The food is exceptional. Doesn't get better.

Very nice pub, and food was good. Gutted no crackling with pork but veg was nice. £5.50 for such a small dish of cauliflower cheese was not value. Staff were lovely and amazing. Few things that lets it down, was it was freezing the part we were in such a big room with a radiator opposite. Needs one where the fireplace is. Also poorly lit.

I would rate the food 6/5 if I could. A mix of classics and regional dishes - we finished every bite. We will return when next nearby, encourage you to visit too!

It was a lovely sunny day. Good enough to sit outside. The 4 of us were meeting and chose The Stag Inn because it was a 'halfway house'. We had drinks and food in the garden. The staff were lovely. They brought us a large brolly for the table - its first outing of the year as the spider verified! The beers and wines and food were great. We had steaks and sea bass, but the 'special' sweet and sour chicken was that special. Even so, we would go again and recommend you do to. Check opening times though. We got there at 12 for lunch and they were closing at 2pm on our Friday.

First visit…hoped to eat but no tables available! Ordered two drinks (very little change out of £20 eeek!) and asked to look at menu & if they could let us know if any cancellations? Clumsy husband knocked his beer over & tbf it was mopped up graciously & quickly - at these prices would have been nice to be offered to top it up? Nope…as we weren’t paying another £20 for two more drinks & no one had come over to suggest we might want to eat at the bar or outside (heard this option being offered to a caller on the phone) we finished one drink and the dregs of the spilled beer & left….menu looks interesting & from research (new to area) looks like the only place for miles around offering more than the usual ‘pub grub’ Would have loved to try it but probably won’t be back…

The Interior was very nice and good layout but the service was the worst I have had for a while. My partner and I went there for Valentines day on the Saturday, I had to call multiple times to check that they had taken our pre order down and each time we called they weren't sure or said no and then would call us later with a different answer. It was very unorganised. We waited 15 minutes for a drinks menu then we had to ask for one. Then waited 40 minutes for our drinks, that we had to ask to order. Our starters ended coming out before our drinks. I had to ask for my complimentary bread roll with my main as this never came. My partner asked for another drink and the waiter huffed at us and we asked if he was okay and he said 'its been a busy weekend'. I understand this but you don't huff at your customers. We felt like we where a problem to them and an inconvenience. Unfortunately we are local and would have gone again with family but we have been put off by this and wont return for the service but the food was very nice. Thank god for the food tasting good otherwise we would have walked out.

Fantastic pub with lovely food. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Fantastic atmosphere. Would highly recommend this place.

First time here. It was very difficult to park took us 15 minutes to find parking space. We were meeting my son and daughter in law for lunch. We approached the bar to have a pre lunch drink. The lady serving was busy serving a person that she knew. When he was served she disappeared leaving us standing. 5 minutes later another lady appeared and took our order she seemed incredibly preoccupied/flustered and poured out drinks. The glass of red wine ordered was poured as a white despite the grape variety being asked for. I tried to lighten the mistake by saying gosh you really are busy today but it was met by a grimace. On ordering lunch after having been given the Menu I was told the whole grilled plaice was no longer available so I was put on the spot to choose my second choice. The food was good but there was a lack of portion size in terms of vegetables with the Lamb Rump. You have all the right ingredients to be good but several issues got in the way.

Hi we had our meal by the enormous window overlooking the sussex countryside and a family of 5 rats playing on the grass about 1m away from us.. No reply to us when we contacted them about the issue... yes I know we are in the country. I still don't want to eat watching them..

We decided to have a look at it and try the place out by having a bar snack with the view to return to the restaurant. I’m afraid we won’t be doing that …..the bar staff were charming the food was good but unfortunately the restaurant manager ,I believe that was who he was was very unpleasant which left a bad impression .

We loved our steak dinners and desserts, delicious, great value and top quality as cooked by a former restaurant chef. The service at the Stonemasons is exceptional. Beautiful historic interior and garden.

Very poor sandwiches, dry as virtually no butter, meagre fillings, desperately poor value. Suggest either take your own food or pre- buy from likes of M&S. Struggling to believe why NT would serve up such poor value. Avoid
