Fantastic service and brilliant food, staff were absolutely faultless and brilliantly attentive. Food was probably 9/10 with the only issue being the lack of vegetarian options. Highly recommend coming here!

We stayed for one night at Duncombe Arms in Walnut House, our only regret was not staying longer. The room was beautifully presented, had a really comfortable bed and step in large shower. We had breakfast and dinner at The Duncombe Arms and it was all so tasty. Fresh baked bread and croissants for breakfast with a choice of home cooked options. Dinner was brilliant, we had lovely fish and chips and a raspberry tart for desert. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and very good with providing allergy information on the food. Would absolutely recommend!

We visited for the first time yesterday. The setting is beautiful and building is well decorated. Service was efficient and friendly, and the food was great. I thought portion sizes were generous, and the food was delicious. Very good selection of drinks and it was a nice touch that the menu had a recommended wine for each dish. The price was reasonable and fair for the food quality and location. Lastly, the place has a good vibe. The lay out is very clever as it creates a nice mix of atmosphere in different sections, depending on your mood. I would definitely go again.

Recently recommend the Duncombe to a close friend of mine for her dads 60th and remembered we hadn’t reviewed following our last stay back in May! Weve stayed at the Duncombe on various occasions over the years and loved each and every time but never reviewed. Visited in May for a child free birthday treat for me! Stayed in the junior suite which was spotless and with the most stunning views to the countryside! Our food was exceptional along with the service and wonderful wine recommendations. The breakfast was also perfect! Thank you as always Duncombe arms, we will continue to recommend and revisit! Charlene and Ric ☺️

Such a lovely pub, great setting and interior. However service was dreadful. We were a table of 4 on a Saturday lunch and every drinks order was wrong- diet coke when a normal one was ordered, pint of ale when a shandy was ordered, coffee came and we had to ask for some milk etc. There were lots of other things which just lacked attention to detail for a pub of this standard. The food was also disappointing. I echo other reviews which say the food is poor and is lacking flavour and finesse. I really think they either need to up the quality of the food or reduce the price because it was not worth the £100 price tag we paid per couple.

Booked the table for 7.15 p.m. this evening and we arrived twenty five minutes early. We were not shown to our table until 8 o’clock and our starters arrived at 9.00 p.m.. (over two hours later!). It’s a lovely venue and the menu is very appealing but on this occasion our special occasion celebration was ruined. We only had time for two courses and our bill for four adults was £219 which included 10% service charge. We have enjoyed good meals here in the past but take my advice and avoid Saturday evenings if you are planning to visit. It was our 56th wedding anniversary! Our waitress said that everyone had arrived at the same time which is a bit odd when the booking procedure is so precise!

A birthday nightmare, The Duncombe Arms is quite expensive which would not be a problem if the quality of the food were satisfactory. Tried a rib eye steak, £33.00 for a steak and chips, no trimmings, just steak and chips both of which were of extremely poor quality. I must confess I have never had a ribeye with hard chunks of fat (or bone) embedded in the meat but I have now consequently half of what was served was left on the plate. What was edible, I found to be bland and tasteless. The chips were a challenge to say the least, they were extremely hard and tasted of cooking oil, two of the chips I tried to cut ended up flying across the table, even the steak knife found them difficult to cope with. A mild complaint to the management was treated with complete indifference and ignored. Another in the party had a ‘Cornish sole’ which looked very inviting when served, comments were it was delicious so all did not seem to be a disaster however the sole took its revenge in the middle of the night, the feedback was not so favourable the next day. We do tend to eat out quite a bit and this was supposed to have been a birthday special unfortunately a birthday disaster. Never again, plenty of other good reasonably priced eating places in the area, no need to experience poor quality food and poor customer management.

We booked to celebrate my wife's birthday. On arrival the 4 of us had a drink at the bar before being taken to our table. The service throughout was brilliant from everyone. There is a very relaxed atmosphere at the Duncombe Arms, with a nice "buzz" as you might expect on a Saturday night. Food menu is restricted (but with good choice). The wine menu on the other hand is the size of a small book! Food is very well presented and tasty. Two of the standout dishes were the marmite covered cauliflower and the Sole. We couldn't resist ordering the apple tart (takes 45 mins to cook). We had 2 between us but could have had just one! Overall the food was great, the service exceptional but I resist scoring 5 out of 5 due to the cost ...£300 for 4. I have attached the bill, you can make up your own mind! Well worth a visit

We stayed here for three nights celebrating an anniversary. We enjoyed all of it. Food and drinks were interesting and outstanding. Staff were without exception friendly, efficient and well trained. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped - REALLY comfortable bed. I had misunderstood one feature of the website. I only booked a table for one night as I assumed that the bar menu would be served in a bar and that I would not need to book for that. In fact you can choose from any of the available menus wherever you sit. There is no distinct bar area. Fortunately, space was found for us.

We visiting on Valentine’s Day for a night away and dinner. The tasting menu here is excellent - I wish I’d got more photos. Highlights were the venison (perfectly cooked, beautifully balanced with sweet onion, mustard mash and a red wine and juniper sauce) and the edible chocolate box desert. Their Tempura oysters were perfectly crispy and something I’m going to have more of! The paired wine was one of the best I’ve had, and generous servings too. 👍. Full English breakfast was beautifully presented with the best quality ingredients. The rooms are big and spacious with well appointed bathrooms and spectacular views over the fields. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be back.

For experience vs price i initially wanted to give 2 stars. We'd wanted to visit for dinner for over a year. The menu looked great. A birthday finally provided the opportunity. Great place. Nice location. Well appointed, and warm on a Winters night. Staff were fab. They're the good points. Disappointingly the food was not so good. It all sounded great on the menu - but didn't live up to the hype. All of us thought it was a bit bland. Whisky sauce which may have seen the bottle but not sure about any the contents. Only the smallest splash of gravy to lubricate the suet pudding. Not sure if anything was seasoned. Crepes Suzette that had no hint of any Grand Marnier - and tbh the texture of the crepes was not like homemade ones. Tough Venison. Everything was just....hmmm. And quite small portions. We ate slowly to make it last more than a couple of minutes. So ..... we went home for supper. For £20 at many pubs you can find good grub and plenty of it. Not Cordon Bleu - but you know what you're getting and it can be good. At £45 per head this food did not pass the test and left us unsatisfied and disappointed. Yes - wholesome food - but some way off the mark of hitting the hype. Maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen - but with a bill of £190 - there aren't any excuses.

This gastro-pub has been a favourite of ours for a few years, our go-to for special occasions, with superb food that's a bit different, consistently tasty and beautifully presented, and very good service, so I was really looking forward to Friday evening with friends that I hadn't seen for a while. But what a disappointment! To start with, the young waiter totally omitted to ask me and my female friend what we would like to drink while waiting to order, though he had asked the two men and brought their drinks, so we had to call him back. I requested a rhubarb and ginger gin with slim-line tonic, but he brought a rhubarb gin with a bottle of ginger ale!! I pointed out the mistake, and he did replace the mixer, but not the gin, but I let that rest. Three of us ordered the pate-en-croute with pickles starter, but it was just a thin slice of what looked like terrine in a rather uncrusty crust with a few gherkins etc and some very sharp mustard. The "pate", more like pork pie really, was bland and tasteless. The lamb shank meal was ok, but far from as special as I had become used to at this establishment, and I wouldn't have known there was any whisky in the sauce if I hadn't read the menu. The dessert, a chocolate mille-feuille with sorbet, was also tasteless and very ordinary. On previous occasions, the owner has visited each table to check on how the meal was, etc, but we didn't see him once, so I do wonder if the place has changed hands again, or if there is a different chef. The owners had been hoping to achieve a Michelin star, and on earlier experiences I would have said they totally deserved it, but not going on this meal and service. After this latest experience, we won't be rushing back again, sadly.

Thought we would call on our way back from golf for a drink, just the four of us. We had two glasses of wine, two pints and two bags of crips - £39.50. We queried this as we assumed she had put the drinks in twice but no it was correct as the wine was £11.50 per glass. I really do not object to paying a high price for a glass of wine if the wine is memorable but sadly this was run of the mill stuff and left your palette as quickly as I have known. Neck Oil was nearly £7 per pint. Whilst it has a nice interior we will not be returning as alternative local pubs offer much better value for a better drink.

The Dunk is still worth a detour, despite the many performative punters who gravitate here. Well considered menus and wine list, where value can be found amongst the pricier options. Nice to see a talented chef offering fantastic taramasalata for a fiver…and some of the best gougere you’ll taste outside France. Give me a buckets of both. Constructive criticism offered - watch yer loos, which are at risk of becoming a little too french (on the nose), the tiring decor, and the poor buggers who get the table in the corridor (not us).

We ate here last night, a group of seven of us. The food was very underwhelming for the price, no seasoning, no vegetables served or offered when we ordered. I would not recommend this to anyone I'm afraid , save your money and go elsewhere. Only one vegan option on the menu. I had the sole which was breaded whole with the bones in, it was very dry and tasteless. I've heard so much hype about this place but it was disappointing food especially for the money they are charging. My mum had the pork which was very fatty.

An absolute gem. Despite not having a reservation for lunch on an obviously very busy day, we were very warmly welcomed and accommodated at a suitable table. The food was worth every penny. Yes, some of the menu may be more expensive than some are used to paying but the quality of ingredients, service and surroundings easily made it worthwhile. We loved the relaxed vibe from the experienced, knowledgeable and professional staff. For those with limited mobility there is a ramp from the carpark to the bar and also a separate one for the restaurant. Even if you have to make a big detour, do try out this restaurant. We can't wait to go back, but 5 hours plus drive each way means we may have to wait a while.

We really loved our stay here. The service was excellent and the food well-deserving of the Michelin bib gourmande accolade. There is a comprehensive wine list to suit all tastes and pockets. Breakfasts were delicious as well, and I especially appreciated the croissants. We had a few fantastic cocktails and some very well kept beer I may add and were then shown to our table by a very pleasant waitress. We booked this last minute, so were not surprised to be taken to the smallest table in the room, next to the kichen fan and a terrible draft from under the seat, of which were the only occupants. We can't fault the food, but having...

Delightful lunch today at Duncombe Arms. Staff were wonderful, surroundings really pleasant and food absolutely delicious. I’m told the raspberry soufflé was out of this world. I had to make do with an espresso martini cause my Cornish sole had filled me up. Highly recommended.

The menu has changed which is good, however when coming you have to call every time to ensure they are actually serving food, as been turned away a couple of times as they were not serving food Anyway we went in May 2023, the food was fantastic as usual, all home cooked, absolutely top notch. The Bangor burger has changed and is even bigger, in fact it defeated me I could not eat it Very reasonable on the prices, overall excellent and will come back time and time again
