Mount Pleasant Inn in Mid Devon

What's not to like about this place? Great ambience, service, food and value made our lunch a pleasure. Easy parking too. Glad to see it well-patronised esp on a dank January weekday. Certainly one for a return visit.

We ate here on a miserable Tuesday night with our daughter. The fire was burning, the staff were friendly and professional, the food was delicious and a wonderful time was had by all. Heartily recommend the steak and ale pie!

Wonderful meal. I had home made steak pie, as good as my gran used to make, my wife had the chicken special with Bacon. She thoroughly enjoyed it. The lady who took our order was most obliging. We are both in poor health but nothing was too much trouble. When we went to leave our car wouldn't start. We had no mobile reception. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Eventually got the car started and got a hug from the lady boss. (Bonus) Will not hesitate to return. Thank you all so much.

My partner and I stayed at the Cow Shack in Tiverton and was advised to try the local pub for a meal. We were so glad we did.. fabulous food and portion sizes at a reasonable price. Very friendly staff and such a lovely local pub. I would certainly recommend this to others! Thank you!

This is a great atmospheric pub with very pleasant engaging staff. Most importantly the food was excellent, with a great range and suitable for those with gluten and dairy allergies. The staff were very happy to adapt the food if required. Also... a great pub friendly venue. We are her a number of times both for lunch and dinner and the food and staff were brilliant each time. A great find on our holidays. 😁👍

We did book for food, as we were driving to Devon to take Dad out for dinner, crossed wires he had just eaten so we decided to go to take him for a beer anyway. We were not made to feel uncomfortable despite the food booking which was nice. Dad enjoyed the sofa next to the amazing fire! and the pint of Otter. Thanks for not making us feel awkward :)

Always excellent! Really friendly, nothing is too much trouble, food/service is second to none. All freshly homemade. Mount Pleasant is the only pub that we go to locally, would recommend to anyone. You won't be dissapointed ☺

During a visit to Tiverton my friend and I decided to reserve a table for dinner. Having viewed the comments on trip advisor, although the pub is not in Tiverton rather in the countryside within a small village with the unusual name of Nomandsland Crossroads. We arrived for early dinner (18:00) and was met with a friendly and welcoming reception. Having already viewed the menu, I decided to order the Liver & Bacon with vegetables. It is not a dish to be found on a regular basis. The meal was cooked to perfection. The liver, onion and bacon reminded me of my grandmother's cooking - a most pleasant culinary memory. The menu is varied with a dish that would suit most tastes. The restaurant consists of a regular pub style area, we however chose the small room with the bay windows looking out towards the front of the property. The atmosphere was most relaxing with courteous service and enticing options for dinning. Although not on the 'beaten track' I, together with my friend would highly recommend a visit. We went to the Mount Pleasant on an exremely wet and stormy Tuesday evening. We are not blessed with places to eat in North Devon early on in the week, so we were fortunate this Inn was open and had good previous reviews. Their forge room was open and there were 3 other tables occupied. The menu is quite varied and two of us had liver and bacon, the MP burger and creamy fish pie. All food was cooked to our liking and enjoyed, especially the fish pie, portion sizes are good. After the meal were invited into the bar area to enjoy drinks, sat by a warm wood burner in lounge chairs. Good food and service.

The food is really tasty, excellent choices on the menu. We ate with friends, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We cleared our plates. We would have eaten there again, but they are closed on a Monday evening and we returned home on Tuesday morning, Highly recommend if staying in the area.

Walked in at4pm on a Thursday asked about food - really welcoming, offered choice of a couple of tables. Food choice was excellent and then the meals arrived- excellent portions but how tasty !!! Good proper food, excellent value

Staying at nearby HORSEFORD Lodge-wonderful B&B, this Inn was recommended by Carol Rogers I had gluten-free FISH PIE, and my wife had Scampi and chips. Pie was very tasty, and Wendy got 15 pieces-yes fifteen pieces of scampi. Delicious meal, lovely clean setting, and Landlady the most pleasant of people. Highly recommended.

The country needs to keep these kind of pubs open in times of recession. Great food in a remote location. Amazing room to eat in. Really recommend eating here. Portion sizes are large and you’ll enjoy every mouthful.

Food was very average. Effort made with the presentation of the dishes but lacked flavour for us. Friendly staff. Chicken wings were better than other dishes.

We visited here today for lunch, I’m glad we got in early as it was very busy, which was lovely to see and a great sign. The menu is extensive which can make me suspicious that the food will be chill cooked. It was clear when it came that it was home made (possibly cooked in batches and frozen), it was tasty, fresh and plentiful. The service was friendly and efficient. My wife and I were working in the area as key workers. We drove past the pub which looked lovely from the outside albeit closed but posters offering take away service. My wife rang the bell outside the premises and the lady appeared and was so utterly rude and obnoxious, treated her as if she didn’t belong there. I was looking for somewhere to meet up with relatives that was half way between us both. Tiverton fitted the bill and when I looked at the Mount Pleasant website I immediately felt this could be the place. Covid precautions seemed to be taken very seriously and food reviews were great. Following the website request I emailed for a booking and pre ordered our food choices. All was confirmed within a few hours. We turned up in torrential rain with 3 dogs in tow and were thoughtfully seated well away from other diners with plenty of room for our group of 4. Our lunch was excellent, well cooked and presented, service friendly and efficient. All in all the best way to spend a few hours during a rain storm.

My Wife and I plus two friends had an excellent meal here and our friends not from this area were well impressed and no doubt will return with their friends, despite the latest restrictions the atmosphere was great and the fire lit, tables well spaced out and full table service only, we had pre ordered our meals and these were served along with drinks of our choice, the waitresses wore the required ppe as did all staff, the food was hot and flavours were excellent, so well done to all who made our birthday and wedding anniversary one to remember

Fantastic pub. We were here a couple of weeks ago and it was so good we decided to return. Yet again another lovely meal. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We felt totally safe.

we booked for 6 people a sunday lunch, the service and food was lovely. So much veg and they catered for Gluten free which was fabulous.

The pub is friendly and it would be a pleasure to dine in. However, the food was awful. Overcooked blanchbait, Tex Mex looked and tasted like that from a cheap enchilada kit you can buy in the supermarket, cooked vegetables were rubbery with zero flavour. When a menu states home cooked, you expect it to be good but this really wasn’t. I’ve never not tipped before but I made an exception on this occasion as the bill just wasn’t reflecting our experience at all.

We came off the motorway on our way down to Cornwall for a leisurely lunch, and we were very pleased to we have chosen the Mount Pleasant inn on the back of strong Tripadvisor reviews. We were warmly welcomed with all of the social distancing and Coronavirus precautions respected. Food was really delicious. Special mention to the cream chicken with mushrooms and bacon, accompanied by fries and salad. The prices were reasonable, and service friendly and prompt.

Our family enjoyed a fantastic dinner this evening at the Mount Pleasant pub. Every precaution appears to have been taken and we felt very safe enjoying the excellent service and varied menu.We sat inside but additional seating was available outside if required. The doors to the pub were open throughout offering fresh air and the the staff were seen disinfecting through out our stay.Excellent food, service, attitude and safety.... and always a warm welcome

Excellent food and service in the lovely surroundings of the small rear garden. The staff were super friendly and very attentive of all the necessary measures to take in order to be COVID-19 safe. We had a lovely time and would go back were it closer to our accommodation. Go if you have the chance!

Really good, top notch food in a cosy historic building. It has a real fire on cool evenings and a very pretty garden. We always take visitors out here for an evening meal. The menu uses lots of locally sourced ingredients and the quality is great. It's friendly and cosy, not a stuck up gastro pub, and the portions are very generous. Highly recommended!

We have lived in Nomansland for over 20 years, having moved from Farnham in Surrey. I have spent an amount of money equivalent to the national debt of a small African nation. Why - because it is really really good!The atmosphere is appealing and welcoming. The food is excellent, home cooked, good honest grub. The ales and beers are superb - really well kept and frequently rotated so you never get bored.But best of all, the staff are superb. From Anne and Charles to Sarah, Karen and all the staff, nothing is too much for them.When I die, I just hope that heaven will look like the Mount Pleasant!!

As a couple we went for a evening meal. Plenty to eat and lots to choose from., delicious. I had chicken in a garlic cream sauce my partner had a lasagna with garlic bread. Then a pud . This pub is a very nice place with an open fire, little cosy corners no fruit machines or tellys so you can have a proper conversation and enjoy the excellent meal. We will be returning to try out more of the menu.

We came here with nearly 30 of us for a birthday lunch for our 40ths. I chose it because they provided a free private room as well as a set menu (making my life much easier as the organiser) and no deposits!It exceeded my expectations with amazing food and service - they even decorated the room for us!Highly recommend! We regularly go to this pub, almost local, as you always get a warm welcome, a great range of drinks and a very varied menu. The food has never been anything other than well presented and delicious, the portion sizes are generous too. Highly recommend it.

The 'Mount Pleasant' is a very popular local pub-restaurant, serving several different beers and providing good quality food. It's located on a main road and is difficult to miss.

We were made welcome with our dog and went two nights running. Good choices for vegetarians and the veggie burgers were the best! I was to full to have a pudding but my husband had lemon bread and butter pudding which he said was lovely.

Travelled to see family at a nearby caravan site, upon arrival we were told the restaurant was shut for lunch. A family staying there recommend this pub. It was very good! they catered for 6 adults, 2 kids and a dog! The young lady who served us was helpful and polite and food was a good price and plenty of it! Would recommend!

After my last visit 5 years ago , I returned to this olde world inn for an early evening meal , things had not changed much ( apart from the back room which I was in last time I visited , which has now been blocked off ) the food was absolutely wonderful , really good portions ,well presented , well cooked ,and the waitresses were genuinely very pleasant , overall a very nice meal experience , and well worth a visit if in this area. Maybe I won't leave it another 5 years before I return .

Not hugely impressed with the food which was pretty average and the menu seemed outdated. Salads lacked imagination and side salads had kiwi in them which was quite random. The lady who served us seemed very grumpy which we all noticed and left us wondering if we had done something to upset her somehow.

Following a pleasant walk beside the Grand Western Canal we had a most enjoyable and excellent lunch and well kept beer. This is a very well run, clean and thoughtfully run Pub and well deserves it's number one rating for Tiverton.

Visited for a family meal. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Catered for a group of 9 of us, all meals turned up together and were perfectly cooked. Lovely dog friendly pub.

We were travelling at Sunday lunchtime and it’s never easy to get food without booking. We’d already tried a place without luck and then came here. The place was packed with locals but they found us a spare table. We were served lovely roast beef very quickly. Great meat, hot plates. Charlotte served us brilliantly, really efficient and friendly. This is a real historic place and long may it continue.

We booked for 9 of us the day before our visit. The staff welcomed us all including the dog and were happy to make a smaller meal for an unwell family member. All the food was piping hot and absolutely delicious, a small downside was that they had run out of Rib Eye so a few of us had to choose again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

We celebrated my husband's birthday here and are now frantically trying to think up other excuses for a further visit! We, and our dog, were made extremely welcome and placed at a lovely table in the window. The food was really, really good and I was offered a half-portion of the Tex Mex because I know I wouldn't finish a whole one. I managed every mouthful and also most of a delicious ice-cream as well.

Three generations of our family visited for an afternoon meal and we weren't disappointed. There are plenty of vegan options and the staff 'get' dietary preferences/allergies. We loved everything about the pub and the service was spot on. We ordered a large range of dishes and all arrived at the appropriate time and piping hot.

Visited tonight for an early evening meal with my 89yr old Mum. A picky eater and with poor mobility, she was able to access the building and did justice to a lovely steak and ale pie. My salmon in pesto sauce on asparagus was lovely. The meals were generous and beautifully presented with separate veg and chips. Facilities are on one level (small wooden raised doorframe on floor level to enter the building at the front) and there is plenty of seating for eating. I believe it is wheelchair accessible from the rear entrance which really IS low level! Lovely friendly staff. We are part of a group of six on holiday here and we intend to return - the rest of our party cannot wait to try the vegan menu. On our next visit we hope it will be more leisurely ( we were in a rush tonight ) and some of us will be able to have a wine or several. It is a really beautiful old pub, worth a visit. Many thanks.

Staying a few miles away we wanted somewhere to eat on a Sunday night. TA came up trumps with this pub. We found it by accident on a drive out so I went in to check it and book.

We were group of 3 families travelling back home to South Devon after a weekend Away and wanted somewhere to eat on the way through. We turned up unannounced on bank holiday Monday after searching online for somehwere appropriate. We were promptly seated in a back room perfectly big enough for all 13 of us. There were games and colouring for the children which were very much enjoyed. The menu was varied and definitely something for everyone. The lady taking our order was extremely friendly and promptly took our vast order of drinks and food. Food arrived without delay and everybody agreed that it was all delicious! The gardens looked beautiful and the atmosphere was perfect. Very happy we stumbled across this place, we definitely plan on making a return trip, even though it's a 2 hour round trip!

Went there one Saturday afternoon and had a nice time with my mates barmaid was very nice I think she was called Ali she was far nicer than the last one who called me and my friends homophobic because one of us said the word gay which made us go early but apart from that it’s an alright pub

It's not often that you find a throwback pub, this is how pubs used to be, good food, busy with locals and passers by, friendly knowledgeable staff. If your in tiverton make the effort to travel out to this little gem, we both ate short wait for what was the best meal of our weekend away in Devon

Visited as a party of 10 for lunch and had an amazing experience. Lots of choice and decent portions. Many vegetarian options. Very friendly staff. Amazing desserts. Beautiful garden that the children loved.

We went on a Saturday night for a rare child free date night. We were perhaps a tad over dressed as this is a super casual country pub. The food was fantastic. We both had 3 courses despite being full after the main. The portion sizes are very generous and both starters and main were served with large salads. All the food was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Think the meals were about £12 each and not bad value. This pub is not in Tiverton but in the village of Nomansland right out in the real countryside. It has an informal friendly feel, mix of old furniture, open fire and dogs welcome except in the main dining room which is apparently the old forge. Pity about the background music but you can’t have everything.

We visit regularly when coming to see family; we have attended wakes and parties here as well as popping in for a quick pint or a sandwich. Cannot fault this place at all.

We fell upon this pub for lunch en-route for a weekend from Bristol to Barnstable after a bad welcome at another planned pub. Sat in garden with the dogs. The beer was excelent and the food was very enjoyable. Can't fault the hospitality. The cats were like Ninjas sunning them selves, our dogs never spotted them lol. Would love to return in the future.

Lovely country pub with bags of character. I went here for a meal with friends and the food was of very good quality. A warm welcome and friendly staff , good food and good beer what more could you want? I will definitely return when in the area.

An impromptu stop was absolutely worth it. Great service, lovely food in a stunning place. We had a mixed group, 2 children and 5 adults, this place catered for all tastes and had good vegan options available. Eating Sunday lunch, Sat in front of a roaring fire amongst lovely locals !

First visit to one of our local hostelries. Booked and mentioned that one of the party had a birthday. When we arrived we were welcomed most warmly by the bar staff and our table had birthday decorations, which was a lovely touch. We ordered our food. The steak and ale pie looked wonderful, as did the chicken pie. I ordered chicken surprise and there was no problem changing the fries to new potatoes. The lamb chops were also very good with mash. All came with fresh veg, cooked beautifully. All of us really enjoyed our meals.The wait, for freshly cooked food, was not noticed and should be expected. The service was very friendly, not rushed but professional. None of us wanted starters or puddings but the jug of coffee to finish was perfect. My only criticism was that the starters and puddings were a tad expensive, but, unfortunately this seems to be the case now. We will really recommend the Mt Pleasant Inn to our friends and colleagues. We will be back!

Venturing out on a bitter January night, We had to celebrate a birthday. Staggering in out of the cold we met a warm welcome. Smiling host, roaring log fire. A glass of excellent "Yellow Hammer" bitter appeared in my hand as we took out table. The menu was super, a diverse range of dishes to choose from for both starters and mains. My chicken benedictine in a smooth creamy sauce - and I could actually taste not only the chicken but also, the sliced mushrooms and each of the lightly cooked veg. Portion size was generous, service attentive, atmosphere friendly.. Owned and run by Anne and her family since 1986 and still thriving. We go regularly.

We came here for lunch today on a Saturday as we were in the area. The reviews were good so quietly confident it would be a good lunch. We were not sure when we would arrive and so knowing they serve food all day - unlike many pubs that finish at 2pm, we came to the Mount Pleasant Inn. The staff were more than pleasant - very friendly as it happened. The choice of food options was really good, not just in terms of number, but also variety. So plenty of choice and I had a shortlist of 3 or 4 from many others that I would also have selected on another occasion. The food arrived freshly prepared. The size of the portions was excellent, the vegetables fresh and my chicken was cooked just right. The four of us all had something different and we all felt it was excellent. There was a good desert menu, but that will have to wait until next time as I couldn't eat another thing. Good choice of beers. Finally I thought it was excellent value and the pub had a really good atmosphere, with great open fire. One to remember for another visit.

I've been here 2 or 3 times and have no complaints though it's nothing special. The beer is good and the food also, but there's nothing to make the Mount Pleasant stand out from the crowd of pub eateries. The pub is easy to find as it's on a main, though quiet, road, and service is friendly. I may well visit again and will expect to enjoy it, but I don't expect to be 'wowed',

Came here for lunch due to multiple recommendations and outstanding reviews and we were not disappointed!

Have lived in Tiverton for 3 years and have struggled to find somewhere local good value and child freindly (and dogs too) it was suggested by a work colleague at the pub where We both work to try this venue out , so glad I did there were five in our family party booked over the phone and had a table reserved for us , freindly greeting and nice table to start excellent menu choices but what made this stand out was the gluten free option with its own menu!! So the wife was very happy We had starters mains and desserts all of which were nicely presented tasty and hot , good size portions and very reasonably priced , real ales ciders and lagers on tap (most local) and a good selection of wines & spirits etc log fires and cosy spots to sit at.

Had Sunday lunch for 20 people for Grandparents 25th anniversary, room decorated lovely, attentive service on tables and bar, food was fantastic and good value for money. I was told that they made the couples day very special and they would highly recommend.

I looked on trip adviser for somewhere to go for my cousins anniversary and came across the mount pleasant the reviews were all good and as my cousins are vegetarian there seemed to be a good choice for them and us I had no idea where it was but found it with the help of the sat nav. I was so glad I chose this place everything was excellent such a good choice of food all cooked to perfection the staff were very friendly as were the locals, we all enjoyed our choices just wish I lived nearer but will be returning next time we are in the area.

The food was excellent, restaurant food at pub prices. Hang on to the chef, the food exceeded our expectations. The slightly dated pub decor gives no clues to how good the food is. Definitely recommend you go and try the food yourself, you will not be disappointed.
