Friendly staff great atmosphere

As I am always on the look out for local proper beer on my travels, I was very happy to stumble across this excellent pub on a warm Saturday afternoon the other day. The bitter, seemingly brewed in the back room, was absolutely excellent. It was full of rich flavour and had an excellent easy taste. The lady behind the bar, whilst clearly busy, was friendly, chatty and a dab hand with a grabber when asked for packets of crisps! Sitting outside amongst both locals and visitors helped complete the experience and in my view, The Crown is well worth a visit or two…. or three etc etc Enjoy😀

We popped in while staying in Penzance for just one night. Lovely proper pub, really friendly atmosphere and the Ale was great! We made a fuss of Lemonade, the resident cat and got chatting with one of the regulars David, was an absolute pleasure to meet you and share our evening and a few halves of Ale.

Eine tolle, gemütliche und authentische Bar, um gemütlich ein paar Bier oder Gin Tonic zu trinken. Die Biere sind richtig gut (meine Empfehlung: Causeway Bitter) und recht günstig. Die Betreiber sind sehr freundlich - UND hier wohnt die wunderbare, extrem niedliche und liebe Katze Lemonade, die meine Frau sehr glücklich gemacht hat, als sie sich ausführlich streicheln ließ. :)

Friendly service and atmosphere, a good selection of local beers

So I came in for a pint of luscious cidre, and was halfway through drinking it until the landlord (who was clearly on something) took my pint away and threw it onto the street. He claimed that I was on “pubwatch”, which verifiably isn’t true, so maybe he had a problem with ginger people or something. In any case, if it wasn’t for the appallingly rude management, I would recommend this place based on the good beer selection and decent over-50s community spirit. It’s a shame that some pub landlords are still taking substances and take it out on their customers. But that’s Penzance for you.

We’ve just moved to Penzance and was really looking forward to popping into our new local pub. What a fab little pub. A great atmosphere, very welcoming and we really enjoyed the quiz night. Feeling very lucky that The Crown is only a few minutes walk away from home. It’s not pretentious, they don’t do food, and thankfully not themed. Just a super friendly and great community pub.

Superb example of the classic British pub. No TVs, games machines, or distracting music. Good beer (& other drinks), good conversation, good atmosphere.

My third visit while spending a few days in Penzance. What a great pub. If this were my local I'd be a regular for sure. The beer is fantastic and you're made to feel very welcome as a visitor.

disgusting place I visited from Denmark and someone was vaping inside the pub. Couldn't wait to leave that filth.

Wondering around we stumbled on The Crown up a side street and on the corner of residential square, it is reminiscent of small bars you would find in the outskirts of European towns. A nice selection of beers on tap from the brewer and owners Cornish Crown. For purely research purpose we tried the three cask beers and all were excellent, served at a good temperature and perfectly poured. The bar is small but not overly so, very clean and there were even fresh flowers on the tables. The outside seating is on the edge of the square and is a great sun trap. The young woman behind the bar was friendly and pleasant. Definitely worth seeking out if you are in Penzance, it is only a couple of minutes from the train/bus station. Thoroughly recommended and somewhere we will definitely be returning to when we are in the area.

Toller Bierpub mit nettem Service und Einheimischen. Etwas abgelegen oberhalb der Hauptstraße, aber ein Besuch wert.

A delightful real ale and keg tap house, the beer was well kept and you can be amused just listening to the locals sharing their views on life. Dogs are welcome and there is a resident cat. It is off the High Street so takes a bit of finding but well worth it

A visit to Penzance would not be the same without a couple of Causeways in the Crown!

Nice back street pub/microbrewery selling a selection of their own beers and other drinks. Friendly with indoor and outdoor seating. No food served here but you can bring your own.

Lovely spot, been looking for somewhere to spend an hour or so whilst waiting for the train back to Hayle. Really friendly, awesome beer (I am a beer snob) tucked up a quiet little street in a lovely spot. Can’t recommend the Porter highly enough 😊

Klassischer Pub (ohne Essen) mit regelmäßiger Livemusik. Aus dem Bierhahn kommt Bier aus der lokalen Brauerei "Cornish Crown". Absolute Empfehlung!

Absolutely beautiful place and beautiful people all the staff went above and beyond for us, we had a little wait for food they did let us know but it was so worth the wait with the homemade food you could tell it was all homemade and because of the wait we got free desserts and wow absolutely stunning the room was beautiful to, 10/10 would definitely come again the food was so clean and lovleu the room was absolutely spotless

Had an excellent pint of locally brewed beer at this quirky pub in the backstreets of Penzance. A good place to watch locals and tourists as they explore the varied and interesting parts of Penzance. Friendly service with a smile.

Called in here a couple times during our stay, small but really friendly pub, just behind the main street. There isn't any food served here but what I personally, enjoyed was that, the only beers and lagers are from their own brewery, Cornish Crown, apart from one cider. If you want muti-national brands this is not the place for you. As a lager drinker I tried both the Cornish Pilsner and my favourite, Longrock Cornish Lager. Whilst my brother was a big fan of both Cornish Crown IPA and Cornish Crown SPA, we will definitely revisit, next time in Penzance.

Sharps beers, had Sea Fury and Anthem, also fish of the day take very tasty with gorgeous vegetables

Best pint in Penzance, the pub is small, cosy and has a great juke box. It is a must visit when in the area, popped in for one and ending up staying for three. Fantastic place, a proper pub and all the beer is from their own brewery.

Small Penzance pub and micro-brewery with friendly, personable staff and a fantastic beer garden. They have regular 'pub' things on as well - a folk night, a quiz, etc.

Great little Pub. Having walked around Penzance looking for a decent place for a pint, I found this place. Tuesday night was quiz night /was encouraged to join a team in a packed, atmospheric space and had a wonderful impromptu evening -plus there is a pub cat who chills about the place -awesome!!!

Cosy and friendly. really nice beers and lovely service too - main highlight was meeting lemonade the cat in the back room! We’ll definitely be back :)

What a great pub! I love to find places that serve their own beer, Michelle was very friendly and welcoming and so were the locals, dog friendly and fantastic beer! I highly recommend the Longrock Lager

This pub is a recent find and a real gem of a pub in Penzance. The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff very personable and the locally brewed beer is quite delicious. I recommend this place without reservation.

Small artisan brewery pub, with a fine selection of beers. Community centred feel with many locals enjoying a lovely small pub just off the main street. Order, collect, and eat the local pizza and drink their beer, fabulous.

Small and intimate pub with friendly staff, their selection on tap isnt the most inspiring and isnt to my taste, but it is cheap and they do nice events/quizes. Quiet surroundings so the outside shuts at 22:00 so if here is no space inside you may have an issue.

Great staff, really friendly and welcoming, made you feel at home very quickly. The beer is absolutely awesome too, they have their own brewery locally and you can pick up some of their cans to take away. The quiz is a great laugh too! Will be back!

I have lived in Penzance for 3 months and unfortunately have to move back up North, but Michelle and Josh and all the ladies, Ruby, Tis, Leah and Pippa at the Crown have always made me feel more than welcome and the home brewed beer is really special and worth every penny. There is a lovely community of regulars in the pub and they are all so very welcoming aswell. I will truly miss the Crown and all of you, it became a home away from home. Thank you all so much. Matt

Quaint tiny pub,tucked away. Had amazing pint of pilsner made in their own micro brewery, a rare pub from the past.

Laid back small pub with great craft beer. They don't do food but allowed us to order a take away and eat it there. Really kind landlady and great beer. Kids and dogs welcome!

Towards the end of our stay in Penzance we found this little gem of a pub. We were welcomed in like old friends along with my very large dog cookie. The beer was excellent and hospitality top class. Sitting chatting with the staff and locals it was more like a meeting of good friends than of people who had only just met, it's just a shame that we only found the pub on our last night. If I am in Penzance again in the future I will definitely make another visit!

2nd visit to Penzance - 2nd (multiple!) visits to this pub. Proper ale from their own brewery, friendly owners and a real local flavour. Made to feel very welcome and will definitely be back on our next visit…..a real pub tan by real people with real drinks - what’s not to like?!

The best pub in Penzance unquestioned!

Was a little disappointed. It was a rainy day and maybe we were looking for a little bit more. Friendly enough welcome from staff and other customers. Looked like there was only one cask ale on, we were looking for some food if only a sandwich (not realising till later that the local customers knew to bring in their own sandwiches and pasties from town). Only one room that I could see, a little cramped.
