Such a shame closed to non residents for coffee or lunches

My mother and I (and two dogs) had a wonderful roast. The beef was amazing, vegetables cooked well and gravy delicious. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend 😀

First class in every way. Lovely customer service, absolutely delicious bread rolls, yummy breakfast filling and delicious coffee. Perfect. Going back tomorrow!

From arrival we had an amazing experience. Staff very friendly and food top notch. Didn't have to wait long either to be served our meals. Will definitely go back!

Most relaxing place to sit by the mill pond and have a drink or a bite to eat. The walk round the pond is lovely. The waterwheel is nice to see and there is a good antique shop.

Wonderful food and excellent service. The view is gorgeous. It's a bit old fashioned and that isn't everyone's cup of tea but the feeling of stepping back in time is part of it's charm. The waiting staff were immaculately dressed and the service was faultless. The food was delicious.

Location is only thing going for this place. I was the only vegetarian in the party and paid £50 for a smudge of goats cheese with beetroot and four tiny balls of blu tac as the main course. Waitress seemed embarrassed when I ordered, and I understand that now. One of our party was so disappointed with their (alleged) sea bass, they stormed off and ruined the evening for us all. Would not go back, unless it was to drink wine on their terrace.

Whilst the setting is lovely and the staff were very good the same cannot be said of the food, which was very disappointing and very over priced. My friend had checked that they could cater for a vegetarian, which was confirmed but there was absolutely no options other than a dreadful 'roast' vegetable salad, which had virtually no roast vegetables, a few roast auberges and peppers but otherwise it all came out of a jar, mozzarella cheese and rocket. I ordered place, which I am sure had been frozen as it was tasteless, soggy spinach, good tender stem broccoli. My poor friend put up with the 'roast' veg salad. We both had French fries which were of poor quality and not very nice. Puddings were good. Such a pity, so much scope to have provided a better meal. This is not a cheap restaurant and I could not recommend it unfortunately.

Just had the most fantastic lunch at the Kings head roast beef done to perfection pork succulent, 2 of our friends had the fish which in thier words was delicious. Staff so friendly. we are 8 locally people who live in Ruan if you want a good Sunday lunch or a fish dish this is the place to book. We went to the watch house last week for lunch, new staff there, a friendly girl called Amy served us, me and my partner both had fish and chips, was amazing as always. Love coming back to st mawes, definitely my favourite restaurant in Cornwall

The welcome was warm and the food was delicious. It isn’t difficult to see why this pub is so popular with both locals and tourists alike.

Had takeaway chips today - what has happened??? Normally have takeaway chips from here when visiting St Mawes and they have always been lovely traditional fish and chips. Today the “chips” were chunky frozen wedges style potatoes . Knew it wasn’t going to be good from the smell when waiting - not the normal chip shop chips. Awful - won’t bother again. Have also previously eaten in the restaurant but would not again after this experience.
