Staying on the Roseland in south Cornwall for 2 weeks, weather being awful.. eaten out most days mostly in the local pubs that do food.. in the main all average at best, some terrible ones as well.. We have just had dinner at the Kings Arms in Ruan Lanihorn.. absolutely wonderful, a cold wind blowing outside, roaring fire going inside.. best meal of the 2 weeks by a mile. Excellent Steak, moules mariniere delicious, the plumb, raspberry, pear & plum crumble with custard just the best ever!! All at a sensible price, served by a lady who makes sure you’re happy. Don’t miss this, it’s in a gorgeous small hamlet off the beaten track.. most definitely worth a visit. At moment, mid September 2024, the lane from Tregony is closed, but satnavs will find it from Ruan Highlanes. You will not be disappointed! So

Located in the centre of the village of Ruan Lanihorne, almost opposite the church is this gem of a pub. It is quite unspoilt and, although it is currently in need of a coat of paint outside, the new management of only a few weeks (reviewing late June 2024) is currently concentrating efforts on the interior where, if it doesn't move, it has either been re-painted or re-upholstered or if it hasn't, it will be very soon. Then work will begin on the exterior. The big surprise here was the food. The menu is not huge but there are specials. The quality, however, was exceptional. Sophia, the chef, who is also one of the partners in this venture, really knows her stuff and has a history of working in top class restaurants - and it shows! Local beers are served and the wine list was small but seemed well selected. The pub is dog friendly and child friendly. Parking by the pub is limited but there is parking nearby. There is an outside seating area and a small shady garden opposite. Both are on the "hit list" for improvement. I can only wish the new management success. They deserve it, so it is well worth the short drive off the main road to find it. Opening hours are currently limited so please check in advance.

Eaten here a couple of times and loved it on both occasions. The mussels on our first visit were among the best I've ever had, so was disappointed when they didn't have them on the menu second time around. But everything we've ordered here has been delicious. Lovely old pub too.

Imaginative and relatively short menu with venison, pheasant, ghoulash was good; food was well presented and service was friendly. The dining room was a little soul-less - perhaps partly because we were eating late and the only people in there - but also there was little decoration or interest in the room. Just a bit tired.

Very disappointed, had smoked prawns which were awful. Steak could have been lovely but way overly seasoned so left burning sensation in mouth and couldn't taste anything else! Husband faired better with his meal but still wasn't worth the £120 + we paid for three people, two of whom had coffee instead of a sweet. Atmosphere was lacking and we weren't asked if we would like more drinks. All in all we consider it a waste of money and won't be going back .

Excellent food in a cosy pub in a very peaceful village. There was a good range of starters, and main courses, with an emphasis on seafood, and a daily specials board. There was the option of trying a BBQ menu too. The food was beautifully presented, plentiful, and very well cooked. The service was exemplary, down to the doggy bag for the surplus (and delicious) chips. A lovely meal in a proper country pub with better than average food, and not too expensive

Not sure how anyone could rate this place less than five stars. From the friendly conversation when booking it was a lovely experience. Beautiful setting, family friendly, v good ales, but the show stopper is the food. Five or six elements of the roast were a total cut above the norm. Exquisite trimmings, I’m a veggie and it was a really good nut roast. How often can you say that? My wife had the pork and she said it was glorious. All this tiny village in the back and beyond. What an effort. It’s my second visit. And I can’t wait for the third. All the five star reviews totally justified.

We booked for Saturday lunch for 7 people as it was our friends birthday and we had seen reviews. After seeing the online menu, we were looking forward to a nice meal. Unfortunately, I am not the best of eaters, but I was looking forward to a good burger which is always my fall back position. The menu was on an A5 piece of paper. They also had a specials board with a Cajun Lamb burger, I cannot do spice food so ended up getting a ploughman’s with portion of chips as an extra. It consisted of a small bowl of olives, some chutney, salad and one slice of ham, a small piece of cheddar and a small piece of Camembert and two slices of bread. £14 plus the chips! Some of the other food that my friends chose was good, mussels, Pollock and prawns. Desserts were also on a small piece of paper but were ok. As it was my friends birthday, which our server picked up on, when her dessert came out, the chef had written Happy Birthday in chocolate sauce round the edge of the plate, very nice touch. Service was very slow, considering the place was empty, it took nearly 2.5 hours to have lunch. So on the whole, very disappointing.

Stopped in on the off chance to see if they did a Sunday roast. We were cutting it fine, but the lady behind the bar managed to squeeze us in, albeit outside. Nice, independent selection of beers and cider on tap. The roast was lovely, only two roasties, but this was more than made up for for a plentiful portion of lamb and a massive Yorkshire pud! Very good selection of veg brought out and everything was super tasty (top marks for the gravy!) Only marked down for loos, bit dark n dingey and no sign of mint sauce! (outside so couldn't take the time to go and ask for it as my food would go cold!) All in all, a cracking little pub, well worth the diversion!)

We last visited this pub six years ago with friends and had a fantastic experience. The food was delicious and as we were back in Cornwall we decided to go back and hopefully have another great night. We even booked a cab which cost us £65 so we could have a few Tarquin’s gin’s as this was where we discovered our favourite gin all those years ago. Unfortunately the place has changed out of all recognition and looks dilapidated and in need of seriousTLC. The outside needs a bloody good tidy up and jetwash if only to get rid of all the bird poo on the seats and umbrellas and a can of fly killer inside wouldn’t go amiss. The menu was dramatically reduced to the one on the website and the choice was sparse to say the least. I had A Venison burger which was okay to be fair but my wife’s Katsu Curry was served with soy sauce and not curry sauce and was bland and unappetising. The website promised Lobster and Partridge as well as Hake Mornay but none of there were available. Luckily we managed to get the cab to pick us up early and we won’t be returning in the future. The one positive was the girl behind the bar was pleasant but as we were the only couple eating when the place was jam packed the last time we visited shows how this pub has gone downhill and won’t be coming back. Very disappointed!!!

Recommended by our holiday cottage hosts at Benallack Farm, this was just ten miles away and well worth the easy trip. Friendly and accommodating welcome from Glen, front of house, and shown to an intimate table for two in the restaurant area. The boss had standard fish and chips -well cooked and presented with a generous portion of excellent chunky hand-cut chips. I enjoyed the venison carpaccio, served with a very good, creative rocket salad dressing, enhanced by a thoughtfully piquant sauce. The venison thinly but generously sliced and melted in the mouth. It was not a large meal - just what we needed- but a feast of colour and flavour accompanied by an attractive Portuguese merlot. In all, a most welcome holiday find for us both.

I love this pub - the food was amazing and now with options during the week, I can’t recommend enough. The Sunday Roast is outstanding, tasty and if Mark and Rachel are about it’s delivered with humour and lots of smiles. If you’re in the area, I recommend this as a stopping point. Amazing.

Had the chicken curry which was very tasty; nice chunks of chicken and mango chutney and all reasonably priced. Nice venue with music playing, Space Cowboys who were very good. Only fault was only 1 poppadom and no naan. For a few pence the meal would have gone from nice to excellent. Missed a trick there i think. Overall ok and we would both definitely go back.

We decided to make the journey down to St Keverne to see the firework display advertised at The Three Tuns. Beautiful little village pub, and very busy. An amazing, impressive fireworks display, great beer, incredible pizzas served outside, a spectacular bonfire on the field behind the massive beer garden, and last but not least, really friendly service and a warm welcome from everyone involved. Live music too. A lovely community event, we cannot wait to return next year for the fireworks but we'll be visiting for a meal much sooner.
