The Boat House Kitchen & Bakery By Pom's in East Staffordshire

We were so looking forward to our breakfast and then unbeknown to us, the restaurant was inundated with dogs. It is not made clear on the website that this is a dog friendly restaurant or I would not have booked as one of us is allergic to dog hair. Such a shame. The dog area should be separate. Not the dining experience we all want to share. Never got to taste my eggs benedict. 😔

This is my go to place to eat. My recent visit was with my daughter for lunch. We both had the haloumi burgers which were very tasty and filling. I must make special mention of the staff here. Josh is a diamond and should be front of house all the time as his relationship with the public is second to none and speaks volumes for the warmth and friendliness of all staff at Poms at Barton Marina. Good food, a wonderful ambience and staff who treat you like their best friend. You can't ask for more.

Had breakfast here, was very quiet but food was great and really good selection on the menu. Good size portions and reasonable price. Helpful friendly staff.

Lovely cosy and relaxing feel to the place. We love the Poms in LIchfield but thought we would try this one for a change and weren't disappointed. Portion sizes for the Pb Brunch could be bigger considering the price though. Delicious food all the same.

Went to get a quick coffee at 4.39 only to be told that they are closed by a member of staff, what is the point in having opening times clearly listed if you don’t stick to them

We booked a table for 4 and I asked for a high chair on the notes. When we arrived we were told that the table was for only 3 adults and a high chair. I have never had to count my young baby in a booking before as she does not have anything off the menu. This was my mistake (however not clear on the website), however it felt like the waitress had a go at me as soon as we arrived saying we hadn’t booked for enough people etc. she was abrupt and not friendly. We were then squeezed on a table (not big enough for even 3 people and a high chair) when there was a much larger table available and empty for the entire time we were there. It was a disappointing start, especially as the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely.

I meet with 2 friends at Poms in Barton Marina regularly, and on each occasion we are greeted by Katerina (apologies if incorrectly spelt- lady with red hair and glasses). Katerina goes above and beyond, and nothing is too much trouble for her. She has a bubbly and vivacious personality and a great sense of humour always assuring us that calories do not count on Sundays. The food is good value and extremely tasty (cakes and pastries are to die for), which is demonstrated by us returning frequently. Till next time.

All was good, just had a coffee and some dog treats. When we asked for the bill an embarrassed looking member of staff told us they'd added a tip, is that ok? Not happy with this really, would have left one anyway, but thought it was unacceptable. Also felt for the staff having to say this. You could feel the awkwardness. Edit: Thanks for your reply. It is your choice to allow the "till" to pre add the tip to the bill for coffee. 😀 In my opinion this is a poor choice. As I said though, your pre loading turned our very pleasant visit to feeling like we'd been "done". Surely this can't be a good policy. I suppose it depends on what you put first.

Food was nice but very expensive. £1.50 for two tiny bits of toast and £4 for an extra sausage. Surprised toast isn’t included in the all day breakfast. There was also a hair on the breakfast and we had to send it back. It was nice but wouldn’t rush to go back as it didn’t feel value for money unfortunately.

We entered to be met by an incredibly rude member of staff behind the counter. No welcome or smile nothing. I asked about the new discount card offer for moorers. To which she replied an instant and definite no that it was not available and a bunch of negative comments. She was not just abrubt she was rude. If she was not aware of the new offers, she could of been polite and professional and said I'm not sure but I will try and found out. But no, my husband showed her the loyalty card and the QR code she rudely replied we don't even have the facility to scan codes, we are not the marina cafe as if to disrespect the cafe. I came outside to double check the deal was still current on my phone. It was, so I returned to show her stating I would never be using Poms or the offer because of how rude she had been. But that she needed the infirmation so she could be better informed for future but she didn't care. Their moto is love people love food. I think not!!!! We always go to Indulgence because of the great food and friendly staff but we thought we would try Poms because the new moorer offer. But we will not be back. She needs a serious amount of customer care training to bring her up to an acceptable standard. Shocked and appalled.

Quality and presentation of the food is good, Quantity may be a little lacking in some peoples books. Very pricey to start, (2 people, both had eggs Benedict and 3 non alcoholic drinks in total, , £43.70) but then add a "discretionary service charge" to your bill, totalling £48.07 for breakfast. Tipping should be optional at the end, customers shouldn't have to ask to remove it.

Far too expensive and now they lead with a 10% service charge. Wouldn't go back.

Visited at lunchtime and received a very warm welcome as soon as we arrived. Lovely cafe/bistro in a nice situation. The food was amazing - so tasty and well presented with a number of different options. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The interior was spotless, and nicely decorated. Everything about our visit was spot on.

The lady at the front with red hair was so accommodating and welcoming. We were running late and it was busy and she still managed to fit us in with no hassle. Food was great and service too. She came and checked on us a number of time Highly recommend All the staff were great

Trying to put into words what we experienced today. Good, excellent, warm friendly, food exceptional. Not the cheapest but in our view the best. Felt like we were greeted as old friends, not as first visit customers. Excellent as dogs allowed in, they got so many cuddles. Just beautiful food. Thankyou all for a lovely experience. Will be back very soon.

Expensive but a very generous portion size. Opted everyone in my group automatically for a non-transparent service charge. Bacon was disproportionately cooked for the American Pancakes, some were paler than others. If thinner slices were used instead at higher quantity it would likely be easier to eat given its sweetness.

Cashless. Won't be returning, which is a shame.

First time visit. Was a very busy weekend brunch, but the food was excellent, fresh, looked great and was very generous. Buzzing atmosphere.

Popped in for a simple coffee and cake and was given overpriced cake that was far from freshly prepared. The vegan option was so dry it was inedible. Complained to staff but no apology nor refund offered. Avoid if you have dietary needs as the options proved to not great. Edit...the cake was barely touched and you never even looked at it. Why lie?

Thoroughly excellent Mexican Hash dish. Proper food for a cold Easter day. Service was slick and professional. Altogether, warm and welcoming. Americano's with flavour, full marks.

Lovely local place for coffee and cake

Went in for a lazy lunch with my Mum. I had the Mexican Hash which was fantastic; really great quality. Service was attentive but never intrusive. Will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended.

My weekly treat to myself is their Lemon Meringues. Absolutely scrumptious. The staff are always friendly and polite. There's always a lovely atmosphere when you walk in. Took a friend there back in the spring for coffee and cake, again delicious.

This was a lovely find. The food was excellent and the cafe allowed for some cheeky afternoon cocktails! The carrot and coriander fritters were really tasty. Excellent vegetarian options. Beautiful view of the marina.

I booked here for brunch with 2 friends. We all loved it! A warm welcome, a busy, buzzy atmosphere and excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble and our drinks and food arrived in a timely manner. The food came exactly as described on the menu and was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Generous portions of well cooked food. A really lovely place to meet for a relaxing couple of hours. Would definitely recommend. Thank you to the lovely young Gentleman who served us 😊

Finally, I've been to the boathouse! I have visited Pom's Lichfield on various ocasions and am pleased to have finally made it to their second venue. Had brunch here (as pictured), and it was really tasty. It is a little pricey, but for great fresh food by local suppliers and good service, this is what I don't mind spending out money on. Two breakfasts, one large one small and the mexican hash, which was a huge portion! Will be back indeed 😊

I came here with my partner as an anniversary treat for brunch. I had the Bennie eggs and a Bailey's espresso martinis and my partner had the full English and the s'mores hot chocolate. Everything was fresh and great quality. We also treated ourselves to a cupcake to take away which was also amazing. The servers were friendly and a very clean and relaxed environment. For those with dogs, they are also dog friendly.

Cherie was a lovely host and looked after us during our brunch. The atmosphere was spot on and the food was delicious.

There was four in our party, a girlie get together 😊 The food was very nice as expected. However our only criticism was the vegan choice of food wasn’t great and our vegan lady wasn’t asked if she wanted her sourdough sandwich toasted (it didn’t say toasted on the menu). This came toasted and was very dry, although she did say it was ok. Our waitress Sheree was very nice and extremely helpful and did say at the end when we mentioned the vegan choice that she could have adapted other dishes. Although when you go out for food you kind of expect to be plenty of choices to accommodate all dietary needs without having to adapt. Which brings me to my final recommendation moving forward - vegan cakes would have been an excellent end for our meal but sadly nothing but ice cream was available!! So none of us felt we should have a cake without our vegan friend. It really surprises me in this day and age that an establishment like Poms didn’t accommodate suitably for vegans. And also just one more point of disappointment, no Mexican Hash!! 👎🏼 I have been to Poms at Lichfield on several occasions and always had a lovely time with excellent service and excellent food. Your Barton branch was just as nice and Sheree was a great host

Had a beautiful birthday brunch here with family. Received excellent service from Josh and his colleagues, and the food was delicious. As a party we ordered an English breakfast, the pancakes, a smoked salmon Bennie and poached eggs, spinach & mushrooms on sourdough. All thoroughly enjoyed alongside good coffee. Would recommend and will certainly return.

We went for a brunch here, the food was ok but was overpriced for what it was. However the venue has no facilities for baby changing, I went to change my baby and was rudely told by a staff member that there is no changing facilities and I would have to go to the public toilets in the marina, the staff member was quite abrupt about it and didnt apologise or anything. To not have a changing facility for babies in a cafe really shocked me! Especially for the price of the food and drink.

Shame to read the poor reviews because of the pricing, but small independents struggle to stay open during this cost of living crisis, and with the NMW increase. However I feel the price really reflects the quality and quantity of the food. I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had the Mexican hash which was delicious and a huge portion! We also had a milkshake each which were MASSIVE and soooo tasty. Decor is great. One of our favourite brunch spots.

Two dinners, 2 puddings, 2 drinks £ 63.80! This place is for the rich and/or extremely healthy eaters. My best example is, if you're the sort of person who likes a chocolate bar with 85% cocoa dark chocolate, then Pom's is probably for you. Don't be mistaken into thinking that it's Australian cooking by the name of the establishment. Most of the staff were helpful and friendly. It is exceptionally expensive at £17 for a meal consisting of 2 crab cakes with a poached egg on each, and a tasteless mild sauce. I'd call it very naked cooking. The chia tiramisu was served in a jar and both coffee and rum were highly conspicuous by their Absence! It was very claggy to eat with mascapone on the top, 2 inches of chia and a token chocolate mousse on the bottom. We both left it and I must admit, I've never left a pudding before in my life. Also, I would say that tiramisu is ordinarily served horizontally with good reason. The automatic 10% service charge is a bit naughty, although they can remove it, it's embarrassing to ask.

I have been to both Poms locations (Lichfield and Barton) many of times. Always go back, food is delicious and service is impeccable. Food is always hot, they are happy to sort any dietary requirements. Portion sizes always fill you up (and sometimes can’t finish!) Cakes are wonderful and always fresh. Coffee is always delicious to, another great thing is you can customise what flavour you want to! Dog friendly to which is amazing to! (And doggies always get royalty treatment!) There are so many positives for Poms and we love coming back time and time again!

Having enjoyed brunch a few months ago, I took my 90-year old mum for lunch this week. We both had sausage on ciabstta which we enjoyed but given the current spell of warm weather it would have been better to be able to choose something lighter with salad, such as quiche. Also, the music we felt inappropriate and too loud.

This popular, dog friendly cafe/restaurant is in a beautiful location overlooking the water at Barton Marina. The waiting staff are friendly, chatty, and accommodating, and the food and drinks available are exceptionally tasty. If not for the high prices of the items on the menu, I would absolutely rate The Boat House 5 stars.

A warm welcome in lovely environment and efficient service with very tasty food. But… our breakfasts were ridiculously small - mine was smaller than the same child’s breakfast!! I don’t mind it being expensive - happy to pay - but £3.00 for one rasher of bacon as an extra? Maybe need to review portion sizes & costings? Thankyou though for the welcome…

nice venue, friendly staff, English breakfast delicious so 5 stars but the main issue is they're CASHLESS ..... so zero stars i will not support a business that is taking away the right to use cash - no sign either, you're left either arguing, refuse paying with card or use card and never return.... card payments might be convenient but adopting cashless will help the introduction of CBDC and loss of privacy...so no return....

Visited Barton Marina for the first time yesterday and perused all of the eateries before being tempted by the cakes at Poms. Lovely interior and great welcome. The toiletries in the bathroom were a lovely touch. Is it expensive? Yes, for a family of four, four hot drinks and four cakes cost us £36 😳 but the cakes and hot drinks were delicious so I guess you get what you pay for. However, I don’t recall seeing prices on display for the cakes, I would have preferred full transparency and a service charge was automatically added to our bill without being asked which is a tad presumptuous. Will definitely return but next time be more prepared to dive deep into those pockets.

Called in today, Mothers day as were visiing the market. We hadnt booked and although it was very busy, the lovely Manageress quickly cleared and cleaned a table that had just become vacated. Lovely menu, lots of traditional options and lots of very interesting twists on familiar favourites. As it was mother's day I was given a little spring flower plant. Lovely touch. I had the house mimosa and my husband had a coffee and a bottle of water. We both loved our choices. I had a bacon muffin with an extra poached egg. Delicious 3 very thick rashers of bacon, Fresh muffin and a gorgeously poached egg. If anything too much bacon!! Husband chose the Crab and shrimp fishcake Benny dish. He said it was delicious. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, friendly staff AND the Manageress is a credit to the place. Having worked in hospitality for many years it was a pleasure to be looked after by someone who knows her job. Not the cheapest of places but would rather pay that bit more and come away looking forward to our next visit after really enjoying this visit.

Absolute gem of a place to eat. The staff are so friendly and helpful and remembered us from our last visit and had a menu marked with gluten free options for us. They don't do gluten free cakes/pastries but there is plenty gf options on...

We finally managed to visit this location for breakfast/brunch for ur anniversary and we had a fantastic experience. My wife and I normally visit the Lichfield restaurant and decided to visit this new location that Helen (owner) had told us about in October 2022 and we were not disappointed. The food, drinks and desert option are amazing and nothing it too much trouble for the staff and the owner. I would definitely recommend booking before visiting as it does get very busy and the food is amazing at all times. See you soon.

Absolutely fantastic! From the warm welcome on arrival, to the decor and the spacious seating, right through to the food itself (of course!), The Boat House is everything you’d wish for in a stylish eatery and it’s certainly every bit as good as it’s city centre counterpart, POMS. Portion sizes here are not for the faint of heart, be prepared to feel stuffed in the most delightful of ways and to not need dinner if you choose to eat brunch! The food really is excellent. Highly recommended!

Lovely brunch experience in a fantastic cafe. The coffee, food and service was top notch. The front of house and the barista were extremely friendly and accommodating to our needs of having a baby and a dog with us. The food was excellent, I would highly recommend the crab cakes. But all of the menu looked really appetising and I will be revisiting very soon to try out some other dishes.

Fabulous place for brunch when visiting a friend who lived locally. There were three of us who each had different dishes and each one was perfectly cooked. We finished off with another round of drinks and a cake. The staff were very friendly and professional. Everyone else in the busy restaurant looked very happy with their food and was both children and dog friendly. I’m already planning what I’m having next time with come with a milkshake and waffles top if the list…. Which can be justified with a walk around the lake and Marina after. Thank you!

The staff are just wonderful. I've been here a few times and I've never been disappointed. I do wish there were more vegetarian items on the menu, oddly the only available salad has meat in it. I love the granola and sourdough, and the portion sizes are generous.

I'm already a big fan of Poms in Lichfield, so I was very excited to visit their new venture; The Boat House. It most definitely didn't disappoint! I went with my family and their small dog, for my 30th birthday, and it was the perfect venue. Wonderful scenery, the warmest welcome, and incredible food! I cannot recommend them more!

I had a terrible booking experience and they wouldn’t accommodate us for 11, even I said that I don’t mind put the extra table for 4 separately with a pram space on, they still wouldn’t do it ! They wouldn’t have the space to accommodate us for a pram space either !! Then they wouldn’t refund the deposit I booked the table for 6 as they couldn’t accommodate me for extra space, it’s the inflexible and attitude which isn’t in the hospitality industry I expect… You can tell they are very up themselves! And not used to hospitality! I put the reviews before the manager/owner contact me to address the issues , and then I have received repeatedly disturbing phone calls from them and thought they would apologise for the inconvenience caused by them , when we postponed the booking to Sunday 7th January as we had been told that they wouldn’t refund our deposits. So we might just go ahead to use the deposit. And then I got this “ threaten” email from the own !!! “Good afternoon, I have tried to contact you this afternoon but unfortunately there was no answer. I am disappointed to be informed you have made a google review based at 1 star for the recent booking. As I had mentioned the possibilities of how this could have happened over the phone to give you some understanding, and the information given by the owner on the day and which is more detailed in his response below. This review needs to be removed as it’s damaging to a new business with already uncertain times for small businesses in hospitality. Otherwise, I will have no option but to cancel your reservation this Sunday and process a refund with you. If this review is not removed by Saturday 7th January, your table reservation for Sunday 8th January will be cancelled.” So just let you all have a look how Pom ‘s to treat customers!!! Unbelievable…

Visited en-route to the Peak District for some brunch and Poms did not disappoint. Between us we had the breakfast sandwich (huge!) and the gluten free full English. Both meals tasted lovely and the service was spot on too. It does seem to get quite busy so worthwhile booking in advance if you can!

Well worth a visit, food and coffee lovely.
