Fabulous food, decent price, cakes to die for, attentive staff, brilliant location

Disappointed with the milkshake but cakes ok. Strawberry milkshake was so underwhelming for £5. Sent is back as it was almost like straight milk the first time. Looks like another spoon of flavour added afterwards but simply not worth £5. Cakes ok. Spent £23. Not again

Welcoming and friendly staff, great coffee, good food & very accommodating of us with our laptops for a working breakfast, with the perfect outlook over the water outside.

We went for lunch at The Apple Tree today. I will add this is my second visit in about 5 weeks. The first visit was ok, bar my son’s ham and cheese sandwich not arriving and having to chase this (I believe it was forgotten). When this arrived the sandwich had 2 circular slices of cucumber and 1 cherry tomato on the side which was a little disappointing. Bar that the first visit was ok but nothing spectacular. Another family member booked for today. We ordered drinks and unfortunately the glasses that came were full of drip stains which is of putting but no bother we can drink from the bottle. We ordered various different lunches. The full English looked lovely and was certainly enjoyed. The parsnip soup arrived and was luke warm, I informed the waitress who was very pleasant and got me a fresh soup. Unfortunately when the new soup came it tasted extremely sweet and bar the over powering sweetness was tasteless, the consistency was also questionable. The 2 slices of French stick were also starting to harden as if they had been left on a counter top unopened for several hours. The jacket potato was uncooked and hard in the centre, we highlighted this to the waitress and a fresh potato was sent. The toilet was out of service today which isn’t the end of the world but it would be helpful to let guests know prior to them being seated. The staff are pleasant and apologetic when things were pointed out to them. Unfortunately we would no reccomend the apple tree and will not return.

The best afternoon tea I have ever had! The sandwiches were luxuriously packed. Portions were generous. Cakes and scones so fresh and delicious (like they were freshly home made). Staff were friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend it and I plan to come again.

Arrived about 12.50 and found a table that we were allowed to use as it "had not been reserved". All of the tables on a "walk in basis" - no reserved cards to be seen. Drinks arrived within a few minutes, but there was a wait of some 40 minutes for 2 breakfasts and a breakfast waffle. Noticeable that other orders placed later were fulfilled more quickly. The bill was over £50 and when a comment was made about the delay, the response was "we're busy", notwithstanding that there were empty tables during the whole of our visit. No apology or semblance of regret was expressed - it was almost as if it was our fault for giving them our custom. To add insult to injury, on leaving we checked the printed menu and found that items on the menu had not been included. Overall, this was disappointing, expensive and something that we will not repeat.

I often arrange to meet friends at Barton Marina as it’s a great place to do so. Today I met up with some of my family for coffee and cakes and suggested we meet at the Apple Tree Coffee Lounge. All but myself had never been to the Apple Tree before so I thought it was a great place to take them to. The welcome was really pleasant, which was good but I soon discovered what a mistake that was! First problem was 2 of our drinks that we ordered were brought to the table very quickly. These we discovered were not our drinks (even though they were the exact drinks we had ordered) one of the servers came to us and made us feel very uncomfortable and appeared to blame us that we had someone else’s drinks. In fact it was the servers fault who brought them to our table. They were extremely muddled. Even the guy who took our order continued to have to check our order was correct. Instead of coffee and cake, 3 out of 5 of us decided to order a jacket potato. When the jacket potatoes arrived they were very nicely presented and looked delicious. However I could see them all struggling to eat them. When I asked if there was a problem with the jacket potatoes, they had not liked to mention there was a problem. My son ate all of his but my granddaughter left half of hers as did the other family member. I decided to call the server over to mention the potato’s were hard in places and not fully cooked. When the server came over I pointed the problem out - she was very dismissive and not understanding whatsoever. She could clearly see my granddaughter had left most of the meal. All she could say was you’ve ate half of it you should have said but as my granddaughter pointed out some of it was edible and did not realise that the potato in half of it was not fully cooked. The server just walked away and did nothing. I also spoke to the server who took our order as I felt her customer service was not acceptable. He did offer a hot drink but my granddaughter said we were about to leave and could she take a cold drink away with her. He went away and returned saying that it was a hot drink seated in the lounge or nothing and as he was a new member of staff there was nothing he could do about it. We paid the bill and left. The woman who served us and was rude and unhelpful totally blanked us as we left. The customer service was appalling. The dismissive attitude to the problem was not addressed whatsoever. Such a shame as it was a regular place that I liked to meet up with friends but I certainly don’t recommend it. My reply to their aggressive and their untrue account of what happened, response and trying to put the blame on me for their incompetence is we were NOT all offered hot drinks - which I did not expect anyway - but because my granddaughter did not want a hot drink to compensate as we were about to leave she asked if she could take a cold drink away with her. This was refused. I also did NOT ask or expect any refund on anything - I just expected something of a different reaction than what was and not made to feel we were the ones in the wrong for the drinks and the potato problem. I do have to say Serco is very courteous and I felt he was very embarrassed at the attitude of the lady who acted the way that she did.

Delicious food and the most friendly staff I’ve ever encountered from my 14 years of experience with food. They welcomed us like no other with smiley faces filling the atmosphere of the place. We requested a lot but their smiles never left serving us with great kindness. The food was so nice and aesthetic. Just recommending 1 thing… to add cheese and tuna on the menu with jacket potato. Thank you.

Coffee and cake doesn't leave much change from £10. Quality of the cake was very good and fresh, however, it's very hard to justify a standard coffee at £4.50. Destination is probably the selling point as it has lovely views..

Lovely place, made to feel welcome from entering to door, we were a large party so had to wait for a table, the lady serving us kept us updated and was soooo very helpful. Food and drinks were amazing. Will definitely return

I don't usually post reviews. My husband and I stopped by on Sunday, 45 minutes before they closed. Just came in for a hot drink, not to eat. Before we even stepped in the door we were abruptly told that they had stopped serving, though my husband said it was only to drink. They didn't even say sorry or stop by again. I could understand if this was 20 or so minutes before closing, but 45 minutes seems early. If they stop serving that early everyday, then there should be a clear sign of this. We didn't see that. I've worked in the service industry. Occasionally we had to end service/close early due to a private event or other circumstance. If this was so we had a sign on the door stating this, and made customers aware. We were apologetic, too, and didn't rudely cut customers off by just saying "we've stopped serving." We took our business elsewhere and with good customer service and good drinks.

We called here for some late breakfast and it was delicious. All the food was really fresh, and tasted amazing. It had a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Reasonably priced, will definitely be returning.

The small coffee was £4 which I class as expensive and it was just ‘ok’. We had almost finished our coffee when the tea cake arrived. Disappointing

Never been to the Marina before so decided to give it a try on a rainy Saturday with the wife. Popped in for some food as the menu looked good. Had the coronation chicken jacket potato and it was delicious, huge chunks of chicken and very creamy. Waitress was very friendly. £10 for a jacket potato was a bit pricy but as a treat it was okay.

Had a great time when we used our Afternoon Tea voucher that we had been given as a Xmas gift . Rang in the morning and even though it’s usually 24 hours notice Nicola kindly squeezed us in for that day . All the staff served our food and drinks with a smile , nothing was too much trouble and we both really enjoyed our first time visiting The Apple Tree

Customer service makes a big difference in this day and age and theirs always a warm greeting and a high end batista coffee. Not to mention some great cakes. 5/5

Booked for afternoon tea with my friend as we had gift vouchers. I booked on line then as it said I rang twice, both times received an abrupt recording saying the phone number wasn’t taking any messages sorry. As I received an email confirming afternoon tea for two, I took it as booked. When we arrived they said we hadn’t booked afternoon tea but as we were adamant that we definitely had they would make us one, we said we were willing to wait. Well, what a poor effort! It was what I would call, pathetic! Especially for £25 each! The manager came out and more or less made us feel we were in the wrong. Definitely will not be going there again!

The place was busy when we arrived however the staff were polite, attentive and very friendly, clearing a table for us as quickly as able. The food took a little time to arrive however when it did, it was obvious that you can’t rush a good jacket spud!

First visit here day and very impressed! Really friendly service, great coffee and a nice lunch to follow. We will be back

Lovely venue with a very welcoming team. Excellent service in a spotlessly clean and comfortable environment. We had afternoon tea, the sandwiches were delicious, as were the cakes that we managed to eat (too full to finish them all). Luckily we were able to bring the rest home to enjoy tomorrow. Thanks Apple Tree for a real treat.

Lovely experience here today for brunch Nicola was fantastic friendly helpful very accomadating food was also delicious will definitely be returning 5star like this don't get very often anymore.

This is a hidden gem so if you are visiting the Marina then definitely pop in here for coffee, food or even a slice of cake as they are amazing. The staff were so lovely and our food was served hot. It is a little expensive but the quality of food makes it worth it. Lovely atmosphere and great selection of food and drinks.

Shocking wait of an hour for some food and 2 pots of tea. We ordered 1 jacket potato with cheesy beans and 2 veggie breakfasts one with extra toast. £57 for it all somehow. Food was nice but portion sizes were small. Would NOT go again and DO NOT recommend and it was freezing and only had 1 toilet with an apolagy sign. A picture of a warm fire is useless

Service was slow, considering it was only Friday when I visited. I also overheard two other customers enquire why their orders were taking so long. Isn't it strange how three completely separate parties thought the service was a little sluggish? Food was OK.

A lovely cafe. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. They recommend you reserve a table at lunchtime because it does get busy, but on this occasion, we were lucky to get a table. I had the panini with chicken, bacon and cheese, and a mocha. The bathroom facilities are at the back of the café. The location is nice within the marina.

Can be a bit noisy when full but a nice place.

We had a full English breakfast, although it looked great and was nicely presented, the plate warm etc, we were not impressed. Fried eggs are not possible, the bacon was not well cooked, no crispy fat, just appeared warmed through. The poached egg was fine if small, the sausages were the best thing on the plate. The toast fine. The tomato was again undercooked, and with only a small pot of beans. Also we were given skimmed milk which hardly coloured the tea, we had to ask for a second jug of actual milk (full fat lol) Overall very disappointed, the room was cold and very noisy with no soft surfaces to absorb the din. And 14£ each not including tea.

I took a friend who was down from the Lake District for a quick lunch. We had to wait a while for 2 soups and a tea cake but the tomato soup was awful. My friend said it was the worst tomato soup he had tasted. It was as though they had emptied a tin of chopped tomatoes into a bowl. V Disappointing

Love it , love it , love it !! The staff are courteous helpful and very polite. My dinner ( chilli with nachos - scummy !!) was brilliant and for the first time in my life , I couldn't finish it as it was too big . The marina , as a whole thing is a lovely place to visit . It's just a shame it was only marred by the rain. But hey .... We live in Britain , not Spain . My thanks once again to all The Apple Tree Coffee Lounge staff for looking after us. We'll be back to see you all again soon.

Nice food but service left a lot to be desired. I noticed they were advertising for staff, let's hope they have them soon.

Overpriced rubbish. £35 for two not very filled sandwiches and a tiny bit of salad. Really small bowl of supposed to be fries which were burnt chips. Absolutely awful place in such a nice area. Complete rip off wouldn't be so bad if the sandwiches had a decent amount of filling in them. Shame on this company for blatantly ripping people off of money. Ruined the experience of Barton marina for sure. Avoid.

We ate lunch today, ordered two paninis, one bacon and brie and one tuna melt. Both were not very good, firstly not served in genuine panini bread, the bacon and brie had very little brie cheese within although the bacon was fine. The tuna melt also had very little tune inside and smothered with loads of unpleasant bright yellow cheese, a minimum of side salad accompanied both. At £ 10 each we expected better quaility. Will not eat there again. The service was freindly and O.K.

Great staff and nice breakfast. We didn’t get any eggs with our “Full English” breakfast. But the mistake has been acknowledged and satisfactorily sorted. We will be returning soon.

Very poor breakfast, food wasn’t hot at all everything was cold or slightly warm, definitely don’t know how to poach eggs, disgusting and plate full of water. Will not be-returning

Unfortunately it was not a good experience. Out for lunch woth a friend and although I specifically told all the staff I was dairy free due to an allergy, they had very little choice on the menu, back and forth with option's which were not suitable, I then chose a wrap however when my food came out presented with cheese on the salad. When I told them they didn't seem to care which was disappointing. Expensive for the food given. Nothing special, the table was dirty. Not a nice experience unfortunately.

Bought the dog and he was hungry ...thought 🤔 mmmm I wonder if a single sausage would be a big ask as they are busy and everything is cooked fresh ...and with no hesitation the lovely lady was of course and the most juicy sausage was served ,also as a gastric band prevents my eating all there lush food I planned on picking off my partner and a side plate arrived ...amazing 1st class and very very friendly ,Jinny and Rosie

Food was cold and service was slow, had to go back to the counter with my panini to ask for the cranberry, lady never even spoke to me, just took the plate off me and walked Away !! rude comes to mind food was cold and not good quality for the price. We were given afternoon tea vouchers as a special treat for our anniversary. We rang to book, said we had vouchers and said that one guest preferred no fish. When the sandwich fingers arrived there were two plain cheese, one cheese and cucumber, two plain boiled ham, one hummus and sun dried tomato, one tuna and one salmon and cream cheese, So eight finger sandwiches all on white bread, not even a variety, which we found unusual. The selection was disappointing to say the least! They certainly weren’t exciting. I can prepare plain cheese and ham at home. But double cheese for me I found uninspired. There wasn’t any pickle or mustard to make them interesting. Although to be fair there might have been had we asked. So if you have dietary requirements I suggest you ask what the choices of sandwiches are before you book. In hindsight I think I should have. Cake and scone selection was good.

Had a walk around and visited for lunch Food was nice when it arrived but took 50 mins just to get a salad was not informed there was a delay on the food and had to rush our meal as the car park was close to expiring poor communication from the staff

We had a mini baby shower here- staff were very helpful. Afternoon tea was good, even the gluten free bread was edible, which made a delightful change.

Apple Tree is a lovely place, staff are great and friendly. Food is lovely, we eat here regularly and would recommend it. Their afternoon tea is amazing we have had them a couple of times.

Had a really lovely breakfast here for fathers day. The Waitress Nicola was excellent. She provided a really friendly and personal service. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Will definitely return x

So good, we visited twice in a weekend! Whilst on a short staycation nearby, we stumbled upon this lovely cafe and soon saw why it is rated by The Guardian as one of the top 10 coffee shops. There is a range of both indoor and outdoor seating to catch a view of the serene marina whilst enjoying a selection of tasty breakfast, brunch and lunch options. The staff provide such a warm, friendly approach and the food was fabulous. I could not recommend this cafe enough, it is a hidden gem. Good vibes, good coffee, food was a bit stale and sad

Most expensive horrible coffee I’ve ever had. Wish I’d read the reviews. £9 for 2 small flat whites. Milk so hot it scalded our mouths and when it was finally warm enough to drink the coffee was not great flavour. But £9 really?? Most expensive coffee I’ve ever had.

Ordered food =Baked potato and a hummus wrap. Took an hour to be served, the staff said they were very busy with orders all at the same time. Hence the long wait. Had to ask 2 times how long we would be waiting. Said 20 mins to half an hour. No apology at any point.

2nd time here with big gap in between. Best thing here is the service and for us that's where it ends . We first went and had food ( I had soup was ok but at the price expected something special). We called yesterday (Sunday) and again service great but we had 2 small bottles of diet Pepsi which came to £7. I like to support the smaller businesses but dont like been taken advantage of . I actually thought we'd purchased the glasses as well.

Been here a few times now. Went for brunch this week for my daughter's birthday and the service was good and food was lovely.

A wonderful cafe, but definitely worth booking a table at weekends or during school holidays as it can get busy.

Nice place for some lunch. The food and atmosphere were nice and staff were friendly. The only downside was that the lemon cake we had wasn't that great, but would definitely come again and try a different cake!

Would recommend but surprised there is only one toilet, and that one is also used by staff.

From the moment me and my nan entered we were welcomed with a lovely friendly smile by lovely staff, who immediately acted upon my nans inability to walk far, sat us at a near the entrance and ensured that this was ok, which it was greatly appreciated. The service of both food and drink was quick and the drinks were actually hot not luke warm like some places. Food was delicious and filling. The members of staff where very professional and so accommodating that when my nan had a coughing fit they came over to ask if she needed water and to make sure she was ok, it’s things like this that make a customer feel so welcome. The coffee lounge was slowly getting busier yet the staff still ensured that everyone in there were still looked after with a smile . There was no waiting to be assisted, very quick service and was very tempted by the gorgeous looking cakes ( we had to of course take some home ). I really couldn’t recommend the apple tree more, from the moment we entered till the moment we left, we felt so welcome. Will definitely be returning again soon! ❤️

We hired the Apple Tree for a private party and it was amazing. The food was delicious and everyone commented on how great it was, the staff couldn’t do enough for you and we felt so looked after. The best venue. Highly recommend ❤️ Thanks Esther, Andy, Nicky and the team xxx

Attended a private function this evening and really enjoyed the atmosphere, friendliness of the staff and food was amazing. We will return!

Very busy on a Monday lunchtime. But still able to get a table after a short wait. Very good food and service.

Waited 16 minutes after being seated for the waitress to take our order, we had obviously been forgotten because we saw her take food orders from 2 other tables before us despite the fact that they were seated after us. The food was OK but expensive for what it was.

A lovely place for a break, food and atmosphere

Our new favourite place. We have eaten at the marina quite a few times but always in the pub. Today we tried the Apple Tree on a spur of the moment decision and so glad we did. We were shown to a table even though we hadn't booked and it was busy. A lovely waitress took our order and drinks were delivered very quickly. We only had about a 10mins wait for the food. We had a great sharing plate which was fresh and well stocked. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the owner took the time for a few minutes conversation even though he was obviously busy. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely place with excellent service and nice view. The only downside is furniture with a little excessive character. Some tables made of old doors and have hinges sticking up, makes it awkward to use. Other than that, it's a very nice place.

Visited on a gorgeous crisp morning in November for a business meeting. Angela and Melissa were working and are always so wonderful and welcoming. Coffee was delicious and it’s just the perfect environment to meet for a meeting or with friends. I may be back later for a slice of cake Thank you team

One of the best full English breakfasts I've had in a long time. The staff were brilliant and very accommodating and the coffee was great too. Would highly recommend and will be returning.

We had a wonderful lunch today - and a superb afternoon tea recently. The food is of excellent quality and served as generous amounts. Requests are met courteously and willingly. The staff are friendly, polite and professional. Thank you all: we will be back again!

The customer service here is shocking. We took our seats and placed our order with a lovely, friendly member of staff. Our drinks arrived but our sandwich order took over 40 minutes and even then, part of our order was missing. I had the 9.75 toasted sourdough with smoked salmon, which was a piece of bread thinly scraped with cream cheese and with one slice of salmon which only half covered the bread. Although this was the most underwhelming food I've ever waited for, this is not my issue. When we enquired about our missing side order of fries we were told that they were on the way but they never materialised. My niece went to make a complaint and was followed back to the table by a member of staff who chose to argue back at her rather than apologising. The staff even made it clear that they were making snide comments about our group. In the end we cancelled the fries but they still put them on the bill. I know this review will receive a defensive, borderline aggressive reply. They will say that we were informed of the length of the delay, that there was a board displaying the wait time, that my niece tried to get the bill waived and that members of our party were rude to the staff. None of this is true. I have never left a negative review of an establishment but this needed to be said.

Went with 4 friends, on our way to the cinema. Had 40 minutes before we needed to be at the cinema, plenty of time for coffee and cake. On arrival, were asked if we'd booked. We said no, but only wanted coffee. There were about 4 tables occupied, so not desperately busy. She spent 5 minutes talking to other members of staff before coming back, showing us to sofa seat, said she'd be back to take our order. 10 minutes later, still sat there waiting to order. I asked a male member of staff who was clearing tables if we could order. A waitress came to take our order. I ordered Americano with oat milk as I have a dairy allergy. The coffee took 10 minutes to arrive, 25 minutes after we had arrived there. Americano with a jug of milk. "Is this oat milk?". No, it's normal milk. Good job I checked, could have had a severe reaction. 2 of us left to sort out cinema tickets, 2 joined the queue to pay. When asked if everything was OK, friend said service was very slow, we had to rush our drinks as we were going to the cinema. Before my friend had got to the door, he heard the man behind the till tell a waitress, in a very derogatory tone "they're complaining about the service because they're going to the cinema ". My friend said heard that. My complaint is justified, service was very slow, and we won't be coming back ". To which the waitress replied "we don't want you in here again ". So terrible service, mixing up orders that could have caused severe medical problems, and rude staff who obviously don't value their customers. Avoid this place. And by the way, we are all pensioners, not a group of rowdy Hells Angels.

We had a really poor experience here today - ruined my Nana’s 87th birthday! The visit started off positive being served by a lovely waitress who took our order. The food took 40 minutes to come which we weren’t told there was a wait, especially as we booked a table not a walk in. When our food arrived 3 portions of fries were missing. We asked if they were coming and the waitress said she’ll check but never came back…. We then asked at the desk who said they were on their way….. 5 minutes later we’re half way through our food (given we’ve all only ordered a sandwiches) we asked where they were again. With little or genuine apology we were told they were coming…. A few minutes passed and no sign of them. The waitress even came back to the table whilst we were eating, in a threatening manor to argue that due to the wait was the reason why they hadn’t arrived…. Rather than a genuine apology she argued with her customers…. We cancelled them but when the the bill came they still hadn’t taken them off. Staff here need some lessons in customer service. It’s embarrassing and other nearby customers commented on the manor of the staff in here too after the interaction at our table. It’s such a shame that poorly behaved staff let this place down. First and only time I shall be going. What’s even more embarrassing is the response I’m sure to get from the owners that’s can’t take feedback!

We had a really poor experience here today - ruined my Nana’s 87th birthday! The visit started off positive being served by a lovely waitress who took our order. The food took 40 minutes to come which we weren’t told there was a wait, especially as we booked a table not a walk in. When our food arrived 3 portions of fries were missing. What a wonderful greeting and high level of friendly ‘can do’ customer service from the lovely staff - in stark contrast to the awful The Waterfront. Lovely food, good range of drinks and a good view of the marina

want to say a massive big thank you to all the staff for a lovely afternoon tea all the staff very friendly and went out of their way to speak to us . food is out of this world and will suggest to other this is the place for afternoon tea will deffinatley be returning to try breakfast/ main menu. Thanks to every one who served us and took time to spreak to us, great atmosphere can not say thank you enough ( tried to put a review on facebook but was unable to, please feel free to copy and paste this review)

A great location, lovely views (even on a blowy wet day). Great service from Imogen. Really delicious full English with good Americano coffee. Excellent coffee and walnut cake. Lovely!

Lovely Cafe, food and service, nice to relax by the waterside

Always a pleasure - beautiful food and staff were attentive. Cannot fault. Been here 3/4 times and have never a bad word to say. I will however say, keep the witty replies coming - it’s now a hobby of mine to come and see them!

We came here for brunch the day after our wedding. The team had kindly put aside some tables for us so we could have everyone together. The quality of the food was excellent, as was the service. It was the perfect place for us and I would definitely recommend/come again!

We went for my husbands birthday lunch, and a lovely day. Food and staff couldn't have done more, and then walked along the canal. Thank you.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. New York Deli and the Tuna. Ordered slightly off menu and very accommodating. Lovely location, recommended.

Quite expensive food and drinks with a lot of outside tables crammed in a small area. Ok for a quick coffee before or after a walk round but a struggle when it's busy which slows service. Food was tasty but didn't feel good value.

In a truly lovely setting I was expecting so much more. Trying to be “Central Perk” but failing massively. Expensive for average. Visit the Marina, just eat elsewhere.

It was not my experience at the cafe that led me to this review, it was the petty posts over social media. Management for some reason think it’s appropriate to name and shame their customers for leaving ”negative” but constructive feedback. I think this is an awfully defensive way to run a business and I feel truly sorry for the customers who have been treated this way. I appreciate it’s not nice to receive this kind of feedback when you work hard, but I’m truly shocked and will not return until management take a good look at how they treat their customers via social media.

First time experience. Get used to waiting. It was my birthday treat. Even deleted the breakfast photo, although food to be fair was good.

We had friends staying from Milton Keynes. We took them to the Apple Tree for breakfast yesterday morning. They loved the atmosphere, service,location and especially the food. My friend tried to leave a £5 tip but the owner refused. She said "we do it because we love our job". This is one of our favourite places to come to.

Had our engagement party here, such a perfect night. Esther and her team were so open to any ideas we had on making the night exactly what we imagined. The food and service couldn’t be faulted and everyone repeatedly said how lovely everything was. Highly recommend!
