Bijou By The Sea in Moray

Lovely location right on the foreshore. Easy access by bus and car (there is ample parking, with dedicated disabled badge holders space). The coffee is very good and the cake portions are enormous! I ate half and took half home. (They can provide a take away box, but I just used a napkin as the boxes were polystyrene - maybe cardboard would be better? )

Been to BBYS a few times recently and we both thoroughly enjoyed the well prepared and presented food. The salad in particular was one of the tastiest we've had. Service could not be bettered, especially as the place was very busy today (we had the last parking space). Staff were very efficient and polite. Interestingly, what with the present 'cost of living' scenario, we both thought the prices were better than reasonable. Ten out of ten

We had a super family lunch here last week in brilliant sunshine on the beach ..just perfect. The service was quick and the waitresses bright and fun ... and even when my grandson asked for a baked potato with bacon on the side, our lovely waitress said you can have whatever you want! He was delighted. We will go back

we walked over from Findochty and earned the huge cake that they now seem to serve. The coffee was ok and the staff are all friendly enough. We had thought about coming back for lunch at some point but didnt feel it was special enough.

Walked in the door and was met by an arrogant waitress who was not very helpful when we asked for a table for two adults and two children was then informed we were blocking the door as we waited for a table we were given a table and ordered our food we were made to feel very uncomfortable by the waiting staff they were constantly looking at us a pizza and portion of chips took 45mins to arrive the chips were ok but the pizza was very disappointing as it was greasy and the cheese was very plastic tasting a good day at a classic car show has been tarnished definitely not going back to this establishment

What a place this is, I’ve been down multiple times for brekkie, lunch or just a coffee, everything is always fantastic and I never understand how they get negative feedback sometimes but not often ( maybe people are impatient or don’t understand busy periods and sometimes the staff can be exhausted or overwhelmed ) I have been down at quiet times and busy and it’s always first class service and they try so hard to please everyone and try to make sure they remember every table and if we are missed because they are busy we simply and politely ask for assistance or if we can order something else and they are always apologetic and strive to get to us quickly as they can, and that’s all they can do. I do feel I had to jump in and defend the staff here as for what I see their goal is to please everyone and sometimes some people can’t help but find fault in everything and simply like to pick hospitality staff a part ( sad really) I can see they are a team that get on great and work well together and you don’t see that often. Anyway the food is fantastic and if not the staff and kitchen are always happy to take it back and get it sorted for you as quick as they can without any issues. I myself have never had a bad meal and the new drinks they are always making are always superb and made with such perfection. Keep up the good work Catch staff, kitchen and front of house as you are all fantastic and deserve all the credit you can get. From a fellow hospitality worker x

We arrived at 4.08 and were told they had stopped serving food at 4pm. We wanted a proper meal and not chip shop food that was available outside from a van. We ate there yesterday around 3.45 and had two very average meals but as it’s the only eating place close to where we are staying we thought we would use it again today. All in all after our two experiences we won’t be returning. One positive is that the restaurant is very clean.

Good choice on the menu even for myself who is a vegan. Friendly, efficient staff. Service was quick. Food was good . We shall return

Beautiful new & bright cafe on the shore with stunning views over the Moray Firth. Attentive friendly staff & good choices on the menu. Cullen Skink thick & delicious, just a little salty for my taste so asked for some hot milk to add - perfect! BLT was loaded with tasty chicken breast & bacon accompanied by a lovely salad & homemade coleslaw. Cakes looked fabulous but didn’t have the room - next visit! Most tables were reserved at lunchtime so best to book, but we were lucky to get in. Would highly recommend.

First time visiting The catch bijou by the sea and sadly won’t return. Very young and inexperienced staff that really would benefit hospitality training Our meal arrived to our table and we noticed another waitress giving cutlery to a table with their meal .. we waited for cutlery whilst meal was on table but was never coming so had to get up to get our own.. My chicken was very dry to the point were I could not eat it just ate some chips . No one came over to ask if everything was alright. Young waitress cleaned a table beside us with bleach whilst trying to eat don’t think you should be using bleach for cleaning tables this has a strong smell whilst eating and could mark your clothes.. No one came over to clear plates away so got up to go and for meal. Waitress at the till didn’t even ask if everything had been alright before taking our payment very poor service.

Visited here for lunch with my mum, beautiful setting and views over the bay. Both ordered fish and chips. 1 in normal batter and one GF. Service was swift and pleasant staff. However GF fish wasn’t fresh for sure and batter was more like sponge. Normal one was extremely greasy. Peas hard( over microwaved). Didn’t realise that I’d been charged for a full size portion which was supposed to be small. May go back for coffee but definitely not lunch again

We heard it had just reopened so we made the trip up the coast from Aberdeen. The food was amazing I had the lasagne and my husband the steak pie. Both were beautiful and good value for money. Waiting staff were also very friendly which made our visit here a 5 star. We will be back can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

Recently reopened. Excellent food. Staff very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Went twice for lunch and would have gone back again if longer holiday. Wonderful setting and spotlessly clean.

Due to lockdown we have been unable to visit this restaurant as it is a fair distance from home. However, as things are returning to some sort of normality, we decided to go for lunch. To be on the safe side we booked in advance. We were seated at a window table with a fine view out to the Moray Firth. .Alas, due to the season, there was a scarcity of wildlife. I had scampi and chips whilst my wife had breaded haddock and chips. Decent portions and the scampi was really succulent. We both had chocolate cake and cream for desert. Simply delicious. It was a pleasure to revisit this restaurant as the service was still first class. Although a bit expensive, it was worth every penny and we shall certainly return.

Lovely Fish and Chips. Fish fresh which just melted in the mouth. Chips and salad 🥗 just as good. Food restaurant quality in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Very relaxing. Would recommend you visit here.

When we arrived we were told there wasn’t a table. When we looked disappointed they decided they had a table. Same happened to a couple who came in behind us. The food was good, a little bit overpriced though. Not a great choice of alcoholic drinks, and what we asked for wasn’t available More a cafe atmosphere than a restaurant, with restaurant prices

On our October break and popped in for cake and coffee. It’s just ideal on route to or from our cottage and the staff are great. Good coffee, great cakes, plenty of options on food.

Fantastic lunch in this amazing restaurant, staff were so helpful providing information on gluten free options. The portions were huge and the quality of the food was excellent. View over the bay were lovely.......definitely recommend

Popped in for late lunch.. What a great decision that was, great food, I had special board lemon sole, scallops, and black pudding all in tempura batter, beautifully presented and great value. My wife had breaded fish that was excellent. Staff lovely, back very soon 😁

We recently dined at Bijou by the Sea, Buckie, whilst holidaying in the area. We were all so impressed I wanted to leave a review. It was a Saturday lunch and the restaurant was perfectly packed! Plenty of diners to give it that pre covid ambiance but still safely spaced for peace of mind. The menu had a bounty of choice and all 6 of us had a truly tasty meal! We also sampled the cakes and ice creams that were equally as varied and delicious! Once suitably stuffed we had a look in the gift area of the restaurant and our children were pleased to choose a Jellycat toy; from the seaside collection which we’d never seen anywhere before. We were really pleased with our experience but the absolute best part had to be the service! Every single member of staff were so lovely and attentive it just proved that the service makes it. From arrival to departure they were all fab! Would highly recommend a visit!

We visited 3 times during our holiday in Findochty, once for coffee and delicious cake, then for a very enjoyable lunch and finally for a beautiful breakfast before our journey home. The food was tasty, the service was friendly and attentive and the position on the coast made it perfect. Would definitely recommend.

Visited here for Sunday lunch and was very disppointed that most of the main course options had run out. No roast beef or fish???. This goes to show how popular this restaurant is.However we we were very happy with what was available. Food cooked to order. Staff were all very polite, friendly and efficient. All covid procedures were carried out to perfection. I will definitely go back and will recommend.

Our first time eating here as we are moving to the area. We ordered a takeaway of Scampi and a Beef Burger both with chips. My husband is hard to please when it comes to seafood and he said his Scampi was perfection. The burger too was beautiful and perfect one of the best burgers I have ever had and the chips are amazing. We look forward to eating here many times more in the future. Do NOT miss out on the amazing food here.

Visited for lunch and ate outside. Right next to the sea with wonderful views. Had a wrap with salad which was very tasty and then took a tub of ice cream to sit and admire the views. Visited here today and so glad we did, the food was absolutely delicious. The menu offers a huge choice as well as daily specials and if you have room (we were struggling) there’s a delicious selection of cakes, home bakes and gourmet ice creams which can also be taken away. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and all possible COVID measures are in place so we felt comfortable and safe. Will definitely visit again!!

We went for a cliff top walk along the Moray Firth coastal path and we found ourselves here, starving! Although busy and we hadn't booked they found us a table and the service was just lovely and friendly, the sea views are also so worth it, would definitely recommend.

Had lunch today and was absolutely delighted with freshly made fish and chips followed by a tasty tray bake and coffee...I have never ate here before but will certainly be back...also must mention the staff who looked after us very well...

Table booked for 12 but we didn’t get our food until 1315. 3 other tables came in after us and had their meal before us. When we questioned it we were told it takes a while to warm up the lasagne (which was a special that day ). The only gluten free option is a baked potato so I would avoid if you are wheat intolerant. The food was average, staff disorganised and too long to wait especially with a 2 year old.

Have walked past here on our travels every year and go into pozzi which is its sister shop in Buckie. We tried here with the kids and we loved it. Pre booking helps and the set up is safe. Staff are chatty and friendly and the cakes are good quality! Kids loved the ice cream and the cakes and we loved the sea view and the coffee. All in all a lovely place with safety measures in place, brilliant service and great food.

After visiting for Sunday brunch, we enjoyed Bijou by the Sea so much we returned for late lunch today, only just getting in, as they were so busy, not bad for a Wednesday, but with both holiday makers and locals taking in the great location and wonderful food, not a surprise!Food was terrific and staff were, once again, so pleasant, we were made to feel extremely welcome, so much so we were the last to leave, sorry.They have put a lot of effort into the social distancing and cleaning regime, trying to space everyone out and installing screens etc. while not removing the lovely atmosphere must be really difficult.Thank you for a lovely afternoon, topped off with a bracing (it is mid-October) walk along the lovely beach watching the seals in the bay, fantastic...

We ordered a prosecco picnic for our 25th anniversary holiday trip and loved it, we sat by the sea with it watching seals! Wonderful food and memory. Picnic was so good we went to Bijou for cakes etc most days and ordered a juice picnic for our overnight journey home to North Devon, chocolate crunchie cakes were amazing at 2am on the motorway Ordering, service and food quality was outstanding and the staff were lovely, very organised in the Covid situation and we felt very looked after! We will be back!

I had a brilliant time at Bijou with family. The service was of the highest quality, and I especially enjoyed the interior decor, which was inspired by the Morayshire Coast.I would also like to give an honourable mention to Kate, who was very approachable.The caramac traybake was scrummy! I'll definitely be returning.

If you're in the Buckie area and looking for a bite to eat or a cuppa and a cake then look no further!The set up of the tables for social distancing is really well done and the screens look like private booths.I had the burger with onion rings and the wife had baked potato with salad and fillings and we both throughly enjoyed our lunch. The onion rings addition to the burger was amazing and the customer service was excellent - very warm and friendly. Food is also reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

We are visiting Portessie for a few days and had a great Sunday breakfast here. Staff were great all very capable and pleasant it was a pleasure to meet them. Our breakfast was well cooked and was very tasty. We sat outside with a fabulous view of the sea . Don't miss out pop in you won't be disappointed .

Our first visit today and it definitely won’t be our last. Very friendly and helpful staff, absolutely delicious food, and sitting outside in the sun was just perfect especially with a 2 year old, who loved exploring the beach while we waited for our food. I’m already planning to take the grandparents for a coffee and cake next time. I’m so glad we happened to be driving along that way and came across bijou by the sea. Lovely surprise find.

Had lunch there today. Food excellent. Staff very friendly and professional. Felt very safe with their Covid safety measures in place. Restaurant is bright and very clean, everything is spotless. Very comfortable seating and small amount of gifts on sale. The view when you are having your meal is fantastic looking out to the sea. Would be delighted to return for lunch or coffee and cake. Large selection of ice cream too. Cannot praise this wee gem enough and it’s lovely welcoming staff. We will return but I will remember to book a table to be sure to get in. We had a relaxed breakfast this morning - scrambled egg - the best we have tasted in ages and the Canadian breakfast was a real treat. Great coffee and the cakes looked so good! Wonderful views, prompt efficient service, clean and well managed social distancing. Interesting selection of gifts and paintings. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I dropped in here at 11am today for coffees and scones. Covid safety measures are clearly displayed and sanitation points numerous. We were met at the door and escorted to our table by a super friendly waitress who noted our contact details and briefly outlined what was required of us to comply with their safety requirements. Really good and assuring. Service was first class. The scones were freshly baked and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is bright and airy. It has wonderful sea views. We watched tables being cleared and cleaned and it was thorough. Again very assuring. Overall a most enjoyable experience.

This was our second visit to Bijou. Impressed with their customer service. Having tried to book for lunch too late to get a table, they kindly phoned me back when they had a cancellation. All the staff retained a smile despite being extremely busy due to the Eat out to help out discount. Excellent Cullen Skunk and then superb cakes to follow. Thank you!

Probably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and they where gluten free! Loved the place, staff where great and very helpful in talking me through the gluten free range. Go, you won’t be disappointed! 👌

First breakfast date with hubby since lockdown. Very impressed how bijou has adapted due to this awful virus. Tables set apart, sanitisers installed and staff all wearing masks. Clear concise sinage.Felt very safe and comfortable. As always the food and service are fantastic.One of my favourite places to eat. Value for money, beautiful views and lovely staff.

Very impressed with the steps taken to comply with the Covid-19 requirements. We had originally planned to only have a coffee but decided to stay for lunch. Views from the terrace are fantastic. We had sandwiches and a coffee, very good. The staff were all very helpful. Good place to take a dog and eat outside. Well worth a visit.

So impressed with the steps that all at Bijou have taken regarding Covid safety. Felt reassured to see how they efficiently prepared each table between guests, and their polite but sensible instructions regarding the new normal in their restaurant were also reassuring. The new glass partitions strategically placed around the interior actually serve to improve the space as well as creating a safer environment ... a clever solution ... they are stylish and they serve to dampen noise and create a cosy individual space for tables, and because they are glass they still preserve the light and airy feel of the restaurant. Who knew necessity proving to be the mother of invention would also prove to enhance the already lovely interior!Oh ... and the food is still good too! I had the chicken fillets, my friend had a prawn salad, my sister had a soup and prawn sandwich combo ... all were enjoyed.

We were staying up the road in Buckie and had seen this cafe on trip advisor, had the mussels and then a panini with cullen skink which was fantastic, service is very slow though but we were happy waiting, very clean and tidy, would return

Visited with my mother in a Tuesday. Thought it might be quiet but place was busy with locals(good sign) . Nice table with sea view. Taking order was slow due to number of people in the restaurant. Ordered smoked salmon open sandwich which came with salad ,crisps and coleslaw. Brilliant flavour and tasty toasted bloomer. Well worth the money. It did take time to come but it was very fresh and worth the wait. If you want fast food there are other places to visit.

Went to this cafe/restaurant on the recommendation of friends. We were given a table without a wait, and our order was taken very quickly, but from then on the service was sooo slowww. We asked about Vegetarian food, and were offered veg soup or a salad!! Definately would not reccommend to a veggy or vegan eater. My food however was very nice and reasonably priced, but simple things like a coffee refill took over 20 minutes. Nice place with good staff if you have a day to waste and eat meat.

Was into the restaurant today for coffee and scones both delicious. Staff so welcoming and go out of their way to accomodate you. So clean and airy with a lovely view of the sea

The staff are very welcoming and the food is well cooked and presented but in spite of this, the service is slow. I hate criticising them because I always enjoy visiting them but the service I think is disorganised and slow. Sorry Bijou.

Bijou is always busy because the food and views are very good. However, the service is very slow. Only go there if you don't have time constraints.

Having been treated to afternoon tea with friends the week before , I brought my son and his wife to Bijou for lunch . we waited for half an hour after ordering ,the staff were very busy , However we enjoyed our meals ,the views and ambience , staff first class,

Came here with a group of friends after a long drive. The place is bright, clean and very modern. All our lunch were perfectly cooked and tasty. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. A perfect location for lunch stop.

We booked a table for our family on Sunday and had the most fabulous meal again. We love coming up to Bijou when we are up from Glasgow.

Went in 11.45 for lunch showing to table then asked to change chair as one had broken so we all went to change but was told it was only me that had to change this I found very offence if there was a problem then they should have been replaced when when they first broken. 11.56 placed order for food open sandwich ;panini bowl of soup and panini coffee cola 12.26 asked server if we could have another pot of tea and a coffee as we still have not got our food but the table behind me had got there food and they had came in after we came in she went to get drinks came back and told me that order was taken before 12.00 but would not be started to prepare till 12.00 now I have worked as a chef for 48 years and am the first to defend servers but the way I was spoken to I was not going to sit there so I left I did thank Kate but felt I had best leave before I said something I did not want to jimmy

I live locally and frequently come here. Took my family for lunch and they were absolutely thrilled with views service and food. Staff are super helpful and attentive. we all had haddock and chips which was delicious. Definitely reccomend.

We were staying with friends from Port Gordon for the weekend and there was only one place we wanted to lunch every time we are in the area we have to visit and as the before we were not disappointed looking forward to our next visit

What an amazing surprise! Booked a table for 3 on a Sunday and so pleased we did.

Great setting, friendly and efficient staff. Unfortunately a very long wait for three plates of soup - 35 to 40 minutes. Our soup was excellent but our friends bowl of curried cauliflower soup was not so good. Waitress apologised for the delay and said that they were a chef down at the time. Still do not understand how that explained the delay the soup coming out. In saying this we have been before and was excellent so maybe just a bad day at the office?- no charge for the curried cauliflower soup which was appreciated.

What a find we were walking from Spey-bay to Cullen and we decided to stop half way and Bijou was where we stop the food was absolutely fab staff outstanding made to feel welcome one lady was from my home town and was so pleased to hear my accent . unfortunately I did not take photos as we were starving but I will be back .I don’t think we would have found this gem if it had not been for us walking the West Coast Trail I am so glad we did

Our first visit to the Bijou. Staff were very friendly, food was very good and location was great. Access to restaurant was easy with a large carpark at the side of the building. Outside seating was available, but weather not suitable the day we visited.

Great place! Lovely food...worth the visit. Their cream of vegetable soup was very tasty!!! Also their coronation chicken (pictured) was brill

Popped in for coffee and scones following a long walk. The cheese scones were extremely tasty and huge! The chocolate, coconut and vanilla scone also delicious. Coffee was a little of a let down as quite weak but overall a lovely place with huge windows overlooking the sea.

We visited one afternoon recently, and had beautiful fresh cakes and coffee. There are various seating options, and we chose the comfy sofas by the window. The decor is very "New England" beach themed, very attractive, even down to the perspex blue/green chairs. Very tasteful.

Had lunch there today, chicken fillets with no fries, my choice, was still charged £12.95 for 4 chicken fillets , 1 bit of baby tomato and some lettuce etc. Definitely not worth the money. Also to be beside the sea and have no scampi etc not good at all.

We have come to Bijou since it opened and love it. The staff are friendly and chatty and the food is consistently great. Sometimes we have to wait for a table or the fresh food to be cooked but it is well worth it.

We both had a pannini and Cullen Skink soup decent portions and very well made . The only reason I didn't give it a top rating the serving staff need some food hygiene training one of the girls was constantly playing with her hair and on one occasion seen her biting her nails

The cafe is very pleasant, the food (including Gluten free) is great. Service was very good. And a good cup of coffee.

We went for lunch with two friends. Our friends had booked before, and you could see why that was necessary. It was very busy. Despite that, the service was both friendly and excellent. The food was exceptional and well presented. We had a comfortable table with a view over the Sea, where you can watch seals, and sometimes, dolphins.
