Macaubas is one of the more refined restaurants in minehead, with happy friendly staff only to eger to serve you, with a more than over the top menu in food and drinks open five days a week. Just renewed lease for the next three years, and sadly it will probably be the end of the road after that. (A sad loss to Minehead. )

My wife and I came during the day while visiting Castle Comb and had a fantastic experience. The staff when out of their way to be friendly and engaging. We were struggling to get a taxi and the wonderful woman at reception called about 10 numbers to find us one. It was such a positive experience and I hope to come back one day.

So, having a Michelin star gives a restaurant an obvious credence, so when I wanted to take a special someone somewhere special, this was the obvious choice. We booked about 2 months in advance using OpenTable which was effortless and waited for the big day. We hyped it up so much in our heads so when the day finally arrived, we were positively buzzing. Neither of us had been before and so were very much looking forward to it. From the second we walked in the door, the experience was like everything we had hyped in our heads and so much more. The service was exemplary, the location and setting were beautiful but didn't feel formal or stuffy in anyway, it was all very relaxed. We were given the most beautiful sourdough bread and butters to start which just kicked off the next 2 hours of the most incredible food I have ever eaten. Every single mouthful was the best food I have ever eaten. Every mouthful was savoured and enjoyed before taking the next. The staff were attentive but never intrusive and every single one was friendly and knowledgeable. To say I would recommend The Elephant would be the literal understatement of the year. If you get the chance, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Is it more expensive on the face of it than other places in the bay? Yes it is BUT you cannot compare them. For what may possibly the best meal you ever experience, it is a small price to pay.

The staff were cheerful and friendly, and we enjoyed soft scones with clotted cream and jam. The hot chocolate for the kids was delicious too. The brownie could have been a bit less sweet, but the cheesecake was lovely. It's a good place to stop after seeing Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. (8 minutes by car) There is a paid parking lot (£1.90 for 2 hours) opposite the cafe, but coins are the only option, so if you want to pay by card, grab the cafe's wifi (no password) and use Ringgo. You can pay through the app. It's a soft, crumbly style scone, and it's large so you can eat one per person. Only the cream tea set (tea + scone + jam/cream) is listed on the menu, but you can also order the scone alone (jam/cream costs extra). It doesn't taste amazing, but the staff is friendly and it's easy to enjoy.

Not our first visit to the King's Arms, certainly won't be our last. Sunday Roast is delicious. One vegetarian, one chicken. Both SoOoo good. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. There was a very large party of diners getting ready to leave as we arrived. We were seated promptly and given our menus. Once the revellers had vacated the staff cleared/cleaned/re-laid in a speedy and efficient manner. Putting everything to rights for the next sitting of diners. And in they came. We were all served quickly with true efficiency.
