Most relaxing place to sit by the mill pond and have a drink or a bite to eat. The walk round the pond is lovely. The waterwheel is nice to see and there is a good antique shop.

Our third and final full day of this, our last, mini staycation of summer 2021, based in the pretty village and harbour of St Mawes. We had on the previous day spent time driving around the lower coast of Cornwall and went as far as Mevagissey. On our return to St Maves we travelled down though Veryan before joining the A3078 which is the main road to St Mawes. We saw this café and made a mental note to return here at lunch time, and today we navigated to have a snack lunch. The mill here at Melinsey is a tranquil little place and on better day it’s a pleasant shaded spot at the bottom of a steep sided valley. The menu was end of season affected, there is an outdoor pizza oven but it wasn’t in operation. If it had been we would undoubtedly partaken of one. Our lunch was a simple sandwich: my partner had a home-cooked ham salad sandwich with crisps, and I had a tuna sandwich also with crisps. The bread was particularly good being a food fresh soft wholemeal. Teas and coffees were good too.

We happened across this wonderful place as we were leaving Veryan. Just wow! It's not smart but we thought it is absolutely terrific. A secret garden. The cream tea was two scones, a huge amount of cream and jam, tea came in a pretty teapot with extra water and teabags, to top up. It was £6.40, which we thought was very good value for what we received. We sat on a table made from a water tank, beside a small waterfall, in amongst plants and flowers but there was other seating and covered areas around a pond. Inside the building are some mill workings and things for sale (including homemade jams and chutneys) I would love to re-visit this special place

This place was listed as one of Cornwall’s top 10 hidden gems. We drove an hour to get there for a special family lunch. Part of the attraction for us was the art work of a big spider, mermaid etc. That the children could find. My 6 year old was less than impressed. The service was poor, other than the two young girls the ladies were less than welcoming on arrival. As for the food menu it was extremely limited and not a great standard. I certainly wouldn’t put it as one of Cornwall’s top 10 and would only stop if passing and want a cake and coffee.

A friend told us about it. We went. What a fascinating place it is. Quirky. Eldritch hardly does it justice: you can imagine a Cornish piskey round every corner (I'm sure I saw one on the shrubs on the other side of the pond). The setting is fairy-tale: you could easily spend half an hour or more just mooching around but (if the weather's good) lazily quaffing by the sylvan pond is just as good. The lunchtime menu is fairly small and somewhat idiosyncratic but the food is delicious. I had the Stilton and broccoli soup - not too exotic. We had a small problem while we were there (nothing to do with the place) and the friendly staff could not have been more helpful. Not sure what to put (below) about groups. The actual "restaurant" is fairly small (about 24 settings at a push) but there is lots of room (and tables) outside, around the pond and garden (including a neat, wooden "shelter" with pond views). Great for groups if the weather is good. Highly recommended.

We stumbled across this gorgeous little place on the way to Portloe and stopped for a coffee and cake to fuel up before taking on the coast path and I'm so glad that we did. The setting is idyllic and a little bit quirky, with old mill stones being upcycled into table tops around one side of a gorgeous pond, and a cute little path around the rest of the pond. They also do pizza nights on Wednesdays, Thursdays and fridays and we liked it so much for coffee that we booked in for one of these - what a joy, fairy lights reflected in the pond and the tastiest wood fired pizza in the south west (in my opinion anyway!)

Although I have lived only about twelve miles away for the last sixty several years I only discovered this place recently. What a great place for a cake and a cuppa. I have never been a fan of the big chain coffee shops or the cafes in tourist venues. This place is different in every way. It is a family run business with a big difference. The grounds are lovely with a lake and an eccentric walk around it. Teapot alley, a mermaid and a very short camper are among the unusual sights. You will want to take your time for your snack and drink as there is so much to see. There is a craft shop and a fully functioning water wheel and mill and a micro-museum. Oh yes, and an excellent cafe. If you visit Cornwall this is a "must visit". Also, it is in the Roseland peninsula. One of the nicest places you will ever visit. I love Cornwall so much.

The aim while in Cornwall was to have a Cream Tea - Melinsey Mill was recommended by the team at the Veeryan Camping and Caravan Club Site. Inside there were lots of little dining areas and a new build outside looking over the lake. We chose the Mill room with the grinding stone working in the background and lots of collectables and old farm machinery on display . 3 members selected Ploughman's and I went for the Cream Tea. We called in a couple of weeks ago and were disappointed to find that, even though it was only just past midday, several things on the menu were not available. In the end we settled for Welsh Rarebit. I decided to have a bottle of beer but the lady behind the counter took a look at the little fridge thing and declared they were out of beer. I hadn’t expected that the sorry looking glass fronted fridge held the entire drinks supply for the cafe and, wrongly assumed, further supplies would be stored somewhere else in the building.

I think my thoughts about Melinsey Mill are evident from the fact that I visit on every holiday I take on the Roseland! If anything that sets the bar even higher; going back to a beloved location risks being disappointed by it just not being quite as you remember. Dishes come and go on the daily specials but it's great if you visit on a grey day and the hearty Melinsey soup is on the menu; delicious! Never yet had a lunch here that wasn't delicious, actually, be it a doorstep sandwich from the menu or a soup or stew or smoked fish from the specials. Lemon meringue pie was not really to my taste - the filling tasted like it was made with condensed milk and whether or not this was actually an ingredient it's not the right character for lemon meringue pie. But frankly it serves me right for being greedy; no dessert was needed after a filling Melinsey soup with bread and cheese.

I love the Mill. It happens to be on the way home from work, so in the summer when I'm shockingly busy and have to rush around to clients houses, it's wonderful to call in at the Mill and have whatever the time of day requires. The millpond is an oasis of calm, even though it's buzzing with wildlife. The walk around the pond is enchanting, and sometimes a nest with tiny eggs will be seen in some of the teapots hanging from the trees. There are always dozens of birds here, and the only time I have ever seen the usually shy Jay close up is here, when one perched on the bird table momentarily before winging away with it's prize. The sandwiches are half-doorstep or doorstep. Choose which depending on your capacity for consumption and the need to move again in the next hour... Cakes are fabulous, and the Bakewell tart is the best you'll find outside of Bakewell itself! A pot of tea seems to go on forever, and the coffee is damn good too. There are also a selection of beers. Soups are great (apart from the time I forgot that I can't stand blue cheese, but luckily it wasn't in the soup, but served with it - I took a bite, remembered why I never eat 'sock cheese' and handed it to hubby, who, as usual, thought it was delicious. Some people are very odd.) and the bread is always of the 'cutty loaf' variety - real bread! There are crafts and artworks for sale, including some great work by local artist Sonia Callaway, in her 'naive' style. Many are of local areas and are well worth grabbing to take home if you are holidaying here. During the height of the season the Mill is also open three (I think) evenings a week for wood-fired pizzas, and these are superb. The road to the Mill is probably the only downpoint - very steep and narrow, but it is also the quickest way to the village, which is why a surprising amount of people drive along it. Still, reversing practice is always good, and anyone who says they can't reverse needs to do more of it... A lovely walk down to Pendower Beach (eventually) is also nearby - best time to go is in Spring when the bluebells carpet the woodland. The Mill closes for the winter, which is perhaps it's worst point - I have to wait until Spring before my winter depression and lack of Bakewell tart wears off!

Very welcoming, Great ice cream flavours. Especially the Ferrero Roche and Millionaires shortbread. Lady went above and beyond for our dog letting her sit in the shade on a 25 degree day to enjoy her pup cup. Thank you!

the only place open on a Sunday on St Martins! So glad it was open, it was absolutely heaving but we got there in time to get seats and what was left of the cakes and drinks.
