Stopped in for a couple of pints of stout. Very busy Friday evening. Beer seems good and place is fine. Seems really popular.

When alighting from Burton Train Station, Station Street affords a great opportunity for a mini pub crawl of some quality. There are not many towns I know where a short stroll would encompass four quality beer venues as The Roebuck Inn, the Last Heretic, The Devonshire Arms and the Coopers tavern. Although this one may not have the historic character of The Coopers Arms for example I found it a nice traditional two bar pub, comfortably furnished and with a good range of beers available on its five hand pumps, namely Burton Bridge Brewery Top Dog Stout, Gates Burton Brewery Reservoir, Oakham Inferno, Allsopps Pale Ale and Draught Bass, plus some ciders. The Oakham Inferno was on top form and an excellent pint to take into and enjoy in the front bar with its open fire. Good to see it being well utilised on this Friday evening with a decent crowd in.

Went into this pub whilst in Burton. Did not feel comfortable. Person behind the bar served his locals before me although I was next - not only next but there was no one else. Found the whole pub very unfriendly. Have to say that I never had the same experience at other pubs in Burton.

Nicky and Carl did a three course Sunday lunch to raise funds in order to purchase a Defibrillator for the pub. This was the last of a number of fundraising events. The meal was amazing , quality produce and lots of it . This pub consistently serves great food in a great town centre pub.

Well, if you are visiting the town and you choose your first pub, you hope it will be a good one and this really was. It was great to try something from a local brewery that was new to us. It felt like a traditional, friendly, uncomplicated boozer and there isn't much higher praise than that- very happy we visited.

The Devonshire is a town centre family owned and run pub. It does excellent ales is spotlessly clean and has a great atmosphere. The landlady does food on Tuesdays two or three times a month. We have been to the pie night and most recently the Fish night. The fish was amazing we both had the catch of the day which was Hake it was cooked to perfection and the chips were the best I have eaten in a long time. The portions are huge so don’t eat much in the day before you attend. These food nights get booked up in advance so get in early. Would recommend already booked in for the burger and steak nights in March.

Fantastic chips!! I’ve been drinking here for donkeys years and the beers are second to none, always fresh, crisp and very well kept! They now have special Tuesday food nights which I thought would be farmed out to some franchise and be ordinary. How wrong I was! I’ve just been to the fish night and it was superb! Carl’s mrs does all the prep & cooking aNd it was lovely! Home made chips were fantastic, hand battered cod was simply lovely, service by Dom was perfect and we will be going back! Pity it’s only certain tuesdays per month! Well done Niki

The most superb little pub in Burton, excellent beer from a superb choice of 'proper' wonderfully kept ales. We called for a lunchtime 'snifter', spoilt for choice of beer but I managed... Then we spied the Friday food menu - roast pork bap for the princely sum of £3, order duly placed. What was not to like, a wonderful bap stuffed with the most excellent pork, stuffing and apple sauce. Excellent - proper pub food is not dead thank goodness. Best of all it wasn't accompanied with any unwanted rocket leaves or poached avocado fillets or any such rubbish! Well done Mr & Mrs Stout, its wonderful to have you back after a few years, my favorite pub is back up there where it belongs :-)

Visiting footy fan, meeting up with fellow supporters before match. Drinks: friendly atmosphere, we were made to feel welcome; quick and efficient service, prices reasonable, good selection of good beers. Food: Landlord put on some food for our group as a special deal (as Saturdays not usually a food day). Curry and chips were excellent, and there was plenty of it, for only a few quid.Location, a short walk from the train station, so needed a taxi to the ground, though we walked back after the match.

While in Burton visiting Cask Marque pubs, we were recommended to visit the Devonshire arms and we were glad we did. Very friendly locals recommending different beers which seemed rude to ignore. so instead of 2 drinks, we ended up with 4 between the 2 of us. Glad we listened the beers recommended were very good indeed. The Devonshire Arms is a must visit for beer lovers.

Wow, hardly ever do you see pub do things well, however the Devonshire do everything perfect. From the outside you could be confused that it's a dingy old pokey pub but you couldn't be further away from the truth. When you enter its a proper traditional pub. You have both the bar and the lounge. Bar full of your pub drinkers who go in to eat nuts and talk about beer and wet dogs. The lounge is spacious with plenty of alcoves and seating. It has all the traditional decor you would expect and a random wedding photo stuck on the celling. The bar suits everyone's taste both in drinks where they have a vast arrange and the nibble department is second to none. However the biggest draw to this pub for me and my friends is the atmosphere, it fantastic. The hubbub is great the people are great the staff are great. This pub should not be mussed wether it's for just a couple of drinks out or staying in till closing time you won't be disappointed.

Whilst in store after ordering 2 iced coffee’s we were handed our drinks without lids. My partner very politely asked if we could have lids for our drinks and the member of staff very rudely replied ‘if we had lids I would’ve put one on’. Being an assistant manager in retail I would be appalled if I heard any of my staff speaking to a customer like this.

My partner and I have started popping in recently since the new landlord has taken over. Having read the recent comments I wouldnt take any notice of them, I have been local to the area for years and sadly it’s just one of those areas where certain people do not like change. There is always a good atmosphere, beer is good, we tried the steak night last night (Thursday) and we’re really impressed! Locally sourced Aberdeen Angus steak, beautifully cooked, plenty on the plate and very reasonable! £27.95 for 2 steaks (sirloin) and a bottle of vino, extremely good value and no scrimping on quality. Keep up the good work 👍

Service was slow, considering it was only Friday when I visited. I also overheard two other customers enquire why their orders were taking so long. Isn't it strange how three completely separate parties thought the service was a little sluggish? Food was OK.

My friends and I went tonight and we watched the man blow his nose and then touch our straws when making the milkshakes, another man emptied the bins and continued to make puddings without washing his hands, they used water only to clean their utensils. Didn’t help that it took ages for them to make! Utterly disgusting! Put us off our milkshakes so we ended up leaving them!!! Never go here unless you want to catch an illness !

Usually a top place to eat. Cafe staff are exceptional as are most the staff there, with the exception of Mr Vest the store manager. But on this occasion there was a bird flying around the store. I didn't realise until id finished my coffee and cake. They were still selling food and beverage to be consumed on site with a bird in store.
