sadly, the roast was poor, potato's hard, and the yorkshire burnt. server took orders then forgot who in the group ordered it. the pub itself was nice. but if I was having a dinner party ,I would not serve burnt yorkshire puds. I wouldn't expect it from a professional kitchen. potatoes, were they just boiled or roasted hard to tell and the vegetarian gravy was think and lumpy a roast cost £17. more than oste pubs you go to.

Had an absolutely amazing meal here with my hubby whilst on holiday in the area, the food was delicious, very good quality and tasty, service was great, very friendly staff, can't fault a thing. We both had meals from the specials board, I had the chicken supreme and husband had the steak and ale pie where he changed the mash to chips which was no problem. Husband said it was the best pie he's had in ages really tasty filling with really tender meat and the shortcrust pastry that surrounded the pie was lovely too. Choose this pub through the already good Google reviews so here's another. If we holiday in the area in the future we'll be sure to return!

Fantastic pub in a lovely village. The licensee (James) and front of house Jake & Beth (and others) are so obliging and helpful. Food is excellent quality and reasonably priced for the area. It’s a hub of village activity and James ensures numerous events are organised throughout the year for the community from themed nights to open mic evenings. Well worth a visit.

Well worth a visit. Went to this pub on the last night of our holiday after seeing it advertised in the Newquay beer festival programme. We were very glad we did. Tried the fish of the day on the specials menu which was pan fried Pollock cooked to perfection. My partner tried the sausage ring and mash of the normal menu and was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and very efficient nice atmosphere and surroundings. We both had the chocolate sundae off the specials board for desert which was a real treat. Good selection of real ale available and excellent coffee. Wish we had this pub back home.

We visited the Pheasant as it was recommended by our nearby B&B (Degembris) and we were really pleased we did. Because we found the food and service to be excellent on the first night, we returned the following night and it was equally as good. Over the two nights we tried the burger, steak and kidney pie and mash and also the fish and chips. All the dishes were tasty and piping hot. I don’t know how they do it but the chips were as good as any we have tasted for years. The deserts were big enough to share and were excellent. Our B&B arranged a 10% discount deal with the pub, which we thought was an excellent idea and we were very happy to support. The cost of the meals was very reasonable, 2 x main, 1 pudding, couple of drinks each for £50ish.

A very cosy pub with a nice atmosphere and very handy being just a short walk from our holiday cottage. Great that it is also dog friendly. The food was lovely and the service very friendly. Our only negative was that we felt the menu was a bit limited and we would have liked more choice especially as we ate in the pub twice. What we did have was good. Pizzas, scampi, nachos, burgers. Good cocktails and drinks too. Would recommend.

We visited this little pub on May 19th for my birthday with my mum and stepdad. My mother and I had the roast lamb on the specials board which was £19 each, quite expensive for a roast but we didn’t mind was a special occasion. We were then informed they had no Cauliflower cheese which was another £2 extra but instead we could have leek cheese, so that pushed it up to £20 each as we shared a portion. Ok so our meals turned up and on both our plates was the smallest amount of meat placed on top of some veg to look like a stack of meat it was a pitiful amount. We asked for more which the waitress kindly got us a little more. Then we turned over our small Yorkshire puddings which were placed on the plate burnt side down to obviously hide the fact they were so burnt, these were handed back to the waitress as they were inedible. Both mine and my mother’s plates were practically dry of gravy to which we had to ask for more befor we’d even started our meals. To top it all off while the waitress who had now been back to the kitchen 3 times was in the kitchen…. No salt and pepper on the table so we had to get up and go fetch our own condiments. All this time with our food getting cooler. All 3 of us left very disappointed.

Amazing Sunday lunch! Excellent service and very accommodating as we booked last minute in what is a very popular pub for Sunday lunch.. the roasts we had, one vegetarian beetroot wellington and a gluten free lamb were really good and one of the best we’ve had in Cornwall. Only downside was the portion of lamb I had compared to the other diners having a normal lamb roast.. still unsure why that was? I would still recommend and will definitely return when in Cornwall again.

The car park is difficult to find and too small for the pub. We were allocated a small crowded table even though we were the only diners in the restaurant. The staff claimed that we had not qualified for the complementary early booking drink but we had and the staff eventually agreed. There was only one real ale on draught which was a very bland Doom Bar which is no longer the beer it once was. My wife was unable to eat her starter as it was too spicy. Only two of the desserts that we pre-ordered were available but the staff did offer complimentary drinks to compensate.

This is a traditional pub set in a charming Cornish village about three miles south of Newquay and there is a warm and cosy atmosphere. The young publican welcomed us and we enjoyed a glass of Merlot and a pint of American Pale Ale whilst waiting for our choice of fish and chips. The Tartare sauce was home-made and the peas infused with delicious mint, the rustic chips were well cooked and the fish perfectly crisp on the outside and meltingly good when you broke through the golden batter. All done for two for around £15 total - a real treat and one we shall repeat in the near future. Well worth a visit and giving it your support.

My meal "pie of the week" Pie was actually ok however the broccoli couldn't even cut with a knife was that raw and the mash from a packet is not what u expect paying so much for one meal and again could have at home ,the total price for 3 mains and five drinks ,@£72 not value for money. Quite possibly the worst pub experience I’ve ever had. (Sep 2023)For starters, the woman behind the bar could not be any more miserable if she tried-I genuinely think she tried, too. We asked to try a sample of some of the red wines as we wanted to purchase a bottle, and were told that samples were not an option and if we wanted to try any wines, we would have to purchase a bottle. Fair enough, 3 small glasses as samples were purchased. The Sunday roast was average. We finished food, but left 2x half full glasses of wine on the table, a coat on the back of one chair and a hat on the other. Upon returning, the wine was removed along with the hat from the back of the chair. My partner informed the manager and asked for our wine to be returned and we were met with inconvenient stares, and then a thimble of wine as an offering. I then spoke up and voiced that we should at least be given a single pour of wine for the inconvenience, not to mention our glasses of wine being removed from the table. It was also clear that a young bar staff had swiped our hat, but didn’t want to return it. When none of the 3 bar staff admitted they took the hat, I took it upon myself to ask the tables if they had accidentally taken the hat by mistake. Turns out, the young sticky hands behind the bar took the hat and offered it back after I had asked her earlier if she had taken it. Needless to say, it was a shocking experience today, and £80 spent. We’ve been there before and the food was outstanding and the service and management from a male was enough to get us to go back. However, todays experience will go down as one of the worst. You don’t expect young bar staff to steal your items when you nip to the loo, and further whoever is in charge needs to do better. We’re paying guests, and your staff made us feel like an inconvenience simply for walking in to the pub.
