I went with my friends on New Year’s Day, and the food was amazing. I had two plates of oysters! Everyone had a great time and was really happy.

It’s so delicious, the portions are small, and the price is very reasonable. Everyone should try it.

Incredible pub food for people looking to seek refuge from the chilly Edinburgh weather! Just across from Greyfriar’s, so it’s very conveniently located! Darren was marvelous and took great care of us! 10/10

Beautiful room and quirky touches - lots of space and very comfortable bed plus biggest bath ever(!) in room 12. Really friendly and perfect base for exploring Edinburgh and eating at Layla

My partner and i decided after being at the xmas festival on princess street to go in for a drink on the way to our hotel to end a nice evening , when entering, the bar staff were staring at us because my partner stumbled a bit , he is very unsteady on his feet and legs due to nerve damage , we were questioned by staff at the counter and then told we wont be served , not tonight , i was very disgusted as they just refused any exlanations , wont be visiting again , there pub was quite empty , i wonder why ....

Absolutely fabulous. From the venue, the greeting, the decor, the food and the service, it could not have been better. Will be definitely be back.

Great service, really good food

We enjoyed afternoon tea in the afternoon. The large grounds were beautiful and green. All the cakes were beautiful, delicate, and delicious without being too sweet. The scone was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and firm throughout, with a grainy texture. It was cold from the beginning, so I wanted it to be served warm. The savory was quite good, and it wasn't too much and was the size that I could eat it all. Although it was a wonderful reception room with a nice view from the window, it was a disappointing shop. I made a reservation by entering my card number from the official website. When I tried to pay after finishing my meal on the day of the meal, I was told that it was not necessary. I thought I was paying by card that I entered on the website. Later, I received a double payment from the credit card company I entered. I contacted the hotel and store via email about 5-6 times, but there was no response. After consulting with my payment card company, I managed to get one charge stopped. What should I do if there is no response even though the amount is large? It's a shame considering it's a historic hotel and store. I had planned to go there next time I came to Edinburgh, but I decided against it. Please deal with the basics properly. If you are making an online reservation and can enter your card number, please order.

Home made type food is really good though my last meal of the butchers steak pie was 100% nuked in the microwave as some of the steak pieces turned into stone.

Loved the chilli beef nachos on our first visit so had to go back again, to try the haggis nachos (which were even better!) Food took a little longer on second visit (was busy!), but offered us a free drink before we said a word. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We will be back!

Really disappointing Sunday Roast, cold, tough, potatoes weren't roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding both burnt and cold. Bizarre considering the other reviews. Felt like it was last Sunday's roast heated up. Expect better for the price, can't recommend.

Nos alojamos aquí para el mercado de Navidad. Absolutamente brillante lugar. La comida era muy buena, el desayuno especialmente, porciones tamaño hombre adecuado. Tuvimos nuestras cenas aquí también que eran excelentes, el pescado estaba delicioso. Las habitaciones están limpias y muy cómodas. Yo estaba enfermo en nuestro segundo día y el miembro del personal no podía hacer lo suficiente para mí y mi marido, un joven verdaderamente encantador. Un lugar cálido y acogedor para alojarse. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente, fácil de entrar en la ciudad en autobús, que era increíblemente barato y tan encantadores conductores serviciales. Edimburgo me ha dejado boquiabierto, definitivamente voy a volver 🤗
