I ate from the Lucky Star years ago and it was amazing, so when I noticed it on Ayr Eats app tonight I thought I'd try it again. I'm sorry to say I was sorely disappointed. The fish was rubbery and the smell was disgusting. I tried a small piece but it wasn't good at all - the smell alone was off putting. I took the batter off and gave my wee kitten the fish. Her breath has been so smelly all night as a result and she has just brought it back up. Feel terrible for her, but glad I never ate it. The black pudding was gorgeous though but the chips were undercooked and greasy. Price was good but only good if the meal was nice, which it wasn't. I feel bad giving a bad review for an Ayr institution but definitely won't be back. I had to take the leftover fish outside to the bin as the smell was so, so bad.

Decent sausage supper the other day. Was sceptical about trying it as a long long time ago its was seriously hit and miss and def more misses. Price wise ok. Everything is pricey these days. Would def go again.

The chips, were delicious although lots of little scraps. The haggis was huge but tasteless. Lots of bones in the fish and the grave was the lumpiest grave I have ever seen

Asked for extra crispy and didn’t get these but still nice anyway. A bit more attention to the cooking and it would be brilliant chippy.

Notification was received that the food was out for delivery at 18:07. At 18:35 I contacted the shop to ask about the food as I noticed that the delivery time had been changed from 18:30 to 18:40 to 19:00. I was concerned that the food would be delivered cold . I was informed that they had hit the wrong button on my order and that the food had just left. The food was delivered at 18:45 and it was cold. I won't be using the delivery service again.

Excellent fresh fish, best in AYR. Fritters really nice. Only place I can find curries red kola. Would highly recommend for takeaway. The owner and staff very friendly. Call in each time in AYR.

Did not get a buttered roll..even though I paid for one.

Ordered fish & chips meal deal w/ mushy peas and curry sauce. Chips were undercooked, fish was tiny (basically just batter), never received the mushy peas. Curry sauce was okay though 👍🏻 First & last I'll use here

This has got to be one of the best hidden chip shops ever discovered on a recent visit to ayr every thing is cooked to order and the couple of times I've been there it's always busy both in the shop and deliveries now I have visited 2 chip shops and the lucky star wins hands down what a chippie should be in my opinion reasonably priced great staff and quality food looking forward to my next visit ps sorry no photos never last long enough to take any

Take away very busy. Order too over an hour amended delivery. Only one driver however food came and it was delicious. These things happen.

Ordered 5-6 food actually came near 8pm this is the second time in a row it's been late there won't be a third!!!

Although I waited 2 hours for delivery food was tasty, fresh and hot.

Although we enjoyed the food, the two hour delivery time dampened the overall experience.

I am not happy with how long my food took to come it said it was delayed then took a further hour to come, I ordered it 6:15 and it came at 8, and I got the delayed notification about 7 so it still took another hour and it then came cold Thankyou

Chips were a bit burnt and rubbery , no salt and vinegar like I asked for , sausage was overcooked and hard and saturated in salt and vinegar, had to throw away .

The chips were not cooked properly and very greasy the haggis tasted as though it was three days old and out of a bin the sausages were ringing with oil will not be going back to them

food was ordered about half 8 and was never delivered and couldn’t do anything as they closed at nine,delivery driver was clearly hungry🤣

Fish was amazing, crispy golden batter and fresh and tasty inside. Chips roasting hot and golden. Only issue would be there’s no option to select if you want salt and vinegar

Been going here for 30 years. That makes me incredibly sad and depressed tbh, but their fish and chips make it all better.

Chips were cold, batter on fish was overdone, coleslaw was cheap and nasty!

Four of us got fish and chips yesterday after a lovely day out . They were awful .The chips were cold and very fatty .Fish was tired and grey ..did not taste nice … only edible when covered with brown sauce ! Obviously this was the end of the day but the owner should be ashamed to sell such food !!! One of our group is suffering with an upset tummy today and is quite unwell !!! We will not be back .

My local chippy won't go anywhere else best in the town

This is the 3rd time the lucky star have either delayed or cancelled the order so I won't be ordering from here again.

The Number 1 go to Chip Shop in Ayr and Prestwick! Quality guaranteed every time! Food is amazing and always piping hot!

Fish supper meal with curry sauce & a drink brilliant food still hot when it arrived & very tasty. Only thing I didn’t get was the mushy peas I’ve not had mushy peas for years but food was so tasty made up for it. Will be ordering again & will try the mushy peas then.
