My family and friends met here for a wake . The hotel provided a private area with the warmest of welcomes. Sandwiches and sausage rolls ,tea , coffee and drinks were served . We were constantly being checked that we had everything or needed more. Later we all had the most generous and delicious portioned meals. The menu met all our varied needs . Everything was efficiently served and the team were extremely helpful. Thank you Sunninghill.

Went out for supper for two nights running and the quality of food, presentation, menu was excellent. Between us we had: starters - mussels (best mussels by far in over 35 years), soups mains - seatrout, haddock, venison, burger, macaroni and steak sweets - sticky toffee pudding, apple tart, nougat with passionfruit sorbet, icecreams This is out of season, a smaller menu than possibly on offer in the summer and without hesitation I would go back again for a couple more nights choosing something more off the menu. Staff were attentive and very nice. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to absolutely anyone.

Had a great meal for 5 people for my mums birthday. I had the breaded lemon sole which I normally have which was succulent and flavoursome. My brothers large haddock was excellent and the batter was perfect. Scampi was large and plentiful. Breaded haddock was delicious. Also the banana fritters were super good. Ambience and service was impeccable - lovely people.

Nice environment and the decor was good. We had a nice dinner but the waitress we had was very abrupt and quite frankly unfriendly so we weren't sure how to approach that. She told us we could sit at a table but we had to go order drinks after no service came. We also asked for the dessert menu but it never appeared so we decided best was to leave. Throughout there were only 2 tables being served so we didn't understand why we were left, understandable if busy. The younger blonde lass at the bar was very nice and apologetic for the bad service which somewhat made up for the bad experience. Overall it was alright the food was nice enough but for a quiet weekday I expected more.

We stayed at the hotel and ate at Station Road whilst there. The tasting menu 'Mor' was really out reason for staying and it didn't disappoint (neither did the hotel!). Started with a drink by the fire - a beautiful part of the hotel. Really excellent selection of drinks, nothing else you could possibly ask for. Great wine selection too, included a wide variety of British wines which is nice to see. The tasting menu started here too - with some small plates served. Creative cooking and tasty. We went for the worldwide wine pairing menu and were served a varied and interesting variety throughout. The lady serving the wines (I think maybe the owner of the hotel) was very knowledgeable and friendly - talked us through each course and wine as they arrived. The food was good, each course was different and interesting. Smoked eel and venison were delicious and stand outs for us - there was also some bread made freshly with grain native to the local areas, and the butters served with this were without a doubt some of the best I've ever tasted! The speed of service we found a touch slow - although this is very much tied to the cadence of other diners so not really a criticism. Start to finish, we were over 3 hours - so a long meal. Portions were very small (the perils of a tasting menu) and we did end the meal a little peckish! The 'Beag' menu featured similar styles of cooking but focused around some larger main dishes. Restaurant itself was beautiful, clearly a huge amount of attention to detail has gone into the whole experience. No doubt about it, it was an expensive meal - but I feel not unreasonable for the quality of cooking. Given the location, some premium on pricing is to be expected. One of the best dining experiences I've had in the North Central/East Highland, and in a beautiful part of the world. Fingers crossed for a star - well deserved for the whole team.

Stopped here for a light lunch. Greeted with a smile. Lovely location, looking out to sea. Whole establishment has great light. Service was excellent. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. Didn't have to ask for anything, including brown sugar , which was in sachets on the table. Hooray!! Finally a place that offers it without having to plead. I had a prawn sandwich which came on lovely fresh bread. Daughter had an egg mayo sandwich. Couldn't believe how swiftly the food came out to everyone . They were very busy. All ages. Definitely one of the most enjoyable lunches I've had in a long time. Whole establishment was spotless. Don't drive by. Stop and enjoy a very pleasant experience. 10 out of 10 from me. And I don't say that very often!!

We went to the Shieling twice when we were staying in Poolewe. Firstly just for a snack and drink after a walk however ended up having soup and a sandwich which was very generous in portion size “he doesn’t do small “ the waitress said laughing. I had mushroom soup which was delicious and my partner had the Cullen Skink which she declared the best ever! As it was so good we booked to return with our friends for lunch on the Friday, we all had fish and chips or scampi all of which were really fresh and tasty. The staff are really helpful and friendly and service was great. I would definitely recommend the Shieling if you are in the area but booking ahead especially in high season and weekends are a must.
