Wonderful food and excellent service. The view is gorgeous. It's a bit old fashioned and that isn't everyone's cup of tea but the feeling of stepping back in time is part of it's charm. The waiting staff were immaculately dressed and the service was faultless. The food was delicious.

Went for lunch today with my sister over from Australia. Having dined and stayed there over the years we were singing the hotel s praises to her. What a disappointment I had to go looking for someone to take my wife’s coat, the luncheon menu was minimal, I was offered water at the beginning of the meal which was never replenished in fact no better then an average restaurant. Three crab sandwiches, three pudding’s £115.00

We visited for a family Sunday lunch in April 2023.. £47 is the cost of the Sunday lunch and this includes canapés, a starter, main course, dessert, cheese and then coffee with petit fours. Wow! Although some of the menu options come out from the kitchen as normal, we went for the ‘trolley’ options which meant a wide choice of seafood starters, roast beef carved at the table and then lots of desserts to pick from. All the food was of a good standard with attentive service. Although not cheap, this was a great value Sunday lunch. NB We were not resident in the hotel and it may be that, when the Quarterdeck restaurant (also within the same hotel) re-opens after building works are completed, it will again not be possible to eat here unless you are a hotel resident

A stunning location and very polite and attentive service, but sadly that's where it ends. There is clearly an emphasis on service over food here. The fish was overcooked and the accompaniments were bland. The dessert looked pretty, but was all style over substance. The atmosphere was stuffy and pretentious. If you're looking for a good meal in this part of Cornwall, there are plenty of other properly foodie destinations.

This stunningly positioned hotel has been somewhere we have visited and eaten at many times through the years and it has always been lovely. But, not today. The waitress, Christina was delightful and friendly but our complaint was with the food. I had The Nare Crab Sandwich (£19.95), which I have had before and it has always been lovely but today, although the filling was good the bread was very dry. I had to ask for some mayonnaise to soften it up. The filling was delicious, the bread not so. My husband ordered the rump of lamb with dauphinois potatoes and tender stem broccoli and lamb jus (£24. 95) His lamb was cold and tough. He struggled to cut it and ate as much as he could. ( we were hungry) It had so much sinew he gave up eating it. The broccoli was cold and the potatoes luke warm. It was not what we expected from such a usually excellent eatery. Was it a blip? Even so we doubt we will visit again. It's a shame as it is such a lovely place.

We have just returned from my Mum’s 80th Birthday meal at the Nare. We were a party of 10, and we all were looking forward to a splendid meal. Everything was looking perfect, until my Main dish of lamb arrived, which was just two slices of fat a gristle, I couldn’t find much meat on it at all. At the end of the meal I addressed the head waitress, to express my concern, and also one other person in my party said the same about the lamb. On discussion at least 5 people were left very underwhelmed by the meal, and feel that the standards have slipped at this establishment. When the bill arrived, two meals had been taken off of the bill, to compensate for the poor quality of the lamb. Sadly we have been to three establishments over the Christmas period and today, that were sub par in the food department . The Greenbank, Tresanton and The Nare , which I’m afraid we won’t be back visiting anytime soon. We’ve paid top money, for below par product, very sad, as in the past we were enthralled by the food and service at the Nare,

Every single morsel we chose on our plates over a 4 day stay was sublime. The service was thoughtfully professional and despite all hospitality having shortage of staff there were no uncomfortable delays. The menu changed daily. My selections of hors d’oeuvres, tiny taster fish courses, Dover sole and blueberry Pavlova – all were delicious. There was kedgeree and eggs Benedict for breakfast along with various fresh fruits. A Cornish dressed crab sandwich for one lunch was heavenly. A wonderful dish of flambé king prawn Newburg was prepared beside our table. A Padstow Farm courgette flower with pine nut farci, black garlic puree, Girolle mushrooms and broad bean persillade was so exciting both in design and taste. On one evening I chose an entire lobster Thermidor. It was sublime! I followed this with a tiramisu Pavlova – wonderful. Then came Sunday lunch. We had the roast beef, brought to our table for carving and beautifully cooked. Also roast lamb which, for me was slightly pink. I do prefer a slow-roast lamb. I then indulged in a crêpe Suzette which was prepared in front of me and was simply gorgeous. I rather fear if I ever stayed at the Nare Hotel for a whole week I might grow large with the outstanding cuisine.

We visited on June 3rd, 2018. Booking is a must. The staff, ambiance and food are fantastic. The dining room overlooks the beach and bay giving fabulous views. If you go during the week then a jacket & tie is required for gentlemen but on a Sunday things are much more relaxed. Although not cheap the quality of the experience means it is value for money, expect to pay close to £100 for a couple including drinks and tip. The Quarterdeck bar is the informal option at the hotel where booking is not required.

We had lunch here during the week and the first comment made by the waiter was that there was no Lobster - for a menu that features is so prominently in many of the dishes this was rather a disappointment. One course was returned to the kitchen as it wasn't cooked. I hadn't been here for about 20 Years and it seems that there has been no investment in the place in all that time. Needs refurbishment.

I started with pre-dinner drinks (G&T) and then proceeded to the restaurant for dinner. I was happy to see that they had noted my “non-lactose preference. I ordered half a bottle of Bollinger champagne to accompany my seafood trolly starter (selection of cold fish and salads - truly delicious) and lobster, cooked to order without butter. The meal was exquisite, the staff very attentive and the experience enjoyable. Afterwards I retreated for coffee. I don't often have beef out as it is almost always over cooked for my liking but I was assured they could serve proper rare beef. Joints were carved at the table with a choice of cooking styles. Mine was genuinly rare and very tender likewise my wife's medium. It reminded me of a visit to Simpsons in the Strand 45 years ago. The old fashioned sweet trolley was a delight. We booked in for Sunday lunch on a very wet and blustery day, having heard from friends what a wonderful hotel it was to stay in. The dining room juts out in an extension overlooking the sea but for some inexplicable reason, they arranged our two seats to look inwards. There were hordes of staff buzzing around us at the outset (my wife was asked 3 times by 3 separate people whether she'd like to hang up her jacket!). We both ordered the roast beef but the carver was a trainee and he made a complete hash of carving: great slabs which he picked up with his fingers and dropped onto cold plates. The beef was fatty and tasteless; we were asked twice (once by the maitre d') were we happy and told them just that but neither offered any response. My creme caramel was delicious but my wife's crumble was served cold in places (i.e. Not properly warmed through). All in all a slight disappointment but the staff are very courteous and attentive and the setting is stunning. Just needs a sharper focus on food quality and delivery.

The food in the Dining Room and in The Quarterdeck was delicious and a different menu every night. Good wine and we enjoyed the flambéing of various items on the menu that took place at our table. The flambeyed strawberries were out of this world as was the pork fillet. The sauna and Turkish bath were lovely, the indoor pool a bit shallow but after the sauna it was refreshing though not cold. Cork surround to the pool so no slippery tiles to contend with. The lift was a god send. My suite was lovely with a sea view, its own balcony with lounger and chairs with cushions, very comfortable. The Nare is an old favourite of mine with its old world charm and traditional comfort and service. Sunday lunch there on the 10th of January 2016 in the main dining room was the civilised experience that I expected it to be. The situation of the hotel is just about idillic with wide, uninterrupted views of the coast and beaches. Parking was not a problem and the reception was welcoming and friendly. The dining room is an add-on with elegantly swaged and curtained windows on three sides so that all the tables get a good view of the sea and coastline. The chairs are comfortable, the table linen fresh and the plated cutlery of good design. Great attention is paid to little details such as melba toast and bread and butter on each table.Sunday lunch at the Nare is not ‘fine dining’ by any means but the food is well prepared, traditional, carefully cooked and professionally served and with a good choice on the menu. The wine list is impressive but the house wine is quite drinkable while a glass of Chilean Merlot was really rather good. Roast beef is carved at your table and you can choose it rare, medium or well done. It comes with a baked onion, a Yorkshire pudding and disappointingly mild horseradish sauce that seems to be mostly whipped cream. Vegetables were served separately, cauliflower in a white sauce and a small bundle of green beans, not quite what one might expect at the price. The puddings served from the trolley were adequate but nothing to write home about but the coffee and petit fours were delicious. The decor is very traditional and quite charming, the best part being the excellent reproductions of 20thC artworks in all the public rooms, plus a number of original paintings and prints. Most of the lounge furniture is comfortable and of good design except for the upholstered bench that collapsed under me when I tried to get up. (I didn’t complain at the time because I didn’t wish to embarrass my companion and there was no harm done. I have no doubt that the broken seat was soon discovered.)To sum up, I can recommend The Nare and its Sunday lunch to traditionally minded diners who are looking for luxury rather than fine cuisine and are not too concerned about value for money. The setting alone makes it worthwhile and the service is impeccable.

We were told that we must have got the wrong hotel. we had travel for 45 minutes to get to the hotel. We waited until the time of the meal and family had not arrived. We were told again by the staff that there was not table booked for us, at no time were we offered a table for lunch, and in the end felt obliged to leave. We never met the family, they had been held up on the ferry, had no phone signal. Turned out that it was the right hotel and they had not taken the booking correctly, my sister in law was extremely upset for the rest of the day and would never go back to this hotel again.

The Nare itself is set in a stunning location, it is traditional in its decor, which some will not find appealing, however the standards of staffing and quality of service are excellent.I stayed at the Nare, as I was aware that it is owned by a family that have gained a very good reputation within the industry, and also because now returning as an adult, instead of being a clumsy teenager, I felt better suited to the surroundings, of antiques and quality art work, and taking my Mum was a much more relaxed experience, as she wasn't in fear of breakages, on my part. The quarterdeck is stunning, the food exceptional and the service second to none.I have no doubt that the standards of dress are a little high for some, and I suggest those complaining do dine on the alternative option, of the quarter deck, if you are looking for fine dining my advise, dress as if you are going to a function, then perhaps you will not be disappointed. All in all a relax two day break, with no complaintsThat's what you look for isn't it?

The food here is delicious and the service is like none other. Cannot fault it, and it is good value for what it is. Amazing selection of puddings and cheeses!

A magnificent hotel in a fantastic location. Was lucky enough to visit on a lovely sunny day, wandered around the really pretty gardens, found plenty of seating to admire the view and can't wait to return. Had our lunch sitting outside by the pool, perfect! Not the easiest place to find but so worth making the effort!

A first class dining experience; good food and super service. Unlike the Quarter Deck which is the alternative venue this restaurant was really excellent.

Tasteless, old food, waiters try their best, but terrible kitchen. Fantastic pub in Veryan compared to them as a Michelin Star Restaurant

Dined out for valentines night, we chose somewhere special as we wanted to celebrate. The Nare has stunning views and is set in a beautiful location on the Roseland. The prices and reputation certainly reflect this. We were greeted by a well dressed polite waiter brought nibbles and drinks while we were shown to our table. The menu is generally good as is the food, with the chefs clearly trying to set a standard, although is very pricy for very small portion sizes. The whole place lacks atmosphere and although the staff were good and attentive showed very little charisma not wanting to chat or joke and seeming like they had more important clientele to serve. So generally good but you get the impression it's very set in traditional ways and they don't want to change it, keeping the prices high and dress code very smart in the hope the "average" people won't attended leaving more room for range rovers in the car park. That all said we would like to come back in the summer day time and try the lunch menu sat out on the terrace.

We happened on the Nare quite by chance. On entering we wee met by one of the staff who took our coats and showed us into a delightful waiting area with commanding sea views. Staff were friendly and dressed very well. Food was excellently prepared - we had lunch and the fresh seafood was very well presented.

We once got more or less turned out of The Nare - possibly because it was a bit late in the afternoon, possibly because we were still wearing jodhpurs and wellies... But I do like to give a place a second opportunity in case it wasn't paying attention properly the first time. So I booked the full afternoon tea as a surprise for hubby. For April, Cornwall's weather was surprisingly good, so we sat outside (three dogs also decided this for us...) on what I believe is called the Quarterdeck. Spendid views of the sea (there's nothing else to look at!) and comfortable chairs, very good service - I made things difficult as not only was the afternoon tea a surprise, but some of the visitors coming a bit later were too, hence I didn't want to be seated at a table for two, but didn't want to be obviously led to a 'table for five, madam?'. The staff understood my nudge and wink exercises very well, and the various tiers of surprises were accomplished successfully. The full afternoon tea consists of sandwiches, a selection of cakes and pastries and copious amounts of tea. What set it apart from some other afternoon teas I have had were it's poshness, for want of a better word. I think there were even strawberries and cream, or something like that. It was what I expected for the location and the price, and the relaxed atmosphere was lovely. I detest being rushed, or poked with a metaphorical stick so that the next consumer can be inserted. None of that here. We all had a delightful time by the sea, nibbling dainties and drinking tea elegantly, while the dogs mostly behaved themselves. I recommend afternoon tea at the Nare. If you don't want the full version, a very nice tea can be had with slices of toasted saffron cake here too. The cake was very good, and there was plenty of it. The Nare had it's second chance, and this time it passed with flying colours. Also, if you like antique pond yachts, there is corker in the dining room - apparently the hotel owner has it professionally dusted every year!

Had a nice Sunday lunch here. The food was well prepared and attentive service. Its very traditional as they come round with a carving station for you to choose your cut of beef. They serve rib eye beef so it can be a bit fatty but obviously does have more favour. The traditional approach also extends to the use of a dessert trolley which is very 70's! Overall the dining room is looking quite dated and really could use some refreshing and modernising whilst keeping in theme with the traditional country house feeling of the hotel. The views are fantastic and we had a lovely walk on the beach afterwards. Overall we enjoyed it but felt it was over priced compared to other comparable establishments.

We recently spent a few days on the Roseland Peninsula and decided to have lunch at The Nare Quarterdeck Restaurant. Being half term there were several families there including one large group celebrating a Granny 80 th birthday. We had mackerel and oysters to start followed by Moules and Butternet Risotto. All very well cooked and accompanied by some great Riesling.Excellent friendly service and reasonable value given the setting.

We were taken here as guests. What a real treat for Sunday lunch (£32 per head). Brilliant silver service, great menu - have the selection of hors d'oeuvres as a starter - beautiful roast beef carved at your table. Fantastic wine list, especially if you have money to burn. We will definitely be visiting again, may even stay for a special occasion.

Our friends took us here for our last dinner in Cornwall. Pricey and upmarket but really worth it for the experience. Standing on the terrace by the beach, enjoying our pre-dinner drinks while watching the sunset, the scenery was just magical. Service was efficient and had an air of class (we ate at the Quarterdeck, a quarter less posh than the main restaurant with personal wait staff etc...). I lucked out on all my dishes, they were all delicious and beautifully presented. Grilled scallops for starters (all 3 of them, at 12 pounds!) was divine! Most mains ranged from 24 pounds to 35 pounds (though grilled lobster is an eyewatering 50 pounds). I had grilled duck breast and wow, what a delight that was! Never tasted duck that good in my life, the meat was soft and moist and the skin crispy and so tasty. Having said that, my friends had the turbot and found that disappointing, the vegies were tough and the fish too salty (they came in small fillets, at 24pounds, you'd expect a whole one at that price!). The serving portions were on the small side so we had room for dessert and boy, we were glad for it - our desserts were scrumptious! My husband described his as Variations on a Theme of Lemon Meringue (he never waxes lyrical over food like that so this says a lot). Nicely presented and with interesting tastes, the desserts can all be described as 'fancy'. And at 9.50 each, so they should be!All in all, we really enjoyed dining here. The staff were lovely, the view was excellent. This was a once-in-a-holiday treat, I'm sure one could not really afford nor sustain dining this way all the time. But boy, this was worth it!

Traditional Roast with all the trimmings excellent could not fault and at £32 it's only £5 more than our local carvery which is terrible.

Sat outside, ate lobster, drank champagne and gazed at the spectacular view. Probably one of the best lunches we've had, given all the components! I know the rooms are very expensive so we got to enjoy the location for the price of lunch.

Attentive staff, fantastic location with a spectacular view and great local food makes this restaurant a good choice for lunch. Surprisingly, considering the price of the rooms, there is an excellent range of reasonably priced meals, especially at lunchtime; but beware drinks are expensive.

Hubby and I were doing the coastal path walk to the Nare Head. After two and half hours we decided that we would turn around and pick the car up and drive to the hotel! The coastal path walks are absolutely wonderful and very well maintained with good signs but it is a long circular walk - around 4 hours I believe. Once we had returned to our car and driven to the Hotel we had a very nice drink and a sandwich in a very comfortable lounge area which is surrounded by artwork and there is a lovely view out to sea. There was a swimming pool but it did look a little too chilly for my liking in February!

The service was excellent, the food was excellent, the location, views and atmosphere are all excellent.Took my mum here for a light birthday lunch but didn't have long before picking up the children from school otherwise we would have eaten more!I have read a previous review about the clientele of the Nare not necessarily being Trip Advisor reviewers and agree this may contribute to the lower rating. The Nare definitely deserves a visit either to the restaurant or hotel followed by a lovely walk on the beach.
