Visited Queenie’s Vintage Tearoom today for lunch. Food and drinks were excellent. The owner is friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Our waitress was great and everything was spot on with our order. We spotted that they have evening events and will definitely be back for one. Overall a lovely place to visit 😁

Extremely Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food – Serious Concerns About Halal Integrity and i advice all the people eating halal to not get there We visited Street Souvlaki recently to celebrate my wife's birthday, after being informed that they serve halal food. Before ordering, I specifically asked the young man serving us whether the lamb and chicken were halal and prepared separately. He reassured me more than once that they were indeed halal and that separate utensils were used to avoid any cross-contamination. The food itself was of good quality and tasted nice — we were initially quite happy with the experience. However, as I went to the counter to pay, I witnessed something that left me shocked and disappointed. One of the staff members was cutting chicken with the same electric blade that had just been used to cut pork. I watched carefully to make sure, and indeed, he returned to cutting pork using the same blade. When I raised this issue, the staff member involved didn't speak English, so the younger gentleman who had served us tried to help. He insisted, "No, no, we use separate knives," but I had to point out that it wasn’t a knife — the staff member had used the same electric blade, which clearly violated the promise of separation. The older gentleman began speaking in another language, and instead of addressing the issue, he simply told me not to pay. I made several attempts to pay anyway, because the issue wasn’t about getting a free meal — it was about the principle and the lack of respect for halal requirements. Despite that, I was told to “just wait” in a very rude tone, as if I was causing an inconvenience. Eventually, I was met with further rudeness and told, “It’s not our problem, what do you want us to do? We’re giving it to you for free.” That response was absolutely unacceptable. It’s not about the cost — it’s about contamination, honesty, and respect for dietary requirements. If a restaurant cannot ensure that halal food is genuinely prepared and served in a halal-compliant way, they should not advertise it as such. Had I known this, I would have never eaten there. This was a deeply disappointing and disrespectful experience, especially on what was meant to be a special occasion. I hope they take this matter seriously, because serving halal food comes with responsibility — and that trust should never be taken lightly.

Although I am local, have driven past The Village Bakery for years, this was the first time I have visited this delightful establishment. I went with my brother, before going on to the Warners on Hayling. We both ordered the breakfast and were not disappointed. It was cooked to perfection and was enjoyed with enthusiasm. It was quite busy, with the majority of the customers being mostly in the building trade. This is always a good sign. Thank you Village Bakery, although it was my first visit, it certainly won’t be my last.

We were on holiday in the area and decided to visit this restaurant on a very cold Tuesday evening in early March,so understandably it was quiet and we were the only ones in the restaurant ,.Everything from the Goat Rogan gosht , lamb Korma and Ali gobi plus starters were cooked to perfection and we felt this was a genuine Indian experience .The staff were very friendly and welcoming and if we get the chance would definitely revisit

We have visited a few times and can honestly say the service, food and drinks are all great. Jamie, the Manager, is the best host… nothing is too much trouble. The Sunday lunch is great , and would recommend the pigs in blankets & cauli cheese as they are both delicious. I look forward to the summer when we can enjoy the garden in the sun. Well done Jamie & team xx

I visited with my mum Friday as a last minute meal, we were the only people eating in at the time as we arrived just as he opened & the owner kindly honoured a taste card offer & was hospitable, attentive & humble. He shared with use stories about the nature of business after Covid & some upsetting criticisms he had received which people weaponised against him in the form of reviews rather than giving him the opportunity to address & rectify whatever issues they may have had. I enjoyed my food, he altered my order especially for me & my only drawback was the korma my mum had was a little watery for my liking, however, she loved it, so taste is all totally subjective. He is the sort of owner that most certainly deserves honest custom as he cares about his customers & wants them to have a positive experience, unlike a lot of other restaurants I've had extensive experiences with. Bear in mind, Hayling is mostly a sleepy town, he's a credit to the community desiring them to have a positive experience.

Facing the west side of the church in the center of town, this is a friendly local with a reasonable selection of well kept ales from Fuller's with a guest sometimes. Several lagers and ciders also on tap. Food served lunchtimes. Garden / smoking area to the rear. Sports, particularly rugby, on the telly. Music / disco on occasional weekends.

Having previously had a good experience, my 90 year old mum and I went for lunch. We ordered prawn salads with falafel and humus from the menu. The last two items were missing on our plates, but when queried we were told that nobody ordered those so they didn't have any! We asked for an alternative and were given half a slice of bread each! I then found a hair in my salad, but when I reported this, I was told that the kitchen staff had dark hair so it wasn't theirs! I was too stunned to reply! Then I was told we couldn't expect a refund, because the hair wasn't theirs. I explained we didn't want a refund, just an apology. Never again!
