I would like to make you aware of the terrible treatment I received from this property. My plane landed in the early hours of October 21st. I immediately rang them to inform them of my arrival time. A woman answered (the proprietor) and was absolutely horrible and rude towards me. She angrily told me that they tried to call me 5 times. I was on a plane when they were trying to call me. She basically told me “I’m in bed now so tough luck”. I thought this was a disgusting way to treat me and as a result, my only option was to sleep in my car. When I told her that I expected a full refund, she told me that I am entitled to nothing as I did not give 48 hours notice (how ridiculous when I did want to stay there). She could not be bothered about the fact that it meant I had nowhere to sleep. Utterly vile human and appalling customer service!!!

Stopped for a quick pint after a walk. Good choice of ales and ciders, missed the roast dinner but the left over roast potatoes on the bar were delicious. Picturesque location with a garden a stream and nice decorations inside. Only downside were the outhouse style toilets -steps to get in and not toilet paper.

Lovely location and staff. Made for a great family gathering. But just a heads up the menu prices listed on their website are not necessarily what you will pay. Roast detailed as £10.95 as a guide online, it was £15.95 when we visited.

The Plume of Feathers is a great place, staff really friendly and lots of ideas shared of where to visit. However we were told there would be an additional £10 charge for the dog, when we paid for the dew days, we're there it was £10 per day. This should have been made clear to us at booking as we found it expensive compared to other places charging only £10 for the entire stay

The outside and location of the Plume of Feathers are lovely! Shame I could not say the same for the inside and staff, very cramped in the main area and no room for prams. The owner/staff were not helpful at all, we asked to move a reserved sign to the neighbouring table so we could create space to fit our pram. I had to get my own highchair for my little one. The owner decided to hide away in the back and give her answer to the staff and say no reserved tables are going to be moved, then with the staff coming out to tell me no.... They then said, "You will just have to make room in the corner for yourselves." We then moved a couple of tables for us to fit in.... with no help! There were no menus, the menus were on the walls with handwriting, you could not read... We then ordered our food, my partner enjoyed her roast beef. I ordered a pizza, which looked like an asda price pizza with extra cheese. My experience: Staff 1 star - not helpful at all. Food 1 star - pizza's. Interior 2 star - cramped. Exterior 4 star - lovely place. Location 4 star - lovely area, can get congested outside with cars.

So this pub could be great. The setting is lovely, the building could be cosy but somehow it’s lacking. There is no parking so it can’t pick up much passing trade and it was pretty much empty at Sunday lunchtime so no real atmosphere. We had booked a table but wasn’t necessary given most tables were free. The barman was lacklustre so we didn’t even get a warm smile and welcome when we appeared. We ordered a ‘home-made’ pizza and chips to share as out of ciabatta so no garlic bread. The pizza was on the small side and came out looking pale. It was however a lot tastier than it looked. The fries were really good. So food wasn’t bad but nothing special. How this place is still open without having food that draws in the punters is a mystery. Shame it could be a great foody venue with a bit of extra love and hospitality.

Lovely little pub in Rickford. A lovely open fire to keep you nice and warm. Atmosphere was nice, it’s like your typical village pub. Televisions in all the rooms (handy for sports). All the food we had was homemade including the chips. The ham was local and tasted delicious. The burger was a proper one and a very tasty one. Brie and ham ciabatta was superb also and definitely not a miss. It goes without saying their food is tip top. Lots of pizzas, ciabattas on the menu, however not so much of your typical pub grub. Plenty of drinks to choose from, good varying selection. Worth a visit and a bite to eat.

I have been here numerous times as a daughter lives near by. It is everything a pub in a local community should be. Relaxed but attentive staff. Human beings that take part in a little banter or a serious conversation, Food is SUPERB QUALITY. Ingredients all locally sourced from ethical sources, so pretentious dishes do not get offered. An attitude to be proud of!!!!! The quirky setting is to die for.... Driving up the duck race river is for experts...... The bad reviews I have seen begger belief. They must be from unscrupulous buisness compeditors or people best left in the Hilton. No car park????? It is limited but if you really like ashfelt stay on the M1 or 4 or whatever bit of modern soul less country you prefer. Beautiful location but a bit disappointed with our dining experience. Headed there for Sunday lunch on Bank Holiday weekend with a table booked for 1pm. Website advised to book so we did and we specifically asked if they did roasts. When we tried to order the roast there were none left - “first come first served” was the response although we thought going at 1pm would mean there would be plenty available as it had opened at 12. Had the ploughman’s instead which was good but they had run out of Stilton. The artisan pizzas were enjoyed by the kids but they were also soon to run out. The cheese & onion tart which was lovely, was a bit small compared to the mountain of chips which came alongside it.Young staff - the guys serving our table were great, the bar staff not that friendly. So lovely setting which was let down by the lack of availability on the menu.

I am or maybe biased because I do consider The Plume a local , I can walk there , After the recent lockdown and the new social distancing measures getting back to the joys of life has been difficult for many , The Plume is No different, There are measures in place but the welcome, Great Ales and Quality Fayre is back in play and Kate and Dan haven’t been sat idle during the closed months ! The Bars have been refitted and Doors have been opened along with fresh paint and Some new Beers ! The Cheddar Ales Potholer being served crisp and bright and the cider range is impressive, Dinner consisted of a shared pate with local chutney and our main courses were Chicken and bacon Caesar salad and a Homemade Tomato and Basil tartlet , served with the obligatory and famous homemade chips ( they are rather special ) , All in all a very successful evening out for the first time since March , The Plume is up and running and very open for business, That makes my world a little more normal ,

Situated just off the main road to Blagdon this pub nestles by a small stream. On street parking is tight, but there is a field opposite which can be used. Not sure that this would be a practical option if there was a lot of wet weather around.Flagstone floors, low beams and large stone fireplaces, everything you would expect from an establishment of this age. Warm greeting from the landlady who was most friendly and helpful during our overnight stay. Lovely atmosphere and popular with the locals which added to the ambience. The bedrooms were clean, but our bathroom was compact and bijou rendering it a tight fit to move around in. In a building of this age it is very difficult to project higher standards, but there was clear evidence of 'work in progress'.I have to say the food was very good indeed. A great range of pizzas and at very competitive prices. If we had stayed there for longer, I think I would have worked my way through that menu and got fatter to boot. We will almost certainly return when next in the area on our way to the airport (roughly 15 mins drive)

Visited this pub whilst staying in Burrington as it was in walking distance of our accommodation. Young miserable Bar Staff almost managed to acknowledge that we wanted to be served on arrival. I asked if it would be possible to taste a very small sample of one of the local ciders before purchasing as i was undecided on which to sort was best but this was refused stating "We have a no tasting policy here." A female staff member who was sitting at the bar drinking then said "I've got a pint of that one here. If he gives you a glass, you can pour a little bit from my glass if you need to try it." I politely declined but really couldn't believe what had just happened.. When being served the staff didn't smile and everything looked as though it was too much effort. We ordered food. The Pizza selection was huge, pizzas were small and the chicken and bacon was so bland and below average that I left most of it. Chips on the other hand were pretty epic.

Lovely location, in a small hamlet very close to Cheddar, beside a small steam. Rooms were comfortable and good size in a lovely 300 year old inn. Food was good quality home cooked pub food. Speaking to the owner (who is very engaging and friendly) she made the point that the aim of the menu wasn't to be gastro pub but rather good simple food that people will enjoy. Homemade pizzas are a speciality. The other 2 families had dogs and it is certainly dog friendly. For what you get considered prices for food, drink and accommodation all good.Would definitely stay again if in area.

The Plume of Feathers is situated on a narrow lane a stone's throw from the A368. As such, this pub, restaurant, and B&B; is ideally placed to explore nearby towns, cities, and surrounding countryside. My wife and I (and dog) stayed here for two nights in March, during an overcast weekend, with the threat of rain an ever likely prospect. It didn't matter. There was plenty to see and do. We took our dog to Wells Cathedral (dog friendly), Cheddar Gorge and Caves (also dog friendly), climbed up Glastonbury Tor, and walked a short section of the Mendip Hills overlooking Blagdon Lake. We also visited the stone circles at Stanton Drew (separately, as dogs are not allowed into the area).

Dan and Kate (the landlord and lady) were friendly and polite and gave us loads of advice about the local area and where to visit. The food is home cooked by Kate and there is a great selection to choose from aswell as the several different ales and ciders on the drinks list. The locals were really friendly and we spent the majority of the evening playing pool and darts. Two ploughman’s, a pint of cider and a half of bitter for £27. Too expensive by far! The landlord would make Basil Faulty seem welcoming. Pub has attractive location, although there is no car park. Go somewhere else, save money and get a better experience.

Beautiful country pub in a peaceful stunning location. Tasty home cooked food, which is a rare find these days. Good selection of local beers. You can sit and drink by the stream and kids are safe playing in the garden or by the stream. We shall be back for more.

A gorgeous building in a great location with excellent home cooked food and friendly staff. Everyone is made to feel welcome by the locals and overall it's a great place to come and eat, or just to drink.

I arrived quite late nearby and was hoping for some supper. From the road this looked a cheery pub and when I parked up in the lane it looked enchanting.

Thanks to the landlady, staff and chef for a wonderful night's stay. The food was excellent especially the chilli pizza and caesar salad, a nice array of ales and a lively breakfast too, all fresh and hot. The room was small and basis but because of the pubs location we had a great night's sleep. All in all a really enjoyable and relaxing stopover I will definitely be returning here. One slight negative and this is being picky is the lack of parking space we stayed on a Thursday so it was no problem. 10/10 for me

Stayed here a couple of times now and thoroughly recommend this traditional, rural inn/pub to anyone. We travel with our dog, so finding a place like this where our four legged family member is as welcome as us means a lot. In fact, the lady owner even recognised our dog from our previous visit.

Really recommend this pub. We booked bed and breakfast in one of their rooms as we were flying early next morning. The pub is in a lovely little village. Staff and owners really friendly. Had a lovely evening meal. Would definitely return.

The Plume of Feathers is picturesquely situated in the rural village of Rickford. Looking out over fields and just by a running stream. We stayed one night on the way to Devon. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, spacious with an ensuite bathroom, with shower. We had twin beds, but perhaps some people will find the mattresses rather soft.

Frazzled after a stressful trip from Ireland into relaxed historic English pub. Food was top class. Good selection of beer and cider. Lovely location. Parking a slight problem but no bid deal. Less than 15 mins from airport and just off main road going south. Recommended!

We have just had a 3 night stay at The Plume of Feathers. Two couples with their dogs. Very friendly landlady and very knowledgeable of the area. Very cosy pub with good basic, Clean, warm accomodation. The only thing that we were a little dissapointed with was the menu. Limited in the evening, great if you like pizza. They were lovely. Breakfast was ok.

Great pub, with great beer and highly recommend the homemade pizzas, they were delicious. Our rooms were very clean and nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. Nice fry up in the morning for breakfast, which went down a treat. They really looked after one of our group who was a celiac. The landlady made a delicious dish for him and were really mindful of his condition. Would definitely stay again.

Had a brunch this morning. Fantastic service and maybe the best americano I’ve ever had? Have found the beans on-line (arriving tomorrow - super exciting!).

I visited during the day and was shocked how many dogs of all sizes were allowed in (under tables/screeching/barking/fighting), which is so unhygienic in an establishment where food is being served. What was particularly worrying was the drinking water dispenser, which is free but also doubles as a dog water dispenser where dog bowls used are right next to the human glasses. I emailed and complained to the Manager about their general dog policy and how it affects hygiene standards and possibly people, who are allergic to dogs but after weeks of waiting, still had no reply.

We used to visit quite often, but on our last visit 9-10-2024, we decided to have a chicken flatbread. It arrived and looked reasonable, but was still frozen at the center. I took it back and 20 minutes later another flatbread arrived. Tasted bland. No apology, just disinterest. Will not go again.
