We recently visited The Anchorage and were blown away by the experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm, welcoming staff who made us feel right at home—even as English visitors in Scotland! The food was exceptional, beautifully presented, and absolutely worth every penny. We also loved the special touches, like the dedicated kids’ and dog menus, which made the whole family feel included. Highly recommend this place for anyone in the area—it's a must-visit! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re up here.

Staying at the local caravan park with friends and 1 has been here before and suggested to go. Off we went we parked our cars at the side of the main road and thought the area looked stunning for food but we seen not 1 soul so thought it would’ve been quiet. Then we went inside and the place was full and no wonder it was full. The food was absolutely stunning. The service was absolutely perfect. Service was the quickest we’ve had in all the restaurant we’ve been in. Waitresses were all bubbly and very friendly. I got the anchorage chicken was beautiful cooked absolutely perfect. My daughter got the claymore burger and she loved it. So yes I would highly recommend this stunning place with a stunning location.

Had a lovely evening great food company and customer service. Staff waiting on FOH excellent service. Chef same. Menu left us spoilt for choice. However - the broccoli was too aldente for us and too much cream in the seafood linguine hid the taste of the small amount of seafood and lack of seasoning - seafood risotto was good but again lack of seafood and seasoning but the scallops were delicious. Overall had a really lovely evening just a few tweeks needed. Having worked in hospitality we understand how hard it is to get it just right so no need to complain . Thank you for assisting us with our friends birthday cake - staff were really excellent as they were busy even chef joined in - made a huge point of thanking him for accommodating our food allergies as well. Thanks guys.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I’d call it a hidden gem. Nestled beside the harbour it looks unassuming. You must go in . The staff are very attentive and the food was great. We ordered a sea food platter in advance and it was worth every penny, lobster, prawns, smoked salmon, and scallops (apologies to the staff if i’ve missed anything!).expertly cooked and presented. They couldn’t do enough to ensure our experience was anything less than 100%. This is a must if you’re in the area. If.not in the area you must make a visit. Thank you to all for a most memorable lunch.

This gem of a restaurant/pub was a fabulous visit for us. We had seen wonderful reviews and some horrible ones so were in two minds but we certainly weren't disappointed. Visited on the Sunday for a very late Sunday lunch. The decor is beautiful and the staff were so attentive and friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing. We had the mussels and scallops to start with and they were as fresh as can be - that sauce in the mussels - wow! I couldn't get enough of it. My friend had the Sunday roast and what a plate it was with perfect cooked roast beef and a huge yorkie. I had the fish and chips and the batter was the lightest, crispiest Ive tasted - hats off to the kitchen staff. The cheesecake - freshly made and so yummy - could only manage one between us as too full after the meal. This is a lovely little place and coming from Ayr, we can get the bus so we can have a drink. Ive noticed customers slating the Anchorage and placing wonderful reviews on the Harbourside which Im sorry, but having had a very woeful salmon salad there once for takeaway, I would much prefer the lovely atmosphere at the Anchorage and will definitely visit again soon.

£19 for a Sunday Roast apparently “with all the trimmings” What were “the trimmings” ?? We barely got any veg, and the veg we got was boiled or steamed. No roasted veg at all. No mash. Only had one choice of meat (beef) which was dry. Ordered “brownie” for desert but after a long wait we were brought the brownie sundae instead, couldn’t be bothered to wait sending it back. It was basically just loads of cheap ice cream in a glass with some bits of brownie. Unimaginative and not really enjoyable

Phoned early in the day to book a table and put in request for local langoustines (as instructed on their Facebook menu). On arrival for dinner we were abruptly informed all the langos had been sold despite specifically phoning to request this. We ordered the scallops instead. These were good, but missing the pancetta mentioned on the menu while the accompanying fries were brought to the table 5 minutes later after several reminders. Also had to remind the waitress that we needed a knife and fork. Meanwhile the owner went out the open back door for a smoke that soon caused the dining area to be flooded with cigarette fumes! That, and the truly awful loud background "music" did not make for the romantic harbourside dinner for two we were expecting.

I was only able to join my family after their dinner and as a result was only able to have dessert. I chose apple crumble. It was hands down the worst crumble I have ever had. An assembly job of almost solid apple with no moistness with uncooked crumble sprinkled on top of it. It was like they had left out the sugar completely. I ate the ice cream and strawberry that came with it. £8 for that? Awful. The others said their fajitas were very nice and I agree the ambience was lovely, but how do you mess up an apple crumble?

Visited 2 years ago, couple of drinks while touring the area, we said then we must try the food here. Its taken a wee bit longer than planned to revisit, and sad to say this wasnt as good as we hoped it would be. Got shown to a table straight away, my wife went to the bar and got some drinks, all good so far. Waitress came and took our order for starters and mains, still good. Starters duly arrived and were very nice. Mains arrived....but not what we had ordered. Waitress came back to check, and again to tell us it would be two mins. My wife had ordered mussels, she loves them but only rarely has them, they brought her mussels, then my fish, then the chips. My wife asked if there was any bread...a major part if you order mussels to get all those lovely juices. The waitress said she'd go check if she could have some....and never came back! And not only never came back, she avoided our table completely. It really was that obvious. What made it even more obvious was the table behind had ordered mussels, those arrived with a spare bowl for the empty shells, and a bowl of bread!!! We eventually gave up waiting, my wife found all the juices to be cold, very dissapointing, and not even a spoon! No staff approached us again, had we wanted a dessert we were unlucky, in fact we ended up going to the till point to pay, and the young man there produced the wrong order on a receipt! Being honest we said no and paid the correct amount. A dissapointing visit, which is a great pity.

The fish was also soggy on the bottom. Pretty good overall. Response to the owner: - how am I supposed to know you are down a chef? - how am I supposed to know that this isn’t your normal portion size? - quality control is up to the establishment. Don’t put this on me. - google reviews are for posting your experience. If I had to ask you to fix aspects of my meal it would be a worse review.

We will definitely come back and try the lunch and dinner options, and the well stocked bar 😀 And prices were really good. There is a good sized car park for the Anchorage customers - watch out for the turn off into the car park it is on the main road - don’t turn down the road to the harbour it is a No Through Road and there is very limited parking. We saw a lot of cars getting stuck at the harbour and doing a ten point turn to get back out!

It's uncommon for me to write a low score review but this occasion is justified. This is a local restaurant to us and we came with a large number of other people to a prebooked dinner a few days before Christmas to celebrate. It didn't bode well that the tables weren't set when we arrived and there was a lot of jostling to get them ready. This is not a busy place so no idea why everything wasn't ready for our quite large party. On sitting down it was hugely disappointing that although we were having the advertised festive menu there was not a single token or gesture to make the table festive. No crackers, no christmassy napkins, no holly, no smartly clad staff, no nothing. Add to that a 3 course menu was offered but each place setting had just one knife and fork, we were instructed to take anymore required cutlery from the pot on the table (and they still had to scrabble around to get enough cutlery for the 3rd course!)! There was no drinks ordering from the table it was take yourself up to the bar! So to the food. My choices were prawn cocktail, baked salmon and Eton mess. Prawn cocktail was miniscule portion, dry and presentation was very lacking, but edible. Salmon, nicely cooked but .... do I really want brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes with it? Seems like whatever main course you ordered you got the same vegetables. Really?!?! Eton mess .... as a pudding lover this next bit is very hard to write. I did not eat a single spoonful. What arrived was a plate of disgusting looking "mess" that looked like something the cat had brought up. In all my days I have never seen anything like it and I was shocked that a "professional" kitchen would allow that to be served. The cost for this meal was £30, that's not much you may think but it was the most expensive but the worst I had this year or even ever..

Spoke to Adele on the phone to see if our furbaby was allowed in while we had our Anniversary dinner. No Problem ! And the enthusiasm that she showed ensured we booked a table. We arrived at 2.30pm, our agreed time and were met at the door by a young bearded man from Cumnock, who couldn't have been more welcoming or polite. After taking our drinks order, a man who we later found out to be the chef came over to say hello to our furry friend, and again was friendly and polite. When our starters arrived we were both impressed and delighted with the fabulous tempura batter starters we had ordered, my wife King Prawn and myself the haggis. Both were sensational. In the break between courses the chef reappeared with a small plastic bowl of gravy for the dog!! About 2 mins later Adele arrived with a bowl of water for him! Our mains arrived, I had the Steak and Guinness pie, whilst my wife had the Cajun Sea Bass. Again the flavours and the meals were fabulous. As we were spoiling ourselves we also had a dessert, My wife opting for the sticky toffee pudding, and me the apple crumble and custard. Again both yummy! Portion sizes were just right, not a wee splat in the middle of the plate, nor enough to feed a family of four. The reason for this review is the amazing staff members who made our whole experience special, Adele, the chef, and the guy from Cumnock with the beard......we thank you. Visited here with a friend a couple of weeks ago who lives in the area & uses this place quite often as she takes her beautiful dog in with her. It was my first time at this pub & I thoroughly enjoyed it. Is located in a nice area by the sea so you can pop in while out for a stroll & as I said it's dog friendly so I was in my element with my friends dog & others that came in too (I prefer dogs to people the vast majority of the time! Lol). The lad that served us was super friendly and welcoming, as was the chef who popped out a couple of times to say hi to us & the dogs as it was quiet when we were in there on a pretty rough day. Although dog friendly, there's a larger section the other side of the pub if you want to sit away from animals so it's very much suited to everyone in that way. Food was really tasty & pretty reasonable, served in a good timely manner. Pub area & toilets all clean & hygiene etc too. Looked forward to our meal as reviews were good, but meal was mediocre! Service was fab, very attentive. But over priced, not very exciting, and poor portion sizes. In fact the main size tempura was a starter with fries! The fajitas were the worst I have ever had, not enough to fill one wrap never mind the 3 they give you. Steak was no better than a minute steak. Gluten free was certainly catered for and one of our party had fish, which they loved. I do think unless you are going for seafood i would skip. The seafood is the highlight for this restaurant it seems. Over priced and not worth a repeat visit I'm afraid.

Absolute gem of a place, the standard menu is great but the seafood specials really are! Awesome service too.

Visited The Anchorage for lunch today for my mums birthday. It’s in a lovely location and the interior is decorated perfectly. The staff were very friendly also. Now for the bad bits . . . . . . I tried to order braised steak which was on the specials board but was told it wouldn’t be ready for another 50 minutes and this was at 1.10pm. My mum ordered sea bass which was the smallest bit of fish I’ve ever seen. I’ve had sea bass numerous times before and it’s usually filled the plate. More like a starter rather than a main course. I did mention that we were very disappointed at the size of the fish but there was no recompense for this in any way. This place is not cheap so I don’t think it’s value for money on the portion size alone. The customer service is obviously lacking and doesn’t encourage a return visit. There’s plenty of lovely restaurants in this area so competition is high. We decided to skip dessert and visited the wee cafe a few doors down for cake which didn’t disappoint.

After a ride round of the coast we called in on the off chance to see if we could get something to eat. We had our dog with us, and so i asked if it was ok, which we were asked to be seated outside as thats where they had a seat. Not a problem to us as we would not expect to have a dog in the restaurant with us. Sat outside in a small courtyard area, and the waiter gave us our menus and took our drinks order. I chose the roast beef Sunday, ( Sunday is always a roast dinner day for me), and the wife had the salmon with chive mash. The meals were very tasty indeed. The salmon cooked just right, with the mash smooth and creamy textured. The beef was cooked to perfection for me, nice and pink ( how i like it). The gravy was exceptionally tasty made with the meat juices. A very nice couple of main meals. This was followed by an apple crumble with custard, piping hot, again very flavoursome. Overall a nice relaxing atmosphere, with nice food. Would definitely come back again of we were over this way

We walked to Dunure expecting to grab a sandwich at the Harbourside Cafe next door (also worth a visit) but The Anchorage has literally just opened 7 days a week. With an inviting beer garden and accommodating team, we had a wonderful lunch of mussels, langoustine and calamari, washed down with a couple of cold beers. The team couldn’t have been more helpful and welcomed us and our dog to sit outside or in the dog friendly part of the restaurant. We’ve already booked to come back one evening later this week for their seafood platter. Great value for money and delicious food. Thank you!

I took my kids for lunch here after reading the review. The service is great and our waitress was really so lovely. Food is good and the fish was very nice. Brownies were excellent. The area is stunning and afterwards we went for a walk on the beach. Great afternoon out.

The anchorage is a nice place in a fabulous location and it is a real shame I could not give it full marks. The staff are happy and friendly, the decor is nice, even witty, and the atmosphere is fine. So we had the haddock...

I visited yesterday with three friends. I ordered the dressed fish supper from the 2 courses for £15.95 menu. When it came, the dressed fish looked like battered fish, and had been cooked beyond belief…I couldn’t even cut it with my knife, let alone eat...

This is only my second time here (the other way two years ago) and I've lived it both times. The atmosphere has been buzzing each time and the bar staff are cracking (they know how to serve more than one customer at a time, for starters!).

An excellent restaurant we visited on a Friday night whilst staying nearby. There was a good choice of food which was of high quality and reasonably priced. Although the place was busy the waiting staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. i would certainly go back again if in the Troon area.

Went on a small adventure to Coylton Arms Inn. I have to say we will be back, the food is very good, a well seasoned lasagna with plenty of herbs, nice béchamel sauce and a good salad and french fries. The only small criticism was the lack of staff which made the wait slightly longer than necessary. The staff themselves were extremely welcoming and the ambiance was charming without being twee. Portion size was good without being excessive. All in all an enjoyable experience that I would recommend for a pub lunch.
