Arrived in Kingsand for a weeks holiday. Went to this pub which was the closest to our accommodation. It was great. Welcomed in with our dogs. Sat with some locals. Great beer and great atmosphere. Cannot comment of food but everything else great.

Absolutely lovely pub with a great atmosphere. We had a mixed table of kids and adults and ordered loads of chilli and chips and it was delicious. The landlady was so lovely and we’d highly recommend the Rising Sun. Gutted to have gone there on our last night in Kingsand as we’d have probably been there every night!

Where the hell do I begin........... I am still in a deep state of shock. Words fail me for this absolute gem of a pub.and it is the quintessential English pub in so many ways and thankfully, a lively house. You will not be on your own (but you can if you want to be. Right troops, fall in, no talking at the back and listen up. It is a locals pub but with a huuuuge heart to any waifs and strays who cross the threshold. The locals go out of their way to welcome you and after the first visit there is handshakes all round on your next visit. The landlord (Mike) greets everyone like a long-lost friend and I'm convinced he would marry anyone (male, female or animal) if it would help in their life. His wife is American and is an utterly charming lady with an Alabaman sense of humour. Drinks - wide selection and at least 3 real ales, all at VERY reasonable prices. There are music nights and, according to legend, a huge, roaring fire in Winter. Food - hells bells and buckets of blood, the food is exceptional. I had a lamb curry which had layer upon layer of taste sensations and I have been to many curry houses in London and Brum which all need to send their chefs here for a ruddy good refresher. The rest of the food I will try from tomorrow but what I have seen being served to customers beggars belief. I'm certain Gordon Ramsey is moonlighting here. Full props to the chef, he is one step past genius. That's it folks, miss this gem at your peril and expect to eat and drink considerably more than you expected. BTW, the bogs are very good as well. (I know it matters to some).

A great pub! Lovely spot for an evening drink or two in the sunshine. Also the food was delicious. Staying just around the corner on a multi-generational family break we ordered a takeaway consisting of various curries and fish & chips - all the meals were beautifully cooked and well packed to take away. Fantastic choice of curries! We sat at the bar with a drink and enjoyed chatting with the landlord and his daughter while we were waiting for our order to be prepared. V friendly and welcoming pub and would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.

We’ve just returned from the Rising Sun and I wanted to write a quick review straightaway. Although we’ve been coming to this area for years, this was the first time we’ve tried this pub. Why??! We’ve been missing out big time. Absolutely brilliant and hallelujah, at last a traditional pub. Fantastic and very friendly welcome for us and our dog. We had a lovely meal, my curry was divine and very fresh, my husband and son had steaks and said they were perfect too. The guys behind the bar couldn’t do enough for us. We’d have stayed for the evening but unfortunately we had to get away ready for the journey home in the early hours. We come to Kingsand and Cawsand twice a year and this will now be a regular haunt for us. Oh and the beer was spot on too. Faultless.

Hey fellow adventurers! 🌍 So, I ventured a bit off the beaten path and landed at "The Rising Sun" in Cawsand. Let me tell ya, it's one of those hidden gems that remind you why small pubs are the heart of the UK. First up, the beer. Classic choices, each pour better than the last. You can tell they take their brews seriously here. But what really made the experience? The people. The owner is an absolute legend – made me feel like I was popping over to an old mate's place rather than stepping into a pub for the first time. It's that kind of warmth that sticks with you. And speaking of friendly vibes, the place was buzzing with locals. You know you've struck gold when you walk into a room full of chatter, laughter, and those authentic local vibes. It's the kind of place where everyone might not know your name (yet!), but they'll treat you like they do. No sweeping views here, but trust me, you won't miss them. The real charm of "The Rising Sun" is its heart and soul, and the feeling of community that wraps around you the moment you walk in. If you find yourself in Cawsand and you're after genuine company, top-notch beer, and a taste of local life, make sure to swing by "The Rising Sun". Might bump into ya next time I'm there, sharing a pint and a story or two! Cheers! 🍻

Relatives had Fish Chowder; Burger, Chips & Salad; Sausage, Chips & Beans. All enjoyed meals although did find prawns to be a little tough (suspected were added too early); portion of Fish Chowder whilst delicious, was little on small size, although all certainly didn't lack in taste & was well presented 😊 Great pub set in pretty picturesque village of Kingsand, with outdoor & indoor seating. Due to its popularity, booking is recommended if planning to eat there.

Stopped for lunch on a Sunday. Just the locals in situ when we arrived. Only one barmaid who was also helping in kitchen so bar unattended for long periods Ordered two drinks and a chilli cheese chips & ham & pea soup. £8.95 for the soup was a bit steep with one slice of thin bread There was a wait of 25 minutes for the food and the soup was lukewarm on arrival but was hungry so didn't return to the kitchen. It tasted OK but seemed like the chunks of ham were thrown in at the end and were quite hard The chilli cheese chips were tasty enough(difficult to go wrong with such an easy dish) I mentioned the lukewarm soup when the barmaid cleared dishes and she apologised. Won't be returning anytime soon, will try one of the other two local eateries.

A cosy, welcoming atmosphere but probably the worst food I have ever been served. My reheated lasagne came sprinkled with grated cheese. The cheese was hiding the hard burnt lasagne which was impossible to cut. My husbands cottage pie consisted of a small portion of greyish mince, a few sliced potatoes and a huge helping of peas. My friend’s carrot and coriander soup was so spicey she couldn’t eat it. To be fair, we were offered alternatives but it was disappointing to find such a low standard of cooking. The Saturday evening guitar player made the evening bearable.

Nice pub with a local feel to it. Decent beer. But the “famous” fish soup was extremely disappointing. It was basically a tomato and vegetable concoction with a few bits of fish thrown in. If you like tomato and peppers and aren’t looking for the taste of fish, this might be for you. But I like neither, and even when eating the fish I didn’t get any fish taste at all, it could have been lumps of anything (and not that much of it), along with 2 mussels and one small prawn. I guess the fact that we were the only people eating there possibly tells it’s own story. The menu was very basic with very little choice. Not recommended.

We have been visiting Kingsand/Cawsand for many years and have always loved the Rising Sun for the traditional Cornish Pub it was. We visited this week and instantly felt deflated when we walked in. We last came in 2017 and it was a characterful pub with pictures/decor mimicking it’s history/location offering great food. The comparison to what it is now is stark. Firstly I was shocked that I couldn’t access a menu online via a website which in our times is inconvenient. There is no reminisce of what it used to be and now lacks atmosphere and character. We were then further disappointed with the tacky menu on a tv in the corner and plastic wallet menus that look half hearted. The food choice was terrible and the food tasted OK - nothing to shout about. Lastly, it’s meant to be a Cornish pub but they don’t serve Cornish beer. Very sad to see after all the happy memories we’ve had there over the years. Will be considering the other choice of restaurants/pubs in the village before this next time.

We were visiting my brother in Falmouth at uni and took the ferry over to Flushing. The Royal Standard was perfect - we had a lovely roast (at very reasonable price) and then sat out the front terrace in the sunshine afterwards We had starters - hummus, mackerel pate and cured meats which were all great. Followed by Chicken, beef and pork which were also all lovely and came with delicious cauliflower cheese. The pub has a beer garden and is very cosy! Highly recommend and will be back on my next trip.

We had a wonderful time at this fantastic pub, where a very friendly bar lady warmly welcomed us. As a family of five with three young children, we found this place to be incredibly family-friendly. The food was superb, with fresh seafood, and the king's prawns and scallops were particularly delicious. The downstairs area of the pub has a great atmosphere – cozy, warm, and with an old-world charm. We sat upstairs at a large table with views over the bay. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable evening during our holiday. I also thought the prices for both food and drinks were very reasonable. We would definitely visit again when we're next in the area.

If you’re going around Kingsand or stay nearby, you must at least visit this historic pub. We had cornish pastries which were very lovely and massive as well as some drinks. The place was very beautiful as the pub is seafront. We went there when it was raining quite heavily and windy but i bet that it would be very nice when it’s summer or spring.

I stay in a lot of hotels as I work on the road, but I've not reviewed a single one. This place was special. First off, the rooms are clean, beds are comfy, amenities are good, WiFi is great! You get more than what you pay for, which isn't alot might I add! But the single best thing and the Bells, is the people. The Landlady Kirtsy and even the other patrons were all simply lovely people. Literally offered me the food off of their table. Best service I've ever received while staying anywhere. If the world were full of people such as Kirtsy it'd be a brighter place! If I'm ever down this way again, I wouldn't hesitate to book a room. Top marks.
