We had coffee (only filter available) and delicious cheese scones, then returned for lunch. Owner Alison was incredibly accommodating in dealing with a special diet. There are gluten free cheese scones and she made a special gravy for one at lunch time. The meal was cooked to order and very good. The range of home made cakes looked delicious too. It attracts an eclectic clientele from foodies like me, to passing tourists, builders for the quality breakfasts and perhaps most importantly local people who enjoy freshly prepared, locally sourced home cooking.

I’m currently staying a few days in Devon. I was checking out Okehampton town centre, discovered The Victorian Pantry by the Museum of Dartmoor Life and decided to pop in to get some food. It’s a lovely and quaint place (in the sweetest way possible!) and the owner was very warm and friendly. The food was great quality and value. I got myself an extra slice of coffee and walnut cake for the evening at my hotel, because it was really tasty! A really nice experience on my travels. 😊

Wonderful little discovery on the edge of town. The cobblestone pathway was so quaint and old fashioned, it perfectly suits the inside of the little tea room, which contains an eclectic range of teapots. The good weather meant that the seats outside were all taken, but the staff were so kind and moved us outside once a table was free. My mother had the boiled egg tea and I had the Afternoon tea which were both delicious! The range of cakes was hard to chose from as they all looked wonderful as well. Will definitely come back here one day.

We had lunch here on a Thursday, whilst visiting the town, as we are touring the area. So pleased we found this little treasure. Lovely friendly staff, and two very lovely elderly gentleman that eat there three days a week, coming in by bus especially! My partner had a full English all day breakfast, and I had toast topped with mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese melted over the top, all ingredients very locally grown, and so tasty. The elderly gents had a roast it looked and smelled just like home cooked. It was clean plates all round. I was talked into a pudding, ( it didn’t take much) of rhubarb pie and cream, omg, it was delicious. We had hoped too call in on the Saturday ( yesterday) but ended up going in a different direction. Hopefully we will be returning this way soon, and we will have the roast!

I wanted to meet a friend who lives in Okehampton, I asked her to recommend somewhere to get a good cup of tea...(and maybe scones, jam & cream to go with it!) Well she couldn't have chosen better, the tea was lovely, aided by the soft water I'm told and plenty for the 3 of us to have as much as we could drink. The scones were delicious-we are scone connoisseurs so know what we're talking about. Plenty of yummy strawberry jam too. The owner looked after us very well. The prices were very good too I was pleasantly surprised at how little this cost for so much. If you are in Okehampton, look to the right of Wetherspoons and go through the gates towards the museum where you will find the Victorian pantry on your right. You won't be disappointed.

When we walked into this cozy, bright, little jewel of a restaurant, I immediately felt comfortable and in a special place. It was decorated beautifully with lovely floral tablecloths, wall hangings, floral china, and vintage items all around. Allison, the manager and cook/baker, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. We had creamed tea and homemade cakes. They were delicious. The menu was varied and full of "try me, try me" items, and we found the prices reasonable. Unfortunately, it was only a day trip to Okehampton so we weren't able to return. However, when we visit England next September THE VICTORIAN PANTRY will be on our "go back to" list.

I thought the Victorian Pantry is a lovely looking old place and very friendly staff. However I felt slightly let down by the food as the scone was more cakey and the ploughmans lacking in amount (2 bits of bread, some cheese, 1 pickled onion and a little bit of salad for £6). Unfortunately it wouldn't make me return.

This little place is tucked into the side of the Museum of Dartmoor Life courtyard, and at first I thought it was an exhibit! But no-- it's a lovely, tiny little restaurant that serves expertly homemade food in a genuinely homey atmosphere. During a brief stay in Okehampton I ate here three times--a fabulous omelette, a fabulous piece of grilled salmon with vegetables and leaves for dinner, and afternoon tea with a luscious cream filled meringue. This is a small tea room with traditional decor and a nice menu. We ordered a cream to share (my wife ordered an extra pot of tea). For a bit under £6.-- you get two nice-sized scones (one Cornish and one Devon style), generous portions of clotted cream and jam, a pot of tea, and a slice of Victorian sponge cake. This really puts London cream teas with their skimpy portions, hockey-puck tough scones, and weak tea to shame. The scones were very nice and the sponge was delicious. I would like to try their full English breakfast. This is a very unpretentious little place with friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. If I lived in the area, I would be here often.

Read the reviews and you realise why some give lower stars. You are not entering a large chain, you are not entering a posh coffee bar; you are going into a small museum building cafe used all the time by locals where they know everyone but will always make room for visitors when they can. The entire place is a throwback in time. Expect nothing modern. You'll get proper homemade, reasonably priced good made with local ingredients and specials.Breakfasts are fab, the big full English has local produce and a chunky slice of local toast to match, a lot of tea or a filter coffee for £6.25. This will be why it fills up!In between serving they cook lunches, cakes etc. It is essentially a farmhouse kitchen in the museum buildings with twenty seats. You want a proper bit of Devon? This is where to go.

Went for lunch today during Burger and Pie Week. We had a venison burger and a turkey burger, both were delicious. Great service from the young bartender. We heard her telling other guests she was only 16 but she was so confident and welcoming, even gave us a little taste of the cider before we ordered. Only room for improvement is that it was a little chilly, maybe light that lovely fire on a grey October day.
