Had takeaway chips today - what has happened??? Normally have takeaway chips from here when visiting St Mawes and they have always been lovely traditional fish and chips. Today the “chips” were chunky frozen wedges style potatoes . Knew it wasn’t going to be good from the smell when waiting - not the normal chip shop chips. Awful - won’t bother again. Have also previously eaten in the restaurant but would not again after this experience.

Very mediocre fish and chips from the take out hatch. Waited 20 minutes to order and another 10 to be served. Chaotic ordering system. Had large fish and chips with curry sauce and home made tartare. Chips are very obviously “ mccanns” frozen chips. Totally tasteless . Fish was ok - smallish piece , batter good. Was the nicest element. Tartare - more akin to mayonnaise , lacking in capers or flavour. Curry sauce - very salty. Hope those in the restaurant get better fare. I wouldn’t particularly recommend as a tasty fish supper .

The best fish and chips ever. Chips were huge and very crispy, not greasy. The fish was delicious. My partner had fish goujans and he said it was the best he had ever had. Super impressed.

Sadly, very disappointing take away fish 'n' chips. It took absolutely ages for the order to be fulfilled, it was very, very expensive, and the meals themselves were dry and very poor - seemed as though they had been kept warmed up for hours. Avoid unless you are stuck for a (much better) alternative.

Got a take away fish supper to take to the beach. Really enjoyed it. Best chunky chips ever. Beautifully crisp on the outside, while light and fluffy on the inside. Fish was good too. Freshly cooked. Batter wasn’t too heavy

Great location on the front. Also part of a restaurant. We were expecting a great end to a great day out. Fish was nice, chips not so. Disappointed.

Just was in need of a lunch on the cheap. Called at the co op for a meal deal but was yearning for chips as well. The chips were absolutely the best I have ever tasted. I would go back here just for these! Great prices too

Grab a takeaway of chips and mushy peas from this place with my partner, and was pleasantly surprised! They use veggie oil, pretty important for us vegans. And their mushy peas? Delicious. Not the usual processed type, but fresh and flavoursome.

My husband and I had fish and chips from this very modest looking take away on the harbour in St Maws in June 23. It was truly excellent! The fish (cod) was very fresh, the batter light, crisp and delicious and the chips crunchy and tasty. It really was one of the best fish and chips experiences ever! Highy recommended.

The takeaway fish and chips were excellent. Freshly cooked, lovely flaky fish and crispy chips, and good mushy peas. Plenty of seats nearby beyond the Idle Rocks Hotel to sit and eat.

Our first night in St Mawes and we chose the Watchtower because it was on the sea front and close to our B&B. We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming from the off and continued so through the experience. We went for the specials, Ribeye Steak and the sweet, Strawberry and cream baked alaska which was served by the Head Chef! (A nice touch) and a carafe of red wine to top it all. All of which was excellent. Well done all to the Watch Tower Team.

Was really looking forward to this, ordered a large fish and chips, not cheap, but hey I'm on holiday. Fair to say staff seemed both grumpy and disinterested. Food was disappointing, chips were a combination of both undercooked and overcooked ( not and easy ting to do) the fish was OK, but very small considering this was a large portion Not a great experience

Freshly cooked, beautiful flaky white fish. Chips are crispy and very tasty. Generous portions. Not cheap and at the busier times, you have to wait, but WELL worth it. Recommend sitting on the beach opposite if the weather is good.

This little through-the-hatch chippy is a good option for food while in town, but unlike most chip shops, The Watch Out isn't much cheaper than a sit down meal in a restaurant. There was also quite a long wait for the food, which was pretty good, as you'd expect from a chip shop.

Visited St Mawes on the ferry from Falmouth, just fancied some fish and chips whilst sat in the harbour watching the world go by, saw this chippy and had high expectations but was sadly very very disappointed. Ordered 2 portions, had to wait 10 mins for them to be cooked which wasn’t a problem, the issue was the chips, not the traditional hand cut chips you assume your going to get at a chippy but frozen chips cooked in the fryer and they were awful, really, really disappointing and both lots of chips went in the bin, and to top it off they were £10 for a regular portion.

Was very excited about eating fish and chips by the harbour, Watch Out was recommended by a hotel i was staying at in St Mawes. Sadly it was a bit of a disappointment, fish was small and over cooked and the chips were terrible! Ordered 4 portions and all of us felt the same way. Disappointing!

Worst chips I have ever had. Ordered 2 portions of chips and 2 pots of curry sauce. Waited over half an hour. The chips were really dry and hard as though they had been in the warming cabinet all day and the curry sauce was lukewarm. The queue outside was not because they were busy but because they were inefficient, the chips were inedible and went in the bin. Not great when you have just driven 400 miles and are really hungry. Whoever owns this business needs to organise some staff training. Would have awarded zero but minimum able to award on here is 1.

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

For a spot of lunch, my wife and two children decided to eat here. Never again. We settled on the beef style kebabs (on a skewer). With rice. The beef was tough, tastless, rough and badly cooked. I was a butcher, I should know! Rice was microwaved but still undercooked! The salad that came with it was soggy, rotten and floppy. The best part of the meal was the kids fish goujons. We spent 70 quid (including drinks) on some of the worst food I've eaten.
