Very poor breakfast, food wasn’t hot at all everything was cold or slightly warm, definitely don’t know how to poach eggs, disgusting and plate full of water. Will not be-returning

Unfortunately it was not a good experience. Out for lunch woth a friend and although I specifically told all the staff I was dairy free due to an allergy, they had very little choice on the menu, back and forth with option's which were not suitable, I then chose a wrap however when my food came out presented with cheese on the salad. When I told them they didn't seem to care which was disappointing. Expensive for the food given. Nothing special, the table was dirty. Not a nice experience unfortunately.

Sat here now after a walk coffee and a portion of brown toast with beans and poached eggs absolutely excellent. Very friendly and welcoming staff 👍👍

Bought the dog and he was hungry ...thought 🤔 mmmm I wonder if a single sausage would be a big ask as they are busy and everything is cooked fresh ...and with no hesitation the lovely lady was of course and the most juicy sausage was served ,also as a gastric band prevents my eating all there lush food I planned on picking off my partner and a side plate arrived ...amazing 1st class and very very friendly ,Jinny and Rosie

Food was cold and service was slow, had to go back to the counter with my panini to ask for the cranberry, lady never even spoke to me, just took the plate off me and walked Away !! rude comes to mind food was cold and not good quality for the price. The only plus was the person who took our order and young man was lovely and friendly

We were given afternoon tea vouchers as a special treat for our anniversary. We rang to book, said we had vouchers and said that one guest preferred no fish. When the sandwich fingers arrived there were two plain cheese, one cheese and cucumber, two plain boiled ham, one hummus and sun dried tomato, one tuna and one salmon and cream cheese, So eight finger sandwiches all on white bread, not even a variety, which we found unusual. The selection was disappointing to say the least! They certainly weren’t exciting. I can prepare plain cheese and ham at home. But double cheese for me I found uninspired. There wasn’t any pickle or mustard to make them interesting. Although to be fair there might have been had we asked. So if you have dietary requirements I suggest you ask what the choices of sandwiches are before you book. In hindsight I think I should have. Cake and scone selection was good.

Had a walk around and visited for lunch Food was nice when it arrived but took 50 mins just to get a salad was not informed there was a delay on the food and had to rush our meal as the car park was close to expiring poor communication from the staff

We had a mini baby shower here- staff were very helpful. Afternoon tea was good, even the gluten free bread was edible, which made a delightful change.

Apple Tree is a lovely place, staff are great and friendly. Food is lovely, we eat here regularly and would recommend it. Their afternoon tea is amazing we have had them a couple of times.

So good, we visited twice in a weekend! Whilst on a short staycation nearby, we stumbled upon this lovely cafe and soon saw why it is rated by The Guardian as one of the top 10 coffee shops. There is a range of both indoor and outdoor seating to catch a view of the serene marina whilst enjoying a selection of tasty breakfast, brunch and lunch options. The staff provide such a warm, friendly approach and the food was fabulous. I could not recommend this cafe enough, it is a hidden gem. Had a really lovely breakfast here for fathers day. The Waitress Nicola was excellent. She provided a really friendly and personal service. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Will definitely return x

Most expensive horrible coffee I’ve ever had. Wish I’d read the reviews. £9 for 2 small flat whites. Milk so hot it scalded our mouths and when it was finally warm enough to drink the coffee was not great flavour. But £9 really?? Most expensive coffee I’ve ever had.

Good vibes, good coffee, food was a bit stale and sad

Ordered food =Baked potato and a hummus wrap. Took an hour to be served, the staff said they were very busy with orders all at the same time. Hence the long wait. Had to ask 2 times how long we would be waiting. Said 20 mins to half an hour. No apology at any point.

2nd time here with big gap in between. Best thing here is the service and for us that's where it ends . We first went and had food ( I had soup was ok but at the price expected something special). We called yesterday (Sunday) and again service great but we had 2 small bottles of diet Pepsi which came to £7. I like to support the smaller businesses but dont like been taken advantage of . I actually thought we'd purchased the glasses as well.

Been here a few times now. Went for brunch this week for my daughter's birthday and the service was good and food was lovely.

A wonderful cafe, but definitely worth booking a table at weekends or during school holidays as it can get busy.

Nice place for some lunch. The food and atmosphere were nice and staff were friendly. The only downside was that the lemon cake we had wasn't that great, but would definitely come again and try a different cake!

Would recommend but surprised there is only one toilet, and that one is also used by staff.

From the moment me and my nan entered we were welcomed with a lovely friendly smile by lovely staff, who immediately acted upon my nans inability to walk far, sat us at a near the entrance and ensured that this was ok, which it was greatly appreciated. The service of both food and drink was quick and the drinks were actually hot not luke warm like some places. Food was delicious and filling. The members of staff where very professional and so accommodating that when my nan had a coughing fit they came over to ask if she needed water and to make sure she was ok, it’s things like this that make a customer feel so welcome. The coffee lounge was slowly getting busier yet the staff still ensured that everyone in there were still looked after with a smile . There was no waiting to be assisted, very quick service and was very tempted by the gorgeous looking cakes ( we had to of course take some home ). I really couldn’t recommend the apple tree more, from the moment we entered till the moment we left, we felt so welcome. Will definitely be returning again soon! ❤️

We hired the Apple Tree for a private party and it was amazing. The food was delicious and everyone commented on how great it was, the staff couldn’t do enough for you and we felt so looked after. The best venue. Highly recommend ❤️ Thanks Esther, Andy, Nicky and the team xxx

Very busy on a Monday lunchtime. But still able to get a table after a short wait. Very good food and service.

Waited 16 minutes after being seated for the waitress to take our order, we had obviously been forgotten because we saw her take food orders from 2 other tables before us despite the fact that they were seated after us. The food was OK but expensive for what it was.

A lovely place for a break, food and atmosphere

Our new favourite place. We have eaten at the marina quite a few times but always in the pub. Today we tried the Apple Tree on a spur of the moment decision and so glad we did. We were shown to a table even though we hadn't booked and it was busy. A lovely waitress took our order and drinks were delivered very quickly. We only had about a 10mins wait for the food. We had a great sharing plate which was fresh and well stocked. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the owner took the time for a few minutes conversation even though he was obviously busy. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely place with excellent service and nice view. The only downside is furniture with a little excessive character. Some tables made of old doors and have hinges sticking up, makes it awkward to use. Other than that, it's a very nice place.

Visited on a gorgeous crisp morning in November for a business meeting. Angela and Melissa were working and are always so wonderful and welcoming. Coffee was delicious and it’s just the perfect environment to meet for a meeting or with friends. I may be back later for a slice of cake Thank you team

Had a lovely afternoon tea, catered for dietary requirements. Service was great and staff was lovely. Food was also lovely and it's in a great location.

One of the best full English breakfasts I've had in a long time. The staff were brilliant and very accommodating and the coffee was great too. Would highly recommend and will be returning.

We had a wonderful lunch today - and a superb afternoon tea recently. The food is of excellent quality and served as generous amounts. Requests are met courteously and willingly. The staff are friendly, polite and professional. Thank you all: we will be back again!

Went with 4 friends, on our way to the cinema. Had 40 minutes before we needed to be at the cinema, plenty of time for coffee and cake. On arrival, were asked if we'd booked. We said no, but only wanted coffee. There were about 4 tables occupied, so not desperately busy. She spent 5 minutes talking to other members of staff before coming back, showing us to sofa seat, said she'd be back to take our order. 10 minutes later, still sat there waiting to order. I asked a male member of staff who was clearing tables if we could order. A waitress came to take our order. I ordered Americano with oat milk as I have a dairy allergy. The coffee took 10 minutes to arrive, 25 minutes after we had arrived there. Americano with a jug of milk. "Is this oat milk?". No, it's normal milk. Good job I checked, could have had a severe reaction. 2 of us left to sort out cinema tickets, 2 joined the queue to pay. When asked if everything was OK, friend said service was very slow, we had to rush our drinks as we were going to the cinema. Before my friend had got to the door, he heard the man behind the till tell a waitress, in a very derogatory tone "they're complaining about the service because they're going to the cinema ". My friend said heard that. My complaint is justified, service was very slow, and we won't be coming back ". To which the waitress replied "we don't want you in here again ". So terrible service, mixing up orders that could have caused severe medical problems, and rude staff who obviously don't value their customers. Avoid this place. And by the way, we are all pensioners, not a group of rowdy Hells Angels.

The customer service here is shocking. We took our seats and placed our order with a lovely, friendly member of staff. Our drinks arrived but our sandwich order took over 40 minutes and even then, part of our order was missing. I had the 9.75 toasted sourdough with smoked salmon, which was a piece of bread thinly scraped with cream cheese and with one slice of salmon which only half covered the bread. Although this was the most underwhelming food I've ever waited for, this is not my issue. When we enquired about our missing side order of fries we were told that they were on the way but they never materialised. My niece went to make a complaint and was followed back to the table by a member of staff who chose to argue back at her rather than apologising. The staff even made it clear that they were making snide comments about our group. In the end we cancelled the fries but they still put them on the bill. I know this review will receive a defensive, borderline aggressive reply. They will say that we were informed of the length of the delay, that there was a board displaying the wait time, that my niece tried to get the bill waived and that members of our party were rude to the staff. None of this is true. I have never left a negative review of an establishment but this needed to be said.

We asked if they were coming and the waitress said she’ll check but never came back…. We then asked at the desk who said they were on their way….. 5 minutes later we’re half way through our food (given we’ve all only ordered a sandwiches) we asked where they were again. With little or genuine apology we were told they were coming…. A few minutes passed and no sign of them. The waitress even came back to the table whilst we were eating, in a threatening manor to argue that due to the wait was the reason why they hadn’t arrived…. Rather than a genuine apology she argued with her customers…. We cancelled them but when the the bill came they still hadn’t taken them off. Staff here need some lessons in customer service. It’s embarrassing and other nearby customers commented on the manor of the staff in here too after the interaction at our table. It’s such a shame that poorly behaved staff let this place down. First and only time I shall be going.

A great location, lovely views (even on a blowy wet day). Great service from Imogen. Really delicious full English with good Americano coffee. Excellent coffee and walnut cake. Lovely!

Lovely Cafe, food and service, nice to relax by the waterside

We came here for brunch the day after our wedding. The team had kindly put aside some tables for us so we could have everyone together. The quality of the food was excellent, as was the service. It was the perfect place for us and I would definitely recommend/come again!

Always a pleasure - beautiful food and staff were attentive. Cannot fault. Been here 3/4 times and have never a bad word to say. I will however say, keep the witty replies coming - it’s now a hobby of mine to come and see them!

Quite expensive food and drinks with a lot of outside tables crammed in a small area. Ok for a quick coffee before or after a walk round but a struggle when it's busy which slows service. Food was tasty but didn't feel good value.

In a truly lovely setting I was expecting so much more. Trying to be “Central Perk” but failing massively. Expensive for average. Visit the Marina, just eat elsewhere.

It was not my experience at the cafe that led me to this review, it was the petty posts over social media. Management for some reason think it’s appropriate to name and shame their customers for leaving ”negative” but constructive feedback. I think this is an awfully defensive way to run a business and I feel truly sorry for the customers who have been treated this way. I appreciate it’s not nice to receive this kind of feedback when you work hard, but I’m truly shocked and will not return until management take a good look at how they treat their customers via social media.

First time experience. Get used to waiting. It was my birthday treat. Even deleted the breakfast photo, although food to be fair was good.

We had friends staying from Milton Keynes. We took them to the Apple Tree for breakfast yesterday morning. They loved the atmosphere, service,location and especially the food. My friend tried to leave a £5 tip but the owner refused. She said "we do it because we love our job". This is one of our favourite places to come to.

Had our engagement party here, such a perfect night. Esther and her team were so open to any ideas we had on making the night exactly what we imagined. The food and service couldn’t be faulted and everyone repeatedly said how lovely everything was. Highly recommend!

What a lovely gem of a place situated on Barton Marina, rain or sunshine inside or outside you can’t go wrong, I have used here several times not one for writing reviews as if I ever have a problem I prefer to speak to the staff or manager or owner on the day, however I’m writing this as I always have a great experience whether it be a coffee or food too I have ordered various things from the menu and always been happy yes sometimes they can be rushed off their feet depending on the day time or weather but it has a great following and a pleasant atmosphere keep up the good work team apple tree !

Disabled toilet entrance is rubbish can not get wheelchair round in such a small opening and baby chairs in the way sorry will not come again

Thank you, as always lovely food. This time a salmon bagel for lunch, loads of salmon, wonderful. Fabulous lady who was so kind and helpful, such a lovely welcome too.

My visit was in May (sorry for slow review). My Eccles cake was not its best but the gentleman that I spoke to was incredibly lovely and understanding. He made sure that I had a great pudding. Cannot fault the service, thankyou.

Visited recently for the first time and as a first meal out as a couple in years and whilst we had issues with the service in person at the price point offered, these issues were delt with face to face on exiting the lounge. On that merit alone, this review would be somewhere between Average and very good. What has prompted this terrible review (and my creation of an account here altogether) was being told of the sheer disrespect shown by the "The Apple Tree Social Media Team" who's stance on negative reviews seems to be deny, belittle, and discredit any patrons who have the unfortunate visit wherein service does fall below expectations. I would be willing to overlook the initial bad experience for a 2nd (and hopefully excellent) visit as I can see the potential for a brilliant meal out here; however after seeing responses made to other unfortunate diners, I think I'll give it a miss in lieu of a restaurant willing to listen to feedback without making customers feel borrower-sized.

Came in here on a hot day wanting a nice iced coffee to takeaway to cool us down in the heat. However, having stood at the till for at least 10 minutes, we had failed to be even acknowledged by the lady on the till who just stood there talking to a friend; making eye contact and still choosing to ignore us. finally another member of staff acknowledged us and told us we were in fact waiting in the correct space just the lady on the till was talking to a friend rather than continuing to serve customers. After waiting another 5 minutes just stood in a queue - we decided just to go to poms and the drinks are worth the extra money anyway

Slow slow and awful food! We arrived and sat down promptly. Waited 20 mins to order, the cafe wasn’t even 50% full. When ordered had to wait 40 mins. Panini was dry and wasn’t even a panini, nachos were burnt to the bowl. Milkshakes were packet milkshakes. For £30+ for this it was a disgrace!

Beautiful coffee lounge, I definitely give it the place 10/10 for that . The service you get I would say 4/10 as they scared me and my partner as the server was just standing there when both turned around so made us jump. Whe ordered gluten free toast and a full English breakfast and a caramel soya latte and a vanilla latte . So we was give the the wrong drinks as my parter was given the vanilla coffee which had normal mile which she cant have . So she not happy about that as she drank some and the toast wasn't the best and the butter that cam with it has no taste and the full English if that what you call it as it did not come with every that was stated on the menu as it was missing parts of it . The ash brown wasn't cooked as it was stick frozen in middle and everything was room temperature or cold and the poached egg was over cooked and no flavor and mushroom was watery and they use cheap flavours Beans and like I said it was missing part of the breakfast like the black pudding which I was looking forward to eating . I believe they are more about appearance then the food . So I be giving them a miss in the future and also they are over priced for what you get

Brilliant cafe by the canalside food excellent, staff friendly & helpful

I wish tripadvisor had a 'good' rating rather than 'average' or 'very good'. This place has a lovely location and a good design with comfy seating. The loo was well equipped for people who may have needs and was easily accessible. The coffee tasted like it was freshly ground and the cappuccinos came with a glass of water. Service was prompt and polite and when we asked for an item to be changed it was without fuss. The item that was changed was a scone which I thought was a bit dense - but I am not complaining about that. I have scored it as 'average' as that is what I consider a 'normal' standard to be. I wish I had the chance to say 'good' but would not go as far as to say 'very good'. I hope the owner doesn't feel offended by this as no offence is meant and I have read the replies that they can give to people who leave bad reviews.

The service was terrible, waited half an hour for two paninis, when it eventually came it was wrong, then wrong again the second time. Eventually when the order was correct it was cold.

Been waiting 40 minutes only to find the order as been lost, along with drinks, service whilst usually good was very poor had to beckon a waitress who checked and we had to re order but could not due to kitchen closes @ 1600.. still had a free cake and 7up.. not the full English i was expecting but these things happen Happy Easter everyone. I am not sure if you have read my review with an incorrect view point but I don’t believe this to have been a poor review, in fact the opposite confirming how you did handle the situation. To confirm, at no point was anyone berated, In fact we laughed a little at the situation with both your lovely front of staff waitress and the lady who came over to apologise and offer the cake! There was in fact a couple on there with the owner at the time discussing their wedding plans and I am sure that if I was in fact as you put it berating and being offensive to the point in being asked to leave that the owner (or lady in charge) would have walked the 6ft to our table to discuss the matter! I am not sure if you got me mixed up with another customer so I will give you the benefit of the doubt on this occasion, however I am sure that being a public place you have plenty of CCTV cameras which can be accessed to confirm the situation, we were on the high table by the window not at all causing offence to anyone else, we laughed with the lady as we left, smiled and wished everyone a good day! Now, as I say I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt but would suggest that next time when a table has been sat there for 50 mins (evidence with a lovely photograph of the view) without a drink or food; perhaps that could raise a question or two, but also when our foot order was retaken the waitress was not aware that the food service stopped at 4pm, food for thought maybe, but as a closing statement I’d ask you to perhaps reconsider your response to my review once you have watched the CCTV. Now to both the waitress and the lady who also came to assist, they were both courteous and a credit to your business, hopefully they are treated with more respect than this review! Have a great day! Given you seem determined to suggest that I acted without respect, I kindly request to be provided with a copy of your CCTV, this I am sure will settle the matter once and for all. time at your premises was between 15:39 and 16:46, sat at one of the high tables facing the marina.. Visited today at lunch time, lovely food, really nice setting. Service was a little slow, but understandable with being a bank holiday and the place being full. Staff were very pleasant, when our order was missing something, we asked and it was sorted straight away. Loving the responses to negative reviews as well, have been having a chuckle about them.

On a wet dreary day this had a lovely atmosphere for a casual lunch. Food and drinks were excellent and service quick with a smile. All helped to cheer up our day.

This is a first-rate coffee lounge. We had coffee there on the 20th of March and then returned for lunch the same day. The decor inside is unusual and really interesting. The food was excellent, and the service was quick . The staff are extremely pleasant and polite. We will certainly return as soon as we can.

Walked in and waited to be seated. Staff refused to acknowledge us or even make eye contact. We waited a few minutes. It was getting embarrassing. Member of staff said we had four booked but it was only three. It seemed to be a problem....

Get seated at a ridiculously low sofa in the corner and clearly forgotten about. Another couple who came in after us, seated at an actual table, more suited for dining at. That same couple then had their order taken, as we'd clearly been forgotten about. Walked out after that with no acknowledgement from anyone working. Poorly managed establishment.

Having moved to the area we have had several lunches & afternoon teas at the apple tree all of which have been delightful. Food always fresh & tasty. Service from all the staff is always super friendly!. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited today food was very tasty however service was very slow, it took 20 minutes for a Diet Coke and lemonade to arrive and 45 minutes from order for a panini to arrive, I understand there are people in front of us however 45 minutes is abit long. The staff also didn’t seem to know what number the tables were and wondered around aimlessly until someone said the food was theirs. Would visit again if the service improved!

I booked afternoon tea for 6 of us. All my friends commented on the good size of the sandwiches and all round good value for money. The staff were very accommodating and one friend really enjoyed her gluten free vegetarian tea. She said often gluten...

We visited yesterday for my uncle Peters wake with all the family and friends. The staff were exceptional and the food was fantastic they made us all feel at ease after a heart felt afternoon

Really poor service here. First and only in the queue for over five mins, acknowledged eventually before the staff didn’t speak to us, served the people behind because they had the correct party size for their only available table and didn’t say a word to us. I advised them that their service was shi* and walked out. Shan’t bother there again when there was a nice, quiet cafe with better food and cheaper drinks just next door. Update following management response: Seems a little harsh to belittle your customers and indeed your competition next door. And it also speaks volumes that you have no idea who the customer was as you said we visited on the Sunday, which is wrong, is this just a stock response to bad reviews? I apologise for my use of language. Having not been spoken to or acknowledged when there were plenty of staff busying themselves around us to then be overlooked, literally shouted over, to the group behind I found infuriating. And for reference, the only child around was my own in a pram which I half suspect is the reason we were not welcomed inside. I’m sure management will come back again with another smart response but I implore you to exercise a little inward reflection to understand how your service was poor.

Loved this place. We’ve been a couple of times for drinks before, on the sofa overlooking the marina and has always been great, but had lunch this time too. The jacket potato chilli and cheese was the best I’ve had out ever, loads of filling...

Lovely place to chill with a coffee and a cake. Highly recommended

Lemon cake was pre packed and tasteless. Drinks order was forgotten so had to ask waitress for our drinks. All orders bought out waitresses had no idea which table to go to. Noticed a couple next to use with overdone poached eggs. Not a good experience

Very pleasant afternoon coffee And a bite to eat

We had a New York Deli sandwich on seeded bread with homemade coleslaw and salad. It was great, the bread was absolutely fresh and delicious, almost too much for us. The chairs were so comfortable and the lounge was so airy although they were quite full.
