What a lovely place for a drink and cake plus a browse at very reasonably priced books. I've to avoid caffeine at the moment on orders of the doc so was looking for an alternative. The apple mint tea was the best fruity one I have ever had! The lady here was extremely attentive and helpful without being overbearing. It's such a shame it is the last day of our holiday as we'd have been back.

I enjoy going to The Book and Bun for a coffee and to sample the home baking. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, I even wrote a poem about it in my Amazon e-book called "Salar" (you can find it near the back). That's the impression it has made on me.

Dropped in for a latte and cake, initial impressions were what a nice relaxed atmosphere the place had. Coffees were lovely, sticky toffee pudding was to die for and the service came with a smile. All very reasonably priced. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.....plus as an independent, it was nice to support a local business.

The Book and Bun provides a great choice of soups, snacks and paninis, and usually always with a little twist. But one thing in particular needs to be elevated here, this venue makes the best flat white coffee anywhere. I mean ANYWHERE. Forget wasting your hard earned cash on horribly sweet syrupy nonsense from the 'Big guys coffee chains' that have, incidentally, become so big that you don't have the customer experience that you may be used to expecting from them any longer. Get on/in that bus/train/car or tardis and pay this lovely little place a visit. If you have the same tastes as mine (and believe me, I've consumed many a cup of coffee in my time, in commercial establishments up and down the 'Kingdom), you will come to appreciate the humble little coffee that looks smooth and light and fluffy when it arrives at your table with a tiny almond biscotti to accompany it. The coffee tastes very good indeed. And, if you think my ramblings are a little overdone, come and find out for yourself. Enough said.

Further to our last review of January, we called in today for a drink & snack. The beef/horseradish/salad sandwich was the most tasty I have eaten in a very long time. I thoroughly enjoyed & but for the time of late afternoon would have ordered another!! Coffee good to. Ann also really liked the scone & peppermint tea. All this in a quiet & relaxing space with a book or magazine to read & return or buy. Unique!! Staff really good to .

Tucked down a side road this was just what we were looking for: nice coffee and lunch. It was fine enough to sit outside, we had our dog with us so that worked well for us. It is reasonably priced and there is the added attraction of books too. Well worth a visit.

Delicious food and quick service when we arrived. Tea served in beautiful China cups. Clean surroundings. A great choice of books to purchase. Pleasant, friendly service from the gentleman, the lady who works here - not so much. She brought the tea to our table with a frown. She clearly couldn't be bothered being there and anytime she appeared from behind the counter to serve or clear dishes away, she would quickly scurry away again behind the counter again to chat to the gentleman. I have given this venue 5 stars as it was excellent and I don't think it's fair for this lady to drag an otherwise excellent venue down.

Visited on a Tuesday afternoon while shopping in Ayr,decided to try this place instead of the big name coffee shops. But wish we had stuck to what we know.Ordered 3 small coffees,a toastie and a scone. The coffees were served quickly and were nice, the scone came about 5 mins after the coffees and it was stale. The toastie we waited 20 mins for (there were only 2 other tables full)we had finished our coffees, then when the girl brought it out she stood and chatted to the boy behind the desk so still no food.We had to tell them to keep the toastie as we had to leave. Not great service. But they did apologise and offer the toastie to take away for a discount, but we declined.

A cocktail of books and coffee is a dream mix and in this attractive, bustling street in the wonderful seaside resort of Ayr, The Book and Bun is a very special place. We only wanted drinks; just a pity that we had eaten earlier elsewhere on this day visit, otherwise we would have indulged ourselves all the more.Books cram shelves on both sides of the establishment, and there are many more to be found elsewhere.A book lover's dream! As I downed an extremely good cappuccino, my eyes alighted on a book - brand new - by one of my favourite authors, James Lee Burke. And it was a copy I had not seen before, featuring Mr Burke's famous detective hero. It had a blue spot on the spine which indicated it would cost me £2. That's all it was for a James Lee Burke! Wonderful. This magical match of books and buns works a treat. My two companions enjoyed their drinks, one a glass of cold milk, the other a pot of tea (green teapot and china cup) all served by an extremely friendly, helpful assistant.Excellent!

I'm in here regularly with my grandma - we always have tea and cake. The tea comes in proper teacups (not those thick-rimmed coffee cups, but actual bone-china vintage teacups) and is proper leaf tea (Suki brand). The scones always taste fresh and don't have that bitter 'raising agent' taste that some scones do. And as an added bonus there's books to browse and buy! I also love the fact that the coffee shop funds the work of Voluntary Action South Ayrshire - giving directly back to the community.

We recently visited The Anchorage and were blown away by the experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm, welcoming staff who made us feel right at home—even as English visitors in Scotland! The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, and absolutely worth every penny. We also loved the special touches, like the dedicated kids’ and dog menus, which made the whole family feel included. Highly recommend this place for anyone in the area—it's a must-visit! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re up here.

Went on a small adventure to Coylton Arms Inn. I have to say we will be back, the food is very good, a well seasoned lasagna with plenty of herbs, nice béchamel sauce and a good salad and french fries. The only small criticism was the lack of staff which made the wait slightly longer than necessary. The staff themselves were extremely welcoming and the ambiance was charming without being twee. Portion size was good without being excessive. All in all an enjoyable experience that I would recommend for a pub lunch.
