We have visited The Spice Exchange many times and never been disappointed. The restaurant is spacious, the tables elegant, with freshly laundered cloths. The food is always delicious: well cooked meat, fish & vegetables, with tasty sauces flavoured with different spices. On top of that, the service is amazing: professional yet friendly; individual yet detached. We always feel like welcome guests, in a huge family home where they remember our names and preferences, and offer the best advice when we can’t decide what we want. Definitely we recommend this restaurant 100%.

We nipped in for a birthday meal after hearing good things about the restaurant. We were to be honest a little underwhelmed when we walked in as it was quite cold and a little uninviting, but after sitting down we changed our minds quickly. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the service swift and on point. The food is cooked to order and amazing. Hot, fresh, tasty and generous portions. The salt & pepper squid is to die for and the crispy lamb and pancakes was great too. The crispy chilli beef is one of the best I've had and certainly packs a punch. Definitely not the last time we will visit

I had dinner here with family here one evening. The staff were friendly & the service quick. The food was freshly cooked & delicious. The portion sizes are generous. The rice is easily enough for 2 people to share. It's not the cheapest, but well worth the price. I'd thoroughly recommend a visit.

UPDATE: We became regulars here until 2020 and were very sad indeed to dscover that it has closed its doors. A real loss to anyone who enjoys first quality Japanese food! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London but it is so authentic that you need a guide. The sushi is good, the usual menu items are very good but if you really want to eat well you need to choose from the blackboard with the day's dishes chalked up in Japanese. Marinated squid guts and tuna cheek are delicious and so genuine: you could be in a very good local restaurant in Japan. These kind of dishes are not found in most London Japanese restaurants and this is why Sakana Tei is special. Grab a Japanese or literate Chinese friend and treat them in return for choosing the delicious surprises you would normally miss!
