Ebdon Arms in North Somerset

Wouldn't recommend this place. Very sloppy service. Food wasn't cooked very well..we left a lot of it . Nobody around to complain to. Staff that we did see were very scruffy and looked like needed a good wash

Was here for a AGM,good staff, great atmosphere, will go back again.

This was the first time my Husband and I visited The Ebdon at Wick-St-Lawrence and we will definitely return. The food was lovely and we had good waiter service. Thank you.

We arrived and it was busy, but there was a free table and we sat down and looked at the menu. There is a lot of choice and it looked like good value for money. When a place is busy, you expect to queue at the bar and wait to be served. However the service was slow and chaotic. Staff were leaving the bar area for long amounts of time (three people to change a single barrel for example), the cooking staff came to the bar to serve. There appeared to be no system or process in place for taking orders. It was essentially a free for all. When I came to order I was told that they were only taking drinks orders, so had to wait some more. As I waited, every time someone wanted to order something, they had to go and check if it was on.. When the person in front of me was placing their order and was told that they had no fries, I knew that I has already been waiting 20 minutes to place an order, didn't want to leave the queue to see what people, we made the decision to leave. Considering there were nearly as many people behind the bar taking orders as there was waiting to place an order, I can't quite understand why it was so disorganised and chaotic. If I was the manager there I would be seriously looking at the ordering system and processes. They are losing customers and repeat business. I was also concerned about cleanliness and hygiene. The table we had needed cleaning, and there were plates of half-eaten food on the bar. Overall I was very disappointed.

The pub is located in a lovely quite place. There's plenty of tables and seats, the whole place was spotless. The bar has a great selection of drinks and the staff were friendly and relaxed. The food was great and came out in a decent amount of time. Overall a great pub to go to for either food or drink

We come here weekly throughout the week. Always a great atmosphere, great service and the food is always of a very high standard. The landlords and staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic atmosphere, lovely service even though they were really busy they still made time to chat at the bar and while seeing our food. Highly recommend.

We had been here for fish and chips the night before and found it to be very tasty with portions enough to satisfy .The batter on the fish was very nice and crispy and the fish was nicely cooked. So, we tried the the Sunday lunch the next day. Pleasantly surprised.It was very nice.The best dish though was the bread and butter pudding with custard.This dish deserved 5 stars.Well done chef. We will be back 👍🏻

Recently hired out the function room for a birthday party. Fantastic venue with speakers and skittle alley, food was brilliant and Cheese & the team went above and beyond for us. Would highly recommend!

Lack of meat Looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch, the absent of pork on our plates we truly could not believe, 2 wafer thin slices of pork loin, if you folded them both over you could fit them in a match box. The barmaid came over and asked if everything was OK, no it wasn't I replied pointing to the 2 slithers of pork, oh that is the standed amount, she offered to get some more pork, but that is not the point, it should have been on the plate to start with. Never again.

Beautiful sunny evening, outside was packed. Only one barman taking orders, queue was out of the door. Once ordered, the service was quick, the food was lovely as usual.

Went to Ebdon for mid week lunch for a treat. Pub was not as busy as expected, then remembered it was mid week. Food was served hot and fresh, venue was clean and tidy, staff were really friendly (chef came out for a chat). Ample car park spaces with only a very short walk through the arch to get to the entrance. First time lunch visit. I would definitely go again when I have some more time off work. Had only previously once for a funeral wake over two years ago (which was also a good experience).

HAD A REALLY NICE 18th birthday meal the food was great the pub was very busy the prices are good the staff were very attentive asking us about our meal cleared the table very quickly after we had all finished

We arranged a get together for an under 12s football team and the managers of the Ebdon arms were very helpful whilst we were organising this and showed great support for the kids. The function room has been newly painted and has fresh carpet, it looks a lot brighter and more inviting. When we ordered food, this was also a vast improvement than in years gone by. Thank you for your support ⭐️

We had the pleasure of being able to have the function room for our young football team to watch the England match. I must say i was very pleased with the service we got lovely bar staff very friendly and quick service. They had food during half time which was lovely and went down well with kuds and adults. The function room was very bright and airy with plenty of room. Definitely go back.

After living around the corner to the Ebdon arms for over 20 years and the pub has had many people running it over the years we always hear that new people have taken over and the food is better ,well Every time we go we are disappointed. I went with my young daughter for some food and I had the mix grill and my daughter had burger and chips , I got to say it was the best meal I have had there it was lovely , the staff are friendly and very welcoming. We will come more often.

Great service from young waitstaff on my most recent visit. Steak was nice too. Could do with more bar staff on busy nights, just 1 means a long wait to get served.

I stumbled in after a long rainy and treacherous walk from my home and welcomed by Mr. Cheese man the greatest pub landlord in Weston. His artisan naan bread with the mixed grill is beyond exceptional and hand made in his state of the art kitchen with a bread kiln and his experienced chefs who have cooked across the globe. He regularly comes out and treats all customers with number one quality care. This pub has the best atmosphere in North Somerset but folks watch out for a chap who I believe is called Benjamin Ian Morgan ? Always inappropriately drinking random IPAs and drinking Guinness with English creamy mustard in it an unnecessary mix that I may be added to the menu albeit that chap Benjamin Ian Morgan begins step foot in this awe wondering and inspirational pub. I can’t recommend it enough ! I also have to strongly recommend the Sunday lunch popped in and chief cheese man poured my pint of choice without even asking, my presence was enough !! Where do you get this sort of service nowadays ?? Have to say as well young lad Liam working in there is an excellent young chap with a great work ethic and clearly loves his job. Had the option between lamb and pork absolutely thriving grass fed meats sourced locally and taste fantastic !

After tucking into a mixed grill I met chef Cheese as he strolled over to greet me, I was stunned, "wheyy" I exclaimed "this naan is scrumptious chesney" I said. Beautiful public house with sound Tory folk, BOSH!

Great pub, fabulous local atmosphere, some real gents and scrumptious grub! Whahey! Cooked a delicious carnivore diet which coach approved of! Thriving! After a further 13 pints of cruzcampo I engaged in some sound conversation on the Tory agenda! 3er for a 1er??

Bland disappointing pub for such a lovely area. Staff unfriendly and service is very slow. Staff seem uninterested in doing anything. Decor is very tired. Menu is limited with very basic food. This could be such a beautiful local pub if the owners spent time on the menu and staff were trained to welcome customers.

The positives first: the steak was great! Really well cooked. The service was quick. We had a handy 30% off coupon which had come through the post and which actually made us decide to come to the pub. The premises were clean and nice. The negatives: the chips were French fries rather than normal chips. I had a dessert disaster, in that I only wanted ice cream which was only on the children’s menu, so asked at the bar if it was possible for me to get that. I was told yes, I could have 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream with sauce, no problem. I paid but noticed when I got back to the table I’d been charged £5.28, which was really steep, considering a full adult sundae cost £4.95. I spoke to the staff again and I’m afraid the young barman (a new employee) made it really difficult and refused to ask a more senior staff member for help, so I had to catch that person’s attention and finally got a refund of £1.29. And to top it all the ice cream came without the sauce… I don’t think I’ll be back soon unfortunately, I did not feel particularly valued as a customer.

Love my local. Food is highly recommended. The chef / landlord Andy and husband wife have turned the pub around from on the verge of closing to a busy very popular pub. Hats of to them both.

Our local!! But tried to ring all day to book a table, No Reply…. So decided to walk over in the evening to be told can’t have a table without a reservation……how can you book a table if no one answers the phone, no online booking system!! Girl behind the bar says I’ve been on my own all day, surely if you have a promotional offer on you’d staff accordingly, great way to lose a regular customer!!

We've visited the Ebdon Arms a few times in recent weeks. Excellent food, very good value. A super Roast lunch today and we've had evening meals as well which have been just as good. Very friendly staff each time we've been. The pub has a really good atmosphere. A couple of points, they don't serve food on Mondays (but can't see where it says that on their website). It seems quite busy and booking is advisable but the 'Book now' doesn't work on the website so you have to phone to book which can be a challenge. Would definitely recommend

Having had a promotional leaflet delivered, indicating it's valid Monday through to Sunday, we went on a Monday evening only to be told they don't serve food on a Monday!! Apparently the kitchen is closed on Mondays! 😕 So glad they advised that in the leaflet, it would have saved me a wasted journey!!

Had a promotional voucher through letter box and decided to try the new menu. I had surf & turf and partner had 8oz rump. Both were cooked perfectly and all of the trimmings were hot and fresh. Will definitely go again, new land lords have turned this pub/restaurant into a real gem.

Yet again we visited this pub and yet again we could not get food, the first time we were told the kitchen was closed, this time we were told it was an hour wait, which we said was fine as we could have a drink and wait, we got drinks, looked at menu, went to bar to preorder only to be told they would not allow us to order for at least an hour. Are you really trying to drive custom away, when the pub trade is already suffering due to rising costs. Not impressed at all

Lovely place for a meal and drink.

The pub was busy, and it was apparent that they were understaffed. The young lad on the bar was new and being trained (the other bar maid told us). It took a long time to order food and drinks, and there were issues with both orders (paid for a large wine but got poured a small; ordered frobishers apple but received britvic 55; one of the kids meals was missed off the order), but all were very pleasant. When it became apparent that the second kids meal had been missed, they got another out as soon as possible and free of charge. The atmosphere was good, the staff were good and the food was lovely (once we got it). The problem at this pub is that they are clearly understaffed. As an aside, we witnessed a customer being incredibly rude to the chap who was running food. He dealt with the situation very well, held his ground but also diffused the situation.

Saw that it was a new menu so thought we’d try out the ebdon. Wish we hadn’t. Found a table with no reserved sign, my partner orders food and there was a list of menu items unavailable and there was a 45 minute wait for food. Then had a manager let us know that the table we were sat at was meant to be reserved so we’d need to move by 7:30 but they understood we’d ordered food so hopefully it would be out in time. Chicken wings sharing starter was pitiful, one small dish with a small bbq dip not worth £7.99. Burgers came out, they were bland. I ordered the cheeseburger and barely saw any cheese on it. They’d ran out of sauces and they forgot our side of onion rings. Overall a really disorganised and subpar meal.

Great food and atmosphere. Short staffed so food took a while to come out, but not a problem. Son in law said it was the tastiest chicken he’d had!

Attended a funeral wake there recently. One member of bar staff for at least 50 guests. This happened also when I.held my mother's wake there, 7 years ago. Definately will not be rushing back. Really appalling management!

The Ebdon arms is a fantastic and friendly place, the food is incredible and the staff are amazing, the bar staff always make you feel welcome and well looked after when arriving, very chatty and happy to help with anything!

The bar person was scary, very abrupt to rudeness.

Today I had the most delicious Sunday roast I’ve had in a while. We had a family gathering of 9 and all the food came out together. Everyone ate their meal and we all sent compliments to the chef 🧑‍🍳 we will definitely be returning 🥂

The Ebdon Arms is my local and I have recently enjoyed lunches here during January. The food is excellent and very well priced along with cheerful staff behind the bar. The dining areas are light and tables very well spread out with feature fireplace in centre. Spotlessly clean too. Can highly recommend!

Today 24th January we attended a wake at the Ebdon arms , they also provided the food, it was very good, polite staff, clean, very warm, food came straight from the kitchen , still warm, food was good, nice variety , tea and coffee available to serve ourselves . Well done Ebdon arms.

Always a warm welcome, food is always decent standard, but clearly of a particular pub restaurant quality/range.

We came here for a Christmas meal, we pre booked for 19 people. The food was delicious no complaints from anyone. You could not get a better meal for the price nothing was too much trouble for the staff and landlords will certainly be coming back 👍

Pub was lovely and so was the food. The staff could have been a bit more friendly when serving our food. We felt a bit rushed even tho it was 7:30 in the evening. We still think the pub deserved a 4 star because everything else was perfect and I don’t feel they should be marked down because of one person. We will try again but maybe in the daytime instead

Just nipped in as walking by with my dog and she just had to go in, probably from the lovely friendly staff she experienced last time which was repeated on this visit.

We were the first Christmas party for the Ebdon on Saturday 25th Nov. The staff were great, very friendly Leyla & colleagues looked after our table very well. I had the fish & it was great, loved the sauce. Would recommend for parties, great night.

The bar was unattended at lot. Quite a wait to be served,there were 32 of us.

We just had a wake in the function room of The Ebdon Arms and right from when we enquired about holding it there, not even knowing when the funeral would be, Leila was very patient with us in giving us their availability and explaining the options. We then popped in a couple more times and spoke to Rhi about numbers, timings and to check everything was in place, and we were never made to feel rushed or like we had bothered them. On the day the staff were brilliant getting extra tables and chairs for us as more people had turned up than we had expected. The chef was even serving behind the bar at one point. Thank you so much for making this such a positive experience for us.

We attended a wake here on s thursday afternoon. The serving team appeared to struggle and could have done with more staff. However, they did a good job under the circumstances. The room we were in was private, which was nice. However, it has seen better days and could do with a refurbishment. Haven't been here for years, and I probably won't rush to come back.

We haven't been here for several years, now I'm wondering why? The staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel welcome, and the food was as good as any we have known in a chain pub. Easy parking and level access. We will definitely be coming back more regularly.

Family came down so we took them to the Ebdon.. We all had starters that were very delicious..then our mains that were very big portions..hot and delicious... Then desserts..i had the childrens dessert of doughnuts with choc dipping sauce as couldnt manage an adults dessert...!! Such a really much improved place to eat now..and must mention the young man wearing a chefs hat that said "liams hat" He was friendly and served all our meals with a smile😁

We booked the function room for our sons wedding reception on Fri 6th Oct, Louise and the team were fantastic from start to finish, allowing us time to decorate the room the evening before, accommodating our guests when they arrived a little earlier than planned, providing an amazing service during the afternoon and evening, serving a plentiful delicious buffet and when we went back the following day to retrieve our decor it was mostly all packed away neatly for us saving us a massive clear up, The staff also went above and beyond moving the balloon arch from the function room to the other end of the pub where we had booked a table for a friend’s 21st on the Saturday. Thank you all for making our special day run smoothly.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Ebdon on 15th of October , a very lovely cooked roast with lovely meat such good value for money it hard to believe !!!. With starter as well the whole cost for two was under £30, with extra cauliflower cheese with the roast . A choice of three starters and four main , we had no room pud which would feel would lovely as well . Well-done we look forward to a return visit .
