials.

Used to be a great place but its gone down hill, staff disappearing for an eternity (in addition to appearing to be incredibly inexperienced at waiting on), and you are unable to order off your phone to table which is a shame as it may have quickened things, the venue is very dark and we had to move tables to be able to see our food we were then put in a room by ourselves and forgotten out, I wont be rushing back.

What a great find! We wanted a dinner out on Saturday evening, however we had a little dog too. We booked online which was easy and also added that we had a pup. We arrived and park in the huge car park to the rear and were shown to our table straight away. I actually missed that you can’t pre book a bar table with a dog however they luckily found us one. Menus had a great range including ‘V’ options and also had specials on offer. We all had pies for some reason and we weren’t disappointed, so tasty! We also had desserts, there was something for everyone, even a tiny one with a drink! Service was super efficient and very pleasant too. We were not expecting such a great place, a hidden gem in a lovely village.

Booked for four people for Sunday lunch for my daughter's birthday. The staff were very friendly (we were served by Megan) and the food was lovely. Three of us are vegan and I would have liked more vegan options on the menu (the only reason I didn't 'give 5 stars) but the food that we had (mushroom wellington and vegan burger) was delicious.

I visited the Dog & Partridge with my wife to celebrate Valentines Day. We booked a table for 6.00pm and arrived at 5.50pm, and taken to our table straight away. The area we were taken to was clean and tidy. The carpet, decoration and furnishings were top quality, and looked inviting. Tables were spaced out so that we didn’t feel as if we were on top of other people. The meal went without a hitch. The presentation and quality of the food was really good, and hot and tasty, with good presentation, well done to the chef and their team. Restaurant staff are efficient, very pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. We left the Dog & Partridge feeling that we had really enjoyed our visit, and looking forward to returning. Well done to all the staff.

Fabulous meal, often travel here from Lincolnshire for lunch with family.

We stay over quiet often just to get away, we came Friday until Sunday, we had a fabulous weekend had breakfast both mornings which I think is great value for money! Stay are incredibly friendly, and we had such a lovely weekend. Mark and the team work really hard and will go out there way to accommodate you! We had a late check out which was really kind cause we weren’t due to leave until 1pm so that was much appreciated! Thank you get yet for a wonderful stay and we will see you soon.

The food is very well presented and the lunch menu very reasonably priced which was a nice surprise. Staff seemed a little odd when we asked for a different table to one next to very dark wood panelling in a dark corner but eventually got seated somewhere else, they could do with some light background music as was a little soul-less. Onion rings were a bit underdone but rest of food very good for the money and convenient car park to rear, although could do with slightly better signage for entranc as we went to the wrong door.

An absolutely fantastic experience for an evening meal. Ella was brilliant, so knowledgeable, especially about the menu. Parker was super helpful and Cam was the definition of hospitality from the moment we arrived. The food was sensational with nothing we'd want to change. Kudos to the chefs. We've been to quite a few chef and brewers, but this one definitely stands out because of the food quality and staff. We would definitely come back. We're staying overnight, so will follow up with a B&B review tomorrow 👍

We stayed in Tutbury over New Year and visited Dog and Partridge every day for food and drinks. The food was lovely with a very varied menu. Really recommend steak and ale pies, chicken and ham hock pies and steak ciabattas. Pub was very warm and clean and staff very friendly. Manager wasn't always as friendly as the bar staff think he was very busy but could have been more friendly. The waitresses was amazing very knowledgeable and friendly. Want to come back on a day trip just for the pies.

Would like to thank manager and all staff and cleaning staff for their hard work and dedication at new year they were extremely professional and friendly . Found out this beautiful place is to have a refit although beautiful it’s time for a spruce up . We came for a visit as a trip down memory. Lane and it didn’t disappoint us full of Charm and tutbury is lovely . The only thing and I do hope this changes in the refit is the menu and standard of food it felt frozen food being microwaved and not good old fashioned professional cooking intro meat you can taste chicken pork beef Yorkshire pudding meat slices Yorkies looked left or out of bag etc we have eaten here before all was totally fresh the chips ok and steak ok but they were well known for high standard food warm plates and freshly cooked even the roost potatoes were not like they should be . Breakfast was amazing however I think the chef needs to change in there as theres no passion on his dishes they just looked like he was fed up . On saying this the refit and change of menus will bring them all back to the best hotel around to which it deserves all the best for2024

Nice evening spent at The Dog & Partridge, cosy & welcoming atmosphere, good attentive service at the start, during & end of the meal, pleasant hot food made for a relaxing & rewarding evening. Special mention a must for Christie who provided first class unintrusive friendly service throughtout. Would recommend.

The Beef Pie contained about 5 small pieces of beef which was very grisseley. The vegetables were hard.

The blurb indicated that we would be greeted on arrival with Prosecco. That didn’t happen and things didn’t really improve. We had starters of soup that tasted mouldy and terrine which had a bit too much peppercorn which made it inedible. As it was Christmas Day we thought we would make the best of it and actually made light of the situation. We gave up waiting for a drink so went up to the bar to fetch our own. It didn’t seem overly busy yet we only saw staff when they arrived with our food. The main course arrived which was below par by some distance. The Yorkshire puddings seemed to have been made the day before and although parts were still crispy, other parts were going stale. The roast potatoes were as crisp as a wet sponge and a tad on the cold side. The pigs in blankets turned out to be a pig in blanket that had stayed in the oven for a little longer than planned and had a resemblance of a turd and a taste to match. To be fair the thinly sliced turkey was nice. I personally didn’t enjoy the stuffing but my wife ate half of hers so I’ll say it was passable just. The veg that came was warm but not hot. Luke warm would be a good description. I think the carrot we left for Rudolph had more taste. The deserts were nice and they were the only part of the meal that we actually finished. We appreciate that the staff at the dog and partridge gave up some of their Christmas to cook and serve but given the £75 per head price tag, we would hope that they were paid well for the day. As for Green King, this was well below our expectations and it felt like profit over quality. That philosophy doesn’t get repeat business it certainly won’t get ours.

Dessert sticky toffee pudding was cold. Little pots of custard but they did bring another when I asked for more. Mains service was a little slow.

Beer was off and the food was just OK,nothing special.

We came here for Breakfast with Santa at the weekend, it was the best Christmas event we have been to this year! The decorations in the pub were amazing and staff all dressed up, the service and breakfast was excellent and you could tell the crafts and games clearly had a lot of time and effort put into making them fun for the kids! I hope they do the same again next year!

My sister & I visited Tutbury for a 3 night brk away from the life of motherhood . Our stay at The dog & partridge was great . The room was fabulous , the food was great , service friendly & swift , Also the Christmas event we witnessed ( breakfast with Santa & Mrs Claus ) was well organised & the happy faces on the children was an unexpected pleasure . Thank you all at the Dog we had a lovely relaxing break .

The Dog and Partridge is a fantastic and historic timber framed building. We had a lovely meal. For mains we had the mushroom Wellington and Sea Bass and scallops on a bed of pea, mint and courgette risotto. For dessert we had a fine Bakewell tart with raspberry coulis and custard. We were served by Mark and Parker. They were very busy and did not stop. We would certainly come again a would recommend to others.

Food still good and service good too, but why did they sit us, four older adults, on a table between two families with noisy kids when the dining room was nowhere near full. We went for breakfast with santa, and what a magical Experience it was. There was loads on offer and so well organised. For £12 my 1 year old got to meet Santa and took home a little gift, he decorated cookies and had so much craft on offer to plus breakfast included Absolutely loved it and we will return next year

Lovely quaint old pub. We had booked from the Festive menu. Unfortunately, it wasn't very warm - the log burner was out of action as they were waiting for a chimney sweep. The Vegetable & Barley soup was mainly chickpeas, and there wasn't very much of it. We'd ordered pigs in blankets, which were big fat sausages wrapped in bacon - not what we were expecting, and I took most of them home for the foxes. The Turkey mains were very good, and nice & hot, but no sprouts. The cider loin meal wasn't very big.

Thank you to the staff especially Dee who made our meal at the Dog and Partridge special. We had items from the Lunch Menu which had variety and the meals were well prepared and filling. Dee was welcoming and made our visit very enjoyable.

Gorgeous building and food, but very disorganised customer service, chaotic. Rooms are dated but great size and comfortable. Some minor health and safety considerations needed. Didn't get breakfast as 1 staff member phoned in sick so no food available and had to ask for a hot drink, no apology received

Check in was easy and the building is full of gorgeous character. Customer service was a real issue throughout and definitely needs work. Unable to locate TV remote in room, asked at reception, response "have you looked under the bed", funnily enough no I hadn't....

Had a lovely hour or two here with some friends. I got the squid and the Korean chicken strips (both as starters). Good size portions and with the price. All well cooked and delicious looking forward to going back when I'm next in the area.
