It’s a wonderful chip shop, great chips, sunny location and wonderful view. We had scallops . They were sublime, as good as the best restaurant anywhere and yet it’s a chip shop in Shetland. It’s worth travelling a long distance for

The reason I've given this a poor rating is because of the appalling service. We wanted to eat in the restaurant. It was a Sunday & I'd noted that the restaurant part closed on Sundays at 18:00. I would've booked but didn't know what time we'd be there. As it turned out, we were there about 16:30/17:00. There were lots of empty tables but there was a sign saying Fully Booked. I asked the young chap behind the counter if we could get a table but he said no. When I pointed out all the empty tables, he spoke to his supervisor (they were all very young) but she said no. We were disappointed but ordered a carry out anyway. This didn't take long & we sat in the car eating it. It was delicious - lovely large, fresh haddock and more than enough chips. Top marks for the food. However, I was still annoyed that we hadn't been able to have a proper meal at a table so when I went back to dispose of our rubbish, I looked in at the restaurant - even more empty tables! I pointed this out to the young whippersnapper behind the counter but he just looked embarrassed. As well he might. I don't think it was his fault but clearly the staff in charge were just too lazy & couldn't be bothered having to serve a meal inside, serve drinks, clear up afterwards etc. Just atrocious service and I see there are other comments in a similar vein.

We were lucky to get an outside table on a sunny day and had delicious fish & chips. The fish was melt-in-the-mouth. Perfect mushy peas too. Couldn't have been any better. Fantastic service from the young servers too - very polite, professional and attentive - a huge credit to Shetland. Here's to many more years of Frankie's!

A brilliant find in an area that does not have much in the way of quality eating establishments. We went for lunch and the food was of a very high quality. We were particularly impressed with the scallops. The small dining room had wonderful views and there was space to sit outside in fine weather.

We had to go to the most northern chipped. The fish and chips was great. Ambience is … a higher end chippie. It‘s a must when you are in the area, also because there aren’t many other options for dining out. Expect to smell of chippie…

Frankie’s was recommended by a friend, and did not disappoint. Excellent (breaded) haddock and chips, in a modern, friendly setting. We had booked, though takeaways are also a much in demand specialty. As Britain’s most northerly fish and chip shop, that would make Frankie’s worth a visit no matter what. But the great quality and the wide menu choices would be at home anywhere. Perhaps our issue, but we did miss not having a glass of wine. Frankie’s is a ‘dry’ venue.

This is a small restaurant looking out to the sea. It is super busy with dine in customers as well as take away. We had to book for lunch a couple of days out as there was no availability on the day we just showed up. We ordered pan fried scallops which were so good. Nicely cooked, none were over cooked and obviously very fresh. Mussels in blue cheese and bacon sauce, absolutely delicious with lots of sauce which was tangy and salty and very hot. Loved this. And we had smoked haddock in batter - a revelation! Why have I not had this before? You can tell that all the seafood is so fresh and it was all so delicious.

We called the night before to book a table for 6pm for 2. We were asked if we could make it for 5.45 but due to ferry times we would be nearer 6. We were told this was ok. Unfortunately our ferry was a few minutes late and when we arrived we were very rudely told the cafe closed at 6 ( what eating establishment closed at 6pm?) but if we ordered at the counter we could sit in. We were then glared at by the staff even though the establishment closed at 7 it was made clear that they were getting ready to leave at 7. Shame as the food was nice but felt we had to rush it down, was it explained in the phone call we would have made alternative plans.

This is an award-winning chippie, and certainly the fish and chips are very good, not the absolute best I have had in Shetland, but then Shetland is noted for outstanding fish cookery. It is ecologically sound too, big on sustainability. The surroundings are beautiful and the place itself pleasant, though oddly lacking in atmosphere. Service is brisk and efficient and prices reasonable. There's a nice outside terrace to see the views from.

We stopped in here at the end of a long tour to see Shetland’s award-winning fish & chips shop. We got the big fish & chips battered, small fish & chips panko-breaded and mushy peas. There were many other options on the menu for our meal, but we opted for the standards on our first visit. It was quite crowded, requiring either a reservation or takeaway, but food came out quickly. Overall, the food was pretty well-done. We’re certainly glad it’s here, upholding the classic tradition.

We have been going to Frankies since in inception. we "local" Unfortunately, in recent visits, the take away portions are tiny in comparison to previous. You only find this out once you have departed. In future, as this is a good "chip shop" I will be opening the box before I leave and check. This review is only made in the hope that portions well return to more favorable amount for the £13 price tag as at present my last servings were a joke.

Shame to return to Frankie’s after two years to find a big difference in what you get if takeaway rather than eating in. You only find out when you’ve driven away from the restaurant. Why ration the cheapest part of the meal - chips?! Big gaps in the smaller boxes of fish and chips (£13), and we could hold a single portion in one hand (£3.50). Tasted good, there just wasn’t enough of it. Stingy and embarrassing.

So, it's a take away chippie with a cafe. We ate in and my haddock and chips where genuinely some of the best fish and chips I have had. Fish perfectly cooked, lightly battered and not in the slightest bit greasy. Chips good. They also serve cake, which we didn't try but looks good Advice- check out the specials board and not just the cafe menu which we noticed going out. We will go back before we leave the island at the end of our holiday and hope that the special of deep fried scallops is still on!

We were trying to find a good spot to dine on a Monday (a difficult day to find food on Shetland) and our guide to us to this great place. The seafood was fresh and we were told the owner catches fish and brings it directly to the restaurant. Me and my family shared Mussels au "natural" – basically with just lemon juice and parsley, juicy and buttery pan-fried scallops, nicely flavored haddock fish cakes with fries and a fried mushroom, and a baked potato with corn. Everything was on point, except for the baked potato, which arrived cold and not so easy to enjoy. They were pretty busy though, so maybe the potato temperature fell by the wayside to fulfill so many orders.

Pay on line or by cash. One customer served at a time; and quite a restricted fish menu, but with burger / pizza / 'pudding' supper options. Not really the brilliant seafood menu that the cafe used to serve, but still excellent haddock and chips; and excellent scallops fried in the pan too - though they needed reheated when we got home. My fiancée and I were visiting Shetlands for the Lerwick Up Helly Aa festival and were staying in Brae. Frankie’s was just down the road from where we were staying at Drumquin House (amazing place by the way) and we had passed by it a couple of times during our daily tours of the island. Both of us being seafood lovers and at the recommendation of our hosts, we stopped in one evening and had a bite. I had the kettle of mussels in a spicy sauce and my fiancée had the fish and chips. The food and service were excellent! All the seafood was local, which we always try to stay local when traveling, and plenty of it. The mussels came in a kilo kettle and were marinating in a mouth watering spicy sauce and the shrimp and chips were done with perfection. The batter wasn’t greasy, the shrimp were fresh and the chips were not frozen but freshly cut and deep fried. The restaurant was clean and neat, with mostly locals enjoying dinner and the service was excellent. Should we go back to the Shetlands for another fire festival, we will be sure to put in a stop here!

This isn't just the Daddy of all Fish Restaurants this is the Mummy and the Daddy of all Fish Restaurants. To call it a fish & chip shop is to do it a disservice, it's THE Chippy. I've eaten at chippies the length and breadth of Britain and this one might be the furthest north but just like Muhammad Ali it's the greatest. Fresh caught fish freshly cooked and from a sustainable source is your go to dish, there's many others on a wonderful menu, I've sampled almost all of them without fault. Kids are catered for too with thought gone into a family experience. As a bonus the view is sensational and on special days the Orca come in so close it looks like they're enquiringly about desert. Peak times it's best to phone and book a table, but if it's the traditional take away you're after service is prompt and polite. To come to Shetland and miss out on a Frankies Fish Supper is like going to The Louvre and missing out on the Mona Lisa. Britains Best is highly recommended.

We stopped here randomly for a lunch of delicious fish and chips. Their food is fantastic. Be advised that they take reservations for their interior tables so if you want to dine indoors you should call ahead. But eating outside is as charming as it is delicious. Don’t miss it if you’re nearby.

I have been eating fish & chips for the last fifty years and genuinely can’t remember a higher quality fish & chip meal. The chips were perfect, the homemade mushy peas were great and the battered haddock generously thick, perfectly cooked with thin & crispy batter. I wish there was a place like this where I live. Well done guys!

This is the most northerly fish 'n chips shop in the British Isles. It's great! Very nice menu to choose from, very friendly service, and excellent food! Quick place to grab a bite. Even has outdoor seating with a view of the water. Great place to visit!

It’s more of a good cafe than a restaurant and it is also a caravan and motorhome site plus wigwams ( colourful wooden weatherproof huts). It’s at Braewick not Brae which is 15 miles south. It has all the facilities that a caravan/ motorhome site needs. Electric hook up, drive over drains, black water disposals, clean water available, good parking surfaces. Problem is it takes a bit of finding these facilities! Even the pitches take a bit of locating as only a couple are numbered. All the rest have been washed off, blown away etc. The showers are looking old and are difficult to manage. There is a playground and the beach is 5 mins walk but bear in mind this is 1000 km north of London, nearest neighbours are Iceland and Norway so the water is refreshing. But the views are spectacular cliffs of red rock and in the sea a set of rock stacks (the drongs) look like a Viking longship turned to stone. Wonderful to look at at midnight. You might see Foula, 40 plus km away. There are blow holes through the cliffs, take care. The Northmavine musicians play at Hillswickplus informal dancing for a great night out but it’s a 5 minute drive or an hours walk. Great place just needs an update.

Right by the ferry terminal so the ideal place to wait for a crossing. This is popular with workmen and with families. They serve a wide range of food and drinks. From snacks to full meals. From breakfasts to afternoon teas. I enjoyed a coffee and a tray bake. Would have called in twice more during my visit to Yell but it was closed.
