Valentine’s Day lunch special menu Started with the Prosecco in lipstick stained glasses Starters prawn cocktail was great and scallops were fine too Lamb for main course was adequate but nothing special Daulphinouse potatoes were bit of sliced and diced potatoes with cheese scattered on top. Not the proper recipe Did question it only to be brought another serving of the same in a small dish. Deserts were fine but nothing special Waitress did try her very best and was pleasant and tried to be helpful but when she approached the restaurant manager and the chef they didn’t seem at all concerned. We went for lunch as we had heard very good reports about the restaurant but perhaps they were concentrating too much on the evening bookings and it suited us to be eating earlier in the day Won’t be rushing back.

Went for a meal on a Thursday night and took the option of steak night offer. Ordered a fillet steak medium rare. Very disappointed with the quality. Definitely not a fillet cut, over cooked, tough and needed a steak knife to cut it. The dogs enjoyed it when we took it away. Would rather they didn't do promotional nights if they aren't accurate to the description. I'd have paid more money for a genuine fillet steak professionally cooked. Starter was nice and service was good. Wouldn't go again unfortunately.

The BALGARTH PINES surroundings are very nice. Food was good enough to be worthwhile going. The menu was good and varied. Arrived and checked in for lunch and was allocated a table next to a wall beside a fire exit. Definitely not a good place to sit. I asked the waiter if we could take a table in a brighter more open area which I knew from before and really a bit “ ticked off”, ….. he grabbed 2 menus and said. “….. I am really busy” . We did finally get a good table and meal despite the disappointing first contact welcome. I even said thanks and goodbye to him on leaving and he said nothing. We would however go back.

Brilliant venue for a birthday lunch! The staff were excellent and the food was delicious.

Apart from the service being incredibly slow (for which the waiter apologised), the food was a very low standard. The food is surprisingly similar to that which you might get in Food Warehouse…

Popped in for a breakfast. Had two rolls and two coffees. It was decent enough and for the price it was excellent. Service was perfect and friendly staff. Inside it was a little tired looking but clean enough. We will definitely be back. You can also take your pooch with you which is a bonus.

We had today at balgarth pines.Starters were excellent but one of us had the beef burger but was inedible due to the burger tasting like a tinned burger.Didnt even look like a burger.The waitress looked grumpy and didnt appear as if she wanted to be there.Both waiters were lovely. Unfortunately we wouldnt go back.

Went for Valentines lunch today after having been at a meeting the previous week which had been extremely well catered. Hence the reason we went for lunch. So Disappointing. Started with wine glasses served with lipstick on them. No atmosphere in the dining room. Food mediocre to the point where the menu was not followed. Dauphinois potatoes were mash plus a few slices and some cheese sprinkled on top. Food could have been warmer even although the plates were extremely hot. It was COLD in the bar area. Bar manager seemed very disinterested. However on the plus side the waitress did try her very best. She was most attentive and did relay our concerns to the management/kitchen staff . Sadly no one from management came to offer an apology

Had lunch at The Balgarth Pines the other day and I can honestly say it’s the best meal we’ve had in a long time. I had cauliflower hash browns as a starter and a gourmet burger for the main. My wife had chicken strips with a chilli sauce to begin with, then fish and chips as a main. All four dishes were excellent. The service from Nathan and Arlene was first class and it was nice to get a quieter table for a change. We felt the last time we were there that the seating in some parts of the restaurant was too close together and you could hear the conversation going on next to you. Menu choice was still a bit limited but it was an Itison deal and the menu had been changed a little from our last visit. We certainly recommend The Balgarth Pines for a meal and we’re already planning another visit in the near future. 👌

This place is fantastic. I cannot fault anything about it. Food was amazing, setting was lovely with a big roaring fire and the staff could not have been more attentive and polite with nothing being too much trouble. Defo worth a visit 😊 x

I recently came here with my partner for a bit of dinner we booked a table in advance. We were very excited to see that the place was dog friendly. So we came with the dog after our walk. We had a high seat and table close to the bar area which was really nice. We got three corses from the two and three course menu which is definitely a good should big portions lovely food for £21 per person definitely can’t complain. Our sever Lindsey was very ver kind and polite she looked after us and the pooch very well even getting the dog a bowl of water. We definitely will be returning.

Best Breakfast I've ever had and I've had a lot. Plate was nice and hot service was great.

Had to wait 45 minutes for our table ushered to a table it wasn't cleared then we were offered a drink waited other 10 minutes then ushered to our table ordered food had to wait 5-10minutes between servings food was cold and edible book 7:30 lift at 9:30 without sweets grandchildren didn't want to wait all of us just fed up just wanted to go home. ( Don't be the last customer you end up with the last of the food won't be back i told the staff they said nothing they could do ).

Very friendly staff friendly atmosphere food was great, Sunday dinner fantastic for the prices.

The menu features a wonderful selection of dishes, all beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor. The staff are friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. Whether for a special occasion or a casual night out, it’s a must-visit spot!

First visit food was fantastic, and the price was very reasonable highly recommend will definitely be back soon staff were friendly and prompt ,and the food was as we like it roasting hot , puddings were also delicious

Food was excellent and a great varied menu. Would definitely return a lot more often but the kids meals I found to be overpriced. £8 for a small macaroni with some chips for a 1 year old just seems expensive compared to other local restaurants.

Two course menu was great value and good portions. Would recommend going if you are in the area. Only twenty minutes away from The Ranch caravan park.

Although we've eaten at The Balgarth fairly regularly, we hadn't tried their steak night before. We both chose 8oz fillet, mine to be cooked 'medium'. It was perfect! Lovely with a choice of sauces (I chose garlic butter) & it came with mushrooms, chips & tomato. My partner also had the prawn cocktail starter which he said was really good & a very generous amount of prawns. Very good food at a great price. We'll definitely be back.

It is a really nice place to meet up with friends and relax. Great atmosphere, great staff, and excellent food. A place to celebrate big milestones. To have a reunion. Or just relax with friends. It has a great beergarden to sit outside when the weather is good. You can order drinks from your table. Staff are very friendly and helpful . You will pay a little more than most places, but it is well worth it.

Lovely surroundings with very polite and interesting active staff especially Amelia I think she was called a lady blonde hair and glasses . Very prompt service . Good food . Good ambience highly recommended

If you want an extra special place to take the Mrs this is definitely brownie points food was amazing so tender 100% heading back there when we're passing and the staff were awesome couldn't do enough for you no waiting and very friendly and family orientated. We had the duck and lamb dish never tasted anything like it it was melts in your mouth And my Mrs is very fussy it's very reasonably priced.

If you’re looking for good quality steaks at a fantastic price go no further than The Balgarth Pines. Had an incredible T Bone with peppercorn sauce, seasoned and cooked to perfection. Likewise my wife had a Sirloin. Staff were really attentive and pleasant. Overall an amazing experience.

We had a family meal hear on the 15th August the food wasn't nice our starters were all wrong I asked for a steak as it was steak night well done it was half cooked daughter wanted a steak to she got something else dessert we had to wait ages.

Lovely afternoon. Food was delicious. Server could have been a bit more pleasant. Felt rushed at the end as they obviously needed the tables bk for later dinners but with 20 of us lunch took longer than if it was just a table of 4. This should be taken into consideration for larger groups.

Had better fish and chips in other restaurants for a lot less money. Would not be in a hurry to rush back

We pre-booked as had a big group of us but were sat on separate tables in the same area and then treated as separate with food coming out at different times. We specifically asked for the children’s food to come out first as they were getting agitated because they were hungry and they were waiting the longest even after we had bought this to their attention. We spoke to the manager about how we were dissatisfied with the fact the children waited 50 minutes for food and all they said was thanks for your feedback. Highly disappointed especially as they had plenty of notice that a bigger group was coming. Having said this it seems like a lovely place with good kids play area and nice atmosphere.

Strange set up. Nice enough but doesn't quite seem to know what it is, restaurant or bar. We only went fir a drink. Don't recommend, no atmosphere. Probably nicer for eating

Welcoming restaurant with a friendly service team. Meals we ordered were very flavourful and portions are substantial, we enjoyed our meal but had no room left for desert. They were out of several liqours at the time of our visit so we had cocktails instead which were very nice.

Ate here as a larger party. Starters were nice. Majority of mains were terrible. A couple enjoyed their mains but around 6 didn't. Sunday roast was shocking poor. Beef was the fattiest piece of beef I've ever seen in my life. Roast potatoes looked and tested like they had be cooked several hours before. The Yorkshire was so bad too. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't frozen. It was like cardboard and tasteless. A couple had cajun chicken crepe (I've had these last year and it was the reason I hadn't been back until now). The chicken in them very much resembles frozen cubed chicken. It was horrible. Pizza would have been nice had it been cooked right through. Middle of pizza was uncooked. The last time we came was about a year ago and it was a similar experience. Starters nice and mains really bad. Definitely wouldn't recommend if you like decent quality food and not what would appear to be frozen at least for some parts of the meal. Restaurant is lovely. And the outdoor area is great. But with poor food I couldn't go back

The Balgarth's beer garden is large, beautifully tended, and has plenty of outdoor seating and tables for all fresco drinking and dining. Perfect for sunny days! The menu is extensive with something to suit all tastes including vegetarians. They have a function suite too and it can get pretty busy, so its worth booking a table if you are planning to eat there. Plenty of free parking. Pleasant staff. Smart decor. Friendly welcoming vibe. Prices aren't unreasonable. A pint of Heverlee is around £6 and there are various dining deals available for example Steak Night. It's also a good family pub by day and dog friendly. 🐕 Pictures pain a thousand words so I'll add a few photos at some point.

Went to a jazz lunch. The food was fine and the music was fantastic. A really nice touch was that we had a couple of niggles about the veg being a bit underdone and so the cost of our coffee was deleted from the bill

Just been here tonight with our family. Age ranging from 18 months to 67. What a fantastic meal we had with lots of choice to suit the whole party. The staff were lovely, the service faultless and the prices fair. Will definately be back next year when on our annual holiday at the Craig Tara caravan park. Thank you so much

We have been coming to the Balgarth in Ayr for many years with our little dog and were looking forward to returning for breakfast. Only to see that everything had changed in the restaurant and the only table they would offer us was highback stools and an even higher table. I told them that I had a bad back and wouldn't be able to sit on them. However, they wouldn't accommodate and didn't seem bothered, so we got up and left. Ended up at the Fox and Willow, which is an amazing place. It was very dog friendly place and lovely food and the staff were amazing. Sad to say, we won't be returning to the Balgarth.

Great choice for lunch menu - 2 courses 12.95 or the three courses £15.95. Food and service first class…. Plenty of parking space….. you will not be disappointed! What’s not to like??

Birthday dinner for myself with my partner and it was really good! Our waitress Megan was so lovely the entire time, and was super helpful. Our starters and mains did come out at the same time, but our starter were just the nachos, so could have easily eaten it after without worrying it was cold, food was amazing, although the cheesy fries states they came with a cheese sauce which they did not, but were still delicious. Would definitely come again, amazing food and excellent service!

Dog seating area was allocated to high stools next to the garden exit and kitchen door. Bar stool was not solid, but I sat on it. Unable to get the pizza I wanted and so we finished our pints and left.

Was in last night for dinner and it was a poor experience from our previous visit, the starter BFC Korean Crispy Chicken was tasteless and barely warm, My partner ordered King Prawn, Haddock and Salmon Gratin but quickly asked the person if she could have Chicken Swiss instead and they said yes, I ordered Cajun Spiced Chicken. 10 minutes later the order came and the kitchen sent out the Gatin and Chicken Swiss, When we said that wasn’t out order they apologised to the Gratin away and said they would correct the order, rather that the Chicken Swiss go cold my partner started eating but there were pieces of overcooked mash in her meal , my Cajun Chicken came 10 minutes later as my partner was finishing hers, also there was a board advertising a Sweet Special the order was taken only for the server to return and say there was none left, Hopefully this is a one of experience as you usually exceed these standards.

Was at this beautiful restaurant for a family dinner .The steaks were cooked to perfection and the salmon dish was delicious. Presentation. service and attention we were given was first class Would definitely recommend the Balgarth for a bite to eat .we will be back .Thank you .

Coffee with something tasty. We met some nice waitresses. That is at least 50% of your experience. The coffee was delicious and so was the cake.

Came here for a family birthday meal. Chose this place due to the local caught langoustines on the menu displayed online. When arrived the menu was completely different (no langoustines) and we were then told the menu on the website is out of date. We had young kids with us and all only ordered one course. Took an hour for food to come out, then steaks were over cooked. Service was very slow however I did get a fillet steak refunded as it was ordered medium rare, but came more cooked than well done, which was good of them. Felt the place was a bit disjointed (some old fashioned crockery, some ultra modern etc). The menu is very expensive, would be fine paying this for quality, but very disappointed with what we received.

Family meal, excellent service from staff. The food was ok, but two of our meals had to go back to the kitchen as not what was requested. This was promptly rectified. Really busy place

Have visited The Balgarth various times over the last decade, Each time really hoping for a better experience but sadly it never is. Most recently went with family, on Sunday, and once again were really disappointed, Waited for such a long time to have our order taken and then another long wait for the food to arrive. Only 1 out of 5 meals had any actual flavour, so much so that 2 of the meals were barely touched, we unfortunately did mention to the staff and they had no quarrels in taking the 2 meals off the bill, which suggests to me this happens a lot.. It really is such a shame because it’s such a lovely looking place with an exceptional beer garden, but the service is never good and the food is always tasteless.

Excellent meal here for get together with family. Went on a Thursday to partake of the great offer of half price steaks and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious, steaks just as we wanted them and service friendly and efficient.

We went here to try the two course lunch menu that was being advertised, when we arrived we were given the a la carte menu, I then asked the waitress for the two course menu and was told that they don’t do such a menu and was shown a small sandwich selection on the back of the drinks menu, if I wanted something smaller. They also had advertised on social media that they had a steak deal on that day, but wasn’t offered or told about it in the restaurant. After ordering from the menu given, we noticed a different table ask for the set price menu and were given it. When I was paying the bill I mentioned the above issues and was told that they had a new a la carte menu and they were trying to not give out the set menu, but the next time I was in to make sure I ask her for the menu and she would give it to me. Should they not just let the customer choose which menu they want? The food and service was fine, just disappointed that what was being advertised on social media was not presented or communicated when actually in the restaurant. I did speak to the manager after and was just told sorry about that. Probably won’t be back which is a shame as it was nice inside and had a play garden for the kids outside.

My son & I had a lovely lunch today! Food was so tasty, hot and not a lengthy wait! Ambience was lovely, Staff so friendly would highly recommend and we certainly will be back!

3 course set menu .. before 8pm was 15.95 pounds . All full portions and very tasty . Nachos starter was very nice 😊 . Fish n chips a bargain and desert sublime . Why pay and go anywhere else !

The place is obviously changed hands decor and cleanliness but really nice but the service was appalling went in at 1.30 i'm just as well we weren't going anywhere in a hurry mainly one course and drinks left the Balgarth at 3.30. Some of my chips well cremated some of my sons chips but undercooked not the best advert for a restaurant needs to really buckets ideas up a lot it used to be a first class establishment or lose a lot of trade if it doesn't move quickly to re-establish the standards that its need to be

Difficult to rate, we were seated immediately and order taken, however waited 45 minutes and food never arrived so we left. It's a nice looking place and people seemed to be enjoying the food. But we were so disappointed, my wife and I were starving so couldn't wait any longer.

We are a family of two adults and one child. On our first night in Ayr, having travelled from Greater Manchester, we were all feeling rather tired and hungry. We found The Balgarth Pines and we eagerly ventured inside. Our visit was an absolute delight! My partner thoroughly enjoyed his steak, claiming "it just melts in your mouth". The only tiny criticism from my partner was there was no salad to accompany his meal, which cost £29.00. Our son was served a generously-sized, homemade, Margherita pizza. I ordered the mac 'n' cheese which was honestly the nicest I have tasted in quite some time! The quality of food was excellent. The staff were busy (Easter holidays) but they handled their work efficiently. We even got into a three way conversation with the staff and a local couple sat on a nearby table. Lovely, friendly people!

Had dinner at the Balgarth Pines last night and it was half price steak night. We ordered a sirloin and a T-Bone, fries and pepper sauce. The steaks are from a local butcher Pollok Williamson and they are amazing. Martin and his team look after you so well. Honestly do not pay crazy prices, these steaks are the best in Ayrshire.

Stopped here and hoc for a drink to get out of the rain with the kids and dog in tow... We were welcome into the bar straight away, although we only wanted a drink we had to buy some bar snacks as kids could only be in the bar area if eating and we could only be in the bar area with the dog....we were happy to accommodate the rules. The atmosphere was good, quiet and cosy. We had drinks and some fries and nachos to share. Came quickly and was great. We decided to eat here again for dinner the following evening as we had been dismally let down by the facilities on our holiday site up the road. We were not disappointed. The food was top notch. We were lucky to land on steak night where the steaks were half price so that was even better all cooked to perfection and great service. The kids were entertained between courses with the play area outside in the beer garden. All in all a really great place to eat and have a cosy drink.

Absolutely loved this place, food was great. Mac cheese was the best I have had in a long time and my partner was very impressed with his chicken burger. Staff were all great and attentive. Definitely be back the next time we are in Ayr.

Went in for a breakfast at 10 am with my partner and my 2 dogs asked to sit outside as it was a lovely morning and was told by the supervisor named Janice that it was to cold and our food would be cold .we said we didn't mind she then kept going on that we should sit inside after repeating ourselves saying we wanted to sit outside she said what do you want then !! No menu given .my partner said we won't bother you then and we went elsewhere.!. This women should not be working with the public @ wont be back.

Friendly helpful staff when making phone booking informative and helpful. Been several times lately. The food is soooo good especially steak nite. An absolute treat. Everything cooked to perfection. I've eaten at the balgrarth a few time and always had a reasonable meal. The menu look varied and interesting but when we said we had a voucher the menu was replace with one that was very limited and plain. On the plus side the staff were great and couldn't do enough for us.

We have came here at least 4 or so times a year for 7 or so years , tonight was shocking , terrible wait for drinks , starters arrived and had to keep asking about drinks , the to be informed cocktail out of stock , order a strawberry daiquiri and 5 mins or so our cocktail machine broken so just take a Coke starters finished and drinks arrive one starter was totally wrong also , main courses were ok but not as hot as would expect , but bar staff snappy when speaking not the waiter .We decide enough and don’t take deserts . Starter taken off bill but charges £11 for 2 small bottles of water, amended and blame conveniently places on young waiter which is not justified by the others or duty manager, if he was so new someone should have been overlooking him instead of scapegoat being made. We won’t be back ! So disappointed not the young waiter he was apologetic and seemed sincere . Also just before leaving cocktails appear to being made ingredients miraculously appeared !

Used our itison voucher here and the choice and quality on the menu was excellent. Added to that the service was polite and efficient with every member of staff who served us. Well worth a visit folks.

Great place to stop over for a cuppa and a toasted scone during our walk

My son's 40th birthday celebration couldn't have gone any better, the new function room is lovely. I want to thank Janice & her team for ensuring everything went smoothly, the food was delicious & well presented. Would definitely recommend.

We ate at The Balgarth Pines last month on a Itison voucher deal, which was given as a birthday present. The meal was ok but the menu was very restricted. What didn’t help was the fact that the tables where we were seated were practically touching. You could hear the conversation between the ladies next to us so clearly. The premises has undergone a refurbishment last year and it hasn’t half changed the appearance, what a job they’ve done. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, especially the young man who was front of house. It’s been a long time since we ate here previously and based on this experience we would probably return because it really is a beautiful restaurant and outdoor seating area. However I think we would choose from the normal menu due to the lack of selection on the Itison one.

We came upon this place by accident, while looking for lunch near the rugby club. The food was excellent - particularly the beef - and even though there was a function taking place, the service was impeccable. We shall definitely return!

We had a beautiful meal here on Monday afternoon. Food was excellent and staff were brilliant. So well looked after. Look forward to returning very soon.
