It's great and probably the best place to eat in Cullompton. Friendly helpful staff, efficient service. Food is of a very good quality. Good range of drinks. Recommended, just go here, Yiu won't be disappointed.

This is a lovely little eatery which I see is open too in the evening for cocktails etc. I ordered pan fried mushrooms in a creamy pepper sauce in toast. A nice dish but arguably should be done with sourdough to resist sogginess, really. But that is a minor point. The 2nd visit this morning was even nicer. Really sweet music playing and a super chilled vibe. I could easily have stayed all day. This place is a gem.

I loved the atmosphere and the employees were very kind to us. My sister and I ordered the seafood platter without anchovies, and my mother, my sister, and I all had frappes. The frappes aren't like the ones I've had before, they have a more defined coffee taste that most don't have. I forgot what my mother had. It was a sandwich that contained salmon and something else. The food that we ordered was also very high quality. I personally loved the mackerel and prawns Edit: my sister also made a review that's why 2 reviews have the same photo

Made a pit stop on our way to our holiday and stumbled across this lovely little place. Lucky I popped in and asked if they had a table as there is a lot more seating to the back in a bright and airy space with a lovely fireplace and bookshelf which kept my little one entertained. Dog friendly which is always a bonus and I cannot fault the breakfast, it was delicious.

We decided to book Christmas Eve breakfast here after some friends visited and enjoyed it. Food was excellent - my daughter hummed down her bacon sandwich, and the eggs benedict were highly rated by my wife and mother. My only feedback would be is that coffee is too milky, but that really is nitpicking because I like strong flat whites. It’s an excellent place for breakfast - we will be returning often now!

I was excited to sit in and have breakfast with my mum. I was told by the lady at till to sit and she will come to take our order. It’s been good 5-10 mins but she didn’t come. Then I went myself to order. Then I saw an elderly couple sitting in and they had used utensils on the table and were told to sit there. I saw elderly couple looking for someone to come and clean but nobody came to clear it up. Unfortunately, the elderly man, had to pick up the dirty dishes and handed to the till lady. I understand it was little bit busy morning but still.

On a long drive from the Midlands to the south-west, I wanted somewhere nice to stop for lunch. Did some research and found this place. Got a parking spot in the High Street a few minutes' walk away - and this was on a Saturday - free for an hour which was plenty of time. I was warmly welcomed and offered a table for four even though I was on my own. Several good gluten-free options - I chose fried halloumi, chunky chips, and coleslaw, plus a Luscombe hot ginger beer to drink (the ginger is hot, not the drink itself - was delicious). The fried halloumi was excellent, a generous portion and beautifully cooked with a big handful of young rocket leaves in a tasty dressing on the side. The chunky chips were perfect. The coleslaw was very good but drenched in mayo - too much for my taste, so I couldn't eat more than half of it, but I wasn't left hungry. Garlic mayo was also served with the halloumi, but when I asked for some ketchup that was no problem. The coleslaw and chips were each served in a small enamel pie dish, and the halloumi came on a board; I would have preferred it all on one plate (I guess I could have asked for a plate, but didn't think of it). So a couple of tiny things which were not to my taste, but everyone has different tastes and honestly that's barely enough to deduct one point of a star let alone a whole star. The atmosphere in the cafe was very convivial, and the service was friendly and professional. I would gladly stop here again - I hope I get the chance to do so.

I have eaten here several times and it has been okay but I have to say that a couple of days ago my friend and I had the same choice on the specials menu and it was dreadful. Three skewers of halloumi, tomatoes and aubergine on two pieces of ciabatta, covered with rocket. The aubergine was practically raw and inedible, and the bread had nothing on it, no olive oil or tomato pesto. There was little of it and hugely expensive at more than £13, with no price upon the board. I thought it was disgraceful and they are taking advantage of having always been popular.

The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the lovely atmosphere of the café. We felt very welcome. It was exceptional service by the entire team - thank you. We didn't try the cakes but there was so many delicious-looking choices. Everything sounded wonderful, and sure enough the open sandwich proved to be every bit as tasty as it sounded. Quality ingredients (good bread makes such a difference to a sandwich) put together by people who clearly know what they're doing. Country portions too - you won't go hungry. We stopped in Cullompton on our way elsewhere so that we could have a leg stretch after a long journey. After a walk around the town we saw The Bakehouse and being dog friendly decided to pop in. Friendly service and great atmosphere we decided to have something to eat as well as a drink. An americano and a luxury hot chocolate, with the hot chocolate actually being hot unlike so many places where it is lukewarm and you end up finishing it two minutes later. This was creamy and a good helping of marshmallows! We then ordered a bakehouse toastie consisting of cheddar and mozzarella with hogs bottom tomato and red onion chutney. It was like a meal in itself and a very impressive and fresh side salad. We also ordered the crispy fried halloumi wrap with rocket, peppers, red onion and chilli sauce. Again, a large serving with great side salad. Both meals freshly made and piping hot, so chance for them to cool down a bit and enjoy the surroundings of the premises. A great place and one we will be sure to visit again next time we pass through. Oh whilst I am a Costa coffee fan, which is just on the opposite side of the road, I implore people to support The Bakehouse team where you get freshly prepared on-site food and drink at prices more competitive than you will get in any major chain coffee house.

Mentioned this to a member of staff who took it away. This was replaced with either the same sandwich or a new sandwich that was cooked and was hot to touch. Don't know how they cook there toasties but it appeared as though all the ingredients had been put into two slices of bread and toasted all together. Not the best and won't be returning.

Fish platter was excellent but falafel was dry and overcooked. They brought 2 more which were better but still not up to expectations. Felt the falafel, humus and olive platter was way less plentiful than the fish. We like the Bakehouse so were disappointed it was not up to normal standard.

Stayed here for New Years Eve 2024. We chose the pub / hotel for its remote location and lack of fireworks (we have dogs and one is traumatised by loud noises) - from the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. A quintessential English pub with wonderful, nicely designed and spacious rooms and very comfy beds (we had Beech and Birch). The owners and locals were very friendly and inclusive, taking care to make us feel welcome. We felt very well looked after. Breakfast was delicious (full English) and served with locally made tea and coffee (Miles, made in Porlock) and unlimited juice. We are happy that this place is only 50 mins from where we live because we will definitely be back for lunch and will find an excuse to stay again soon, I’m sure… highly recommend. Thanks to everyone there for a great stay! Sam and Nick Clarke
