On the spur of the moment decided after a hard day at work followed by working hard with our horses; my friend and I decided to give this place another go. I had previously eaten there about 18 months ago but originally not been that impressed but had heard it had changed.......so off we went.Lovely friendly greeting from the general manager, offered a choice of tables. Place looked cleaner, brighter, even the fish tank looked lovely and clean ( last time I came it was rather murky green!).We had mixed starters for two, came out lovely and hot, food tasty crisp and freshly prepared. Main courses......well what do I say........ I ordered Sweet and Sour chicken Hong Hong style and plain rice..........yummy yummy. My mate ordered duck with pancakes etc, mushroom chow mien, they did her mushrooms in a satay type sauce, not on the menu but they created her this dish. We had soooo much food on the table!! Hence to say a fair amount came home containers. It is not a cheap treat but it was a lovely change. The general manager even took the time to try and teach me to use chopsticks. All the staff very pleasant and helpful. Will go again, the place just looked a lot brighter and more inviting.Thank you Beijing Palace for a better experience and good service throughout.

Went for birthday meal. What a total mistake that was. Service was totally lacking. Food was cold. Had to return warmed plates 3 times as was waiting so long for our meal the plates kept on going cold. Asked for knife 3 times before we were given one. I have to say, there is nothing good I can say about this place. I was all for paying our bill after the starters and going down the road for fish and chips.so horrible we really didnt want to stay any longer than neccessary.

No puedo esperar a volver!!

No había nada inusual. No apresurado y no demasiado largo.

Visited this restaurant last Saturday evening, we have been here on numerous occasions and as usual the food was excellent, however I feel I must comment on the fact they have squeezed as many tables as is possible into the dining area which on the evening in question to me the place seem overcrowded and somewhat claustrophobic. As already stated the food was at its usual excellent standard, the staff although rushed off their feet were as attentive as usual. and the final bill was reasonable. As above we have visited this excellent restaurant on numerous occasions and have NEVER been disappointed with either the food or the service I just wish there wasn't so many tables squeezed in to the dining area.

I was greeted with a smile, shown to a table without any fuss even though I had not booked. The service was as excellent as I have found anywhere in the UK. The staff were friendly, helpful and treated me as if I was special, there are not many places you can say that about. The food was better than I have tasted in a long while, it was Chinese food at it's very best. When eating out whether it be in a restaurant, cafe or hotel I am always looking for something to moan about. The only thing I can find to moan about at the Beijing Palace is that there isn't anything to moan about, even the coffee was good. I would recommend this to anyone.

We`ve had food several times from Beijing Palace take-away. I think most of the mains are cooked very well; this includes the seafood which is cooked nicely. It is the case however that every time we use the place there is something wrong with the order, e.g crispy noodles either soggy or burnt, perhaps because they are the using the wrong noodles. There seems to be an issue with some of the customer service staff in terms of mix-ups and surly attitude.. i`m afraid I wont be going back again for a while..

A pity; this was always good food at a fair price. Then, all of a sudden, there's a major price hike which - according to the management review on Tripadvisor - is about keeping the business commercial. From experience of London Chinese restaurants I'd say £8.50 for plain noodles with bean sprouts is just OTT.Perhaps they'll rethink. I hope so.Indeed we ordered less than usual so I suspect income per head will be down while prices are high. That can't be good business for the restaurant and is much less enjoyable for the diners...

Went for a pre-Christmas treat and instead of a festive evening, I wish we'd stayed at home. The first downer was how pricey not only the starters are, but the main courses, even chow mein is around £10. The second downer was the nearly empty restaurant with the other diners looking as if Christmas had been cancelled this year. The third downer was a short, shaven-headed glum looking guy (manager, possibly), who didn't smile at us all evening. Maybe Christmas really has been cancelled? What a really miserable dinner.

Went here with a group of friends this weekend down from London, and have to say that the vibe in this restaurant is, well, not conducive to a good night out. The food was not memorable, the staff all looked shell-shocked, and the prices gave me a jolt when I saw the menu. There was no welcome on arrival and no "thank you and goodbye" when we left. I'm used to high prices and bad manners in London, but didn't expect it so far outside the metropolis. The whole experience left us feeling unhappy and disgruntled. This is my first time at writing a review for a restaurant and unfortunately it will disappoint loyal fans of the above establishment.Visited with friends last Friday (27th November) and I have to say that the restaurant was quite busy, but far from full capacity. Greeted by a person who seemed out of their depth and had all the charm of an undertaker. Then once the drinks were taken, they took what seem an eternity to arrive and brought by a member of staff who carried it so gingerly that it seems as though they were bringing the crown jewels to the table. The food was OK but nothing to write a review about. The restaurant was clean though.I totally agree with the reviews below and can confirm that this Chinese restaurant in a small village, in the south east of Blighty, believes it is in the West End. The owners/management need to take a good look at their business from the outside- in and get back to basics. Otherwise at these prices, pigs can really fly!

The Beijing Palace in Nutbourne used to offer good value for money and consistent quality of its food.It was also a friendly and unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant and I enjoyed going there for the last 5 years on a regular basis. Not any longer: Enter the new and recently appointed "manager":Overnight price hikes on all dishes of over 50% (!!!!), a surely and prickly "manager", who must think that HE is doing the paying customer an enormous favour by graciously taking a booking for a table (but not at the time, which the customer wants, although the restaurant was practically empty).Lesson to be learned: The owner should revisit the definition of buyer (customer) and seller (restaurant) and make the necessary changes. I for one shall give it a miss from now on, as there are other Chinese restaurants in the vicinity with lower prices and without the aggro.

While the food is generally good/what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant, the prices are way too high. Some dishes have increased by over 50% in the space of a week! The new manager seems totally out of place in a semi-rural Chinese restaurant and exudes a really unrelaxed aura. Consequently the atmosphere is all wrong for what should be an enjoyable evening at your local Chinese.Free advice to the owner(s) - ditch the new manager and bring the prices more in line with your catchment area.

Stumbled on this restaurant purely by chance whilst looking for somewhere to eat lunch. Welcomed pleasantly enough into a fairly large, well furnished room in a typical chinese style. Menus was extensive, but not cheap - more of that anon. I ordered the roast duck with plum sauce (£10.50) and my wife had the chicken breast in lemon sauce (£9.50). we aso shared a single portion of plain rice (£3.50) and a plain chow mein (at a whopping £8.50 !) - wouldn't have had that if we had seen the price. The meal was served promptly and well enough presented. The food was generally good, except that my duck was disappointing in that it was over-cooked to the point that the outside pieces were chewy and the plum sauce too sweet with little flavour. Portions were a good size and we felt satisfied with the amount of food presented. My main concern is that I have eaten similar quality meals in many other Chinese restaurants at considerably less than the £32 (excluding drinks) this cost. £8.50 for a plain Chow Mein is a joke.A reasonable meal in comfortable surroundings with good service - yes. Value for money - no.

We arrived without booking at 8ish and were immediately accommodated with a table for the five of us, we had a pre set meal with some extra spare ribs which were the best I have ever eaten, the rest of the food was sublime, the service was perfect, attentive but not obtrusive. Our family have been happily visiting the Beijing Palace for many years, regularly if not frequently. Five of us visited last night and, whilst the food was OK, some lacked the flavour and seasoning we expected. My garlic chicken, for example, had a hint of garlic but not enough to deserve the title and was generally bland. My daughter was very pleased, though, with her 'Seafood Bonanza'.The big issue of disappointment was the extremely poor service: diffident, moody, careless. I have no interest in obsequiousness but do think that good manners should be a prerequisite for waiting staff. We wont be rushing back.

For was great, but that was just about it. It was obvious there are a lot of new staff, very chaotic, not organised. The prices were increased recently and we found it overly expensive! In the middle of the main course we found some black bits of what looked like brush bristles.. We called the manager and after he investigated in the kitchen he came to inform us that "as we washed the woks the brush bristles stayed in it and we put the sauce over it"!! He said "it sometimes happens" as if it was ok! It is with huge regret but we won't be returning to this restaurant. The service was poor and they managed to get my whole order wrong which had never happened before! Also previously the restaurant had a lovely relaxed atmosphere but on this occasion there was a large family there whose children played really loud video games the whole time, which definitely ruined our experience. I also found the staff to be rather unfriendly and they practically ignored us, which once again I had not experienced previously. I have been here a few times before and always liked it but my recent trip seemed different. We ordered 4 starters but each person got theirs separately over about 20 minutes, to the extent that the first and second people had already finished before the fourth person had received their starter. At no point did anyone apologise or explain what was going on. The starters seemed quite small for the price. Most chinese restaurants I visit give free prawn crackers but we had one small free bowl between 4 and when the person waiting for their starter ordered more, there was a charge. On our main course one diner got shrimp instead of pork. I heard him order pork. They didn't check we were happy and by the time we attracted their attention the meals were going cold and we couldn't face the wait to replace it. I go out for quite a lot of meals and it seemed quite pricey at £73. We had 2 courses each and one soft drink each. All in all it was not a relaxing experience and no one seemed bothered if we were happy or not or to explain what was happening or offer anything to compensate. In future I think I will stick to Aroma in Havant, which is cheaper and I have not had any service problems in and is altogether more calm.

The food was Amazing! Very hot and delicious! The only problem was the service. Unfortunately we must of visited the restaurant at a busy time of the week. we was asked for our drinks order twice after we told the first waiter we hadn’t decided yet . When ordering out food… 3 of us had read out our food order.. the waiter then said “no more food, that will be enough” By this point my partner hadn’t ordered a dish he would like. We explained no 1 more dish needs to be ordered.. Waiter reply’s “ no more food you won’t need it!” … thinking it was a joke the table laughed..Unfortunately the waiter didn’t think it was funny? Evenly after ordering .. What WE wanted… We waited about 30mins between each course The food eventually came. The food was Delicious! We ate everything we ordered! While the waiter came to clear the table… I was holding my chop sticks.. She then points at the chop sticks I was holding clicks the fingers .. as if to say give them here.I passed them over to her and she took them away! I felt like a naughty child! When paying for our meal we was served by another waiter (4th waiter of the evening) This Gentleman was very nice! He was a young man who was very polite! The menus were thrown on to our table in a pile. Drinks took another 15 minutes, A very abrupt waiter took our order, Our starter arrived quickly but before we had finished our main course started arriving we complained and it was taken back to kitchen. When our first course was ready our main course arrive and it was warm not hot. We concluded it had been taken back and then not kept warm and then produced, We complained and the curt waiter stated it was our fault as we had not finished our starter. We all decided on ice cream deserts which had started to thaw and was runny. It was a big disappointment and we and our friend how are new neighbours in a new development stated we will not dine at this place again we will go to Chichester.Beijing Palace need a new management team.

Visited the Beijing Palace for lunch for 2. Very friendly welcome in arrival and we were seated at a nice table. The menu is very extensive and the food is reasonably priced. We chose the crispy duck with steamed pancakes, followed by Kung po chicken, seafood bonanza (king prawns, scallops & squid with vegetables), Szechuan beef and egg fried rice. I have to say it was all absolutely delicious. With drinks the meal came to £40, which was reasonable. The restaurant staff were all friendly and helpful & were busy decorating the restaurant in preparation for a Chinese New Year party and were explaining what the festivities would entail. We left wishing we could go to the party too! Will definitely be returning.

I have visited the Beijing Palace on many occassions over the years and it I am always surprised that a chinese restaurant of this quality should be found tucked away in such a quiet corner of Sussex. The food, service and general ambiance are all conducive to a most enjoyable experience. I try never to miss a visit to the Beijing whwenever I am in the area.

I visited the Beijing Palace last night and really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is stylish, the tables laid with nice linen and the service is excellent, friendly and swift. It was easy to be tempted by the range of dishes and I enjoyed everything we selected. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I am looking forward to going back there again soon. The fact that it is so busy provides unequivocal testament to the superb quality.

I would initially add that I have no connections at all with this restaurant nor anyone associated with it. If you look at my past reviews you can also see that I am quite capable of being brutally critical where it is justified.Myself and partner eat at the restaurant last night. We had a magnificent meal with a wide variety of delicious food well-cooked. I have been to most of the restaurants in the Chichester area and this one is as good as the very best of them. All the staff working in the restaurant were really welcoming and helpful. For example when my partner needed some plain rice because she did not like the spicy version the manager quickly brought her some with no charge. The attitude of the staff made the whole evening memorable. Finally I think it fair to the persons working in this restaurant to comment on a recent review from GrahamP where he uses the heading 'Rip-off Merchants' and specifically makes accusations against one person working in the restaurant. I have known and used this restaurant for all of the 18 years it has been open. We have had good and bad food over the years but at no time would I have in anyway have doubted the totally honesty of the owners and staff at this establishment. I believe the person referred to in GrahamP's review served us last night, I cannot think of anyone who would be less likely to rip-off anyone. GrahamP you really should be careful what you write in reviews. Unless you are a Cambridge Uni computer expert it is not possible to clone a modern chip and pin card. The only practical way it can be dishonestly used is for someone to have been given the pin number and unsupervised access to the original card. If you were ripped-off then I suggest you look elsewhere for the culprit.

Good food but our credit card was skimmed by the waiter . If you get an English waiter about 30yrs old with slightly receding fair hair leave or pay with cash . Better still don't go here in the first place . They haven't heard the last of this either .

We've been spoiled by a favourite Chinese restaurant in London, and were delighted to find one in West Sussex that we so enjoyed. We went with a lovely group of friends as part of a monthly meetup in a different restaurant, and I do have some specific dietary requirements. The Manager was most accommodating and ensured that I had dinner with my special requests. The food was delicious and most pleasantly served. I note that another review stated how refreshing it was to experience a place that still values its customers. I agree and felt most specially treated that evening.

We had previously (March 2013) had a takeaway from this restaurant and had not thought it anything special. This time we wanted to go to the Hayling Island Thai restaurant again but it was closed for refurbishment. As it was a Sunday night our choice was limited so we found ourselves at this Chinese restaurant. This time we ate in and were delighted with the meal. Even my husband who has very high standards particularly when it comes to Chinese and Thai food said his meal was excellent. The food arrived quickly and the service was Very good. I wish we had this restaurant up here in Shropshire!

We have eaten here a number of times when on holiday in the area and this visit was ok but not as good as in the past. The food was very good but the service and atmosphere was not up to our expectations base on previous visits.

Went here for an evening meal with my partner, we have driven past it many times and wondered what it is like, I wish we hadn't waited so long to visit it now.It gets full marks in all respects really. The service was swift, attentive and friendly. The food was very nice and well cooked and there was plenty of it. We had the set meal for 2, which was good value considering how much food you get. They get extra marks for the large tank of beautiful goldfish!

We visited last night and I'm pleased to say that this restaurant seems to have got over a rather bad patch a few months ago. Service as always was very prompt, and the food was good, better than many Chinese and an improvement from the purple patch days. Mixed hot starters were tasty, and our mains of lamb, duck and a house special noodles, all came in generous portions with a good flavour and plenty of fresh veg. My one big gripe with many Chinese and Indian restaurants is still there, though. Why do you try to pad out the dishes with those awful slices of barely cooked onion? It's so unnecessary and unpalatable, please, just don't do it. Don't kid yourself they're a substitute for spring onions - hardly an expensive indgredient yet I never taste or see any of the tender pieces, only some tough bits of the end leaves.

5 of us went for meal here starters were very nice, however they bought us our nice hot plates and it took another 15 mins at least for food to start coming out which came out one by one and we had to wait for he waitress to take food to other tables. The food was not even warm. The noodles were not cooked and my sisters beef was raw. When we complained although they said sorry it felt it was with a attitude. My sister requested it even just got put in microwave which to my disgust they said ok!!! When it returned to the table hot it tasted even worse. I even had to ask for a plate as they did not bring me one back. They did not seem to really care and thought taking some money off the bill would make it ok. Rice cold meat not cooked manager too busy cooking to come and deal with problem, and when they did bring microwaved food back bury did not come and check if it was ok. Spent a long time getting their attention to tell them it was not acceptable, they did not care then had to ask for bill twice. Worst place we have ever been.

We throughly enjoyed our food and will definitely be going again

I was there with my wife for a casual change from cooking at home. We've been there before and I am circumspect about some of those earlier critical reviews. The restaurant is clean and tidy, tastefully decorated with images of the orient, and has a very pleasing ambience. The staff were welcoming, courteous and attentive, without being intrusive.Menu 'B' for two provides a generous variety of oriental starters, followed by crispy aromatic duck with pancakes. The main course comprises three dishes: spicy prawns, chicken and cashew nuts, and oriental vegetables: all very tasty. We couldn't eat it all, and we were even offered take-home doggie-bags for the left-overs!All this food for two at £41.00, (total, excluding drinks,) strikes me as extraordinarily good value.OK, you might get similar food at other Chinese restaurants, but rarely with such prompt and excellent service: pre-warmed plates, (always a 'plus',) duck expertly shredded at the table, hot moist hand-towels, ready smiles from all the staff. It really is worth going out-of-town, and it's on the 700 bus route so you don't have to worry about driving!(Last bus to Chichester leaves Southbourne at 22.22.)

A party of 8 of us went to enjoy the usually excellent food and attentive staff. On this occasion, although the food was up to it's usual high standard, the staff were grumpy, confrontational and almost aggressive to us!We were celebrating my niece's bithday as we have before at The Beijing Palace but won't be going again as it was no longer a relaxing enjoyable experience :-(The bill was pretty high too.

8 of us went to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday at this restaurant as this had been a birthday tradition for his family a good few years ago. I was excited to visit after being told about the delicious food and the beautiful interior and I definitely wasn't disappointed. We arrived after having previously booked a table and were sat at a large, round table with the spinning section in the middle - this came in very useful! The staff were very prompt and catered to our every need; even when we wanted to mix and match a few things from the set menu. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them which was brilliant as, working in this industry myself, I can understand how frustrating it is to have customers chop and change the menu. They also brought out a cake we'd brought with us out which made the evening that little bit more special. The food was quick to arrive and was beautifully served almost like a banquet - all of which was well enjoyed. We will definitely be returning after having such a wonderful evening all for really good value: for the 8 of us with several drinks each came to just over £150 including starters, second course and a main course (a lot of which was left as they're portions are huge!)

My fiancé took me here for dinner on a Saturday night. There was plenty of parking. On entering the restaurant I found it nicely decorated and clean. The staff were all very friendly and we were seated straight away without a reservation. We chose a set menu as everything looked nice and I wasn't sure what to try. The food arrived promptly and was very tasty. The prawn toasts were especially delicious. The staff were attentive but not to the point of pestering. I feel the prices were fair for very tasty food and good service. Will hopefully be returning in the near future. A very lovely meal indeed.

It's not actually in Chichester it's in Nutbourne but if one of us is driving we'll come here. There's a number of nice pubs on the way to stop for a drink at. The food is nice and doesn't have whatever is in the chinese's that make you thirsty and bouncing off the walls when you're trying to sleep. It's not a buffet as so many chinese's are now, so there is a wide and more varied selection of dishes. The dishes are large portions, plenty for 2 with some left over which they box for you if you want them to. It's always busy even on a Monday night but it's a big restaurant so you always get a table, and the service is good.

I visit this Chinese on a regular basis. It is always busy but has plenty of tables. You might want to book on a weekend though. The service is faultless and the food good. They have their own car park. Just one note - this restaurant is in Nutbourne - about 5 miles outside of Chichester.
