Excellent value roast beef lunch, good portion, served with excellent selection of veg and tender beef. Spoilt by the food and plates being lukewarm. Should have sent food back to be warmed up but we were very hungry,

Where do I begin, what a hidden gem. We were recommend the Thai Kitchen by family who live in the lovely village of Blagdon. What a lovely restaurant, from the moment we walked through the door to finishing our amazing dinner. The staff service and food were amazing. Well worth a trip to Blagdon for this gem of a restaurant.

Review for The Churchill in Churchill – Christmas Meal Price: £84.95 per person As regulars who have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at The Churchill, we were excited to book our Christmas meal here. We arrived at midday, but despite this being a pre-planned and pre-paid event, we waited an excessive amount of time to be served any drinks. When the drinks did arrive, many options were unavailable, and others—like the Prosecco—were served at the wrong temperature. We understand that handling a full house during a Christmas service can be overwhelming, but the issues we encountered were not about timing—they were about the quality and care (or lack thereof) put into the food and drinks served. The food was, quite frankly, unacceptable for a Christmas meal, especially at this price point. There seemed to be a fundamental lack of understanding of basic seasoning, cooking methods, and what people might want to eat at a festive gathering. The advertised “festive nibbles” turned out to be cheap maize snacks, bland cheese on sticks, and canned pineapple. There was no creativity or effort here, just a lazy attempt to fill the table with something—anything—regardless of quality or taste. Each starter showed a lack of care and understanding of the dishes: • French Onion Soup: This classic French dish is renowned for its rich, flavorful broth and a topping of gratinated cheese. What we received was a watery, flavorless liquid with a few onions floating in it. There was no depth, no seasoning, and no respect for the dish. • Bruschetta: This Italian staple was rendered unrecognizable—a thick, dry slice of bread (with no butter or olive oil) topped with three halved cherry tomatoes. It was unimaginative, unseasoned, and wholly unappetizing. • Mushrooms: These were described on the menu as being prepared with pancetta, shallots, and panko breadcrumbs. What arrived were flavorless mushrooms topped with bland cheddar. None of the promised elements were present, and the dish was devoid of texture and seasoning. The roast dinner was marginally better but still lacked the care and thoughtfulness expected of a Christmas meal: • Mixed Vegetables: These were dry, flavorless, and uninspired. • Roast Potatoes: Cheap white potatoes had been used, resulting in soapy-tasting roasties, some of which were burned. Proper preparation and seasoning could have resolved this easily. • Turkey: Moist and well-cooked, this was the one redeeming element, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the plate’s shortcomings. Desserts were a final disappointment. Not only were we not informed that ice cream was unavailable, but the crème brûlée served was far from the classic French dessert it should have been. It arrived with canned squirty cream and chopped strawberries—an amateur presentation that showed no understanding of the dish. We attempted to share our feedback with staff but were met with defensive and aggressive responses. This kind of reaction is unacceptable in hospitality and further soured our experience. As someone with extensive experience in hospitality, I understand the challenges of running a busy kitchen and catering to large groups, but the issues here stemmed from a lack of care, knowledge, and effort. The food demonstrated a fundamental misunderstanding of basic cooking techniques, seasoning, and menu planning. At £84.95 per person, this meal was not even close to the standard expected, and it certainly wasn’t reflective of the price.

What a wonderful pub! Easily missed, since off the main road, but so pleased we found it. Cosy, rustic pub serving excellent wholesome and tasty food. Lunch time only menu and with only a few choices, but every dish is an absolute joy. The service of the great food and drinks is also superb, with plenty of choice of local ciders and beers. Such a rarity to find such a real gem these days!

If you’re heading out from Bristol airport or just in the area, this place is a must. The rooms, staff & food are all spot on! Really well priced too! Top job.

Stopped here for the first time and so glad we did. The welcome was warm and friendly. The carvery was amazing hot tasty and great value for money. Lot's of choice from the carvery and vegetables were also cooked very well. I would recommend booking as it was almost full when we got there at 3pm and was still very busy when we left st 5pm .

On the way to the airport, the building itself looked nice but this didn’t extend to the interior which is tatty and tired. The menu is fairly sparse and uninspiring. The place felt like it could do with a really good clean. Wife had a veggie burger which was OK but my fish (F&C) was overcooked and dry, same with the batter, cold mushy peas. Nobody checked back to ensure our food was as bland as it looked. Slow to clear up ours and others tables. The place did seem to attract some locals who had a great grasp of the local dialect including some inappropriate words that I thought had been left in the 1950s.

Nine members of a Walking Group had a lunch at this lovely Pub, a warm welcome directed us to a large table where we relaxed after a walk in this lovely locality. It wasn’t quite warm enough to sit outside in the garden which has a breathtaking view over the Lake and hills. ( A summer visit will be organised.) The food was from a wide ranging menu but I was determined to try the Cow pie. Really tasty and served with lovely Mash and roasted vegetables, excellent meal and excellent value. Several other members had fish pie which I will sample on my next visit. All the Group agreed that the food and Service was exceptional.
