Nine members of a Walking Group had a lunch at this lovely Pub, a warm welcome directed us to a large table where we relaxed after a walk in this lovely locality. It wasn’t quite warm enough to sit outside in the garden which has a breathtaking view over the Lake and hills. ( A summer visit will be organised.) The food was from a wide ranging menu but I was determined to try the Cow pie. Really tasty and served with lovely Mash and roasted vegetables, excellent meal and excellent value. Several other members had fish pie which I will sample on my next visit. All the Group agreed that the food and Service was exceptional.

This pub has the advantage of spectacular views from the garden. The pies which we had were delicious and the beer good. I certainly recommend The New Inn and will certainly be back.

This pub does a range of dishes but their pies are a specialty. He had a Cow Pie, mine was Lamb and Mint. Both were excellent, but if we go back I will choose the Cow again (He wants to ry their Chicken and Leek) Service was good. We sat inside but on a good day their garden area has a great view of Lake Blagdon - beautiful area of Somerset. Next trip to the area we are keen to take the family there for a meal.

We came here for dinner on a cold, wet August Monday night. The “New” Inn is a proper old pub with low ceilings and a walk-in fireplace. It was fairly busy and full of lively chatter. We both chose the house specialties: Rustic pies. We had a “Cow pie (steak) and the lamb & mint pie. Both came with vegetables, mashed potato and gravy in a wee gravy boat. I’m a big fan of pies and these did not disappoint. Both were tasty & full of flavour. Vegetables still crunchy and good savoury gravy. If you’re ever in the Yeo Valley, come to the New Inn for dinner - you won’t be disappointed!

I'd previously left a 5 star review for the New Inn when it was run by different management. At that time the landlords were very hospitable & welcoming and the home-cooked food was great. However, visiting yesterday evening was a disappointment. We'd been recommended to eat there by a local business where we were staying but the fish pie I had was more like a leek pie ( I did fine one prawn!) and the carrots and broccoli were hard. Unfortunately I left my meal but no-one asked how the food was. My friend had the macaroni cheese and while that was alright, he was unwell afterwards! Such a shame :-(

Just what a pub should be: classic beer-garden, sumptuous views across rolling countryside & a large lake, decent ale, & traditional menu . We all had cow pie which was everything that a pub should serve. A proper well-filled pie, perfectly cooked veg, & a proper creamy mash... outstanding!!

Stopped off to have a quiet pint while admiring the well renowned view from the beer garden .. started off well , nice friendly bar man and two good pints poured .. then we’d only took two sips sat in the garden , when a group of people arrived in the car park with a drone , and proceeded to fly it out and back to the lake and overhead .. now I’m not sure if this is a pub issue .. but it was a very very annoying !! I don’t like the fact that as it flew overhead they were discussing what they /who they could see. We drank up and left as soon as possible .. shame as we’d planned to stay awhile and eat too .

Great dining experience for party of five old (school) friends. Staff very welcoming and glad we had booked as was busy early evening. Really appreciated the honesty when told that the chilli wasn’t up to its normal high standard and one of our party might prefer something else. Thank you. Yeo Valley cow pies were great, fish pie looked good too. Gravy was good (can’t abide weak, watery gravy), veg plentiful and cauliflower cheese with crispy cheese topping very good. All dishes arrived from the kitchen quickly and served piping hot and staff couldn’t have been more attentive. Beautiful views of the lake from the beer garden. Hope to return in the summer when in the area.

Ate here tonight, Awful food, won’t go back which is a shame as one other pub in village is close and second is only serving burgers till September. Two of us shared a platter but chicken, onion rings and chips were over cooked and so full of oil we could barely eat them. Other meals were gammon and chips with pineapple, again chips and pineapple were over cooked, pasta with prawns and chorizo, it was hunt the prawns and lastly sweet and sour chicken with rice, again the chicken was overcooked. Such a shame as pub has fantastic gardens with spectacular views across the reservoir. Also when we walked out you could smell the oil 🤢

A quick walk from where we were staying and this quaint village pub with great views of Blagdon lake was a nice surprise. They aren’t open on Tuesday but as it was Monday we were good to go. Ordered food at the bar and took a seat outside with fantastic views. Food was quick and plentiful and for a lunchtime the jacket potato with Tuna Mayo was perfect. Had a half of local cider which was a great choice. If you get the chance come sample the great food and even more spectacular view. Plenty of parking too.

Not a great experience food wise here. Visited on a Friday early evening. Ran out of garlic mushroom starter…Camembert bites starter was cold in the middle so sent back, then to be told no more of them either. Mac n cheese main-bland as you like and scampi and chips average at best. We knew it was a basic menu but it was not good. They did refund us for the Camembert and offered to give us an upgrade our mains to the full portions, instead of the half we ordered. Staff friendly and apologetic. Beautiful views and nice for a drink, hubby enjoyed his beer and wine was pleasant enough and cold, just wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Very typical village pub. Very small and cosy. A nice traditional bar with big open fire. Not overcrowded and furnished homely inside. Good mix of songs from different eras playing in the background. Sunday dinner was spot on. You can choose different sized portions (kids, medium and standard portion). We all opted for beef and had a fantastic meal. Roast potatoes were cooked in the meat fat and gravy was homemade. Meat was well done and tender. Yorkshire puddings were perfectly doughy and plenty of veg to accompany the meal with. Didn’t have to wait too long, plates were piping hot, so the dinner stayed warm for longer. There were other options instead of Sunday Lunch on the board, from what I could see, all homemade. This pleasantly took me by surprise and I would not hesitate to visit again.

We have been visiting the New Inn almost every week, as a couple and sometimes with family and friends, since it reopened following Covid. We are always met with a friendly greeting and nothing is ever too much trouble. Lizzie, Mike and team of staff are very efficient, friendly and polite and the delicious, home cooked food is well prepared and presented. We always get a visit from Tony, the chef, who checks that my husband, who has a poor appetite, is catered for. To quote a sign in another pub we visit, you arrive as strangers and leave as friends.

We visited the New Inn as we were keen to see the amazing views from the beer garden - we weren’t disappointed! Unfortunately the food was a different matter. I ordered cod and chips, being a pub food favourite. What came out was clearly a piece of frozen, cheap supermarket battered fish. I cook way better fish and chips than this at home, even with supermarket ingredients, Chewy and completely overcooked- I didn’t bother to finish it despite being so hungry, the peas were worse; tinned, not the frozen type, and barely warmed up. the chips were ok, but few in number. My wife’s scampi and chips were better, but nothing to write home about. Well we’ve ticked this pub off our list but won’t be back!

The biggest problem was that they had run out of several items on the roast menu (including the pork and vegetarian!) and two of the desserts. Loud music came out of the kitchen area across the garden and when I asked them to turn it down they ran away from me !!! Apparently there was no manager that day just a group of 16 year olds trying to do their best . There were no parasols in the garden and the food took a long time ...the view is amazing though so if you want a glass of flat water or warm lager and look out across the water this place is for you .

Not entirely sure it’s worth spending the time writing our comments, as so many other reviews say almost exactly the same thing, and clearly nothing has been done about it! The main part of the pub was almost empty and didn’t get much busier during the ALMOST 2 HOURS that it took for the two of us to be served with a Sunday Roast and a dessert! My partner’s beef was tough and a large part of one of the two slices was gristle, which we found disgraceful at £17.95! My lamb was tough too, and frankly the only positive comment we can make is about the good selection of vegetables. We couldn’t cut the kale though, let alone the meat, as the knives are blunt; we had to do a lot of tearing! The plum ‘crumble’ was simply hard work; a very unenjoyable experience. I can only describe it as warmed-up, hard plum halves with chunks of shortcake biscuit thrown on the top served in a small ramekin dish with a teaspoon to try to get it out with - quite a challenge! When asked if it was to our satisfaction, we explained why it wasn’t, and how it did not resemble crumble in any way; we were told our comments would be passed to the chef....we heard nothing more, and were greeted by the same chap when we asked to pay, who gave us no feedback, let alone an apology, and we paid our bill in full. We then left, never to return. So in summary, slow service, poor value for money, poor quality food and oh, did I mention the toilet facilities?!! Dreadful! The whole place needs some serious TLC and by the sounds of many of the other reviews, if they don’t do it soon, they will run out of customers!

I went to The New Inn today with my son and his girlfriend as I told them what a lovely pub it was, although I haven’t been there for a couple of years. Well I won’t be returning again as the food wasn’t good at all and overpriced! £17.50 for roast beef! It was fatty but not so much as the pork loin, there were barely a few slivers of pork in between the fat. The dessert was no better, the plum crumble.. it came in a small ramakin size dish and the plums were so hard you couldn’t cut through them with your teaspoon, yes a teaspoon as a dessert spoon wouldn’t have fit in the small dish! That delight was £6.50! It was as sent back as there’s only so much wrestling that you can do to attempt a decent spoonful, they brought another out which was exactly the same! We refused this and asked for it to be taken off the bill which they did. I discovered that they’ve only been there just under a year but still, time enough surely to realise they’re not serving good food! It’s such a shame as it was always very good on previous times and a lovely place to go in the summer with the fantastic views of the lake. Such a disappointing visit today.

Four friends went for lunch after a dog walk by the lake. Chose this pub as it is dog friendly.

On probably the last hot/sunny day in October we stopped at this wonderful spot to look at the view and enjoy lunch in the garden. Food was good, beer well kept, great lunch.

This used to be an excellent place to eat but not any more. Poorly presented disorganised menu on cheap copy paper. My friend had her starter and main course brought to the table at the same time and the main returned to the kitchen to be kept warm. Two of us had haddock, peas and chips. There were enough peas for four servings each and the chips were yet again so hard it was hard to put the fork in. The crumble was Ok as was the ice-cream! For what was a very popular pub it has gone down hill with only nine customers in total. The sole barman was also the waiter but did not have much to do with little customers. He was a polite young man. We will not return!

Would not eat here again. How, for instance, can you serve up puddings where the fruit is not even cooked through? This was true of a plum crumble (one of the easiest puddings to make) and of a rhubarb creme brûlée. This latter was the worst because the rhubarb would have been cooked separately first. Still half raw and sugar free.

Really nice friendly country pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic food and welcoming staff. Would really recommend a visit to The new inn to taste the food and also to drink in the fantastic view from the beer garden. Will Deffo be revisiting.

We had a light lunch consisting of sandwiches and pimms and enjoyed sitting in the garden. Beautiful views on Blagdon Lake. Kind and helpful staff.

Went here for lunch with my husband. The views across Blagdon lake are lovely. The lunch menu was a bit limited. We ordered the fish and chips which was very nice. The staff were very polite and the place looked clean and tidy. Would definitely give it another try

Had a meal here after a days fly fishing on Blagdon lake. The food was nothing fancy, just good honest pub fare. I had the rib eye steak and my fishing partner the chicken and mango curry. Both were delicious, the steak was tender and the portions were reasonable. The staff were friendly and the Wadworth 6x beer was excellent. Amazing view over Blagdon lake from the beer garden, which would be a fantastic spot to spend a summer evening.

We are a party of ten who go out monthly for a meal, we have a good time with no problems until we visited the New Inn at Blagdon. I didn’t like anything on the menu, so I went to the bar and asked if they had a specials board, the woman behind the bar ( a thin woman with dark hair and glasses) told me the specials were on the menu! I had another look and said I couldn’t see any, she replied they were all specials. I said I didn’t like anything on the menu, and she very rudely replied that wasn’t her problem!!! ( I have never been spoken to like that in a pub or restaurant before, I was shocked). Not giving up I politely asked her if they had any chicken? No she said, everything is on the menu I can’t magic anything else up!! This woman is in the wrong occupation, I have never been spoken to like that before in any pub or restaurant, she was so rude. I ended up with the cheese board selection for my main meal.

Lovely pub, have been using it for 40 years and seen a few come and go. The latest landlords have changed from the former fare to something more sophisticated and we have enjoyed several excellent and classy meals there, cooked to a very high quality. If you want pie and chips go to a local boozer, if you want a treat, try the New Inn.

We went there for drinks ( and planned lunch/dinner today) as it is a lovely spot overlooking the lake... until we got charged £5.20 per pint of Moretti!! Absolutely ridiculous! Charging CITY prices in the country is probably why the pub was all but empty... when my husband mentioned the cost of the Lager we were informed it was the brewery that makes them charge this much... yeah right. We visit many other pubs from the same brewery and certainty dont pay these prices. This is where the term just being plainly 'ripped off' comes to mind. Saying that I could ALMOST forgive the prices of the Lager if the rest of the pub was up to scratch, but they didn't have any cordial or fruit shoots for my little girl. The left over plates of food outside were attracting many flies and bugs , the tables all tried to be more wobbly and unstable than the next and the ladies toilets... dirty floors, sanitary product tissues and wrappers on the floor and 'splashes' of excrement in the toilet bowl and hardly any hand soap to wash away the dirt from that unpleasant experience. Disgusting to say the least. Glad we didnt order any food after seeing that as cleanliness is clearly not a priority, and we certainly never ever will come back. The pub is dirty, shabby and completely overpriced, so I would avoid!

After spending a fab weekend in the area, our group of 10 ladies wanted to have a meal together before going our separate ways. We phoned to book a table and was told that the only available table would be in the beer garden , which was fine as it was a beautiful day. We arrived in a convoy of 4 cars at 11:40 but as there were only 2 carpark spaces available at the entrance to the main carpark, our other 2 cars were blocking the road. As this was dangerous, we opened the carpark gate and safely parked in the main carpark. We sat quietly in the garden, waiting for the pub to open. About 15 mins later, a female member of staff approached us and reprimanded us (at length) because we had entered the carpark. We apologized and tried to explain our reason, but she didn't listen and continued to lecture us in a patronizing fashion. We were shocked at her unreasonable reaction and decided to go our separate ways and take our custom elsewhere. A serious lack of hospitality which spoiled the finale of our weekend!

Had visited this inn years ago with my parents & have fond memories. On a quiet Monday thought I would take my partner and see the place again , what a mistake! The food was expensive for something so ordinary and we had to wait nearly an hour for a wrap with salad and a pie & chips meal ! Hardly difficult ! The benches in the garden area are rotting with nails poking though and the toilet date back to the 1980’s probably the last time they had a cleaned ! Vile . This place must be surviving on its magnificent views because that was the only plus point of our visit.

Visited on a beautiful Friday lunchtime and ordered the vintage cheddar, thyme and onion tart. Served by an extremely friendly and helpful barman and the food came within 15 minutes. I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve had out - a really generous portion with new potatoes and salad - all of it delicious. And the view of the lake is of course, stunning. I wasn’t massively impressed on a previous occasion but this time it gets 5 stars from me!!

I took my whole family to the New Inn Yesterday for lunch. We got a menu sat down over looking a beautiful view and chose from the food and wine menu. I ordered the food and drinks at the bar and spent just under £114. The ladies who served me was lovely. There was no childrens menu but a note on the bottom of the main menu stating smaller portions available. I ordered the vintage cheddar cheese sandwich with coleslaw and asked for the coleslaw to be on the side. After waiting just under an hour the food arrived. The cheese sandwiches which were tosated contained thick sliced tomatoes with melted cheese. My sister in law took this back handed it in to the kitchen direct and advised it had tomatoes in it. Promptly a new dish came out with no issues at all. When I took my sons cheese sandwich back a's his also contained melted cheese and tomato I spoke to a different lady at the bar. Well what a shock I had. I poiletly said the the sandwich contains tomato. Her reply was shocking. It comes with tomatoes she said. I replied in a poilet manner advising that it does not state this on the menu. She replied with a further rude reply inferring it was.my fault I should have stated I didn't want tomatoes and it doesn't state this on the menu. She then referred to me ad though I was be impolite. I was just pointing out that the menu didn't state tomatoes, if it did I would have asked them not to put these in. This lady continued to be rude to me so I stated to her please can you just bring out a plain cheese sandwich thank you, I turned and walked back to my table outside. A few minutes later the food arrived all perfect. This was a lovely day which was ruined by this lady. I will not be going back there again. Over priced food, one member of staff with an attitude, no childrens menu and no childrens facilities.

Some friends suggested eating here as they had enjoyed a previous visit. I was dubious after reading reviews of this he place going downhill after a change of management, but we decided to try it anyway.

I went to this delightful pub/restaurant in Portbury, Bristol, with a friend. Our lunch was delicious, freshly cooked, and very filling. It was quite quiet, we went on a Monday afternoon. The staff, in particular Andrea, were friendly, attentive and helpful. I would happily recommend it for a quiet, weekday lunch.

Late before going back to our collection point we decided to return. we done this same thing but this time a man answered . Asked we were members explained on a visit and where from and we did not have docs on us but before we could say could we sign as visitors the conversation went not member's cannot be allowed in and put the intercom down. HOW RUDE. Would I return no and would I recommend no not if that person can not use some manners .
