Everything we ordered was spot on. Salmon asparagus quiche was seriously good. The yoghurt blueberry flapjack was easily the best flapjack I've ever had. Salads were really tasty with fresh ingredients. Apple and cider chutney with the porkpie was equally amazing. Staff were really helpful too. Thanks Black's for making me a glutton.

We were staying in Chagford and this deli was on our doorstep. It is simply fantastic. Opens early with a few seats outside for a morning coffee and pastry. The deli has amazing freshly made meats, pies, quiches and salads. We had freshly made baguettes made each day for our picnics and they were simply delicious and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and you can see why the place is so popular. Would definitely recommend. They also offer homemade freezer foods for those holidaying in the area.

Wonderful quiches and flans just like last year. I was only in Chagford 3 days this time, but two of them I got something delicious here to take out on my walk for a picnic. Also great selection of salads and meals/soups to take away for heating up later. I hope I'll be back again some day.

We bought the most amazing quiche Lorraine yesterday It was quite definitely the best I had ever tasted Plus the baguettes tiffin etc etc for our packed lunch were so so good Wished we lived nearer …. But a definite visit when I’m Chagford Excellent Deli Thank you

Popped in for one thing, came away with more, all equally amazing (quiche, tiffin, flapjack). The only sad thing is we didn’t find Blacks until the last day of holiday.

Bought lunch here three out of our four days in Chagford. The salads are as the board outside boasts - scrumptious - and the cakes delicious.

The most delicious Tarte au Citron and Quiches. Would of loved a variety of coffee choices.

Lovely choice of take away items and you can also pick up a coffee all the food looks excellent and great value

Closed after 2pm otherwise would give higher rating. Opening times on the gift voucher would be helpful.

I would travel miles to shop here, need I say more

Black's is part of the beautiful fabric of this beautiful village. Charming emporium of edible delights, constantly being freshly made. I always have a Black's baguette for my moorland walk, and their quiches and pies are to die for, as are their salads. Charming, industrious staff. Perfect.

I'm amazed at this place every time I go here. The food is fantastic and the staff very friendly.

Made my Friday lunch a little bit special. Simple tuna and cucumber in a still warm brown baguette. Not something easy to get perfect in my experience, but this was. As was the service, smiley and clearly hard working, a pleasure to be served by. I could of expanded my waistline by a few inches but I’m going to save that for my next visit. Thank you.

We bought a number of items here but its their delicious olive oil that I remember most. Its lovely as a dipping oil with balsamic with some good bread.

I am a Chagford-phile. Who wouldn't be? Heaven on earth. Even so... Black's is by any standard wonderful. I have visited for so many years and have always had a Black's baguette for lunch on the moor during my walk. I have also always take home one of their lovely pies. Today I had some delicious flavours...celery and cashew nuts for lunch and a marvellous apricot and almond tart for my pudding back home in Bournemouth. The food is so fresh and high quality. Very charming owners too. Please stay open for another 5 years minimum so I can keep visiting.

Popped in for some home picnic ingredients and left with THE most delicious pork pie and wee quiches. Pastry to die for on the pork pie. Yumm!!! Could have indulged in so much more from the tempting array of meats, cheeses, breads, sweet treats and so much more. And great, friendly service.

An edible treasure trove of goodness and delights. Many things you never knew you just had to have in you larder! You can put on weight from the marvelous aromas.

Great variety of food here. The mince pies at Christmas are just amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the village. Just delicious.

Delightful small deli, where you can stock up for your holiday cottage, or take away from the small but excellent selection of fresh salads, quiches - the best I’ve tasted in years, crisp fine pastry and superbly balanced filling - and other sweet and savoury offerings. You could create a splendid picnic for walking on Dartmoor, or help yourself to coffee or tea and perch on a roadside chair with a filled baguette or brownie. Enjoy!

Cracking place, you can get all sorts of items here, pies, pickles, pasties, pate, pasta, pizza's. A whole load of all sorts. It's a must visit. Sit outside and watch the world drift by with a coffee and a panini of your choice or tea and cake. One of Chagfords little gems

Love this place! The homemade food available is stunning, from the quiches to the pies, if ever you're nearby, pop in and grab something! You will not be disappointed .

If you want to see a deli that has something for everyone then you have to visit Blacks. The staff are really great at pointing things out to try and the presentation of my purchases were top notch.

Lovely deli with pies, quiches, teas, honey, and loads of delights. I bought steak and ale pie and tarte citron ( needed a bit more pzazz & lemon) all very good. Devon Flower honey turned out to be delicious. They also do hot soup or coffee to take away

We were visiting Chagford this week, and were looking for a light lunch. My husband saw Blacks and went in to see what was on offer. There were very inviting aromas and a welcoming and friendly lady (Catherine I see her name is) at the counter. She explained that we could have anything from the deli counter warmed up and there were four bar stools at a counter at the front windows to sit on. This suited us very well and we chose the traditional steak pies and a side salad. There was coffee to help yourself to from a machine for £1.50 a mug. This was very nice coffee. The small salad selection was very interesting, and I chose the potato salad which had bacon in it and was very creamy and a lovely one which included celery and pistachio nuts. It was very pleasant sitting there and we could not fault the food which was really tasty, or the friendly atmosphere of Blacks .Afterwards we bought three slices of special millionaire's shortbread to take home with us. These we enjoyed very much. All in all, a very pleasant lunch and we will definitely visit again next time we are in Chagford.

Delicious soups, meats, breads and salads - our favourite place for lunch when we visit Chagford. The owner and staff always have a welcoming smile!

We were shopping for a fresh coffee to take out, plus foods for our picnic dinner back at our accommodation. We got wonderful fresh ham, salads, cheeses and pate but shopped elsewhere in the village for yummy wholesome bread and freshly pulled coffee (Blacks Deli serves filter coffee on a warmer which might be ok. Their breads were very limited. ) Selection of fresh olives wasn't great but OK. The little shop was brimming over with packaged deli items. I'd go back. Everything was delicious.

I bought a smoked turkey and salad baguette. I had thought it would be a mix of interesting leaves, possibly some cucumber and so on. I was disappointed when eating to discover with the slice of turkey only a little iceburg lettuce and rather soggy slices of tomatoes. That was it. The margarine or butter spread (not sure), did not taste very nice. It was a shame as I was looking forward to a deli standard baguette (with a better quality and selection of salad). The staff seemed friendly. The salads and pasties in the deli counter area looked good. But I did not try these.

Lovely little deli in Chagford. Arrived by motorcycle and enjoyed coffee and a sausage roll outside.

Had a quick trip to chagford after arriving the day before to our cottage in a near by farm. My mum had previously visited blacks on her many trips to the area so my other half and I thought we would pop in.

We stopped here before going onto our rental cottage and picked up the ingredients for a lovely evening meal. Very good homemade quiches and salads. And great cakes!

Stopped in for a light meal to bring back to our hotel. Wow, what a selection. The mini quiches were delicious! We also tried lemon tart and a fruity cake...incredible. The staff was delightful and helpful.

Called to purchase picnic food. There was a very good choice of items for sale including a wide range of quiches. Eventually chose the caramelised onion quiche which was an excellent choice

Great range of salads, hot foods, cheap coffee and shelves and shelves of good local and gluten free etc goods. worh a visit. Better for taking way food though a few tables available for eating in. Nice staff.

High quality food shop, with good fresh products, locally made pies and tarts are particularly appetising.

We were staying close by and spent some time walking through Chagford. We decided we only fancied a light supper and would pick up a few things from the deli.

We visited three times while we stayed in North Bovey and this place was just perfect for all our needs - lunches and suppers. We even took fresh supplies for our picnic in Bath!

Apart from a broad selection of groceries you may also ab able to buy pre cooked and frozen meals which for the traveller is a great help.

My wife and I were passing by and just stumbled upon Blacks Delicatessen in Chagford. We were impressed with the varied and attractive foods available there. We had a delicious quiche and a generous slice of wonderfully tasty citron pie -- and were tempted by much else.

What a lovely deli. Been here twice. The first time we needed some tonic water. My wife went in and asked for the tonic water. The lady serving said she had just got. Some in that morning. My wife bought it all. We went back the next day and got cheeses and quiche. All were lovely. The lady serving, I assume the owner, was really friendly and lovely. A wonderful find

A super-friendly, attractive, well-stocked deli, with the bonus of filter coffee and tasty accompaniments. We stopped to look at some of the splendid quiches, cakes and mini quiches we have enjoyed many times in the past and opted to stay for a coffee and a cake and a chat with our very charming server, and got change back from a fiver!Excellent establishment - well worth a visit.

We popped in to get some provisions and thought it was very nice . They had lovely homemade provisions and a good selection of other deli food stuffs .

Visited Blacks while in a trip with my friend and our dogs. Man behind the counter didn't even help my disabled friend on crutches with coffee to the table - it's over there help yourself! When she asked again told its over there!! I was going to buy some meat and cheese but with that attitude - forget it and never again!!! Couldn't leave no star but that's what it should be!

Lovely Delicatessen fabulous home made food , chocolate Brownies to die for. Hot chocolate was a welcome drink on a cold day. Very friendly staff . Lots of goodie to buy even hot soup .

This is a great shop full of interesting local produce and it even sells takeaway soups etc. Seats outside to eat their produce in the summer and very popular with locals

its a nice little shop, but a little pricey and the baguette I had was quite hard, it cut the top of my mouth! not a great choice if you are vegetarian for fillings.

Popped in for a quick bite and ended up getting a small quiche and a couple of mini pasties. All of which were exceptional. A very good choice of different flavoured quiches and the oasties were great. A really nice feel within the shop, great service and good food.

Great Deli - if you are about to embark on a walk on the moors get your picnic here. Freshly prepared goodies for all tastes. If you have rented a holiday cottage you must treat yourself to delicious charcuterie, cheeses, breads & lots more.

Having previously sampled a ready meal from Blacks back in the summer we decided to pre-order several ready meals for our Autumn holiday at a Bovey Castle lodge. We had Beef Bourguignon, Chicken and Choritzo casserole, a Greek Pork Stew and Beef Chilli. Not only were these meals delicious containing quality meat, they were delivered with a smile to our Lodge by Chris, one of the owners. Thank you for a great service Chris. We will see you next year. Can also recommend their shortbread with chocolate chips!

This great little delicatessen in the town square has anything you could possibly want from such a shop. It far exceeds the quality and range you get in similar shops in far larger towns and cities. Their range of pies, cakes and sandwiches is superb and they have so much more to offer.

Following on from a recommendation in our visitors' book, we took home a couple of pre-prepared frozen meals to enjoy back at the holiday cottage. And what a good idea that was too: we enjoyed restaurant-quality food without having to go back out again in the car for a couple of evenings during our stay. The lady who served me was lovely and the whole delicatessen was a foodie's heaven. You could also have something to eat and drink there. Everyone needs to include Blacks Deli as part of their holiday itinerary. And to be lucky enough to live nearby and go every week surely must be a very good reason for moving to Devon!

Tourtes à la viande ou au légumes, scones, confitures, shortbread. Le tout excellent et servi avec soin et gentillesse. A ne pas manquer.

Blacks has a couple of tables, but what we used it for was to take home some food to our B&B. We took the steak pasty (twice), quiche, chicken and bacon pie, and some salads. All were very tasty.

Went in to buy local cheeses , they had a few but not a great range, place was busy which is always a good sign. Lots of different condiments, olives, oils vinegars etc. the Devon blue we had that night for tea was very nice .

When I went to Blacks to buy a quiche, the shop assistant simply picked one up from a display on the top of the counter with her bare hands. I was rather dismayed! I know most people wouldn't care and that I am fussy about hygiene around food but I didn't want the quiche she had touched knowing that she was also handling money. I explained this and she agreed with me and told me she had tongs under the counter! Later in the week, after seeing a programme on television about food in the High Street, I checked the Food Standards Agency online to find that Blacks had achieved a hygiene rating of 2 out of 5 which states 'improvement necessary'.

Bought the quiches and yes they were amazing , my daughter loved the tiffen cake , glad we stopped by , i am sure we will visit again. Very friendly staff too

My wife had one of their mini quiches with a salad, I had a slice of quiche with 2 salads, we sat outside in the delightful graveyard and all that for £8.62! Fantastic value. They weigh the quiche and weigh the salads. My wife is a committed carnivore and I have never seen her tempted by a quiche in the 20 years of our marriage. The bacon quiche slice i had was without doubt the best I have ever had. Loads of bacon, enough kick off the mustard, just brilliant. Likewise there was enough mint in my salad, i mean just excellent. And for that price? I've paid five times that much for a worse plate of food. Well done

Had a delicious tart and a panini and sat outside in the churchyard. Lovely. A perfect place to spend an hour or so. Friendly and helpful service too.

Bought two quiches to take away for our lunch. About 8 different kinds to choose from. Around £3.25 each. Very friendly staff.

Great place to buy some quality lunchtime food to eat in or takeaway. Also plenty of choice for a picnic. Also great choice of spices and specialist foods for the home cook.Only negative is that the cakes are generally too sweet. Exception being the excellent pumpkin seed flapjacks

Blacks is a local legend - fabulous for lunch and the best quiche we have ever tasted. Welcoming to children and always happy to give you a sample. Knowledgable and friendly staff. Also do great frozen meals - restaurant quality - saves cooking! Can't recommend Blacks highly enough.

Love the home baked ham and great selection of salads. Delicious breads. We come back on every visit to Chagford. Very central.

Bought some excellent sarnies to take walking with us on the moor. Can recommend the roast beef and also the ham. A definite must if you are based in Chagford and planning a days walking on the moors.

Located on the edge or Dartmoor, Blacks is a fabulous Delicatessen. The variety of good health shelf food is only Rivalled by there world class Quiches. Excellent service with a smile and a Coffee pot that's always full.Enjoy!

Working on site in Chagford we soon discovered 'blacks'. Packed lunches soon became a thing of the past and we became daily customer.With their excellent range of quality products from homemade quiche to toasted panini s we where made very welcome by 'Mr and Mrs quiche'! 10/10!
