During a short visit to Ayr I was looking for somewhere that would do some proper Scottish food. Trawling through Google I found the Chestnuts Hotel and wasn’t disappointed. We arrived without booking at around 6:30pm on a cold and windy early March evening. The place was buzzing and there were no tables available in the bar but we were taken to the restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was great and very good value for money. I have been charged quite a bit more for similar quality in similar environments. Totally worth a visit; I wish I was spending longer here so I could return.

Lovely wee Dog friendly cafe/bistro. Visited in a bright, if chilly, early afternoon we ate in the open air under a canopy on decked area as we had our dog with us. Could be less comfortable if inclement weather We were served promptly on requesting a menu from inside. A few stairs to access the area & bit unattractive back of shop/restaurant. Unsure if we could have walked through the cafe with the dog but would be tricky if you have mobility issues. This said we had delicious lentil soup with sandwich and lovely fresh salad on the side. Wee bit pricey for the scones which we took away but they were humongous.. & lovely ! .. Well worth a visit but could easily be overlooked, serve more substantial meals & alcohol if you fancied something more.. Very pleasant service & visit would go back 😊👌

The absolute worst lunch I have had in many, many years. I was charged £6.50 for a tuna and cheese (allegedly) panini that looked like it had been given the last rights four days before, and £3.00 for a *small* dish of incinerated chips. The cutlery wasn't sparkling (to a point where I preferred to eat with my fingers) and the tables were sadly lacking a good wipe down with disinfectant. And don't get me started on the two pint pots on the window ledge with what appeared to be cider vinegar in it covered partially with cling film to trap flies presumably as there was one lost soul already in it's tardy grave. Had I not been with friends and didn't want them to feel uncomfortable, I would have asked for my money back. Would I recommend going to this bar? ... I leave you to answer your own question.

Always a lovely pub, go for karaoke most weeks and it's quite cheap, pet friendly and a lovely atmosphere and aesthetic

Popped in to hotel to ask if we could see menu for restaurant. The lady on reception was very friendly & most helpful. Menu had a good choice. Meals were lovely. Served quickly by friendly members of staff. Restaurant is nice & comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere. We most definitely will return!

Valentine’s Day lunch special menu Started with the Prosecco in lipstick stained glasses Starters prawn cocktail was great and scallops were fine too Lamb for main course was adequate but nothing special Daulphinouse potatoes were bit of sliced and diced potatoes with cheese scattered on top. Not the proper recipe Did question it only to be brought another serving of the same in a small dish. Deserts were fine but nothing special Waitress did try her very best and was pleasant and tried to be helpful but when she approached the restaurant manager and the chef they didn’t seem at all concerned. We went for lunch as we had heard very good reports about the restaurant but perhaps they were concentrating too much on the evening bookings and it suited us to be eating earlier in the day Won’t be rushing back.
