In my 53 years on planet Earth and after extensive pub research this is honestly the best pub I've been in! Probably due to incredible attention to detail by the landlord, who I could see really cares about the experience of his customers, the pubs own beer (a must try it's lush!) is even brewed to his own recipe! The pub has great character and olde worlde charm but is freshly decorated and immaculately clean throughout. Lovely range of local beers and Ciders (I tried most of them and can confirm the landlords own was my favourite!) also the food was amazing we all enjoyed a very nice evening meal. All this is achieved while still being affordable as the prices were reasonable and good value for money, which accounts for the pub being busy when many others are struggling. Our family hound was made welcome too and he along with other canine guests seemed happy to be there and all were well behaved. We will be back next time we are in north Devon and if he reads this my thanks to Mike and his lovely team, our evening there was one of the highlights of our holiday!!

We’ve driven past the Bull & Dragon a few times but never ventured in but it was my wife’s 70th so thought we’d give it a try. We were not disappointed. We had a warm welcome from the landlord and the young lady that served our table. We both had a lovely meal. I’ll not dock a star BUT I hate eating with dogs around. The table next to us was empty when we came in but was soon populated with 4 people and 3 smelly dogs. It did mar our visit a tad but we will be back.

Just what we needed at the turnaround on cycle up from Torrington. Definitely worth the short climb up the hill. Friendly village pub with good food, beer and even a large choice of ciders. Shame we had to cycle back so couldn't try those.

We cycled here down the Tarka Trail from Smytham Manor. A lovely 9 mile ride. Sought it out as it was listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Absolutely fabulous! 3 real ales including the owners own special brew ‘ The Bull’ and about 20 ciders. Great crack with the locals and Mike the owner guided us through some of the ciders on offer. Deservedly awarded CAMRA North Devon cider pub of the year last year and we learn they have also received the accolade again this year! The cycle ride back in the pouring rain was a little wobbly. Well recommended if you like a proper English Pub. Did not try the food this time but hope to return one day. Only wish it were next door!

A delightful pub, all staff friendly & welcoming. Food delicious with generous portions, menu great choices. Lovely to find a pub open everyday serving food. Pub was clean, tidy and well presented.

Absolutely excellent place. So friendly and welcoming. Landlord and bar staff chatty which is unusual in many pubs today. The locals also made us feel very welcome . This is a lovely pub with a very friendly landlord who takes the time to talk to you. The food is very good and the menu is varied with specials everyday. We wish this pub was in Umberleigh near us, then we could visit more frequently.

Went in on the off chance late on St. Valentines day lunchtime (also the landlords birthday) and obviously it was very busy, but even so the landlord was happy to do us food. We thought we'd be helpful and just have cider and crisps...seems to be a theme of my reviews. I could merrily have stayed to try all the ciders on offer but I doubt I'd be able to write this because they have loads. "Loads of cider" is not an exaggeration. Excellent pub and I must arrange for MLW to drive me there again for more cider and crisps...superb

2 steak n ale pies n a Bull burger. We all left the pub with a smile n full bellies. Great selection of food on the menu and specials. The only qualm I can think of was the accompanying veg to the pie. Over boiled n quite tasteless. But still an epic meal. Lovely staff. Great pub.

What a find. We came across The Bull and Dragon randomly but were taken aback by the warmth, friendliness and welcome from both the landlord, Mike, and also the other guests (both locals and others). A random, cold, January afternoon, but we felt right at home. We get used to being eyed suspiciously sometimes by locals in country pubs in the region, but this place had the formula spot on.

Went out to celebrate 2 birthdays and our Sunday roast lunch was excellent. Lovely tender/roast pork for me and 1 other, think the 2 others had chicken, all excellent. The plates were hot, and the meal too. Slightly disappointed with the real ale selection, 1 stout, 1 winter ale, and a bitter. Would like to have had a pale ale, or an IPA. Lovely open fire, and excellent staff, would definitely go there again when visiting our friends in Okehampton. 👍🛒Nee years eve lunch

Wot to say about B&D absolutely brilliant fantastic pub moved to Devon 9years ago wished we found it then pub proper pub like the old days Mick and his wife and all the staff r brilliant food excellent ale perfect specially the Bull Mick's own brew to all involved in 🥧 pie night brilliant and the joeanerman wos great thanks for a great evening and Season greeting to all as usual Mick will be back.

Whilst on holiday we were recommended to try this pub for a meal. We had an incredibly warm welcome in this lovely local pub, the staff were super friendly and also welcomed our tired dog. The food was beautiful, a local lamb burger and a home made pie, both were stunning. Followed by the nicest, creamiest ice cream I've ever had! Highly recommended :-)

Great little pub. We had a lovely family meal in the bull and dragon. Good selection of pub food. No childrens menu but we just asked for childrens portions which they happily assisited with. Staff were really friendly on the phone (when booking) and in person . Really nice welcome and nice local lager on tap. Really good experience! Would definitely return!

Have visited many times this year so far and the welcome is always friendly. Mike, Becky and the staff are amazing. Food is always excellent and plentiful. Good choice and specials are to be recommended. Our dog is always made very welcome and she really looks forward to her sausage treat. We would recommend a visit whenever in the area, the best pub around for a good meal. Will be visiting many more times this year.

Excellent food but most of all excellent service - very friendly and VERY helpful. Got there with a friend after walking 12 miles on the Tarka trail and the bus was cancelled due to road closures. Lovely landlord organised a helpful local to take us back to our car - so very much appreciated

WOW what an amazing meal we all had - 4 different meals and no one had a bad thing to say about theirs !! The meat was amazing and very well cooked and the puddings were delicious

You will have to go very far to experience a better Sunday lunch and at a better price in a very reloads friendly atmosphere

After coming off the Tarka Trail at Meeth after cycling 70 miles, I decided to pop in here for a pint. A friendly greeting from the Landlord as I ordered a drink. He let me charge up the bike battery to make it easier for the rest of the journey. Despite being very busy with orders, he fitted me in, so I had a Burger & Chips. Friendly Service from the hard working Becky as well. That energy boost and meal made sure I made it back to Sourton Cross easily. Would definitely visit here again if I'm passing by.

I cannot rate this pub high enough Mike was so friendly and his wife Beccy did the best food we have had for a long time.

What an excellent pub. Food was superb and the beer well kept. Landlord very friendly. Couple of pints of the Bull beer brewed by Clearwater Brewery (4.1%) went down well.

I bought my friends some vouchers to use at the Bull & Dragon for when they had a their holiday at Anglers Paradise. They enjoyed 2 visits and couldn't fault anything, Mike the landlord made the experience an absolute joy and then topped it off with outstanding food on both occasions. Highly recommended.

After having passed this pub numerous times over the years and saying that we should pop in, we did today for the very first time and it certainly won't be the last either. Lovely warm and friendly welcome from the landlord, great service from his team and an amazing roast dinner which was just like home made and which we found out had been cooked by the landlady. Attentive, friendly and efficient service and the landlord even took the time out to chat to us at length after we finished eating. The Bull and Dragon is a lovely country pub, well furnished and with a great and relaxing atmosphere and we shall certainly be returning even though it's 50 miles away and we thoroughly recommend it especially as they cater for gluten free.

This was a great find. A comfortable and picturesque pub. A welcoming and friendly landlord. Geneously proportioned, well cooked and reasonably priced food. Attentive staff and good beer. We shall visit again.

We stopped here on a day trip passing by and cannot recommend it high enough. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced and the ambiance and location is sensational. Mike the landlord made us really welcome. What a lovely place.

Old fashioned and genuine welcome from the landlord, a cosy, charming country pub with excellent local ales and well priced menu. Well sourced, thoughtful wine list. A great place to visit and of course roaring log fire and low beams, flagstone floors. Brilliant.

Having recently moved to Devon we had driven past the Bull & Dragon on a number of occasions so we decided to book a table and we weren’t disappointed. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and the ambience is most welcoming. We have already made further bookings! Highly recommend.

I cycled 30 miles up the Tarka trail and got a puncture a mile from Meeth (no repair kit etc!) Pushed my bike to the pub and couldn't believe my luck when Mike the owner who is a keen cyclist and a thoroughly nice man offered to mend my puncture. He did so while I had a very pleasant drink in the sun. This is a great example of a proper friendly village pub.

Stopped here whilst out for a drive. So glad we did. Mike is the ultimate host. Good recommendations on beer and food. Highly recommended. We will return. Possibly tomorrow!

Having walked part of the Tarka Trail nearby this was a welcome stop. Mike and Becky are new owners and have worked hard during tough times. The food was wonderful. Plenty of choice on the menu. Reasonably priced. We look forward to visiting again.

Cycled here from Weare Giffard on Tarka Trail for lunch. New owners made us very welcome. Lovely atmosphere and fabulous pies for lunch. We will be back when we are down here on holiday again!!

New landlord was friendly. Staff were following covid safety with masks when serving. The chef was very accommodating to special dietary needs. Portion size was very generous and a good price. Highly recommend the pies and pub. Best wishes to new landlords for long successful future in the pub:)

Great food, good menu and a considerate friendly staff made our pub lunch one to remember. Also close by is meeth quarry nature reserve a wild and beautiful place full of well signed walks with abundant wild life. To get there from the pub turn right for a few hundred yards and then right into the Tarka Trail and quarry car park. Continue through the car park along the narrow road to meeth quarry car park. A walk through the woods alongside the quarry followed by lunch at the Bull and Dragon makes a perfect combination..into the

We searched online for a halfway point to meet up with family whilst on holiday and found this little gem.Excellent service with friendly staff and locals. I loved the decor and the board games kept our children entertained.Great food and drinks, good portions too. Only downside is it’s not our local! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Brilliant pub. We were in the area and needed an evening meal so googled dog friendly pubs near me. This one came to the top of the list. We called and they said they could fit us in.Everyone in the pub was so welcoming and was happy to great our dog and brought a bowl of water for him. All the locals were friendly and inclusive - great to see. The staff were open about taking food orders so that the kitchen wasn’t overloaded and we were shown to our table when the food was ready to serve.We both had pies and they were fab! The only pub I know that bakes the pie in the oven with a proper top sealed onto it - none of this soup in a bowl and throwing an air filled puff pastry lid on top here!Pudding menu looked scrummy but we were too full to try any.Ales were great and no-alcohol bottled flavoured ciders available.

I chose this pub as a convenient place for a family reunion lunch, and what a find. Nothing was too much trouble, and the home cooked food was delicious. The steak I had was the best ever! We shall certainly return.

Stopped here on a Saturday evening on the way home from a day on the beach and in spite of it being very busy were able to accommodate us with only a short wait to order food. With an excellent choice of ales and extensive wine list this was not a chore! We all ordered off the specials board and were all very pleased with our choices. Will definitely visit again.

Popped in yesterday after cycling the Tarka Trail to Meeth. When we arrived we had to wait half an hour for the evening food service (starts at 6pm) but we happily had a pint and a snack before we ordered.
